She Comes Into My Dreams Every Night - Chapter 38
Chapter 38: The Spectator Sees More Clearly
The sky was perfectly clear.
Su Huaiwang sat on the side of the living room, propping her chin on her hand, watching the sunlight fall outside the window, illuminating the lush greenery.
The excellent weather seemed to sweep away all the gloom that had lingered before.
Piano music suddenly started, flowing and winding like water in her ears.
The player was clearly a beginner, the scales simple and skipping, mixing with the gently blowing breeze, making the air heavy and sleepy on the afternoon.
Su Huaiwang turned her head and saw Lin Jue playing the piano with lowered eyes.
The girl sat behind the grand piano, her face devoid of expression, her fingers, white as jade, accurately pressing each key.
Everything was beautiful, like a serene painting.
Su Huaiwang’s expression relaxed as she propped her cheek and admired Lin Jue.
She had taught Lin Jue the piano. She had thought that since Lin Jue liked painting, she might also enjoy the piano, but unfortunately, Lin Jue hadn’t shown any particular interest in it.
But playing occasionally was fine; neither of them disliked music.
The doorbell rang, breaking the moment of tenderness.
Su Huaiwang subconsciously looked up, then saw the girl’s knitted brows.
The piano music stopped, and a shadow of gloomy emotion flashed across Lin Jue’s face, perhaps because her performance had been interrupted.
“I’ll get the door,” Su Huaiwang said, standing up.
Lin Jue nodded, but still stood up behind her.
Who could it be at this time?
Grandma Chen was busy taking care of her child at home, and recently, only Lin Jue had visited.
Su Huaiwang wondered.
The doorbell rang twice more impatiently, as if urging her.
Su Huaiwang first peered through the peephole, but no person appeared in the field of view.
Just as she was considering pulling up the surveillance footage, a phone slowly ascended into the peephole’s view.
“Open the door!” two words and one punctuation mark scrolled repeatedly across the phone screen.
Su Huaiwang: …
The door opened, and a bouquet of flowers immediately lunged at her. Lin Jue had to pull her back to prevent her face from plunging into the flowers.
“Surprise!”
A woman’s shout rang out. Even with a curtain of red in front of her, Su Huaiwang knew who was speaking.
Tu Zhizhuo forcefully shoved the bouquet of roses into her arms and stepped into her house as if no one else was there.
“Oh, little beauty, you’re here too. Good afternoon.”
“Good afternoon.” Lin Jue smiled and nodded at her, but her attention remained on the silent Su Huaiwang.
Su Huaiwang’s mouth twitched, and a vein subtly throbbed in her forehead.
In contrast, her tone was surprisingly gentle: “Tu Zhizhuo?”
Tu Zhizhuo got goosebumps. “Ugh, what? Why are you so cutesy!”
Lin Jue looked at Su Huaiwang, then at Tu Zhizhuo, who was rubbing her arms, and consciously took a step back, moving away from the area of conflict.
Su Huaiwang handed the flowers to Lin Jue, her eyes, devoid of a smile, fixed on Tu Zhizhuo.
Tu Zhizhuo’s confidence immediately wilted. “W-what’s wrong? You’re being creepy.”
“You ask what’s wrong?” Su Huaiwang frowned. “Aren’t you supposed to be at work? Why did you suddenly come here?”
“It’s my public holiday. I missed you, so I came to see you.” A vibrant, beautiful face was unnecessarily being used to make exaggerated expressions.
Su Huaiwang silently sighed.
“Whatever,” she said. She couldn’t control this impulsive person anyway.
Having passed Su Huaiwang’s hurdle, Tu Zhizhuo relaxed. She looked behind and saw the beautiful girl with lowered eyes, gazing at the flowers in her arms, wondering what she was thinking.
Tu Zhizhuo immediately jumped over. “Well, little beauty, do you like the flowers I sent?”
With that, she winked her right eye, sending a flirty look.
Lin Jue looked up, glanced at her, then at Su Huaiwang.
