They worked swiftly, having developed a certain tacit understanding during their journey together. After everyone had settled in, they shared a hearty dinner. Qiao Muyi instructed them to get a good rest, as they would begin working on the resort’s construction starting the next day.

The original manager of the resort, familiar with all its operations, was appointed as the supervisor to lead everyone in building the ultimate apocalyptic fortress.

Qiao Gaogao didn’t know how many supernatural ability users like herself existed in this apocalyptic world. To be safe, she decided to use her abilities to heighten and reinforce the walls in the future. Even if they couldn’t stop other ability users, they could at least hold off ordinary people.

Before bed, Qiao Gaogao checked Yinxi’s phone again but still saw no reply from Yinxi’s parents. She tried calling, but the line prompted that it was powered off.

Qiao Gaogao thought for a moment, then excitedly pulled Yinxi over and said, “Senior, the call just now prompted that it was powered off, not unanswered!””

If it could be powered off, did that mean someone was still in control of the phone?

Qi Miao pouted, picked up the sweet potato, and slowly began peeling it.

After breakfast, Qiao Gaogao took Yinxi along to survey the terrain. Yinxi could now walk a little, though very slowly, so whenever she didn’t want to be carried, Qiao Gaogao would manipulate metal to create a small cart. Yinxi would stand on it while Qiao Gaogao pulled it along from below.

As for why she didn’t make a wheelchair, Yinxi felt it would make her seem too much like an invalid, so that idea was scrapped.

Qiao Gaogao pulled the cart along the perimeter of the resort. It had to be said, the resort was truly massive. Even as an ability user with significantly enhanced stamina, it still took her two hours to complete the circuit. Along the way, she patched up numerous weak spots, greatly improving the resort’s security.

“It’s so great to have ability users!” Qi Miao exclaimed cheerfully, gliding on the scooter Qiao Gaogao had made for her. If she wanted something, she could just ask an ability user to make it for her!

“It’d be best if you all became ability users soon too,” Qiao Gaogao muttered under her breath. With only her as the sole ability user, a lot of work fell on her shoulders. She felt it was absolutely necessary for someone to share the load!

Yinxi roared twice, convinced that more people would eventually awaken abilities. Otherwise, humanity would truly be at the mercy of the zombies.

Little did she know, her words would prove prophetic. When the three of them returned to the hotel lobby, they found the scene in a state of commotion, with many people looking excited and exhilarated.

“What’s going on?” Qiao Gaogao asked, bewildered.

Before anyone could explain, she spotted the center of the commotion. There stood Ms. Qiao, with green vines twining around her palm, growing and shifting according to her will.

Qiao Gaogao stared in astonishment.

She gazed in disbelief at the vines on Ms. Qiao’s wrist, then felt an overwhelming surge of joy. Just as she was about to rush forward for a closer look, she slammed headfirst into a suddenly appearing earthen wall with a thud.

“Oof!”

Clutching her forehead, tears welling in her eyes, Qiao Gaogao stared blankly at the wall for a moment.

“Roar! Roar!”

Yinxi hurried to her side, concerned, and checked her head. But Qiao Gaogao was too stunned to feel the pain. Pointing at the earthen wall, she was speechless with shock.

Qi Miao, who had entered with them, was equally stunned. She watched as the earthen wall vanished before their eyes, revealing the towering figure of Mr. Qiao, his face alight with irrepressible excitement.

The scene grew even more chaotic. Having witnessed the power of ability users, everyone understood the immense benefits of having more of them in their group.

“Hiss!”

Mr. Qiao raised his hand, and another earthen wall materialized out of thin air. With a wave, it disappeared again.

“Honey, I’m amazing!” Mr. Qiao exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement.

Ms. Qiao raised a hand, and a vine whipped across to cover his mouth, muffling his embarrassing outburst. Only then did she glance over at Qiao Gaogao and the others.

Qiao Gaogao rushed forward excitedly, gently touching the vines, her eyes sparkling. “Mom, is that a wood-type ability?”

Ms. Qiao nodded, a pleased but composed expression on her face, unlike Mr. Qiao’s unrestrained excitement.

“Roar?” Yinxi tilted her head, curiously observing the family.

Did they have some special constitution? Why was it that their family was the first to awaken abilities? And their abilities were quite intriguing too.

Earth begets metal, metal overcomes wood, wood overcomes earth, it seems to mirror the pattern of their family.
