- Chapter 8 - Handing Gu Yuebai a Good Person Card
“Your Majesty!”
At seven o’clock the next morning, Yan Mingyue’s peculiar alarm clock ringtone had barely finished its first line before he lunged to shut it off with lightning speed. This returned a moment of peace to Dormitory 416. He then sat dazed on his bed, staring blankly at the patterns on his quilt as if he were trying to see flowers grow from the fabric.
Although his body was awake, his brain had not quite finished booting up. It was currently undergoing a forced restart.
Forced restart at ten percent.
Forced restart at fifty percent.
Forced restart at ninety-nine percent.
Forced restart failed!
Yan Mingyue let out a silent wail and flopped back onto the bed, lying as still as a corpse. Why did 8:00 AM classes even exist?
Despite his complaints, class was still mandatory. After all, it was far too easy for a university student to fail a course. Yan Mingyue buried his head in his pillow and rubbed his face. Hearing the rustling sounds of others getting up, he forced himself to climb out of his soft bed.
He scratched his messy chestnut hair and slid down the ladder in one smooth motion, landing steadily on the floor. As soon as he stood firm, however, he realized the sensation under his feet felt a bit strange.
“Yan Mingyue, did you do that on purpose? These are my brand new shoes! If you have a problem, take it out on me! Do not step on my beloved shoes!”
Jin Xi, wearing only one shoe, stood behind Yan Mingyue like a golden rooster on one leg. He looked at the shoe under Yan Mingyue’s foot in disbelief, his tone so resentful that he looked ready to stab Yan Mingyue on the spot.
“Sorry, sorry!” Yan Mingyue’s eyes were still a bit blurry. He glanced down at the new shoe he was trampling and silently stepped to the side.
Jin Xi snatched his shoe back and asked through gritted teeth, “You did that on purpose, did you not?”
Yan Mingyue shook his head with a dazed expression and said firmly, “I did not. I was not. Do not talk nonsense!”
He really had not done it on purpose! Who could have known that Jin Xi’s shoe would suddenly appear right under his bed?
Thus, early in the morning, these two “elementary school chickens” began pecking at each other again. Gu Yuebai, who had just finished washing up and stepped out of the bathroom, let out a helpless sigh. He looked exactly like a parent dealing with unruly children.
Yan Mingyue happened to glance over and saw Gu Yuebai. He gave a cold snort at Jin Xi, grabbed his toiletries, and headed into the bathroom. Seeing that Jin Xi was still wailing over his beloved shoe, Gu Yuebai walked over and gave him a light smack. “Stop howling. Are you a Husky?”
Having been struck, Jin Xi immediately fell silent. The expression of terminal grief vanished from his face instantly.
The original owner of this body studied Business Administration, a major worlds apart from what Yan Mingyue himself had studied. The thought of facing knowledge he had never learned made his vision go dark. Truly, being a “Zero” or a “Three” in a relationship was better than being bored to death by textbooks.
Considering that Gu Yuebai usually left the dormitory late and likely had not eaten, Yan Mingyue made a special trip to the cafeteria. He bought two custard buns and a cup of soy milk for him. Carrying his backpack and the breakfast, he rushed into the classroom at the very last second.
He scanned the room and immediately spotted the expressionless Gu Yuebai sitting in the back row. He made a beeline for the empty seat next to him, winking and gesturing before plopping down. With his chestnut hair and a bright smile that bordered on silly, Yan Mingyue was actually quite endearing, especially when his eyes were fixed earnestly on someone.
Several male and female students sitting nearby showed a flash of confusion when they saw Yan Mingyue. This quickly turned into disdain, and they lowered their heads to whisper among themselves.
“Is that Yan Mingyue? Why does he seem a bit different?”
“Forget it. He is probably just faking it again. Were we not all fooled by that face of his before? Damn, what a ‘dead gay’!”
“This is hilarious. Do you not know? The ‘White Moonlight’ of that CEO he liked has returned to the country! He was dumped! Maybe that handsome guy next to him is his new sugar baby.”
The voices of the group were not particularly loud, but they were not quiet either. They were just loud enough for Yan Mingyue and Gu Yuebai to hear clearly. Jin Xi, who was sitting among a group of girls, turned his head upon hearing the words “new sugar baby” and nearly doubled over with laughter.
Although the original owner was the one who had committed those past actions, being discussed like this was still quite awkward. Yan Mingyue stole an embarrassed glance at Gu Yuebai, who was eating breakfast with measured grace. He noticed that Gu Yuebai did not seem affected by the words at all; he simply continued with what he was doing.
Suddenly, a still-warm custard bun was held out in front of him. Gu Yuebai’s cool voice sounded in his ear: “I cannot finish this. Have one.” As he spoke, he placed the bun on the desk and picked up his soy milk to take a slow sip.
Suddenly finding himself the object of the “White Moonlight’s” concern, Yan Mingyue’s expression went blank for a moment before turning into an even more radiant smile.
Gu Yuebai was so kind! He made a decision right then. If Gu Yuebai ever wanted to be the “Top” in a relationship, he would do everything in his power to make it happen. Of course, if Gu Yuebai actually wanted to be the “Bottom,” then he would take back everything he just thought!
Yan Mingyue happily took a bite of the custard bun. He casually flipped open a textbook, only to be instantly stunned by the obscure and difficult knowledge inside.