Tu Zhizhuo, who was perceptive, immediately exclaimed, “Aww, she doesn’t like them! It’s a waste to send them to her every time! She has no taste for them!”
“Tu Zhizhuo!” Su Huaiwang’s face was slightly red with anger.
Lin Jue didn’t speak, merely placing the flowers casually on the table, and shook her head. “I don’t particularly like them either.”
Tu Zhizhuo wasn’t disappointed and smiled cheekily. “That’s a shame then.”
Lin Jue turned her gaze. “Then I’ll head back now?”
Before Su Huaiwang could speak, Tu Zhizhuo quickly interjected, “Don’t go yet! What were you two doing just now? Can I join you!”
Su Huaiwang stared at Tu Zhizhuo in surprise, feeling that she was overly active today.
A bad feeling rose in her heart.
“I heard you two have been painting together often lately? I can join too! I know a little about painting.”
Tu Zhizhuo patted her chest, completely lacking boundaries.
Amber eyes stared at her for a long time. “Is that so?”
The girl smiled, but the expression in her eyes was unclear. “Don’t you have work?”
“My public holiday lasts for several days. It’d be perfect to spend it with you two.”
Tu Zhizhuo also smiled, but her smile was genuine. She wasn’t like Su Huaiwang, this foolish blockhead, who couldn’t even see such obvious jealousy.
Lin Jue didn’t reply, turning her attention back to Su Huaiwang.
Seeing Lin Jue’s pitiful look after being interrogated by Tu Zhizhuo, Su Huaiwang felt a pang of sympathy and immediately spoke up:
“Enough, stop harassing her.”
Tu Zhizhuo: ?
When did I harass her? You hypocrite, are you playing the ‘forgetting friendship for beauty’ card now?
Lin Jue nodded slightly. “I have something to do at home. I’ll be going now. We can hang out again if there’s time.”
Su Huaiwang quickly said, “I’ll walk you out!”
The two hurried away, leaving Tu Zhizhuo alone, on the verge of tears.
Now she understood. There was no place for her in this play.
Outside the door, Su Huaiwang apologized to Lin Jue. “I’m sorry. She’s always been like that.”
Lin Jue shook her head. “There’s no need to apologize. She’s fine as she is.”
Su Huaiwang was about to say more when a piece of candy was placed in her palm.
She looked down in surprise and saw Lin Jue chuckle. “For you. Don’t let her find out.”
“I made it myself. Help me taste it and see how it is.”
She winked at Su Huaiwang with one eye. It was the same gesture as Tu Zhizhuo’s, yet it was infinitely cuter than Tu Zhizhuo’s.
The softest part of Su Huaiwang’s heart was fiercely struck.
She clenched the candy in her hand, awkwardly averted her gaze, and whispered, “I will.”
…For some reason, she had the strange feeling that the two of them were having a secret rendezvous.
Lin Jue’s expression finally relaxed.
After their tryst—no, after saying goodbye to Lin Jue, Su Huaiwang returned home with a pounding, regretful, and reluctant little heart.
As soon as she opened the door, she heard a magnificent and complex piano melody.
Tu Zhizhuo was sitting at the piano, in the very spot Lin Jue had been, her fingers flying like waves crashing against black and white reefs.
Su Huaiwang walked closer, leaning against a pillar to watch her.
Tu Zhizhuo always played the piano with force, her style magnificent and wild, powerfully attracting the listeners. Even an amateur like Su Huaiwang could hear the musical beauty within.
The piece ended. Tu Zhizhuo’s fingers rested on the last key. She looked up and stared at Su Huaiwang with a look of grievance.
Su Huaiwang looked calm, walking over to a nearby sofa and sitting down.
“You two were playing the piano just now.”
Su Huaiwang didn’t deny it. “I taught her a little, but she doesn’t seem as interested in the piano as she is in painting.”
Tu Zhizhuo got up and scooted next to Su Huaiwang, insisting on sharing the single-seater sofa with her.
“Tell me, tell me, what’s your relationship now? Is she hanging out here every day?”
