- Chapter 1 - This Marriage Must End in Divorce!
“Yun Mojiu, even if you weren’t dead right now, even if you were, this marriage must end in divorce!”
A cold, harsh voice abruptly rang out, snapping Yun Mojiu out of her thoughts.
She slowly swept her gaze over the indifferent man standing before her, her eyes trembling slightly.
She… had actually come back!
Looking around, she realized she was lying in a hospital room, her left wrist wrapped in bandages with a faint trace of crimson seeping through.
By the bed stood four people.
Her husband, Xie Jingling; his younger sister, Xie Tongtong; her mother-in-law, Zhao Mei; and… her husband’s unrequited love, Sun Xiaoxuan.
But she remembered, after slitting her wrist, she had died. Her soul had drifted into another world, possessing the body of a five-year-old beggar girl. Later, she was taken in by a white-bearded Taoist priest who taught her the arts of metaphysics. Thanks to her extraordinary talent and her master’s rigorous training, by the age of twenty, she had become an unrivaled existence in that world.
Then, during a heavenly tribulation, something went wrong.
But why had she returned to her previous life when she should have been dead?!
What on earth was going on?
“Yun Mojiu, my brother and Xiaoxuan grew up together, they’re the perfect match. Stop making a scene here with your life-or-death drama. If word gets out, people will think we bullied you, and it’ll tarnish our family’s reputation.”
“Mojiu, you’ve always been sensible. Xiaoxuan is already pregnant with Jingling’s child. There’s no point in you making trouble anymore. Just sign the divorce papers as soon as possible, it’s better for everyone.”
“I’m sorry, Mojiu. It’s all my fault for listening to rumors back then, causing misunderstandings between Jingling and me. I left the country in anger, and he was so heartbroken that he married you just to provoke me. He told me he never touched you these past two years. After the divorce, you can still…”
The incessant noise around her grated on Yun Mojiu’s nerves.
“Hand it over.”
She cut them off bluntly.
Sun Xiaoxuan: “What?”
A flicker of impatience crossed Yun Mojiu’s brow. “The divorce papers.”
At her words, the four people in the room were stunned.
She had agreed!
So quickly!
But before this, hadn’t she been desperate, refusing to divorce?
They had expected to waste more effort convincing her, but to their surprise, it had gone so smoothly.
Had she changed?
The four exchanged bewildered glances, especially Xie Jingling.
His dark eyes deepened as he studied Yun Mojiu.
Something about her felt different, but he couldn’t pinpoint what.
Still, as long as she was willing to divorce, nothing else mattered.
After signing the last stroke, Yun Mojiu pinched the bridge of her nose and pointed at the door.
“Get out.”
“What kind of attitude is that?! How dare you tell us to get out!” Xie Tongtong fumed.
Yun Mojiu smirked coldly. “If you don’t want to walk out, you can fly out instead.”
“You!”
Xie Tongtong was about to retort when she suddenly remembered something. With a smug huff, she pulled out a document.
“When you married my brother, you signed an agreement, if you divorced, you’d leave with nothing!”
“Oh.”
Yun Mojiu responded indifferently, her expression utterly unbothered.
Her gaze flickered briefly to Sun Xiaoxuan before she gave Xie Jingling a meaningful smile.
“Congratulations on becoming a father.”
Though, who the child really belonged to was anyone’s guess.
Xie Jingling’s brow furrowed tightly.
What did she mean by that?
She was acting so strange today!
The woman who had once adored him with every fiber of her being hadn’t even spared him a single glance since waking up!
The woman who had stubbornly refused to divorce in the past now agreed without hesitation today.
The usually gentle and agreeable woman now spoke with a sarcastic edge, her words dripping with disdain that left a sour taste.
Sun Xiaoxuan’s eyes darted away nervously.
Yun Mojiu’s gaze had made her feel as though she knew something.
No way!
How could she possibly know?
Guilt-ridden, Sun Xiaoxuan immediately clung to Xie Jingling’s arm, her voice soft and pleading, “Jingling, since we’ve already got the divorce papers, let’s not disturb Mojiu’s rest. Besides, my stomach isn’t feeling too well.”
The moment she mentioned her discomfort, Xie Jingling and his family immediately forgot all about Yun Mojiu, crowding around Sun Xiaoxuan like she was a golden goose about to lay an egg, carefully escorting her out.
Watching the ghostly shadow clinging to Sun Xiaoxuan’s back and the dark aura of misfortune swirling above the heads of the Xie family, Yun Mojiu slowly curled her lips into a smile.
The Xie household was bound to be quite lively from now on.
But none of that concerned her anymore.
In her past life, she had fallen for Xie Jingling during university.
He had always been lukewarm toward her, but one day, out of the blue, he proposed marriage. Overjoyed, she accepted without hesitation.
Yet after the wedding, he never touched her, never even shared a room with her.
It wasn’t until later that she learned he had a white moonlight in his heart.
Back then, she naively believed that if she just loved him enough, he would eventually turn his gaze toward her.
But reality slapped her hard in the face.
Just a few days ago, he told her that not only had he reunited with his beloved, but they were also expecting a child and he wanted a divorce.
Unable to bear the blow, she slit her wrists in despair.
Looking back now, her past self had truly been a hopelessly foolish lovesick fool!
After her soul drifted to another world, where she begged on the streets and fought stray dogs for scraps, she finally understood, love meant nothing compared to survival.
By the time she became the foremost master of the mystical arts, her perspective had completely transformed.
Now, seeing Xie Jingling again, she felt not even a ripple of emotion, only contempt for his sheer stupidity.
To be so easily manipulated by a woman who had first abandoned him and then cuckolded him.
Which eye had she been blind with to ever fall for him?
Now, even a single glance at him felt like pollution. All she wanted was to sever ties as quickly as possible.
Divorce?
She couldn’t ask for more!
The moment the Xie family stepped out of the hospital,
“Ouch!”
Zhao Mei twisted her ankle on the steps, collapsing to the ground in pain.
“Mom, are you okay?”
Xie Tongtong rushed forward, only to step on something soft and slippery.
Looking down, her face darkened instantly.
“Ugh! Whose damn dog pooped here?!”
Furious at the dog feces stuck to her shoe, she cursed loudly.
Finally, they made it to the car, only for the engine to refuse to start.
Xie Jingling had no choice but to call for repairs and then phoned his assistant to bring another car.
Yet after waiting a full hour, the assistant finally arrived.
Xie Jingling’s face was stormy.
“What took you so long?!”
The assistant looked equally frustrated. “No idea why, but the roads were jammed, and every light was red.”
“Impossible! It should only take twenty minutes from the company!” Xie Tongtong refused to believe it.
But when they finally got home from the hospital after a full hour and a half, she was utterly dumbfounded.
What kind of rotten luck was this?!
Out of the fifteen traffic lights along the way, they hit every single one at red, and every single time, they caught it right from the first second of the countdown, waiting through the entire duration!
Not only that, but they also got stuck in traffic due to an accident, road construction, and even pedestrians arguing in the middle of the street!
It was like bad luck had opened the door for misfortune, utterly and completely cursed!
Back at the hospital.
“Had enough of the show?”
After the Xie family had left, Yun Mojiu cast a faint glance toward the doorway.
There stood a faint, shadowy figure.
The man was tall and slender, his features cold and strikingly defined, exuding an air of lazy elegance.
He leaned casually against the doorframe, his deep, penetrating eyes seeming to see right through everything.
Except… he wasn’t human.
