Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 17
Mo Li was utterly bewildered. “What benefit? What advantage? A bullet?”
Mo Wang smirked triumphantly. “Mom thought I had taken care of the person and already transferred the remaining ten million to me.”
“Besides, I also did the Lin family a favor through you. Maybe Lin Qianying will spare me in the future, considering your face?”
During their last meeting, Lin Qianying had shed the selfish, haughty princess attitude from her teenage years and turned into a decisive madwoman. Mo Li became even more convinced that no one in the Lin family was normal.
Half-believing, she pressed further, “What about Dad?”
After narrowly escaping death once, Mo’s father had developed a desire to enjoy life and grew disgusted with his wife’s weak yet nitpicking personality. He began indulging himself in pleasure-seeking, immersed in sensual pleasures.
Those who have tasted sweetness become reluctant to let go. Mo Li didn’t believe her father would show any restraint.
“Actually, since the twenty million is already in hand, I could have just ignored it,” Mo Wang said with a sly glint in her eyes. “But to eliminate future troubles, I had the hospital issue him a medical report claiming he has that kind of disease. That should keep him in check for a while.”
After saying this, Mo Wang stared at the pancake in her hand, lost in thought. “Mentioning that suddenly makes me lose my appetite.”
She handed the bag to Mo Li. Despite having nibbled on it for so long, more than half of the pancake remained, marked by a neat row of tiny teeth imprints.
“Will you help me finish it?”
Mo Li fell silent for a moment, then looked up and retorted, “Ten thousand yuan apiece, and you really won’t eat it?”
Mo Wang’s hand trembled, and she took it back. “The price went up?”
Mo Li sighed and explained, “No, it was originally thirty yuan each. I sent Secretary Su to buy it, and she queued for two hours. Just as she reached the front, they sold out.”
“I had no choice but to have her negotiate with the kitchen and raise the price to ten thousand per pancake.”
Mo Wang silently glanced at the pancake in her hand. The gilded “Qing Jia Ao” logo on the bag was particularly glaring. She carefully took a small bite. “This mouthful must be worth a hundred, right?”
This time, she chewed slowly and deliberately.
“What a waste. My car only cost a hundred and twenty thousand.”
Mo Li found it somewhat amusing to watch someone who had just received twenty million being so frugal.
“Well, you’ve already eaten the equivalent of an engine. Your appetite is impressive.”
After finishing the pancake, Mo Wang gazed reluctantly at the packaging and muttered, “They already came to change the dressing earlier. I can be discharged tomorrow.”
Sensing Mo Li’s doubtful look, Mo Wang chuckled briefly. “You should still trust the capabilities of Qiang Wei Pharmaceuticals. The treatment device that was previously only usable on the face has now been upgraded for full-body application. We’re preparing to launch it in major hospitals.”
As she spoke, she casually lifted the fabric on the side of her abdomen. Beneath the transparent, breathable bandage, a gruesome, swollen scar was starkly visible, and even the sutures from the previous night had been removed.
“It won’t get inflamed or reopen, but the scar treatment isn’t as refined and perfect as the facial therapy device.”
“Unacceptable.”
Seeing the horrifying wound on her snow-white skin, Mo Li found it unbearable. Without a second thought, she firmly refused, “How careless are you going to be with your own body?”
Mo Wang shrugged, her indifferent attitude infuriating.
“Actually, it just looks scary. The bullet only grazed me, it’s essentially a flesh wound. Lin Qianying has some restraint; she wouldn’t do anything too severe to me.”
Someone with true restraint would never fire a gun so casually.
Mo Li found Lin Qianying’s arrogant face increasingly detestable. She subtly cracked her knuckles, unable to agree: “Why is she targeting you like this?”
“Ah, that.” Mo Wang replied with indifference. “Because she’s a Beta who’s been pretending to be an Omega for nearly ten years.”
“It seems she desperately wants to participate in an arranged marriage as an Omega, she must be green with envy.”
While shocked, Mo Li furrowed her brows and noticed something amiss. The most distinct physiological trait distinguishing Omegas and Alphas were their pheromones. After their differentiation period, they would always carry a faint, unique scent of pheromones.
However, Betas neither produced pheromones nor could they detect others’ pheromones. Whenever the topic of pheromones came up, they invariably revealed inconsistencies.
Moreover, most counterfeit pheromones on the market were externally applied, strong in scent but quick to fade, clumsy and inferior, making them easy to identify.
Yet the subtle gardenia fragrance lingering around Lin Qianying was constant, not overpowering, just like that of a typical Omega.
Mo Wang guessed her thoughts: “Lin Qianying’s synthetic pheromones were developed and produced by Qiang Wei Pharmaceuticals. As for the gland pump that carries them, Bai Wu asked me to customize it for her to wear close to her skin. It continuously releases pheromones and can even simulate the pheromone surge during a heat cycle.”
“But those who master technology can be mastered in return.”
She snapped her fingers, her eyes filled with unwavering confidence.
“I have the authority to control the gland remotely, that’s one reason Lin Qianying doesn’t dare mess with me.”
“If I want, I can make her release both a pheromone surge and the stench of pheromone waste simultaneously.”
Mo Li imagined the suffocating environment of being surrounded by intense fragrance and foul odor. If such a mishap occurred in public, it would become a lifelong joke.
Mo Wang calmly sat up, showing no trace of the weakness she had displayed earlier when she needed to be fed.
“Are you done asking? I’m going home.”
She removed the beaded bracelet from Mo Li’s hand, tied up her hair, and reached for her coat.
Mo Li still didn’t want her to leave the hospital so soon. She pulled out her phone and sent two messages to Secretary Su.
Outwardly, she said nothing, simply wrapping her own trench coat around Mo Wang as well. Grabbing the car keys, she said briefly, “I’ll drive you.”
Mo Wang nodded. Though her steps were steady, her pace remained somewhat slow.
Mo Li supported her from behind, helped her into the car, and drove off slowly toward the address Mo Wang provided.
It was rush hour. Mo Li deliberately took the most congested route, even detouring onto the overpass. She drove sluggishly the entire way, with drivers behind her honking furiously. As they overtook her, some even took both hands off the wheel to flip her off with both middle fingers.
A ten-kilometer journey took her two hours to complete.
Having endured insults the whole way, Mo Wang shot her several displeased sidelong glances.
Their destination was a mid-range residential complex in the city center. As a newly built community, it was clean, well-equipped, and though unremarkable, quite suitable for living.
Since they were driving Mo Wang’s Santana, Mo Wang transferred twenty yuan to Mo Li for a taxi fare, shooed her out of the car, and went upstairs by herself.
Mo Li didn’t mind. She leaned against the car and silently counted in her heart.
When she reached thirty, an infuriated, thunderous slam of a door interrupted her.
Mo Wang had already come back downstairs. She sneered coldly, but her eyes blazed with fury.
“I don’t know which lunatic blocked my door,” she hissed through gritted teeth. “I wonder if you’d let me stay at your place for a few days, Mo Li?”
