She Comes Into My Dreams Every Night - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: A Guilty Conscience
After saying goodbye to Lei Yinyin, Tu Zhizhuo returned to her apartment, threw off her shoes, and collapsed onto the large bed.
It was near the end of the summer vacation, and she had been working almost nonstop at the agency, even squeezing out time for today’s competition.
Fortunately, she had a public holiday in two days and could finally get some good rest.
With her face pressed against the soft duvet, Tu Zhizhuo looked out at the bustling night view through the floor-to-ceiling windows, feeling a sudden sense of loneliness.
As the spoiled eldest daughter of her family, her living conditions were naturally excellent.
The apartment wasn’t huge, but it was located in a prime area very close to her workplace, and while not large, it still had space for a piano and other musical instruments.
The room was a mess. She wasn’t as diligent as Su Huaiwang and tended to neglect housework when busy. The maid came twice a week and always had to clean up her clutter.
Sometimes she truly wondered if she had a special talent for messing up a house.
Thinking of Su Huaiwang brought back the conversation she had with Lei Yinyin this afternoon.
Tu Zhizhuo sighed, wriggled, and buried her head in the pillow.
She wanted to find some folk masters for Su Huaiwang, but Lei Yinyin had explicitly refused, saying it might alert the enemy…
She had one good habit: not interfering with professionals.
Lei Yinyin told her not to worry too much, that the situation wasn’t very serious. But… that was her friend! How could she not worry?
Tu Zhizhuo rolled over on the bed, scratching her head in frustration.
It looked like she would have to skip work to spend some time with Su Huaiwang. She figured her old man, who hated seeing people idle, would start nagging again.
She casually turned on the bedroom light and dialed a video call.
It was already dark. Could Lin Jue still be there? If so, she would definitely have to suspect that the two of them were actually sleeping together.
The video rang, but Su Huaiwang didn’t answer.
A few seconds later, a reply came.
【Su Huaiwang】: Eating
Eating? She can’t video call me just because she’s eating?
【Su Huaiwang】: Lin Jue is here too. I’ll call you back tonight.
She really is there?!
Are you two cohabiting?!
Tu Zhizhuo was shocked, Tu Zhizhuo did not understand.
She should have just told Lei Yinyin right then and there, No, no, look at these two. Their relationship is highly irregular. How can you so simply confine their illicit affair within the bounds of time?
【Su Huaiwang】: Have you eaten?
Tu Zhizhuo snapped back to attention. Good, she still remembers me.
【Tu Zhizhuo】: Not yet, I’m so hungry… Some people are having a sweet candlelight dinner with a pretty girl, while others have to miserably eat a bowl of instant noodles after work…
She immediately played the victim, but Su Huaiwang was who she was. She wouldn’t be easily misled.
【Su Huaiwang】: Didn’t you have the day off today?
【Su Huaiwang】: Stop with the smooth talk. You’re better off ordering takeout quickly, or even having the supermarket deliver some groceries. Just fry them up with all that oil from your mouth.
She was still so merciless.
【Tu Zhizhuo】: Some people get to eat a love-filled meal cooked by someone else, while others are only coldly told to order takeout…
【Su Huaiwang】: Are you jealous of me?
【Tu Zhizhuo】: ?
【Su Huaiwang】: Lin Jue cooked today.
With that, a photo was sent. Besides a table full of colorful, fragrant, and delicious dishes, a porcelain-white hand that had accidentally strayed into the frame was also visible.
The way the fingers were relaxed and holding the chopsticks looked particularly tempting.
Tell me, how does she get all the good things?
Tu Zhizhuo truly shed tears of envy now, which flowed all the way onto her phone keyboard.
【Tu Zhizhuo】: That’s great. Both your top and bottom are well-fed.
【Su Huaiwang】: ?
【Su Huaiwang】: What do you mean?
【Su Huaiwang】: Why are you always so dirty? Why do you always think about these things?
【Su Huaiwang】: If you have sexual repression, remember to take care of it yourself. Don’t go in heat here, okay?
A barrage of messages hit her. Even though Tu Zhizhuo couldn’t see her now, she could imagine her flushing from head to toe.
Heh, she knew Su Huaiwang too well. On the surface, she looked calm and serene, but she was actually a major closet pervert.
