She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 16
Yinxi still felt somewhat gloomy. In her view, she truly felt she was holding Guoguo back too much.
Seeing that Yinxi remained unhappy, Qiao Guoguo thought for a moment and ran off to find Qi Ji. He was currently preparing dinner with his team and immediately understood why Guoguo had come. Without needing further explanation, he began preparing a meal specifically for Yinxi.
Watching Guoguo suddenly run off, Yinxi’s heart skipped a beat. She secretly lifted her gaze to follow Guoguo’s figure, then rubbed her face in frustration.
Not only was she a burden, but now Guoguo even had to comfort her.
Lowering her head, Yinxi stared at her own unnaturally grayish skin, wrinkled her face in distaste, and turned her eyes away.
All that skincare and sun protection she had done before turning into a zombie completely wasted!
Yinxi’s dinner was quickly prepared. Guoguo carried the plate over to her, waving it in front of her with a cheerful smile. “Senior, doesn’t it smell delicious?”
Yinxi looked at Guoguo’s radiant smile, then glanced at the perfectly seared steak visually appealing and aromatic and obediently nodded.
Qi Ji’s cooking skills were truly exceptional. Even in the wilderness, he managed to create such an appetizing dinner.
Seeing Yinxi nod, Guoguo immediately broke into a wide grin. She cut the steak into bite-sized pieces and fed them to Yinxi, her voice sweet and soft, carrying an indescribable tenderness.
“Senior~ We never had this much time together before.”
In the past, either she or Guoguo had classes. On the rare occasions when they had breaks and could arrange to hang out, unexpected situations would often cut their time short. They had never spent entire days and nights together like this before.
As Yinxi ate the steak Guoguo fed her and watched her joyful expression, she couldn’t help but swing her legs slightly, feeling a bit happier herself.
–
The night passed quickly without any incidents. When the group got back on the highway, they couldn’t help but feel grateful that the zombie outbreak hadn’t occurred during a holiday. Otherwise, the highway would have been too congested to drive through.
During their time on the road, Guoguo’s control over her abilities grew increasingly proficient. However, she also felt a sense of confusion. Lifting her hand, she examined it carefully. “Does physical strength improve before awakening special abilities?”
After all, it wasn’t exactly normal. No matter how capable she had been before, she could never have crushed someone’s skull barehanded. Yet, since yesterday, her physical strength had increased dramatically. She even felt she could easily snap someone’s neck.
Hearing her words, Yinxi recalled how ferocious Guoguo had looked while killing zombies. She instinctively touched her own still-intact head, then leaned against Guoguo and began to space out.
Being a zombie was so boring, she couldn’t even use her phone.
“Growl, growl!”
Guoguo tilted her head, took out her phone, and placed it in front of Yinxi, starting to play a movie for her.
She also made up her mind: the next time they went out to scavenge for supplies, she would visit a library and bring back more books to enrich their spiritual world.
After all, it was highly likely that electricity and the internet would be cut off in the future. Without books and other materials to fulfill their mental needs, people would easily become numb and desensitized.
Yinxi leaned against Qiao Gaogao, engrossed in the movie, her slightly cloudy eyes gleaming brightly. Anyone who had known Yinxi before would never have connected the person she was now with her former self.
Even Qiao Gaogao herself felt that the current Yinxi was vastly different from before. Had she been hiding her true nature all along, only to reveal it now?
Who would have thought that a zombie outbreak would cause both of them to expose their hidden sides.
They continued their journey, choosing routes through sparsely populated areas whenever possible. By the evening of the next day, the group finally arrived in H City and headed straight for their cousin’s resort.
Although the resort’s business had been struggling, it still had staff managing it. Moreover, some people in the surrounding area knew about the resort’s existence, and those with quick wits had long regarded it as an ideal sanctuary. As a result, when Qiao Gaogao and the others arrived, they were met with tightly closed gates.
This time, Qiao’s parents stepped forward to negotiate. They immediately stated their identity and purpose. Their imposing figures alone were intimidating enough, and coupled with their authoritative presence, the people inside the resort grew uneasy. After all, with so many people in Qiao’s group, a direct confrontation would leave them with no chance of winning.
Before setting out, they had contacted their cousin abroad. Qiao Muyi was certain that the people inside the resort had received their cousin’s message. Yet, they hesitated, likely hoping to take advantage of the chaos and claim the place for themselves.
After all, the resort was fully equipped with facilities, a signal tower, and its own power generation system. Properly fortified, it would make an excellent stronghold.
“We managed to travel safely all the way from Z City. You should have some idea of our capabilities,” Qiao Muyi said without further ado. As she placed her hands on her hips, she casually revealed the gun tucked at her waist.
One by one, people stepped out of the vehicles and stood behind Qiao Muyi and the others. The members of the martial arts school, in particular, stood out from ordinary people. Their imposing presence alone made it clear that any one of them could take on three opponents.
Realizing that a direct confrontation would be futile, the people inside the resort finally opened the gates.
The resort was exceptionally scenic, with mountains, lakes, and vast stretches of undeveloped land perfect for growing their own crops in the future.
Once inside, Qi Ji took charge of coordinating with the resort’s manager, while Qiao Gaogao led Yinxi straight to the villa hotel.
When they reached a three-story standalone villa at the foot of the mountain, Qiao Gaogao breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, no one had occupied it. This was the very villa her family had stayed in when they visited the resort during its grand opening.
Qiao Gaogao chose the same room she had stayed in before. Stepping out onto the balcony, she could see the lake outside. The emerald-green water rippled gently in the breeze. Staying in such an environment made it easy for one to find peace.
“What do you think, Senior? The environment here is pretty nice, right?” Qiao Gaogao asked excitedly, feeling a secret joy at having brought Yinxi to a place she had once visited herself.
“Grrr…”
Yinxi stood on the balcony, leaning against the railing, quietly enjoying the sensation of the wind brushing against her. The air even smelled fresher here. Compared to the outside world, this place felt like a paradise.
Qiao Gaogao leaned on the railing alongside Yinxi, her almond-shaped eyes curved into a smile as she said cheerfully, “Senior, we might be staying here for quite a while.”
Once things settled down a bit, she planned to take her senior to find her parents. After that, they would most likely return here anyway.
“Ho ho!”
Yinxi didn’t mind where they were, as long as she could stay with Qiao Gaogao.
