Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 18
Mo Li opened the car door for her. The moment Mo Wang stepped into the vehicle, their eyes met, and Mo Li flashed a triumphant smile.
“Can’t be helped, guess I’m just a really good person.”
This time, the car sped like the wind, and within a quarter of an hour, it came to a smooth stop outside Mo Li’s apartment building.
Mo Li got out, pulled out her phone, and added two thousand to Secretary Su’s bonus for the month. Just then, a work call came in, so she told Mo Wang to go upstairs first.
Noticing Mo Li wasn’t following, Mo Wang reached for the door lock, hesitated for a moment, then entered the passcode 54250 into the keypad.
Beep-beep… The door swung open.
She was a bit surprised but didn’t linger, stepping straight into the apartment.
Looking around, even though she’d been gone for a full week, the nest of pillows she’d built during her previous heat was still there, completely intact.
Meanwhile, the bedroom had a new set of bedding, slippers, and toiletries, still sealed and untouched, as if waiting for someone’s arrival.
Mo Wang let out a soft laugh, but then, as if remembering something, the corners of her mouth drooped slightly, revealing a silent, hesitant expression.
In the end, she turned and entered the bedroom, gently opening Mo Li’s laptop and typing in Mo Li’s birthday.
The screen unlocked successfully, no one understood Mo Li better than she did.
Mo Wang inserted a USB drive and implanted a surveillance file.
The computer screen’s glow reflected in her pupils, a faint, eerie blue. Mo Wang murmured to herself, guilt mingled with obsession: “The Lin family will protect you. Once I get everything I deserve, you can love or hate me as you please.”
…
Mo Li returned upstairs, greeted by the aroma of coffee. Mo Wang was already settled cross-legged in the little nest she’d built, looking like a small, compact bundle from a distance.
As Mo Li approached, she noticed Mo Wang’s calm expression as she held a steaming cup of latte.
Mo Li hated bitterness, but in that moment, surrounded by the rich scent, she felt a strong urge to taste the coffee in Mo Wang’s hand.
Without a second thought, she reached out to take the cup from Mo Wang.
They’d already kissed, what was sharing a drink?
But Mo Wang shifted away, avoiding her. Mo Li sensed the subtle resistance and a hint of low spirits. Just as she was about to ask, Mo Wang’s expression returned to normal, and she bantered with Mo Li as usual.
“Kids should stick to sweet milk.”
Mo Li turned and, sure enough, found a cup of warm milk on the coffee table.
She took a sip, the sweetness was just right.
A bit surprised by Mo Wang’s sudden thoughtfulness, Mo Li carried the cup back to her bedroom, an unconscious smile playing on her lips.
She hadn’t slept much all night, but work was always waiting. Mo Li had to muster her energy.
Opening her laptop, she checked her email and work messages, her gaze sharpening.
Last night, the person in charge of the Lin family’s new district project had suddenly changed their attitude and handed her a proposal for the sale and leasing of entertainment venues in the new area.
This was probably the favor Lin Qianying had mentioned repaying.
Mo Li frowned. Though the Lin family was a headache right now, how could she cooperate with the lunatic who had hurt Mo Wang?
Just then, a message notification flashed on the screen.
It was from Luo Licheng.
Luo Licheng: Regarding the sale of the entertainment building in the North New District, I can have some say. If you’re planning to take it on, we can sign based on our previous contract.
Mo Li: What about Luo Liming?
Luo Licheng: No need to involve him.
Mo Li still hesitated. Mo Wang had indeed advised her to reduce contact with the Luo family and even suggested withdrawing all investments. However, given the close personal ties between the Mo and Luo families, a clean break without damaging the relationship was impossible.
Moreover, the Luo family’s business spanned a wide range of industries. If she offended them completely, the entire Mo Corporation might face significant turmoil.
Mo Li held only 17% of the shares in Mo Corporation. One wrong move, and even the smaller shareholders could join forces to remove her from her position at the shareholders’ meeting.
After much deliberation, Mo Li finally typed a message in the chatbox, intending to invite Luo Licheng to discuss the matter over dinner.
After all, to be honest, when it came to business matters, she couldn’t fully trust Mo Wang’s judgment.
Mo Li: “Bring the contract tonight. Let’s sign it in person.”
Before she could hit send, the door creaked open.
