Seduced By My Omega Stepsister - Chapter 26
She tasted it.
Chu Xiyu took the phone away, acting in her capacity as the elder sister.
The metal casing still carried the warmth of Fu Zhou’s fingertips. Chu Xiyu curved her lips into a smile and tucked the device into the inner pocket of her school uniform, the spot closest to her skin.
“Xiao Zhou, behave well. You can come to get it from me tonight.”
With that, she brushed past her and continued walking. Only the slight lingering warmth where their fingers had accidentally touched remained, flickering alongside the chaotic thrumming of Fu Zhou’s heart.
What did “behaving well” mean? In what aspect? Academically? As her Alpha? Or simply as a good sister?
When Fu Zhou returned to the classroom, the teacher only spared her a brief glance before returning to the textbook. On her desk sat several blank test papers. As she sat down and flipped through them, a crumpled ball of paper was tossed onto her desk from the seat in front.
“These are all the papers that need to be turned in by the end of the day. It’s Wednesday, so we’re dismissed at six.”
It was Zhou Heyu’s handwriting. Fu Zhou looked up at the clock hanging next to the blackboard, it was 4:30 PM.
In other high schools in the city, including the regular classes at theirs, evening self-study had been canceled. However, the Goal of the “Top-Tier Class” (Qiangji Class) was to get into Tsinghua or Peking University. Consequently, they didn’t have evening self-study on odd-numbered days but did on even-numbered ones, with school letting out at 3:00 PM on weekends.
Starting now, she’d likely only finish half. Fu Zhou poked Zhou Heyu’s back.
“Let me copy the ones you’ve finished.”
“Sure.”
Fu Zhou completed nearly half the questions, noted down the ones she couldn’t solve, and handed in her answer sheet at dismissal, stuffing the question papers into her bag.
Having been in school for a year and a half, the white backpack Fu Zhou bought in her first year still looked brand new. Zhou Heyu looked at her with a hint of rarity in her eyes.
“Why are you bringing a backpack? To study?”
Fu Zhou rolled her eyes. “To block bullets, alright?”
Chu Xiyu’s movements were always a bit faster. When Fu Zhou climbed into the car, she was met with a full embrace of rose scented pheromones. Habitually closing the car door, Fu Zhou nestled into Chu Xiyu’s arms like a puppy wagging its tail.
“I did the test papers today and circled the ones I didn’t know. Does that count as behaving well?”
Chu Xiyu set aside the book she was reading. From the moment Fu Zhou entered, her gaze followed her, her eyes curving into a shallow, clear smile.
“It doesn’t.”
“Then what does?” Fu Zhou leaned in closer. Their breaths intertwined, hot and heavy, as the atmosphere grew thick with ambiguity. Outside the car window, shadows shifted, the dense trees lining the midsummer road flashed by, casting patches of sunlight and shade across her hopeful face.
“You need to tell me if you’re taking a leave of absence. And you need to tell me if you’re doing anything… regarding me.”
“Why?”
“Because I am your sister.”
Not just doing things, but doing things “regarding her.”
The difference of a few words carved a distinct, clear boundary.
Fu Zhou didn’t go to Chu Xiyu’s room to get her phone. Instead, she opened her laptop. The latest message in the class group chat was a notification about tomorrow’s Sports Meet.
Classes were suspended for the entire school during the Sports Meet. It started at 7:00 AM and ended at 5:00 PM for two days, followed immediately by midterms.
A user labeled “Class Committee” sent her a private message:
“Zhang Bo signed up for the mixed 1000 meter relay, but he suddenly said he doesn’t want to go. No matter how much we persuade him, it’s no use. Fu Zhou, can you help run it for him?”
“No.” Fu Zhou lowered her eyes. A vague image of the boy appeared in her mind: buzz cut, unshaven, about the same height as Zhou Heyu, quiet, a sharp featured STEM nerd whose grades were only slightly higher than hers, the two of them constantly vied for the bottom two spots in class.
“Oh, please, I beg you! You know our class, everyone is usually busy grinding problems. No one has time to exercise. We finally scraped a team together, and you, Zhang Meng, and Zhou Heyu are the only ones with any athletic ability. If you don’t do it, I’ll have to ask Zhang Meng…”
Fu Zhou frowned slightly. She remembered how pale Zhang Meng had looked during that fight; it seemed her health hadn’t fully recovered even after her leave.
“Don’t ask Zhang Meng. I’ll do it.”
“Great, great! Fu Zhou, you are the coolest Alpha in the world. First the 3000 meter, then the 1000 meter.”
“Back to back?”
The “Typing…” status lasted at least three minutes before a message finally crawled out.
“There’s a twenty-minute break in between.”
Fu Zhou shut her laptop.
A twenty-minute break?! How was she supposed to run that? Where would she even run to? Would she even make it back for dinner?
