- Chapter 10 - The Sickness is Yours, but the Pain is Mine!
Yan Mingyue sat on his stool as if it were covered in thorns. He could not stay still for a second, shifting and squirming constantly, but he somehow managed to endure until the end of class.
The moment the signal for freedom blew, Yan Mingyue stood up impatiently, forgetting just how fragile a college student’s body can be. His vision suddenly went black, and a faint ringing echoed in his ears. In the next second, under the shocked gazes of everyone present, he pitched forward and crashed straight into the arms of an equally stunned Gu Yuebai.
When a 180cm male of average weight crashes into another guy without warning, it feels like a fifty-kilogram Husky charging at full speed. The impact was significant.
Gu Yuebai looked bewildered, but he instinctively wrapped his arms around Yan Mingyue’s waist, tightening his grip to prevent them both from tumbling to the floor.
“Sss!” “Sss!” “Sss!”
A chorus of sharp intakes of breath rose from the crowd. To an outsider, it might have sounded like they had stumbled into a den of snakes.
“Gu Yuebai,” Yan Mingyue muttered weakly, his head lolling onto Gu Yuebai’s shoulder. His voice was so faint he sounded as if he were about to breathe his last. However, anemia truly can be life-threatening, so he no longer cared about the strange or judgmental looks from his classmates. He clung to Gu Yuebai as if he were his only lifeline.
“Gu Yuebai, I think I am dying. Can you take me to the school clinic? Thank you! Love ya! Mwah!”
Having finished his piece, Yan Mingyue let out a soft groan, his head thudding heavily against Gu Yuebai’s shoulder as he passed out.
Gu Yuebai: “?” Gu Yuebai: “!!!!”
“Wait!” Yan Mingyue suddenly bolted upright like a corpse coming back to life, his sweaty hand gripping Gu Yuebai’s tightly. “You have to take me there. I feel like I can still be resuscitated. Ugh.”
With that final effort, he finally lost his strength and peacefully closed his eyes. This time, he was out cold and would not be waking up anytime soon.
“Holy crap!” Jin Xi performed a power slide, landing right next to the pair. He was about to start cursing when he saw Yan Mingyue’s pale face and tightly shut eyes. His words took a sharp turn into a panicked shriek. He had intended to ask Gu Yuebai what was wrong, but his inner thoughts slipped out: “Bro, you killed him!” His voice even cracked on the last word.
“Are you joking?”
With a life on the line, Gu Yuebai did not have time for anything else. He scooped Yan Mingyue up in a princess carry and headed for the clinic at a steady, rapid pace, leaving the stunned classmates behind to stare at each other in confusion.
After the residents of Dorm 416 left, whispers broke out in the classroom, most of them laced with malice toward Yan Mingyue.
By the time Yan Mingyue woke up again, the third period had already begun. He sat up, shaking his head to clear the grogginess, only to see Gu Yuebai sitting on a chair opposite him, propping his head up with one hand and watching him with a faint smile.
Seeing Gu Yuebai immediately reminded Yan Mingyue of the things he had said while clinging to his hand before passing out. He wished he could find a hole in the ground to crawl into. However, being naturally thick-skinned, he cleared his throat, greeted Gu Yuebai, and threw in a bit of random flattery: “Gu Yuebai, my dreams were full of you just now. I did not expect to see you the moment I opened my eyes. My luck is amazing! Hehe.”
The moment the words left his mouth, Yan Mingyue regretted it. Damn! This big mouth of mine!
Gu Yuebai did not respond to the flattery directly. Instead, he reached for a container on the side cabinet, opened it, and handed it over.
Yan Mingyue looked down to find a thermal flask filled to the brim with chicken soup. Various medicinal supplements floated on the surface. One look told him that drinking this would practically guarantee a nosebleed from the sheer potency. He looked at the flask, then back at the staring Gu Yuebai, and began to wonder if he had accidentally given birth while unconscious instead of just fainting.
Although the soup smelled and looked delicious, he genuinely disliked chicken soup; he only liked fried chicken.
Pushing the soup back toward Gu Yuebai, Yan Mingyue said, “I do not want to drink it. You should have it. You barely ate anything this morning; what if your stomach problems flare up? You know, the sickness is in your body, but the pain is in my heart!”
Gu Yuebai extended a single finger and gently pushed the soup back toward Yan Mingyue, mimicking his tone perfectly: “No, no, you should drink it. After all, the sickness is in your body, but the pain is in my heart?”
Ugh.
Forget it. I am done. This conversation is officially dead! Not even a miracle could save it now!
Yan Mingyue had no choice but to take the soup. Staring at the floating supplements, he closed his eyes, opened his mouth, and gulped down the entire container with the resolve of a martyr. He then let out a forced, boisterous laugh: “Hahahaha! Drinking a pot of hot chicken soup while sick is truly a deadly pleasure!”
“By the way,” Gu Yuebai’s expression shifted slightly as he recalled Yan Mingyue’s words before he fainted. Whatever he was thinking caused his face to turn various shades of pale and red. It was quite the colorful display.
He took back the empty flask. “Never mind, it is nothing. Get some rest.” Having said that, he hurried away with the flask as if a monster were chasing him.
“Hey, wait!”
Not long after Gu Yuebai left, Yan Mingyue suddenly felt a wave of heat in his nose. Immediately after, drop after drop of blood slid down, splashing onto the back of his hand.
“!!!!”
“Gu Yuebai! Screw you and your supplements!”
