- Chapter 9 - Teacher-Certified Couple
Management, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management…
He recognized every one of these words individually, but why did they become completely unrecognizable once they were put together?
Help! Based on his current state, failing his finals was already a certainty.
Yan Mingyue looked as though he had lost all his vitality. With a soft “paji” sound, he slumped his head onto his book and asked Gu Yuebai in a muffled voice, “Gu Yuebai, what class is this?”
He had been so busy trying to please Gu Yuebai over the past two days that he had not even bothered to check the course schedule.
Gu Yuebai shot a sidelong glance at Yan Mingyue and lifted the book on the desk for him to see.
Corporate Strategic Management.
Great. The very first class was already this difficult! Was life trying to kill him?
Yan Mingyue sat up straight and spread the book out before him, preparing to face the stormy baptism of knowledge.
In the original novel, Gu Yuebai’s campus life was barely mentioned. Most of the descriptions focused on the love-hate entanglements between him, Lu Beichen, and various supporting characters. This left Yan Mingyue without a single advantage when it came to academics.
The professor teaching Strategic Management was named Li, a man in his fifties or sixties who looked quite kind and refined. However, the lecture took an unexpected turn.
“The student who looks like he wants to bite his book to death, please answer this question.”
An elderly yet humorous voice drifted down from the podium. Yan Mingyue noticed that the surroundings had suddenly gone quiet. Just as he looked up to see who was talented enough to want to bite a book to death, he realized everyone was looking at him.
Wait! So, the talented one was actually himself?
Under the gaze of the crowd, Yan Mingyue slowly stood up and stared blankly at the professor.
Seeing his expression, the professor knew this kid had definitely not been paying attention. He patiently repeated the question and added, “This is something you just learned last semester.”
Upon hearing this, Yan Mingyue’s expression twisted. My god, if he had actually studied this last semester, he would not be feeling this helpless!
When people are embarrassed, they tend to look very busy, and that was exactly his state. Yan Mingyue nervously fiddled with the hem of his shirt, occasionally looking down at Gu Yuebai and winking desperately to try to get an answer.
Gu Yuebai looked up at him with a faint smile. His thin lips moved silently as he mouthed three words.
“Beg me then.”
Yan Mingyue smiled. If Gu Yuebai thought he was a person with no backbone, then he was absolutely right! He really was not a man of principle!
“I beg you!” His expression was sincere as he looked at Gu Yuebai pleadingly.
Gu Yuebai raised a hand to hide the smile at the corner of his mouth. He took a pen and wrote the answer in his notebook, pushing it over toward Yan Mingyue.
The two of them thought their movements were very discreet, but the professor on the podium saw everything clearly. After Yan Mingyue finished answering the question, the professor smiled, adjusted his glasses, and looked at them both.
“You two, although I am old, I am not a fossil. However, it is a bit inappropriate to show your affection so openly in the middle of class.”
Teased in such a way, Gu Yuebai remained expressionless. He continued to maintain his image as a cold, top-tier student and did not bother to deny the professor’s words. Seeing that Gu Yuebai was not speaking up, Yan Mingyue could only wave his hands at the professor with a flushed face to show they were not a couple.
“Professor, we are not! We really are not!”
Heaven and earth be his witness, Yan Mingyue had been single for twenty years and had never even held a girl’s hand. How did he suddenly end up with a rumored boyfriend? How was he supposed to find a girlfriend in the future?
The students who had been feeling drowsy suddenly perked up. They looked at the red-faced Yan Mingyue and the composed Gu Yuebai, letting out bursts of good-natured laughter.
At the very least, Yan Mingyue shifted his focus back to the textbook. He began to listen to the lecture seriously, facing the baptism of knowledge head-on.
Gu Yuebai caught a glimpse of Yan Mingyue’s reddened cheeks out of the corner of his eye and revealed a playful smile. Yes, that was right. He had done it on purpose!
Jin Xi peeked back and happened to see the smile on Gu Yuebai’s lips. Startled, he hurriedly opened his phone to send a message: “Brother, you cannot be serious, right?”
Given Gu Yuebai’s understanding of Jin Xi, those few words were enough to prove that Jin Xi was overthinking things again.
Gu Yuebai quickly replied with two words: “I am not.” He then put down his phone and focused on the slides. He had already studied similar courses abroad, so looking at them now was merely a review.
Compared to Gu Yuebai’s ease, Yan Mingyue was much more entertaining. One moment he was holding his forehead with a bitter smile, and the next he was scratching his head like a frustrated monkey. In all his years, Gu Yuebai had never met someone like him, and he could not help but steal a few more glances.
“Argh! Just kill me! This is like the ten great tortures of the Qing Dynasty! I completely do not understand any of this!”
Yan Mingyue lay face down, muttering to himself. Every word was filled with confusion regarding the Business Administration major.
Hearing this, Gu Yuebai raised an eyebrow. The way Yan Mingyue knew absolutely nothing about Management did not look like someone who had already studied it for a year.
Unless…