Frustrated, she ruffled her hair and reopened the laptop to search:
“Can an Alpha who hasn’t trained specifically finish a 1000 meter race twenty minutes after a 3000 meter race?”
Search result:
“Is it a professional competition? Professional races have ambulances. It is not recommended for newly differentiated Alphas. However, if you have thick skin or a ‘Heart Chosen Omega’ in the stands, you can go for it.”
Fine. She’d go for it.
Fu Zhou closed her laptop and walked out of her room with renewed spirit, only to pause when she saw the light spilling from under Chu Xiyu’s door.
Those cool, slightly amused words echoed in her ears again.
She is my sister.
The marking was an emergency, a form of help between “sisters.” Sleeping together, watching movies, accompanying her, it was all because she was her sister.
Is that so?
Fu Zhou lowered her gaze, the darkness in her eyes flickering.
How logical.
She felt a bitter taste in her mouth, unsure if it was from the surge of emotions or a sensory hallucination.
Her pillow was still in Chu Xiyu’s room. She had picked that pillow herself, watching it being made, it fit the curve of her spine perfectly. She could leave the bed, but she couldn’t leave her pillow.
But right now, she didn’t want to go to Chu Xiyu’s room at all. Was there any other way to fall asleep quickly?
Fu Zhou wandered around the house, her eyes catching a glimpse of Fu Li’s display cabinet specifically, a bottle of exquisitely wrapped medicinal liquor.
She remembered Fu Li saying that if he couldn’t sleep, he’d have a small glass to help him drift off and nourish the body.
Just a little bit shouldn’t… be a problem.
10:30 PM. Fu Zhou’s usual bedtime.
Chu Xiyu looked at the two pillows on the bed. A few seconds later, she turned toward the slightly ajar door, her pale eyes flickering with an unidentifiable emotion.
Fu Zhou hadn’t come over yet.
She looked at the phone on the nightstand. A message popped up on the open WeChat interface:
“Fu Zhou, I really think you have a chance. Don’t lose heart just because she says she’s your sister. At least the relationship is ambiguous. What kind of sisters interact like this? Take it slow, be patient.”
The wallpaper on Fu Zhou’s phone, a little dog wagging its tail reflected in the girl’s pale eyes. Her expression remained unreadable.
She turned off the phone. The moment she opened the door, she was hit by the scent of green plum wine mixed with a hint of medicinal liquor. It wasn’t strong, but Chu Xiyu’s sensitivity to Fu Zhou’s pheromones was so high that she could detect even the slightest impurity.
In the dim light, she looked down from the landing. The girl sitting at the dining table was holding a glass usually used for milk, sipping nonchalantly. Hearing the movement upstairs, the girl lifted her misty eyes. As she looked up, the aura of coldness and aloofness surrounding her instantly crumbled.
With that single look, the gaze of the “puppy” who had stolen a drink downstairs locked onto her, following her step by step until Chu Xiyu stood before her.
“Sister.” The puppy’s warm breath carried a hint of alcohol.
Chu Xiyu’s eyes remained emotionless. She calmly took the bottle of wine which had barely been touched and placed it back in the cabinet. Then, she crouched down to look at Fu Zhou and the half-finished glass in her hand.
“Do you know the alcohol content of this medicinal liquor is very high?”
Fu Zhou tilted her head.
“Do you know you have a 3000 meter race tomorrow?”
Chu Xiyu’s voice finally betrayed a hint of anger.
Fu Zhou nodded. Perhaps emboldened by the depth of the night, she leaned even closer to Chu Xiyu, her lips curving into a smile.
“Sister, do you want to taste it?” Her alcohol laced breath brushed against Chu Xiyu’s lips. The heart that had been angry a moment ago suddenly changed its rhythm, drumming against her ears.
Fu Zhou’s other hand circled Chu Xiyu’s waist, reaching past her to grab the glass from the table. She pressed it against the corner of Chu Xiyu’s mouth, her voice unconsciously pleading, like a spoiled child.
“Sister?”
The next moment, a pair of warm lips landed on the corner of her mouth. The drumming heartbeat echoed, she couldn’t tell if it was hers or Chu Xiyu’s. The bitter taste of the liquor mixed with the scent of rose pheromones, and for no reason at all, Fu Zhou tasted a hint of sweetness.
A few seconds later, Chu Xiyu withdrew a few centimeters. She extended a finger to stop the “puppy” who, having tasted success, was trying to lean in again. A low chuckle escaped her throat.
“Drunkard.”
She had tasted it.
The moment Chu Xiyu spoke, the half-glass of wine in Fu Zhou’s hand slipped and shattered on the floor. The clear, yellowish liquid splashed onto their touching clothes, the intense aroma of alcohol seeping into the air.
It was inexplicably intoxicating.