Su Huaiwang didn’t want to look at her, carefully shifting her position to avoid crushing the candy in her pocket. “The relationship where I have wet dreams about her every day?”
She only dared to speak so freely because Lin Jue wasn’t present.
Tu Zhizhuo clicked her tongue in amazement. “I never would have thought, Su Huaiwang, that you’d play so dangerously. ‘Student-teacher’ role-play during the day, and at night…”
Before she could finish, Su Huaiwang clapped a hand over her mouth, blushing with embarrassment and anger.
“How can you say such things! Is it my fault I dream about her!”
“I think your body is quite willing.”
“Humans have rationality precisely so we can be distinguished from animals!”
Su Huaiwang glared at her. “Seriously, why did you come? Was it really just to hang out?”
If that were the case, Tu Zhizhuo would usually tell her beforehand. Since she didn’t, she was probably cooking up something bad.
Despite her poor attitude, Tu Zhizhuo wasn’t annoyed, saying with an air of composure, “Wasn’t I just concerned for you, so I specially came over to help you solve your in heat problem?”
“What in heat problem…” Su Huaiwang was dumbfounded, a layer of red on her face from either anger or shame.
“Aren’t you in heat now? You get so lost and ecstatic when having sexual fantasies.”
Su Huaiwang was so angry she laughed instead. “Then tell me, how will you help me?”
“It’s simple.” Tu Zhizhuo boasted shamelessly. “You two do it once. Once you’re disappointed by her bad technique, you won’t think about it anymore… Hey! Don’t hit me! That hurts!”
A moment later, the teary-eyed Tu Zhizhuo was deprived of the right to sit and stood pitifully on the side.
Su Huaiwang’s anger had not completely subsided. “I knew you were unreliable. Listen up, you can say whatever you want in front of me, but don’t involve Lin Jue.”
Tu Zhizhuo was about to nod when she saw Su Huaiwang’s serious expression. “I’m serious.”
“Got it…”
Su Huaiwang didn’t pursue it further and changed the topic. “How many days are you staying this time?”
“Four days.” After confirming that Su Huaiwang had forgiven her, Tu Zhizhuo very naturally found a sofa to sit on.
She had to admit, Su Huaiwang was both easily angered and good at calming herself down; she was simply fun to tease.
While thinking these disrespectful thoughts, Tu Zhizhuo’s mouth kept moving:
“Have you ever thought that you keep having wet dreams about her every night because you’ve been alone here for too long and are getting stir-crazy? Humans are social animals, after all. Look at this place, she’s the only one available for your fantasies, and she just happens to be so good-looking!”
Su Huaiwang frowned. “It’s not her problem.”
“Yes, yes.” Tu Zhizhuo readily agreed, quickly changing her words. “So, think about it. Is that it?”
After thinking it over, Su Huaiwang hesitantly nodded.
“See! That’s right! Why don’t you come stay at my place for a while and experience the city’s nightlife? Maybe once your brain is filled with other things, you won’t constantly think about this stuff!” Tu Zhizhuo’s reasoning was sound. “You see, as the saying goes, if a person doesn’t have other recreational activities, they can only…”
“Enough, enough,” Su Huaiwang interrupted her, unable to take it anymore. “I get it. I’ll consider it.”
With that, she furrowed her brow and sank into thought.
Tu Zhizhuo was silent for a moment, then cautiously asked, “Um… Actually, I have another guess. Do you want to hear it?”
“What?” Su Huaiwang looked up, eyeing her suspiciously.
“You’re at that age, you know, right? What I’m saying is, is there a possibility—and I mean just a possibility—that you… are actually falling for her?”
“No way.”
Su Huaiwang’s answer was firm and absolute, without a trace of hesitation.
Tu Zhizhuo pouted, a touch of sympathy rising in her heart for Lin Jue.
“Fine, whatever you say then.” She simply threw her hands up, waiting for Su Huaiwang to eat her words later.
This attitude naturally annoyed Su Huaiwang, but she didn’t want to argue with her friend anymore, simply sweeping the small interlude out of her mind.
