Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 45
To prevent Tang Yuan’s hunting instincts from harming the fragile little life, Mo Li deliberately placed the swallow, along with its nest, on top of the large wardrobe.
Mo Wang had gone to work, and Mo Li couldn’t bear to listen to the swallow’s faint chirping.
She cooked some rice soup and fed it to the baby bird with a syringe as it opened its beak wide.
Mo Wang left for work again, leaving Mo Li at home with nothing to do but hold Tang Yuan.
She could only stare blankly at her phone.
Her last message to Secretary Su, asking about the company’s recent situation, had yet to receive a reply.
Mo Li suddenly realized that her contact list was filled with business partners and subordinates, all busy with their own affairs.
Back when she was working, it had been natural to assign tasks and talk to them.
Resting her chin on a cushion, Mo Li scrolled through entertainment news featuring celebrities she didn’t recognize. When she saw advertisements for real estate, her thoughts drifted back to work, wondering which companies had recently started promoting property investments.
Time passed minute by minute, and at some point, the lock clicked.
Zuo An came in with lunch, silently placed it on the shoe cabinet by the door, and quickly left.
Mo Li glanced at the wall clock and realized it was almost afternoon.
She hurriedly got up and fed the baby bird again.
Having accomplished nothing all morning, Mo Li began to entertain the idea of sneaking out.
The house had a balcony on the second floor. Though it was high, it wouldn’t be difficult to grab the railing and lower herself onto the ledge below.
But remembering Mo Wang’s hysterical expression, she withdrew her foot.
Going down was easy, but coming back up would be hard.
If she left like this and later reappeared downstairs, waiting for Mo Wang to return home, would the “catnip lady” continue to be plagued by insecurity?
Mo Li sighed deeply and sank back into the sofa, gazing longingly out the window.
This couldn’t go on, she knew.
She couldn’t stay here forever.
But Mo Wang avoided addressing the situation, unwilling to believe in Mo Li’s sincerity, preferring to lose herself in the illusion of tenderness she had woven.
…
Mo Wang didn’t completely restrict her freedom, but whenever they went out, it had to be together.
Outwardly, they seemed inseparable, but in reality, they were drifting apart.
Mo Li rubbed her hands and exhaled a puff of cold air. Mo Wang shared half of her scarf, wrapping it around Mo Li’s neck.
This red scarf was a Christmas gift Mo Li had knitted for her with her own hands.
It was Christmas time, with snowflakes drifting down and lanterns glowing brightly. Many shops displayed classically decorated Christmas trees, and pedestrians on the street wore festive Christmas headbands. The warm red hues contrasted beautifully with the falling white snow.
The two had just returned from a tavern, walking along the nighttime streets.
It was Mo Li who had suggested having a drink to lift her spirits and going somewhere lively to shake off the boredom.
They had even invited Bai Wu to join them, but as someone who usually drank tea and gossiped, she quickly got drunk and was personally picked up by Lin Qianying.
Mo Li and Mo Wang, having spent a long time in the business world, had much higher alcohol tolerance.
Especially Mo Wang, who drank glass after glass without showing any change in expression.
“I didn’t expect you to hold your liquor so well.”
Mo Li pouted. She had hoped to get Mo Wang slightly drunk so they could open up and have a heartfelt conversation when they returned.
“Not really.”
Mo Wang’s eyes sparkled, her cheeks tinged with a delicate pink, making her look radiant and captivating.
A flute-like whistle suddenly cut through their conversation.
A brilliant flash of light erupted, followed by continuous exclamations of awe from the crowd.
Mo Li looked up to see thousands of pale pink fireworks blooming behind Mo Wang, exploding in the dry, cold winter air with the scent of gunpowder that spoke of human warmth.
Perhaps this wasn’t the most suitable moment. Perhaps even if she spoke, she wouldn’t be believed.
But they had already missed those youthful, innocent times, they couldn’t afford to delay any longer.
Overwhelmed by surging emotions and the urge to confess, Mo Li couldn’t hold back.
“This might sound a bit cheesy…”
She gripped Mo Wang’s shoulders firmly, resolute yet with a tender, affectionate smile.
“I love you.” She turned Mo Wang’s face back toward her, meeting the averted gaze. “Whether you believe me or not, I want to be with you. I dream of it.”
“Truly, I love the you who gets jealous, the cold and selfish you, the you who’s always insecure. I love the you who hides your claws and pretends to be a little white rabbit in front of me, and I love the you who gives up and lets your vulnerability pour out.”
“How could…” Mo Wang’s lips trembled slightly, as if unable to find the right words.
“Of course you could. I’m standing right here.”
Mo Li pleaded with genuine sincerity.
“Let me understand you more, okay? No matter what you’ve done or who you are, at least right now, I’m completely devoted to you.”
She gave a soft laugh, full of tolerance and understanding.
“If I learn everything and end up not liking you anymore, then you can lock me away. After all, I won’t be able to run.”
Mo Wang hesitated, then nodded.
“Let’s go back and talk then…”
…
Back at home, Tang Yuan found himself unusually neglected, he was placed in a cat carrier and left in the guest room.