In Fu Zhou’s eyes, there was blatant, undisguised emotion and possessiveness, her curved smile radiated pure affection.
This time, Chu Xiyu was the first to look away. She stood up quickly, her loose long hair covering the slight, burning redness at the tips of her ears.
Her somewhat hurried footsteps stopped at the top of the stairs.
“Are you not coming to sleep tonight?”
“I’ll go after I clean this up.”
“Okay. I’ll wait for you.”
In the room, Chu Xiyu changed into another set of pajamas and sat by the bed.
Away from the scent of green plum wine pheromones, her racing heart finally began to slow down. She opened the bedside drawer and pulled out the photo of Fu Zhou that her mother had given her. She gripped it so tightly that the edges pricked her palm.
Everything was moving in the best direction she had imagined; she was just… a little bit unwilling.
Just a little bit.
The person who had been drinking finally lay on her favorite pillow, looking exceptionally well-behaved.
She draped her arm over Chu Xiyu’s waist, sinking entirely into her embrace. Despite being such a large Alpha, she looked small when she was asleep.
Chu Xiyu couldn’t sleep. She looked down, watching the moonlight filter through the gap in the curtains. By that dim light and the small bedside lamp she had left on for Fu Zhou, she carefully studied the girl’s features.
If this were ten years later, the person Fu Zhou loved would be so lucky.
A youth’s love is sincere and intense, when it comes toward you, it feels like being hit by a warm midsummer breeze.
But she didn’t believe in that, nor did she dare to bet on the duration of that love.
An Omega’s pheromones can bind an Alpha for a lifetime. That was why, when Fu Zhou had marked her and her consciousness was blurred, she had used every last bit of her strength to push Fu Zhou away.
She didn’t want to use the bond of pheromones to achieve anything at that moment. In her plans, in her long life, there was no part for staying with Fu Zhou.
Her plan allowed for no errors.
At the opening ceremony of the Sports Meet, Fu Zhou opened her eyes and lazily watched the classes on the track pass by, dressed in various cosplays and Lolita fashion.
She was only interested in the upcoming races.
Yet, for some reason, her section was incredibly attracting, every passing team had countless eyes drifting toward her.
The two people sitting next to Fu Zhou whispered to each other.
“These people are definitely looking at Fu Zhou. The annual ‘makeup and find a mate’ opportunity… though they might be looking at you too, you’re a top-tier Alpha, right?”
Zhang Meng glanced indifferently at Zhou Heyu. “No one is looking at me.”
“Fine, fine, if no one’s looking at you, then no one’s looking at you. Why are you being so mean?”
Zhang Meng: “…”
They had been together for a year and a half, and now she was calling her mean? Totally unreasonable.
“Hey, Fu Zhou, you only have the 3000 meter, right? Is it this morning?”
The Alpha, who had been disinterested, turned her head nonchalantly. “Zhang Bo didn’t want to run at the last minute, so the class committee asked me to fill in. I have to run a 1000 meter too.”
Zhou Heyu frowned. “The 1000 meter is right after the 3000 meter. How are you going to run that?”
Zhou Heyu was running the 1000 meter herself. Zhang Meng and Fu Zhou were both in the 3000-meter. With only a twenty-minute gap to clear the track and record scores, what sane person would schedule a runner for back to back events?
“Look at our class. Besides us, who else can run? They’re all frail scholars.” Fu Zhou glanced briefly at Zhang Bo, who was sitting in his seat as if nothing was wrong.
As if sensing her gaze, the usually taciturn boy looked at her briefly. When he turned away, the tips of his ears were slightly red.
How weird.
Fu Zhou turned around and tapped the shoulder of the class committee member in front of her.
“What did you tell Zhang Bo about me running for him?”
The committee member turned around, confused. “I told him to rest well if he wasn’t feeling good, and that you said you’d help him out.”
Fu Zhou twitched the corner of her mouth.
“Please don’t describe such an irresponsible, sick-minded act of needing someone else to clean up his mess as ‘romantic.’ If he’s not feeling well, he should get his ass to the hospital.”
Zhang Meng’s eyelids lowered, a hint of coldness inexplicably emerging. She now had the worst possible impression of Zhang Bo.
“Alright, alright, don’t be mad. I’m a top-tier Alpha, after all,” Fu Zhou smiled, patting Zhang Meng’s back soothingly.
The opening ceremony ended quickly. Fu Zhou looked down. The Student Union members were gathered together, and the logistics department was moving water under the shaded canopy.
She saw Chu Xiyu.
The tall, slender girl was wearing light-colored clothes, shading her eyes from the sun with one hand. She was strikingly beautiful.
She was the “Heart Chosen Omega.”
Fu Zhou’s Inner Thought: Gotta leave a deep impression in front of my Heart Chosen Omega!
Chu Xiyu looking at the roster with Fu Zhou’s name twice: If you want to die, just say so.
