- Chapter 3 - Severe Guilt and the Urge to Kowtow
Yan Mingyue kept his head down, pretending to organize his clothes, but his eyes could not help stealing glances at Gu Yuebai. The man was sitting in his chair, his leg clearly injured and immobile.
Jin Xi and Lu Renjia, whose beds were opposite each other near the door, were busy tidying their things.
Gu Yuebai had never been this disheveled in front of others. He sat alone, fuming in silence. His fingers tapped a rhythmic, dull beat on the desk. To Yan Mingyue, each tap felt like a blade hanging over his head.
Although Yan Mingyue was generally thick-skinned and a bit slow to react, Gu Yuebai’s gaze was so intense that his long-lost conscience finally flickered with a hint of guilt.
After all, Gu Yuebai’s leg was injured because of him.
Furthermore, he knew the original owner had done many terrible things. His heart was under such severe condemnation that he felt the urge to run to Gu Yuebai’s feet and kowtow twice to beg for forgiveness.
With this in mind, Yan Mingyue put down his things and cautiously climbed down from his bunk, hesitating as he approached Gu Yuebai.
“Gu… Gu Yuebai…”
Because of his guilt, Yan Mingyue’s voice was as quiet as a mosquito’s buzz, yet Gu Yuebai still heard him.
Gu Yuebai’s icy gaze landed on Yan Mingyue’s swollen lips. His expression suggested he wanted to slice those lips right off.
The words Yan Mingyue was about to say were immediately frightened back into his throat by that look. He swallowed hard and retreated.
Seriously, what kind of “upped” character is this fierce? And that height? Even Lu Beichen isn’t as tall as him!
Of course, Yan Mingyue did not dare to say any of this out loud. He was, quite simply, a coward at heart.
“Heh.”
As soon as he climbed back onto his bed, he heard Gu Yuebai’s cold, mocking laugh. It seemed to ridicule his lack of courage.
Back turned to him, Yan Mingyue gritted his teeth and thought, Fine, let him laugh now. He won’t be laughing later! Hilarious, really. I didn’t actually want to talk to you anyway! Has anyone ever told you how pretentious you are?
Below, Gu Yuebai’s phone buzzed. He picked it up from the desk and saw a message from Jin Xi. Even through text, the tone was unmistakably mischievous.
A Sister Jin from Heaven: White-ge, do you want me to handle him for you? (Attached: A meme of a delicate girl pulling a willow tree out by its roots).
Gu Yuebai looked up and met Jin Xi’s eyes. Jin Xi winked, made a throat-slitting gesture, and pointed at Yan Mingyue’s back.
How exactly could Jin Xi “handle” him? At most, he would just sit there fuming silently to make Yan Mingyue guess what was wrong.
Gu Yuebai narrowed his eyes. His entire demeanor was lazy as he slumped in his chair, no longer bothering to maintain his “aloof deity” image.