The number of resources, links, and files stored on her phone, computer, and cloud drive was probably more than the balance in her bank account.
She sneered, satisfied.
She silenced her phone and tossed it aside.
With her mood improved, Miss Tu, for a rare change, decided to cook for herself.
She tied up her hair.
So what if it’s a woman’s love-filled meal? How rare can it be! I, Tu Zhizhuo, can cook too!
…
After a satisfying meal, she packed the leftovers into the fridge for another time.
Tu Zhizhuo took a shower and, while drying her hair and returning to the bedroom, realized that Su Huaiwang’s message offensive had long stopped.
She scrolled through them casually.
She saw that most of Su Huaiwang’s messages were frantic attempts at self-justification.
If she doesn’t have a guilty conscience, who does?
She just didn’t know if this “guilty conscience” was purely due to sexual desire or if it had some other meaning.
But this was good enough.
She and Su Huaiwang had been friends for so long, and she had never seen Su Huaiwang like this.
It wasn’t that she wasn’t interested in romance, but… There’s always tomorrow. Tomorrow is always another day. Romance was inherently useless, and her schedule and pace couldn’t be interrupted, regardless of the timing.
Moreover, Su Huaiwang was clear about her own sexual orientation.
If she actually brought home a girlfriend, her parents would probably be furious.
Tu Zhizhuo even suspected that, facing the person who “stole” their precious daughter, Su Huaiwang’s parents would hire someone to break the other person’s legs.
While it sounded a bit dark, if Su Huaiwang’s parents didn’t die, Su Huaiwang might really just live according to their plans.
Career, marriage, children… or perhaps, in some sudden moment, a spectacular collapse.
Tu Zhizhuo suspected the latter was more likely.
Leaving that aside for now. Su Huaiwang’s last message was that she would call her back tonight because she had something she wanted to ask her.
Tu Zhizhuo’s curiosity was immediately piqued.
Most likely relationship troubles. She smirked.
As for the other two-tenths… Suddenly remembering something, the smile on Tu Zhizhuo’s face vanished, and her brows furrowed.
Could Su Huaiwang really have encountered something strange?
She remained silent for a moment, then shook the thought out of her head.
Hah, what’s the big deal? If it’s a blessing, it’s not a disaster. If it’s a disaster, you can’t avoid it. If something’s wrong, fix it. Don’t speculate when there’s nothing.
She raised her hand and cheerfully typed in the chat box.
【Tu Zhizhuo】: Okay, waiting for you, babe.
…
At 9:30 PM, the video call finally rang.
Tu Zhizhuo answered immediately, and Su Huaiwang’s face instantly appeared on the screen.
“Did you miss me, or are you too busy having fun with a woman to remember the world exists?”
She grinned widely.
Su Huaiwang, wearing pajamas and lying on her bed, rolled her eyes dismissively at her words.
“I did miss you. I was wondering if you were working yourself to death.”
Tu Zhizhuo’s face immediately drooped.
“Let me quit… Work is not meant for humans… Look at my skin, oh my god, stressed out and staying up late. What a mess.”
Su Huaiwang raised an eyebrow and leaned closer to look.
She couldn’t see anything wrong with Tu Zhizhuo’s skin, but Tu Zhizhuo herself suddenly gasped.
“Ah! Why do you look so weak!”
Su Huaiwang: ?
She immediately pulled her face away from the camera.
“Haven’t been sleeping well lately? Having nightmares? Do you need to see a doctor?”
Tu Zhizhuo’s reaction was inexplicably strong and extremely worried. Su Huaiwang cleared her throat, a slight blush spreading across her face.
“No, no nightmares. I can’t say I haven’t slept well, though maybe a little poorly. But it’s not terribly bad; it’s not at the point where I need to see anyone…”
Her eyes darted around, and her words were evasive.
Tu Zhizhuo stared at her quietly for a while, then spoke:
“…Wet dreams?”
Su Huaiwang: ?!
Her fair face turned even redder, and her eyebrows knitted together.
Tu Zhizhuo knew she was right and maintained a relaxed expression.
If this was the “abnormality” Lei Yinyin was talking about, then what was haunting Su Huaiwang was probably a succubus or a vixen spirit.
Su Huaiwang’s essence is being drained! Look how dark those under-eye circles are! What on earth is that thing doing to her in her dreams! Can I try it too!
