- Chapter 4 - Piously Apologizing to the White Moonlight with Joined Palms
Yan Mingyue put down his phone, feeling a sudden chill down his spine as if someone were watching him. He made a feint, then unexpectedly whipped his head around, locking eyes with Gu Yuebai.
In the dim, ambiguous light, Gu Yuebai’s smile made him look like a grim reaper ready to claim Yan Mingyue’s soul at any moment.
“I… Gu… Gu Yuebai, I have something to tell you.” Perhaps because the room was so quiet, Yan Mingyue could clearly hear Gu Yuebai’s breathing. He swallowed hard, his tone sincere. “Gu Yuebai, I have done many terrible things to you. I am sorry! I must apologize to you today!”
Gu Yuebai smiled and leaned against the wall casually, though his voice remained unreadable. “Oh? Tell me what you have done, and then I will consider whether to forgive you.”
Upon hearing this, Yan Mingyue stood up as if a teacher had called his name. He piously joined his palms, bowing as he apologized to Gu Yuebai while muttering a long list of the rumors the original owner had spread over the years.
Somehow, the scene felt a bit like a funeral service. It felt as if he could send a perfectly living Gu Yuebai to the afterlife at any second.
Seemingly feeling that his confession lacked enough atmosphere, he secretly reached behind his back, grabbed his phone from the desk, and played a song he had recently taken a liking to.
With crystal-clear tears shimmering in his eyes, perfectly balanced on the verge of falling, Yan Mingyue said in a choked voice, “Gu Yuebai, I am sorry! I have truly been a monster!”
Right then, the song reached its climax.
The past flows in your eyes, Forgetting while piecing it back together, As I piously join my hands…
For some reason, Gu Yuebai really wanted to laugh. He covered his eyes with his right hand and gritted his teeth, his shoulders shaking as he struggled to suppress his amusement.
Hearing the movement, Yan Mingyue looked up, assuming Gu Yuebai was moved to tears by his sincere confession. He nodded in satisfaction. In his own BGM, no one could defeat him.
Looking at Yan Mingyue, Gu Yuebai suddenly wanted to know how the boy planned to compensate him. He took a deep breath, nodded, and signaled for Yan Mingyue to continue.
Yan Mingyue was the type to take an inch and ask for a mile. Seeing Gu Yuebai actively engaging with him, he grinned, thinking that Gu Yuebai was indeed as kind-hearted as the book described.
Aha! In that case, I am going to push my luck!
Under Gu Yuebai’s puzzled gaze, Yan Mingyue scrambled up the ladder and onto Gu Yuebai’s bed. He knelt on one knee and pressed one hand against the wall, domineeringly performing a “wall-slam” on the CEO’s White Moonlight.
Despite the aggressive posture, his eyes looked like those of a kitten terrified of being abandoned.
In a pitiful, cautious tone, Yan Mingyue said, “Gu Yuebai, I must apologize! I know I should not have done those things, and I know they caused you a lot of trouble. I will delete everything from the forum later. For anything else, I will do whatever you want! You are a big-hearted person, so please do not lower yourself to my level!”
He thought for a moment and then added, “Of course, giving you money is out! You know, I have been poor since I was a kid.”
Gu Yuebai was practically driven to laughter by his sheer audacity. In all his years, he had never met someone so shamelessly bold. He felt he would be doing himself a disservice if he did not tease him.
He chuckled, reached out to wrap an arm around Yan Mingyue’s waist, and said in a flirtatious tone, “I do not need money. As you know, my family has been very wealthy since I was a child. However, I quite like you as a person. How about…”
Yan Mingyue’s mind exploded into a blank white space. Terrified, he kept swallowing and tried frantically to break free from the embrace. He even forgot to put on his usual cutesy voice. “Bro! Brother! I… I think our current relationship is getting a bit too ambiguous!”
Afraid that Gu Yuebai might go further, Yan Mingyue performed a clumsy set of military boxing moves in front of him to intimidate this gay man.
See these fists? I am not made of clay! Think twice before you touch me!
Yet, the more he acted this way, the more Gu Yuebai wanted to tease him. He watched Yan Mingyue’s panicked expression with great interest. “Ambiguous? I think it is just right.”
Yan Mingyue’s terrified gaze met Gu Yuebai’s smiling eyes, and he instantly stopped struggling. Fine, he finally realized that Gu Yuebai was just messing with him. If he looked closely, he could see that the man’s eyes were clear and full of obvious amusement.
Wait, brother, are you treating me like a dog?
After finishing his fun, Gu Yuebai released his hold on Yan Mingyue’s waist. “I accept your apology. As for the other things you mentioned, I do not need them.”
Not needed? How can that be?
Yan Mingyue hated owing people. Hearing Gu Yuebai say he did not need repayment made him entirely unwilling to let it go. His hands moved faster than his brain; he grabbed Gu Yuebai’s wrist and said anxiously, “Since I did those things, I should take responsibility for you!”
Gu Yuebai refused. “No, no, really, there is no need!”
The two of them went back and forth, pulling and pushing in a confusing manner.
Jin Xi, who had just returned from buying food, saw Gu Yuebai and Yan Mingyue together on the same bed. The things in his hands hit the floor with a loud thud.
Both of them looked toward the sound at the same time. Jin Xi stood there looking like a wronged little wife betrayed by a scoundrel, looking as though he might shatter at any moment.
In a tragic tone, Jin Xi said, “White! Gu Yuebai! Cousin! Who is this person? Why can he be on your bed when I cannot even touch it? What happened to your germaphobia? This is truly heartbreaking!”
Even though he knew Jin Xi was acting, Yan Mingyue still felt the pressure, as if something really were going on between him and Gu Yuebai.
Yan Mingyue said awkwardly, “Maybe you should give him a hug. I feel like he is about to break.”
A teasing smile played on Gu Yuebai’s lips. “Are you sure you want me to tell him the real reason I have germaphobia regarding him?”
In truth, Gu Yuebai was not a germaphobe. However, Jin Xi had been very messy as a child and often wet his pants. After seeing that, Gu Yuebai refused to let Jin Xi sleep in the same bed, a habit he had kept to this day.
Jin Xi’s voice faltered. He gave a sheepish laugh and placed the food on Gu Yuebai’s desk to appease him. “Brother, I put the food here. Remember to eat. Love, Xi.” He blew them a kiss and hurriedly left the dorm, likely heading out to “explore the campus” again—or more likely, to go watch more drama elsewhere.
Gu Yuebai looked at Yan Mingyue and smiled. “Are you staying up here because you want me to feed you?”
Yuck. Yan Mingyue imagined the scene and felt goosebumps. As he climbed down, he said to Gu Yuebai, “Gu Yuebai, I am definitely going to compensate you! Just you wait!”
In a moment of impulsive speech, Yan Mingyue did not realize that this “compensation” would eventually forge a bond of “socialist brotherhood” with Gu Yuebai.