Meanwhile, Mo Li and Mo Wang sat side by side on the sofa, two silent figures facing each other.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Mo Li broke the silence first. “When did you start liking me?”
The question felt both narcissistic and embarrassing. As soon as she asked, her cheeks flushed with warmth.
Mo Wang thought for a moment.
“I’m not entirely sure. I suppose I truly realized it during the years after I left the Mo family. There was no one following behind me, bickering with me while still covering for my flaws.”
“Right.”
Mo Li suddenly remembered.
“Why exactly were you driven out of the Mo family back then?”
Mo Wang let out a bitter laugh.
“Because Mom found out I was an Omega. She went through my room. So, in her eyes, her obedient, outstanding, and quiet Beta daughter suddenly turned into a deceitful, scheming adult Omega.”
“She couldn’t accept it, so she whispered in Father’s ear, saying I had ulterior motives and wanted to take over the Mo family alone. Coincidentally, someone at the company had suggested I take over as CEO, which made Father feel threatened and consider splitting the family.”
Mo Li frowned. “So that’s what happened.”
Mo Wang smiled. “But that day I left, how was the coming-of-age gift I gave you?”
Mo Li recalled that night seven years ago, when Mo Wang had stumbled back reeking of alcohol and mixed pheromones, collapsing onto her.
She had been in her sensitive period at the time but still didn’t know Mo Wang was an Omega.
Carried away in the moment, she made a temporary mark, unaware that the colorless, scentless pheromones had already bonded with her, leaving their imprint.
“Quite memorable.”
Mo Li savored the thought: “No wonder my sensitive period hasn’t come for a long time.”
Mo Wang gave a brief smile.
“Actually, Mom wasn’t wrong. The Mo family took me in precisely because I was good-looking, thinking that if I turned out to be an Alpha or Omega, I could be used for a business-oriented arranged marriage.”
“But I didn’t want that.” Mo Wang lowered her eyes. “It might sound ungrateful, but selling myself was never my duty.”
Mo Li comforted her: “It was their fault.”
“In the first few days after arriving at the Mo family, I actually arranged for servants. When they didn’t listen to me and bullied me, I smashed things so they would get scolded together. I even drove away the previous butler. Starting with the new butler, the servants at the Mo family estate only listened to me.”
Recalling her childhood actions, Mo Wang seemed astonished by her own behavior.
“When Father fell ill, I kept the news quiet and didn’t reveal it. But at that time, I had to play all my cards, using the scandals of various joint investors to threaten them one by one so they wouldn’t withdraw their funds.”
“However, after that, they started to cold-shoulder and exclude me.”
Mo Wang shrugged. “When I was abroad, I was taken care of by Mrs. Li. When I returned to restart Qiang Wei Pharmaceuticals, thanks to these old enemies, I had to put in a tremendous effort.”
“No one has it easy in the business world. When one Mo Wang climbs up from the bottom, someone else jumps off a rooftop because of bankruptcy.”
“Over the years, the number of people I’ve directly or indirectly caused the death of can’t be counted on one hand.”
Mo Wang spoke matter-of-factly, her expression calm.
To her, those people were nothing more than indelible sins from her past, a thorn she used to punish herself. She accepted this thorn, understanding her own filth, as if she had cut open her chest and was staring at her own organs.
Mo Li clasped her hands together.
“Actually, I’ve thought about taking you to turn yourself in and waiting for you to get out.” She forced a smile. “But I was afraid you’d die inside. This selfishness and protection are my own faults.”
“I am your accomplice.”
“Now, I am a sinner just like you.”
Mo Wang opened her mouth in surprise. After a long pause, she smiled faintly. “Then you are free, Ms. Accomplice.”
She walked to the door, pressed a few buttons, and then placed Mo Li’s finger on the scanner.
The fingerprint system registered, and the door swung open with a click.
“Starting tomorrow, you can do as you please, but remember to come back at night, and don’t get caught by the police, my accomplice.”
…
Although she was free, Mo Li didn’t have much to do. Every day, she just went shopping, worked out, and occasionally brought back some pretty but not necessarily practical little trinkets for Mo Wang.
On one such ordinary morning, Mo Li woke up and opened her eyes, only to find that the alarm clock had been turned off at some point.
And Mo Wang, who should have been at work at this hour, was leaning back in a chair, brushing her teeth while scrolling through her phone.
“Want to go on a vacation to Iceland together?”
Seeing that Mo Li was awake, she said casually, “Seems like we might see the northern lights.”
“What about the company?”
Mo Li, still half-asleep, thought Mo Wang was just making a casual remark.
“I took annual leave. Father would be thrilled to have me away from the company. He approved half a month for me.”
“So, are you going? I’m about to book the tickets.”
A vacation, just the two of them, abroad, in Iceland.
These words swirled and echoed in Mo Li’s mind. She rolled over and sprang out of bed: “Go, go, go! When’s the flight? I’ll pack my things.”
Mo Wang put away his phone with satisfaction.
“In two hours.”