Mo Li turned at the sound.
It was Mo Wang, leaning lightly against the doorframe, looking into the room.
Mo Li suddenly felt a pang of guilt and closed her laptop.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m hungry.” Mo Wang seemed completely uninterested in her computer, like a cat meowing at its owner with an empty food bowl. “Your fridge only has drinks, and the only ingredient left is plain rice. Also, all my clothes are at home. I need to buy new ones.”
Mo Li checked the time, it was already noon. Mo Wang was still a patient and couldn’t go hungry.
Not daring to delay, she took Mo Wang to the nearest restaurant.
Mo Li ordered sukiyaki, fatty beef, a vegetable platter, sashimi, and a bowl of rice topped with fish roe.
When the dishes arrived, they looked vibrant and abundant, covering half the table. The sukiyaki pot bubbled, releasing a savory aroma. A large slice of marbled beef was dropped in, swirled twice, and then fished out, splattering broth.
Mo Wang stuffed the meat into her mouth, it was warm and melted on her tongue.
Satisfied, she said, “Taking care of a patient is exhausting, and I still have to work. Of course, I need to eat well.”
Across the table, Mo Wang stared at her own bowl of plain congee and boiled vegetables, then glared at Mo Li.
“Patients need to eat light.”
Mo Li buried her face in her rice bowl, but out of the corner of her eye, she caught Mo Wang sneaking a large slice of beef from the pot, dipping a piece of sashimi to cook it secretly, and then placing it in her own bowl.
Mo Li’s lips curved into a smile.
Sure enough, in the midst of this chaotic eating style, Mo Wang’s usually small appetite vanished. Not only did she finish an entire bowl of congee, but she also managed to sneak quite a few slices of meat and vegetables.
Mo Li pulled the now full-bellied Mo Wang to her feet. “Let’s go buy some ingredients and cook at home.”
With their stomachs full and plenty of time left, Mo Li drove directly to the largest department store in the city center.
As soon as she rolled down the window, the noise rushed in. The entrance was packed with people, oversized pink balloons floated in the air, and a heart-shaped feather archway stood tall. Colorful artificial petals drifted in the wind, accompanied by melodious music.
After finally finding a parking spot, the two had just stepped out of the car when a store employee in uniform approached.
Her face beamed with enthusiasm as she fluently delivered her promotional pitch.
“Hello, here’s our Qixi Festival promotional flyer. Appliances, clothing, and food are all on sale.”
Mo Wang took the flyer, and the promoter continued, “Also, on Qixi Festival day, couples only need to kiss under that archway and walk through hand in hand to receive a voucher worth 200 yuan.”
Following the direction of her pointed finger, sure enough, pairs of lovers shared brief kisses before linking arms and passing through the archway.
Mo Li froze for a moment, but Mo Wang had already grabbed her arm and pulled her forward.
Being public figures to some extent, both wore sunglasses and face masks. Mo Li felt a bit nervous as she was dragged along, asking while walking, “What if we’re recognized?”
Mo Wang seemed completely unfazed. She reached up and removed Mo Li’s sunglasses. “Then we just won’t take off the masks.”
She stopped in front of the arch, stood properly, then took off her own sunglasses as well. Her eyes were clear and gentle, peach-blossom-like and full of affection.
Mo Li wrapped an arm around her shoulders, closed her eyes, leaned down, and slowly drew closer.
But halfway there, her lips met resistance. She opened her eyes to find Mo Wang pressing a finger against her lips.
Feeling a bit disappointed and awkward, Mo Li pulled back slightly. “I guess it’s better not to do this in public after all…”
Mo Wang shook her head, pressed down on Mo Li’s shoulders, and chided softly, “You’re too tall.”
Forced to bend her knees slightly under the pressure, Mo Li watched as Mo Wang leaned in closer. “It should be me who initiates it…”
She closed her eyes, her voice fading into the ambiguous atmosphere between them. Their noses touched, and the fabric of their masks rubbed against each other, yet through the material, they could still make out the shape of each other’s lips.
It might have been just a second, or perhaps a full minute, Mo Li had already lost all sense of time.
When they finally parted, she was immensely grateful for her mask; otherwise, her flushed state would surely have been noticed.
She reached up and secretly pressed a hand to her cheek.
Her fingers felt cool, but her cheeks were burning hot.
