Seduced By My Omega Stepsister - Chapter 27
“Do I need to compete with others for you?”
Aside from those reading scripts, giving orders, or competing, enthusiasm for the sports meet wasn’t actually that high. Most people huddled in their class sections, with only a few wandering around.
The school canteen had moved its goods out onto the field. Currently, the men’s 3000 meter race was underway; the women’s group still had a while to go. Fu Zhou drifted toward the logistics department, seemingly unintentional, passing by the canteen stall.
“Want to buy a piece of chocolate to suck on?” Zhou Heyu stopped and tugged at Fu Zhou’s sleeve.
“I didn’t bring cash.”
“Student, we brought the card reader out with us!” Hearing her, the owner hurried to pull out a familiar school card machine from under the counter.
Fu Zhou stared at the machine, silent for a moment, before swiping her card for four pieces of chocolate.
“Thanks for your hard work.”
“No trouble at all, happy to serve the students!”
Fu Zhou handed a piece each to Zhou Heyu and Zhang Meng, then tore open a wrapper and popped one into her own mouth.
The logistics department was set up at the finish line to make it easier for the Student Union members to support runners who collapsed after finishing. As Fu Zhou walked under the tent, Chu Xiyu happened to be helping a girl down, handing her a cup of sugar water.
“Why aren’t you warming up in the prep area?” Chu Xiyu had seen Fu Zhou from a distance. Her voice was soft and gentle, carrying a clear, bright smile.
“Because I wanted to see you.” Fu Zhou’s breath carried a hint of heat, it seemed an Alpha’s body temperature was always higher than an Omega’s, and the tips of her ears flushed crimson more easily.
Chu Xiyu’s eyes crinkled. In the next instant, she stood lightly on her tiptoes. Her rose scented breath brushed against Fu Zhou’s lips, and a cold sensation spread at the corner of her mouth as the rose pheromones receded like a tide.
Chu Xiyu turned around to toss the chocolate wrapper into a bin. “Eat a piece of chocolate. If you can’t run later, speak up. Don’t push yourself.”
Fu Zhou blinked, staring at her blankly. It took a moment for her to react, her tongue curling to take the chocolate from her lips. Her eyes brightened.
“Okay.”
Turning back, she found Zhou Heyu and Zhang Meng staring at her unblinkingly, like two surveillance cameras.
“What are you two doing?”
Fu Zhou looked at them strangely, wondering if she should hire a Taoist priest to perform an exorcism. The kids are acting weird, it’s a bit creepy.
“Fu Zhou, given the way your ‘sister’ treats you, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call you a couple. What exactly are you moping about?”
Fu Zhou’s puppy-like eyes sparkled, her lips barely able to suppress a grin.
“From now on, say that into my ear every morning.”
Perhaps people in love really do lose some IQ especially someone like Fu Zhou, who was leaning heavily into the “lovesick” territory. After confirming her feelings for Chu Xiyu, she had become the most active member of their three person group chat.
She was either screaming in the chat that Chu Xiyu definitely liked her, or crouching in a corner gloomily posting that there was no hope and she was giving up the pursuit.
Usually, the former happened in the morning and the latter deep at night.
Zhou Heyu took one look at the person currently smiling like a fool and knew it was “daytime mode” again.
The loudspeaker began calling for the women’s 3000 meter group. Fu Zhou and Zhang Meng rushed to the small tent by the starting line, put on their blue vests, and began warming up.
“Hey, Zhou Heyu, do you think Chu Xiyu will notice the hidden meaning in my number?”
Zhou Heyu looked at the prominent number “5” on the blue vest. “I don’t know about Chu Xiyu, but I certainly don’t see any ‘clever’ touch.”
“It’s so obvious! My name has two characters, and Chu Xiyu’s has three. Together, they make five!”
Zhou Heyu was silent for a long time before asking, “What’s your zodiac sign?”
“Virgo.”
“Figures.”
An Earth sign, Zhou Heyu thought, falling silent. They were just like that.
Although Fu Zhou usually seemed like an optimistic, cheerful puppy, Zhou Heyu could occasionally catch a glimpse of a lonely shadow in the gaps of her silence.
The thirteen runners on the track finished stretching and took their starting positions.
Zhou Heyu scanned them briefly, they were almost all female Alphas. For a 3000 meter race, most high schoolers simply didn’t have the stamina unless they were Alphas.
Alphas were naturally stronger than ordinary people, which inevitably led to a sense of superiority. As the dozen or so gathered, some were already flexing their arm muscles to intimidate the others before the race even began.
Then there were her two friends.
Fu Zhou wore a short-sleeved shirt. As her arms tensed slightly, faint veins appeared, she hadn’t worn a sleeveless shirt to show off muscle lines like the others, yet from a distance, her arms looked the most powerful and agile. Her physical superiority was obvious.
Zhang Meng was even more low-key. she wore a thin jacket, the sunlight hitting her cool-toned skin made her look slightly sickly. She looked like she belonged to a different world than the group of athletic Alphas.
