She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 15
In the end, Qi Miao quietly went to wash herself clean before hopping into the car with a cheerful grin, acting as if she hadn’t just returned covered in “mud” from her earlier outing.
The group found a standalone villa in the suburbs to rest and regroup. While Qiao’s parents were busy organizing everyone to assess their situation, Qi Miao finally brought out the cleaned object and handed it to Yinxi, excitedly saying, “This is what I dug out of the zombie’s brain! Xiao Yin, how did you know there was something inside its head?”
Yinxi looked at the gray crystal, now spotless after being washed, and let out a proud, soft hum. Of course, she knew the moment that zombie had approached, she had sensed an energy fluctuation in its brain that other zombies didn’t possess, which was why she had asked Qi Miao to dig it out.
She took a tissue, picked up the gray crystal through it, examined it briefly, and then handed it to Qiao Gao Gao.
Qi Miao: “…” Was she worried that she hadn’t cleaned it thoroughly enough?
But she quickly forgot about that thought, staring eagerly at Qiao Gao Gao instead.
Qiao Gao Gao was momentarily stunned by the crystal being handed to her and looked at Yinxi.
“Growl, growl!” Eat it, quick!
Qiao Gao Gao: “…” Eat?
Her almond-shaped eyes widened in disbelief. No matter how tough she was, the thought of consuming something dug out of a zombie’s brain made her stomach churn.
Seeing her hesitate, Yinxi grew anxious and pushed the crystal into her hand.
Qiao Gao Gao stared at the small crystal in her palm, then decided to try connecting with it using her mental energy. Almost immediately, she felt a surge of energy spreading from her palm. Her aching, exhausted mind began to feel soothed, and the fatigue in her body gradually faded away. Her eyes slowly lit up with realization.
Was it her imagination, or had her supernatural ability grown slightly stronger?
“How is it? How is it?” Qi Miao asked urgently, her face full of anticipation. “Tell me, tell me!”
“It really works! I feel so much better now,” Qiao Gao Gao murmured.
“Wow, the world’s really turned into a fantasy novel!” Qi Miao exclaimed excitedly. This kind of world perfectly satisfied her inner chuunibyou.
Hearing her excitement, Qi Ji walked over. After learning the reason, he rolled his eyes at his sister. If the world had truly become a fantasy realm, ordinary people like them without supernatural abilities would likely face even tougher times.
Still, this discovery was good news at least it meant humans and zombies were in a state of mutual restraint. He hurried off to share the news with Qiao Mu Yi and the others.
Once she realized she could absorb energy from the zombie crystal, Qiao Gao Gao turned her thoughtful gaze toward Yinxi.
Her contemplative expression, however, alarmed Qi Miao, who clearly misunderstood. “What are you thinking? She’s your girlfriend! No matter how much you want energy, you can’t turn on your own girlfriend!” she cried out in panic.
Hadn’t she just been head over heels for Yinxi? And she’d even treated Qi Miao harshly because of her!
Yinxi also looked pitiful, as if Qiao Gao Gao might actually strike her down the next second, blowing her head off like she had with the other zombies.
“What nonsense are you spouting!” Qiao Gao Gao snapped, flustered. “How could I ever lay a hand on my senior?”
Hearing her response, Qi Miao let out an “Oh,” and asked, “Then why were you staring at her like that?”
Yinxi also looked at her with wide, expectant eyes.
Feeling flustered, Qiao Gaogao snapped, “I was thinking that since the crystal core is useful to me, maybe it could be useful for Senior too!”
If it worked, she planned to gather more crystal cores for Yinxi to see if it could improve her physical condition.
“Oh.” Qi Miao felt a bit embarrassed, realizing she had misunderstood, and obediently shut her mouth.
Qiao Gaogao turned to Yinxi, worried she might misinterpret her intentions. “Senior, don’t be misled by her, I would never harm you!”
Yinxi blinked, leaned against her, and affectionately nuzzled her head against Qiao Gaogao.
Qiao Gaogao’s heart instantly melted. Overjoyed, she hugged her senior tightly and conjured several Pikachus to dance around them, delighting Yinxi.
Yinxi’s eyes sparkled as she watched the Pikachus, clearly enchanted.
Qi Miao watched the scene with envy, grumbling inwardly, Damn couples, they’re so annoying!
“How’s your recovery?” Qiao Mu Yi approached and, seeing Qiao Gaogao’s radiant expression, already knew the answer but asked out of habit.
“Very good!” Qiao Gaogao made the Pikachus collectively give Qiao Mu Yi a thumbs-up.
Without changing her expression, Qiao Mu Yi said, “Since you’re fine, let’s continue on our way.”
They had initially stopped to rest because they thought Qiao Gaogao was severely exhausted, but now that she was clearly okay, there was no need to delay. It was only a little past 3 p.m., and they could still cover some distance.
Qiao Gaogao’s face immediately fell, but she resignedly nodded.
“Heh heh.” Yinxi reached out and patted her head soothingly.
Qiao Gaogao was instantly cheered up.
As they continued their journey, Qiao Gaogao practiced her control over her abilities, especially when making the Pikachus dance for Yinxi, which also helped refine her precision.
However, since she was the only one who had awakened her abilities, there was no way to gauge how her skills compared to other ability users.
By 7 p.m., they had left Z Province and driven into a village, planning to rest for the night.
Their arrival clearly disturbed the village’s original inhabitants. Many villagers, armed with various farming tools, blocked the entrance, refusing to let them in.
Seeing the crowd blocking the road, it was evident that this remote village, far from densely populated areas, had been less affected by the turmoil. Qiao Gaogao stepped out of the vehicle first, intending to negotiate with them.
But the villagers, dismissing her due to her youth, brandished their hoes and demanded they leave.
“Hello, we’re just passing through and would like to stay for one night. We’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning,” Qiao Gaogao tried to persuade them.
“Go! Leave now! You’re not welcome here!”
Just as Qiao Gaogao was about to say more, Qiao’s father stepped forward. His towering figure made the villagers visibly more cautious, though they remained wary.
“Forget it, we’ll rest outside the village tonight and not go in,” Qiao’s father pulled Qiao Gaogao away. Once they were at a distance, he continued, “Their hostility shows they’re afraid we might bring something like the zombie virus. If they discover Xiao Yin, it could lead to conflict. It’s better for us to find an open space and stay on our own.”
Hearing her father say that, Qiao Gaogao didn’t insist any further. Eventually, they stopped at an empty space near the highway. The area was sparsely populated, so for the time being, they didn’t have to worry about zombie attacks.
“Grrr…”
Yinxi’s mood was a bit down. Perhaps without her, Qiao Gaogao and the others wouldn’t have to worry so much.
“Are you unhappy?” Qiao Gaogao leaned her head closer, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes curved into a smile. “We’ve never had a picnic together before. This is the perfect opportunity.”
“Look up at the sky, the moon is so big tonight.”
