Chapter 6: Fainting
“Are you sick?” Wen Yan was shocked by her. How neurotic must this book’s author be to create a character who forces others to continue pursuing Xu Mingxin?
Wen Yan shook off her hand and stepped back. “Don’t come any closer. I’m letting you off this time, but if you take another step forward, I won’t be so polite!”
After speaking, Wen Yan brandished her large fist. Perhaps still rattled by the scene at the banquet, she glanced back every few steps but didn’t see the silver-haired Alpha following her.
Back at the villa, Wen Yan greeted Auntie Wang and went upstairs. She had just taken off her evening gown when the slightly ajar bedroom door was pushed open.
“What the heck.” Wen Yan clutched the exposed skin on her chest. A black-haired maid with straight bangs walked in. Wen Yan stammered, “Why did you come in without knocking?”
The black-haired maid showed a puzzled expression. “Master, didn’t you say before that I don’t need to knock when you’re changing, and I can just come in to serve you?”
Wen Yan vaguely recalled that the original host did have this bad habit. She cleared her throat. “That rule is changing. You must knock before entering my bedroom from now on. Got it?”
“Understood, Master.”
After getting dressed, Wen Yan began to think about renovating the villa. Xu Ruozhou would definitely move in after the marriage.
The original host was cruel, making the female lead live in a dark, damp basement, and only during the monthly Omega heat period would she falsely allow the female lead to move into the guest room.
In reality, the guest room had surveillance cameras. The original host loved sitting with the fake daughter to watch Xu Ruozhou’s pathetic, full-body spasms of pain after injecting low-quality Omega inhibitors.
They would laugh hysterically, even saving the videos and sending them to others for entertainment.
A shiver ran down Wen Yan’s spine. No wonder readers kept slamming the author for abusing the female lead late in the novel’s updates.
Compared to the suffering Xu Ruozhou endured over the years, the eventual plot where she merely broke the original host’s legs and tormented the fake daughter into mental derangement seemed almost merciful.
Wen Yan sighed. Why did she have to be the one to transmigrate into this book?
Why transmigrate into anyone but the villain with the same name as her, who was dedicated to courting death?
“Master, you look troubled?”
The voice came from below. Wen Yan lowered her head. The black-haired maid was kneeling by her feet, gently wiping the dust off her ankles with a warm towel.
Wen Yan had never been served like this before, and her whole body stiffened. She said cautiously, “Oh, I’m thinking about the villa renovations. Buying that blue diamond necklace at the auction cost too much. The family is out of cash. If I use the company accounts, I’m afraid those old fossils in the company will stir up trouble again.”
“Master, your account receives new dividends every month. If you wish to renovate the villa, you can sign a one-to-two-year contract with the workers, offering a slightly higher salary than the market price, paid every six months. I believe many people would be willing to work for you.”
“Oh, right!” Wen Yan suddenly realized. The original host, this spendthrift, had used up all the money in the account, leaving her with no cash available after paying the villa staff. But the Wen family was still a member of the wealthy circle. As long as she painted a big enough picture, there would still be people willing to accept those terms and work for her.
“You’re very clever!” Wen Yan looked at the plain-looking black-haired maid, her eyes lighting up. “What’s your name again?”
“Master, I am Lin Xi.”
“Oh, Lin Xi.”
Lin Xi?!
Wen Yan’s smile froze on her lips.
Wasn’t Lin Xi Xu Ruozhou’s most ruthless follower? Xu Ruozhou considered the original host beneath contempt; how could she personally break the original host’s legs?
That kind of messy work would, of course, be handed over to the most ruthless and cold-hearted person. Why did no one tell her that Lin Xi, who literally broke her legs, was living right by her side?!
Wen Yan felt her legs start to ache faintly again.
“Master?” The black-haired maid looked confused. “Did Lin Xi do something wrong?”
“No, no, no.” Wen Yan gave an awkward laugh, swiftly pulled up her feet, and curled up on the sofa, hugging her knees. “You did a great job. I’m very satisfied with you.”