Back to the point, trying it is definitely not possible.
On the other side, Su Huaiwang had already convinced herself, wearing an expression of reckless abandon, and she nodded vehemently:
“Yes, they are wet dreams.”
Then, she took a deep breath:
“I’m an adult, after all. It’s perfectly normal to have wet dreams, right!”
“Yes, normal, normal. I had one yesterday too. The guy didn’t use his tongue when kissing, so I scolded him.”
Tu Zhizhuo quickly played along.
Seeing Su Huaiwang’s expression soften, she asked again:
“So, who is the object? Who is it?”
“… Lin Jue.”
Her voice was too soft. Tu Zhizhuo put her ear to the mic and still didn’t hear clearly.
“Who?” Tu Zhizhuo was a bit confused, then surprised. “My goodness! It couldn’t be me, could it!”
“It’s LIN JUE!!!” Su Huaiwang’s sudden loudness made Tu Zhizhuo’s ears hurt.
She rubbed her ears. “If it’s Lin Jue, it’s Lin Jue. Why are you shouting so loud… Lin Jue?”
The woman’s eyes lit up, but then she showed a troubled expression. “…Is she legal?”
Tu Zhizhuo’s cautious tone stung Su Huaiwang.
She closed her eyes, her lungs aching from her friend’s infuriating concern.
“She’s twenty.”
Tu Zhizhuo immediately beamed. “That’s good, that’s good!”
“What’s so good about it? Is there any way to stop having… these kinds of dreams?”
“Are you having them every day?” Tu Zhizhuo became a little more alert.
A few times was normal, but having them every day was definitely abnormal. That could only mean Lin Jue was a beautiful ghost draining her essence.
She still had a good impression of Lin Jue and didn’t want to suspect her.
Su Huaiwang hesitated. “Not every day, but…” She still didn’t want her friend to know her self-gratification frequency.
“It’s only when I have… that thought that I will…”
Su Huaiwang was stammering, not even finished speaking, when Tu Zhizhuo slapped her thigh and came to a conclusion:
“Then you’re just using her as a tool to relieve your sexual urges!”
Su Huaiwang immediately tensed up. “Can you not shout so loud!”
She covered her phone, subconsciously glancing around.
“What, is she staying at your place tonight? Go for it! Go, go, go! How will you know if it won’t work if you don’t try! Maybe she also wants to f…”
Su Huaiwang physically muted Tu Zhizhuo, preventing the latter, more vulgar part of the sentence from being heard.
She sneered coldly. “If she was at my place, how would I dare to call you?” The nerve of this person to say anything.
“Listen, I don’t like her. I’m just… sexually repressed, okay?”
Tu Zhizhuo looked at her self-hypnotizing friend and sighed deeply. “If you think so, then so be it.”
“What an attitude.” Su Huaiwang tsk-ed, not delving deeper, afraid of hearing something unbearable.
“If you’re sexually repressed, can’t you solve it yourself?”
“It doesn’t work!” Su Huaiwang’s eyes widened.
Tu Zhizhuo shrugged, her tone indifferent. “Then you deserve to enjoy it! That’s great, exclusive service from the little beauty. I want it too…”
“You are not allowed to think that!”
“So much jealousy. You’re like this before even dating. I can’t imagine what you’ll be like later.”
Su Huaiwang was speechless. “I knew there was no point in asking you.”
She regretted telling Tu Zhizhuo this matter now.
“Keep it a secret for me.”
“Okay, okay.”
“Don’t make a big deal out of it!” Her current state of having wet dreams definitely wasn’t permanent. She couldn’t let Tu Zhizhuo exaggerate and potentially cause a scene in front of Lin Jue.
Tu Zhizhuo paused, and a mischievous spark flashed in her eyes. “Good, good.”
Regardless of Su Huaiwang’s reaction on the other side of the screen, she stroked her chin, smugly satisfied.
Not cause trouble?
Is not causing trouble even possible?
Sigh, Su Huaiwang is still too naive. She knows nothing about matters of the heart and is probably foolishly trying to restrain herself with reason.
Please, your dreams have already betrayed you!
Tu Zhizhuo chuckled to herself.
It was time for her best friend to step in. She was serious about causing some mischief.
