Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 20
Mo Li was both annoyed and amused. She withdrew her hand from Mo Wang’s shoulder, plucked the business card from Mo Wang’s embrace, and tossed it into the trash.
Mo Wang’s tone carried a hint of sourness: “Even as a kept Alpha, you’re out here flirting with others. So much for Alpha integrity.”
“If you’re going to say that, then I won’t transfer you the money later,” Mo Li retorted, fully embracing the title of a freeloading Alpha.
Unexpectedly, the usually thrifty Miss Mo Wang, a veritable Scrooge, nodded in agreement: “If I’m keeping you, then you have to do everything I say. No going out, I’ll buy you clothes every day, and you’ll wear them just for me.”
Mo Li imagined the scenario and found it rather appealing.
Side by side, the two returned to the car.
Mo Wang’s jealousy flared up again. She took out her phone and began tapping away.
She imitated Shen Luoqi’s coquettish, spoiled tone, making Mo Li’s skin crawl.
“Big sister, can I have your contact info?”
Mo Li’s fingers rested on the steering wheel as she shook her head helplessly. But when she glanced over, she saw a rare liveliness in Mo Wang’s eyes, like a clever white fox suddenly infused with spirit.
Defeated, Mo Li laughed and pleaded, “Enough, alright? I already threw her card away. Besides, we already have each other’s contact info.”
Mo Wang crossed her arms, squinting one eye and keeping the other open in mock suspicion.
“Not anymore.”
Mo Li sensed trouble.
She rummaged through her bag, grabbed her phone, opened their recent chat, and sent a comma.
A glaring red exclamation mark followed the message.
Mo Wang had enabled friend verification “You are not yet friends…”
Fine, if she wanted to play games.
Mo Li put her phone away and reminisced aloud, “No adding back. I’m taken, by someone who came to me willingly, and who knows me inside out, like family.”
Mo Wang nodded, tapped her screen to re-add Mo Li, and declared with satisfaction, “Alright, you pass.”
By the time they returned to the apartment with a car full of groceries, evening had fallen. Mo Wang skillfully tossed a salad with the fresh ingredients and pan-fried some scallion eggs. They made do with this simple dinner.
Later, when Mo Li opened her laptop to discuss the new district business with Luo Licheng:
Mo Li: Send me another electronic copy of the contract. Let’s meet tomorrow to discuss.
Instead of replying via text, Luo Licheng called.
Mo Li answered.
His voice sounded weary and frustrated: “It’s over. My father thinks my development plans in the new district are undermining Luo Liming. He’s suddenly revoking my agency there.”
Mo Li had already been hesitant about the Luo family’s current situation, so she wasn’t too upset about the deal falling through.
After offering a few words of comfort, she prepared to hang up.
But Luo Licheng suddenly lowered his voice.
“Mo Li, who were you with today? I used Luo Liming’s name for the new district project, it shouldn’t have been exposed so abruptly.”
On her end, Mo Li paused briefly: “Just me.”
Yet her mind flashed to Mo Wang suddenly entering and accompanying her out.
Luo Licheng, unusually agitated, raised his voice: “Then why didn’t you respond to me directly? Even a verbal agreement would have made my father wary of the Mo family and approved the cooperation.”
He let out a long sigh: “Sorry, I lost my temper. That wasn’t my intention.”
“But Miss Mo Li, someone is definitely sabotaging this deal. I handled everything personally, there were no loopholes. You’d better check your own people.”
Luo Licheng ended the call.
Mo Li held her phone, a bitter smile on her face.
Why would she need to investigate? Wasn’t the identity of the real culprit obvious at a glance?
However, Mo Wang had warned her not to get involved in the Luo family’s mess recently, so she had her reasons for acting this way.
The faint sound of running water came from the bathroom next door. Mo Li irritably tugged at the collar of her pajamas. Though Mo Wang seemed to have explained many things, she always avoided answering the crucial questions.
Why stay away from the Luo family, who showed interest in cooperation, yet go so far as to get injured to exchange favors with the Lin family?
Why prevent me from collaborating with Luo Licheng, while secretly scheming with Luo Liming yourself?
And how did Mo Wang even find out about this?
Mo Li’s gaze fell on the laptop. The camera above the screen resembled a brown pupil, intently capturing every corner of the room.
She reached out and closed the laptop but did nothing further.
If Mo Wang wanted to watch, then so be it.
Mo Li fetched a large towel and a hairdryer, placing them on the chair outside the bathroom door.
“Will your wound get wet? Remember to dry your hair after washing to avoid catching a cold.”
The sound of water stopped. Mo Wang’s silhouette was cast on the frosted glass of the bathroom, the steam and water trails making it alternately clear and blurred, a hazy outline.
“It won’t. I know,” Mo Li heard her reply one by one.
Before Mo Li could step away, a hand brushed away the steam, pale, with distinct knuckles. Mo Wang stood by the door and softly invited, “Want to join me for a bath?”
The porcelain-white, alluring skin drew Mo Li’s gaze. She reached out, her hand meeting Mo Wang’s through the door.
But her mind was weighed down with countless thoughts, leaving her in no mood.
“Not today. Your injury just healed,” she gently declined.
Mo Wang said nothing. Her hand quietly withdrew from the door, and the sound of water resumed with a splash. Steam spread once more, veiling a glimpse of spring.
Although Mo Li’s home had a guest room prepared, when she finished her bath, she found Mo Wang curled up in her bed, holding her phone, pinching and spreading two fingers on the screen as if continuously zooming in on an image.
Without a word, they tacitly ignored the guest room and naturally settled under the same blanket.
Mo Li turned off the bedroom light, leaving only a dim bedside lamp. She raised her hand and covered Mo Wang’s eyes.
“Looking at your phone while lying on your side can cause dry eyes and strabismus. The screen is too small. If you need, I can lend you my computer.”
Mo Wang turned off her phone, held Mo Li’s hand in place over her eyes, and suddenly began to explain.
“Luo Liming of the Luo family is no fool. I once received kindness from his mother, Madam Li. That woman would never raise a useless son. Whatever his purpose for returning, the Luo family is bound to be thrown into turmoil.”
“So, you interfered with my collaboration with Luo Licheng?”
Mo Li felt a slight easing in her heart, like clouds parting to reveal the sun. She turned over, removing her hand from Mo Wang’s eyes, and wondered with a hint of hope:
Does this mean I hold some weight in Mo Wang’s heart?
Under the refracted light, Mo Wang’s light brown eyes were transparent and candid like glass. She sighed, “Yes, because you’re too stubborn to listen to advice.”
“Withdraw the investment. Even if it means a fight to the death, Luo Licheng and those in the Luo family are far from good people.”
After saying this, she turned over, her back to Mo Li, as if she had said all she needed to.
Mo Li pondered briefly.
“I can’t decide this entirely on my own. It needs to be voted on at the shareholders’ meeting and approved by the board of directors.”
Muffled by the quilt, Mo Wang’s voice sounded a bit stifled.
“By the time those old fogies make a decision, it’ll be too late to do anything.”
She rolled over again and said, “Withdraw all investments from the parts of the project you can decide on. If anyone puts pressure on you, hold your ground for now.”
Mo Wang reached out and patted Mo Li’s shoulder, her tone reassuring. “Don’t worry. If the sky falls, the sugar daddy will hold it up. What a soft-rice alpha.”
