She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 19
Qiao Gaogao smiled modestly, then led the team to the nearest specialty store. After clearing out the zombies inside, she found a number of drones and quickly deployed them to scout the situation within the agricultural market.
When the footage came back, everyone frowned. The scenes transmitted were excessively gruesome zombies crowded together in a bustling mass, severed limbs scattered everywhere, and dark red bloodstains staining the surroundings. Some zombies had even begun turning on each other, their tearing and swallowing movements so nauseating that everyone’s faces turned slightly pale.
“This…” Even Qi Miao was left speechless. Watching the footage, she felt her stomach churn, as if she might vomit up everything she had eaten that morning.
Qiao Gaogao, however, seemed to handle it better than the others. She carefully observed the zombies cannibalizing each other, trying to discern why they were devouring their own kind.
Suddenly, one of the zombies, which had been feasting with its head lowered, abruptly looked up. Half of its face was missing, and its grotesque visage appeared clearly on the screen. It bared a crimson maw, its gaze fixed intently on the drone. Ignoring the half-eaten corpse beneath it, the zombie leaped using whatever it could to try and seize the drone.
Qiao Gaogao swiftly maneuvered the drone to evade the zombie’s attack and retreated from the agricultural market.
But as she piloted the drone outward, the zombie pursued relentlessly from below, showing no signs of giving up until it caught its target.
Compared to the other zombies, this one was remarkably agile. Narrowing her eyes, Qiao Gaogao recalled the zombie that had blocked their path earlier. She instructed the others to prepare, intending to lure this zombie out.
Recognizing her expression, Qi Miao immediately understood what Qiao Gaogao had in mind and grew excited, hoping that this zombie’s brain might contain a crystal, which would allow Qiao Gaogao’s abilities to advance further.
Fortunately, although other zombies had noticed the drone’s movement, they only followed for a short distance before giving up. Only this particular zombie persisted doggedly. Qiao Gaogao guided the drone to lead it into an area they had previously cleared, then landed the drone on an outdoor air conditioning unit.
Taking a sniper rifle from one of her teammates, Qiao Gaogao set it up and aimed in the zombie’s direction. The zombie was still attempting to jump and climb to capture the drone.
This behavior confirmed Qiao Gaogao’s suspicion: this zombie did not possess the same level of intelligence as the one that had blocked their path earlier.
Even so, it was not without alertness. One moment it was fixated on seizing the drone, but the instant Qiao Gaogao aimed the rifle at it, the zombie instinctively began scanning its surroundings.
Squinting, Qiao Gaogao pulled the trigger decisively!
The bullet shot out at incredible speed, but the distant zombie sensed the impending danger and swiftly dodged the attack. It quickly located Qiao Gaogao and her team’s hiding spot, let out a roar, and charged toward them!
Qiao Gaogao had brought along her martial arts school seniors, all of whom reacted with exceptional speed. Many aimed and fired at the zombie, while Qiao Gaogao used her abilities to block the zombie’s path as much as possible, confining its movements to a small area.
“Roar!”
The zombie roared hoarsely, its sharp fangs gleaming with a chilling light under the direct sunlight. Having evaded vital areas, it allowed bullets to strike its body as it clenched its fist and punched a large dent directly into the iron wall forged by Qiao Gaogao.
Punch after punch, the zombie quickly broke free from Qiao Gaogao’s encirclement. Yet, seeing this, Qiao Gaogao grew exceptionally excited. After instructing Qi Miao and the others, she leaped out the window herself and confronted the zombie.
“Roar!”
The zombie bellowed, baring its teeth as it charged toward Qiao Gaogao. Its bluish-black face drew closer to her, and as it loomed larger, she could even see drool dripping from its mouth, mixed with blood and yellowish-white pus, utterly disgusting.
Qiao Gaogao was so repulsed she couldn’t bear to look, once again marveling inwardly at her senior’s beauty, which was as different from these zombies as heaven and earth.
Following her instincts, Qiao Gaogao allowed her weapon to transform in countless ways. She could clearly sense that this zombie was far more formidable than the others; its skin was even tougher than the one that had blocked their path. At times, her attacks only left small gashes on the zombie, from which thick, black blood oozed.
“Roar!”
The zombie clearly went berserk, its sharp claws lunging straight for Qiao Gaogao’s chest, as if intent on killing her with a single strike.
Narrowing her eyes, Qiao Gaogao sidestepped to evade the zombie’s attack. Simultaneously, her hand transformed into a metallic form, clamping down hard on the zombie’s wrist. At that moment, a high-speed bullet instantly pierced through its cheek!
The force of the impact sent the zombie’s head tilting to one side. Seizing the opportunity, Qiao Gaogao plunged a sharp dagger directly into its brain!
“Roar!”
The zombie roared furiously, but it was futile. In the end, it could only glare at Qiao Gaogao with resentment and rage, its eyes gradually losing all light.
Confirming the zombie’s death, Qiao Gaogao made a hand signal, then swiftly and decisively dug into its brain. Soon, she extracted a gray crystal.
Looking at the crystal, Qiao Gaogao couldn’t help but smile, tucking it into her pocket with the intention of bringing it back for her senior to try.
“Gaogao!” Qi Miao and the others approached, glancing down at the thoroughly dead zombie, their faces all showing expressions of disgust.
“Can’t these zombies learn from Xiao Yin?” Qi Miao complained disdainfully.
Yin Xi was so clean and lovely! Even after turning into a zombie, she remained a pleasure to behold.
“Exactly! They can’t even learn properly! So stupid!” Qiao Gaogao chimed in cheerfully.
Her enthusiastic agreement drew complex looks from the others, with one even sighing.
Who falls in love and ends up becoming their partner’s brain?
But Qiao Gaogao paid no mind to their gazes. She controlled the drone to fly back into the farmers’ market, playing the song “Mouse Loves Rice.”” Initially, she had considered broadcasting the Ninth Set of Radio Calisthenics, but then she thought better of it, imagining how others would perceive her if she did.
As the lyrics “I love you, love you, just like a mouse loves rice” echoed repeatedly, Qiao Gaogao lured most of the zombies out of the farmers’ market and led them to another street.
Faced with such behavior from Qiao Gaogao, her teammates were beginning to grow numb.
What kind of music does this person listen to behind the scenes?!
After luring most of the zombies out of the market, Qiao Gaogao had the others clear out the remaining ones while she stayed back to cover them.
Those who followed Qiao Gaogao out were no cowards. They practically treated the zombies as their whetstones, almost wishing the zombies would flee at the sight of them.
But the unexpected happened at that moment. An agile zombie leaped down from a building, swiftly charging toward one of the team members. With its hands poised for an attack and the downward momentum, anyone hit would undoubtedly be torn in half!
“Watch out!” Qiao Gaogao was the first to notice the danger, but the person was too far from her, and the zombie was too fast. In the end, she was a step too late, forced to watch helplessly as the distance between them closed.
“Roar!”
The expected scream never came. Instead, the zombie let out an angry roar. An ice wall materialized out of thin air between the zombie and the human. Though the ice wall shattered quickly under the zombie’s impact, those two seconds bought Qiao Gaogao enough time!
A giant metal hand grabbed the stunned person and swiftly pulled them out of the zombie’s attack range. Qiao Gaogao quickly stepped forward to draw the zombie’s attention.
Her expression was tense.
This zombie was far more formidable than any they had encountered before.
