- Chapter 2 - At Most Six Months to Live
But rather a wisp of a wandering soul, its ethereal form shimmering with a layer of purple-golden aura.
From the moment she woke up, this man had been in the room, watching the scene unfold for quite some time.
“You can see me?”
The man seemed surprised.
Yun Mojiu lay on her back, her expression relaxed.
“Not only can I see you, but I also know you’ve been cursed with a Soul-Severing Hex. At first, your soul would only leave your body briefly just a few seconds. But over time, the duration of these separations increases, and as the symptoms worsen, your physical body will suffer severe consequences. Given your current state, I’d guess your legs are already paralyzed.”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Junhe’s thick brows suddenly furrowed.
Because Yun Mojiu had hit the nail on the head!
“Moreover, the person who cursed you not only wants you to suffer a torturous death but also seeks to steal your fortune.
So, on top of the Soul-Severing Hex, they’ve also set up a Fortune-Transferring Array. The two reinforce each other, amplifying the effects.
Every time your soul leaves your body, a portion of your purple-golden aura is transferred to the one who cursed you.
Once that aura is completely drained, you won’t be long for this world.
However, you’ve had the help of a benefactor, which is why your aura hasn’t been significantly depleted yet.
But that doesn’t stop the hex from taking effect.
By rough estimate, you have at most six months left to live.”
Xiao Junhe narrowed his eyes.
Not only had this woman echoed the words of Master Yi Kong almost verbatim, but she had even provided more details.
Who exactly was she?!
“Since you can identify the curse afflicting me, do you have a way to break it?”
Though hopeful, Xiao Junhe kept his expression neutral.
Even someone as formidable as Master Yi Kong, a revered master of the arcane arts, had been unable to fully dispel the curse and array plaguing him.
Over the years, he had sought out countless experts and mystics, but the results had always been disappointing.
Though this woman had accurately diagnosed his condition, she looked far too young and beautiful, he didn’t dare place too much hope in her.
“There is a way, but…”
“But what?”
“But I can’t fully restore you yet, only alleviate the symptoms. After treatment, your soul may still occasionally leave your body, but the duration will gradually shorten. Your body will no longer be affected, and your legs will regain their strength.”
She had tested it earlier, after being reborn into this life, her spiritual power had diminished.
And the curse and array on this man were exceptionally potent. Unless she regained the peak strength of her past life, she wouldn’t dare attempt a full dispelling.
Otherwise, there was a fifty percent chance she’d fail to save him and suffer backlash herself.
Since he was neither family nor friend, she saw no reason to take such a risk.
At her words, Xiao Junhe’s hands clenched involuntarily.
Could he really stand again?!
His lifeless heart felt as though a small stone had been tossed into still waters, sending ripples across the surface.
“However, this method isn’t a permanent fix. You’ll need to come to me every week for renewed array work and curse suppression until I can fully dismantle the hex and the array.”
“That’s already more than enough.”
Xiao Junhe was grateful.
For so long, his condition had deteriorated with no solution in sight.
Now, someone was offering him relief, a chance to stand again, with the possibility of a full cure in the future. What more could he ask for?
“But everything has its cause and effect. My helping you is the cause, and as for the effect…”
“I understand. As long as Miss Yun takes action, the reward won’t be lacking. One million per week, and once you completely remove the curse from me, I’ll pay the remaining hundred million in full.”
Yun Mojiu: …Hmm, this guy knows the drill.
She leisurely stood up.
“What are you doing?” Xiao Junhe took two steps forward.
Yun Mojiu: “Naturally, I’m leaving the hospital. I don’t have any talisman paper on me. I need to buy some yellow paper and cinnabar to make talismans before I can help you.”
“But your hand…”
Xiao Junhe looked disapprovingly at the bandages wrapped around Yun Jiu’s wrist.
He had just heard that this woman had slit her wrists.
Though he was also puzzled as to why she would do something so drastic.
After all, based on their earlier conversation, she didn’t seem like the type to attempt suicide.
“Ah, it’s just a minor injury. It’s fine now.”
Yun Mojiu waved her hand dismissively.
When she woke up earlier, she had secretly channeled some spiritual energy into the wound.
By now, it was mostly healed.
Leaving the hospital wouldn’t be a problem.
After being discharged, Yun Mojiu was about to hail a taxi when she saw a woman around twenty-eight years old anxiously stopping passersby to ask questions.
“Excuse me, have you seen a little girl about four years old, wearing a pink princess dress? She’s very cute.”
The passerby shook their head, and the woman hurriedly stopped someone else to ask.
After receiving several negative responses, the woman grew increasingly frantic, her eyes reddening with unshed tears.
“You should call the police,” someone suggested.
The woman quickly pulled out her phone.
Observing the woman’s face, Yun Mojiu silently calculated with her fingers.
Then, her expression changed.
She strode quickly toward the woman.
“Do you have any personal belongings of your daughter?” she asked.
Qin Meng looked at her blankly. “Who are you?”
“Who I am isn’t important. What matters is that your daughter is in grave danger right now. If you want to save her, give me something of hers immediately. I can divine her location and take you to her.”
“Divine? You’re a fraud!”
As soon as Yun Mojiu finished speaking, an older woman nearby eyed her suspiciously and grabbed Qin Meng’s arm.
“Don’t listen to her. It’s safer to wait for the police.”
Then, she scolded Yun Mojiu, “You’re so young and look so clean-cut. How could you stoop to such deceitful tricks at your age?!”
Yun Mojiu frowned but didn’t want to waste time arguing.
The little girl was in critical danger, every minute wasted increased the risk.
She met Qin Meng’s gaze steadily. “Whether I’m a fraud or not, the truth will speak for itself. I won’t charge you anything. Just give me something personal of your daughter’s, and I’ll help you find her. You can stay here and wait for the police. Covering both bases gives you an extra layer of security, doesn’t it?”
Yun Mojiu wasn’t one to meddle in others’ affairs.
But her calculations revealed that this woman’s daughter shared a faint karmic connection with her.
Though she didn’t know where this connection came from, since she had encountered it, she couldn’t turn a blind eye.
Under Yun Mojiu’s composed gaze, Qin Meng felt an inexplicable urge to trust her.
She quickly pulled a handkerchief from her bag.
“Will this work?”
Yun Mojiu nodded. “It will.”
“Hey, girl, you’re really gonna trust her? What if she’s lying to you?” The auntie next to her eyed Yun Mojiu warily.
Qin Meng’s eyes shimmered with tears. “So, what if it’s a lie? I’ll take any chance I can get.”
Besides, the woman had said she wouldn’t take any money upfront, just a handkerchief. What could she possibly scam her for?
The police still hadn’t arrived, and even if they did, it would take time to investigate.
She couldn’t wait any longer!