The starter pistol was raised. Seconds later, a loud bang echoed, and Fu Zhou started steadily, maintaining a position in the middle of the pack.
It was a good spot, saving energy without falling behind, ready for the final sprint. Zhang Meng followed two people behind Fu Zhou.
Zhou Heyu nodded and headed toward the increasingly crowded finish line. She planned to meet them there.
Though, she wasn’t sure if she could squeeze through.
Of the dozen Alphas on the track, almost every one had plenty of admirers. Especially after a grueling 3000 meter run when they were at their most vulnerable, there was no shortage of people offering warmth and concern.
Not to mention, Fu Zhou alone had a whole “fan club,” and Zhang Meng was a top-tier Alpha.
Zhou Heyu fought her way to the front. To her surprise, her friend who had been in the middle of the pack was now in the lead, at least thirty meters ahead of second place.
Zhou Heyu: “???”
Sister, are you planning on making it back for dinner? Going that fast at the start… you’re going to have to grit your teeth to the end.
Under the logistics tent, several girls who were supposed to be on their phones stood up, gazing toward the runners.
“Holy crap, is Fu Zhou that cracked? She’s nearly thirty meters ahead!”
“I don’t know. Maybe top-tier Alphas are just different. And how can someone look that handsome while running? So bright, so youthful!”
Chu Xiyu looked up and found Fu Zhou instantly.
On the track, the girl’s lips had lost some color, yet her speed didn’t falter. She looked toward the crowd at the finish line, her eyes narrowing slightly.
During the final lap, Fu Zhou’s steps grew heavy. Her chest felt as if it were being crushed, making it hard to breathe. Every breath felt like inhaling shards of glass, scraping her throat raw.
Fifty meters, thirty meters, ten meters, she crossed the line. Various blurred faces swarmed around her. She was on the verge of collapsing, yet she gritted her teeth and walked toward the place where the scent of roses was strongest.
Finally, her legs gave out, and she fell into the arms of a female classmate. The girl hurried to support her, her ears turning red as she asked if she was okay.
Fu Zhou shook her head. In her vision, that pale shadow finally pushed through the crowd. A pair of light-colored peach-blossom eyes looked down, hiding a multitude of emotions.
“Classmate, please help her to the tent up ahead. I’ll go help the other runners.”
As they brushed past each other, Fu Zhou grabbed her arm. The grip was light, but her fingers were trembling.
“Chu Xiyu, do I need to compete with others for you?” Her voice was faint, but it landed in Chu Xiyu’s heart with the weight of a thousand pounds. Her emotions felt like a flower branch unable to bear the weight of a dewdrop, trembling as it bent.
Chu Xiyu finally took Fu Zhou who was already leaning into her, from the other girl’s arms.
The rush of heat and the accidental leak of the youth’s green plum wine pheromones enveloped her like tightening vines, silently complaining about what had just happened.
Top-tier Alphas have strong recovery abilities. After Chu Xiyu fed her some sugar water, Fu Zhou was able to walk freely within a few minutes, though her face remained pale.
However, Fu Zhou showed no intention of talking. She sat there with “Please coax me” written all over her face.
Chu Xiyu chuckled and walked over, squatting in front of Fu Zhou.
“Are you angry?”
Angry that she wasn’t waiting right at the finish line.
“You don’t need to compete with anyone for me, because I belong to you.” Chu Xiyu’s voice was very soft and sweet. As she spoke, the youth’s pale ears rapidly turned red.
“Hmph.” Fu Zhou buried her face in Chu Xiyu’s shoulder. Noticing a few drops of sweat fall from her nose onto Chu Xiyu’s collar, she guiltily shifted away.
The crowd in front, which should have dispersed, was still gathered. A few logistics workers cleared a path and carried someone out on a stretcher.
Fainting at a sports meet was common; an ambulance was on standby outside, and there were stretchers and doctors in the tent.
“Is there really an Alpha weak enough to faint from a 3000 meter run?” Fu Zhou peered over curiously. A moment later, her expression froze.
“Wait… why does that look like Zhang Meng?”
The stretcher passed them into the tent. Fu Zhou hurried after it, looking at Zhang Meng’s excessively pale face. Zhou Heyu also rushed over, slightly out of breath from running.
“What happened? Why did Zhang Meng faint? She was doing so well at the start, she finished fourth!” Zhou Heyu’s brows furrowed as she looked at Zhang Meng, then at the doctor in the white coat.
“What else could it be? People faint either because they lack the stamina or because they refuse to quit and push themselves to the brink. Your friend is the latter, pushing herself like her life depended on it. As soon as she hit the finish line, she crashed.”
“It’s nothing serious, though. I’ll give her some glucose.”
Chu Xiyu followed behind Fu Zhou. Zhang Meng, lying on the stretcher, struggled to open her eyes and met Chu Xiyu’s gaze.
Only Chu Xiyu knew.
Zhang Meng was an Omega. And only she knew how much willpower it took for an Omega to finish a 3000 meter race and beat nine Alphas in the process.