“Master, if Lin Xi does anything wrong, please tell Lin Xi. Lin Xi wants to do better for anything that concerns you.”
Wen Yan forced an awkward yet polite smile. Who would believe that nonsense? I’ll be satisfied if you just don’t break my legs in the future.
The fire crackled in the fireplace. The open front door of the villa let in the increasingly heavy sound of rain. Wen Yan dismissed the maids and sat alone in the living room, recalling the crucial plot points ahead.
Unknowingly, her eyelids began to droop. Just as she was about to fall asleep, her phone suddenly vibrated. Startled, Wen Yan sprang up from the sofa. Her tense nerves finally relaxed when she realized it was just a text message.
Who would text the original host so late? Wen Yan opened the flashing red dot and found it was a message from Xu Mingxin.
Xu Mingxin was inviting her to the Xu family’s house as a guest.
Wen Yan frowned slightly. It was so late; why was she inviting someone over for a meal? And after Wen Yan had shown her such disrespect tonight, why was this person still clinging to her? Was her zodiac sign a sticky rice cake?
Wen Yan decided to simply ignore her. But after a while, Xu Mingxin sent another message.
This time, she included a picture. Wen Yan clicked on it impatiently. The irritated expression on her face lasted only a second before her pupils contracted in shock. She ran to the entryway, grabbed the nearest jacket, and dashed straight out into the heavy rain.
“Oh, Miss, you didn’t take an umbrella!” Auntie Wang chased after her for two steps.
Wen Yan hailed a cab. Most of these wealthy people lived in the same district. The distance between the Wen family and the Xu family was only five or six kilometers. Following the original host’s memory, she quickly found the Xu family’s location.
The villa was brightly lit, its grandeur visible from a distance. Servants carrying umbrellas and smiling warmly were everywhere in the yard, yet they all showed the same cold indifference when passing the drenched, kneeling figure, as if they were used to ignoring her.
The sound of the rain in her ears grew louder. Unconsciously, Wen Yan had crossed the front garden and reached the vicinity of the drenched figure kneeling on the cold cement slab outside the villa door.
“…Xu Ruozhou?” she tentatively called out. The kneeling figure outside the villa door seemed to tremble. Wen Yan tried to drape her jacket over the Omega’s completely rain-soaked evening dress, but Xu Ruozhou coldly pushed it away.
The black windbreaker fell into a puddle. Wen Yan stood empty-handed, her Adam’s apple bobbing with difficulty. “Xu Ruozhou, why are you kneeling here?”
She didn’t hear Xu Ruozhou’s answer, perhaps because the Omega didn’t want to speak, or perhaps because another voice provided the answer to Wen Yan’s question.
“Of course, it’s because she stole something.”
The heavy rain soaked the fringe on Wen Yan’s forehead. She lifted her eyes. On the steps, Xu Mingxin, wearing clean pajamas and expensive Hermes slippers, held an umbrella and met her gaze with a smile. “Sister Wen Yan~”
Xu Mingxin stepped down the stairs but stopped at the last step, disdainfully looking at the water pooling on the ground and the person drenched and kneeling in the rain.
Xu Mingxin smiled sweetly and said to Wen Yan, “Sister Wen Yan, come inside quickly. The rain is getting heavier. You’ll get sick standing in the rain like this.”
“Xu Mingxin, what did Ruozhou steal from you?” Wen Yan felt her voice trembling as she spoke. Xu Mingxin looked at her strangely. “Sister, didn’t I text you?”
“Of course, it’s the blue diamond necklace you gave me!”
“Did you forget?” A Xu family servant came down the steps and respectfully handed a rough little box to Xu Mingxin. Xu Mingxin took out the extremely expensive blue diamond necklace.
The captivating dark blue brilliance was dazzling even in the dark night—a beauty beyond compare. Xu Mingxin excitedly held the necklace, measuring it against her neck. “Sister Wen Yan, I knew you were just joking with me at the birthday banquet.”
“Xu Mingxin!” Wen Yan clenched her fists, her knuckles white from the force. She dodged the umbrella Xu Mingxin held on the steps to shield her from the downpour. “This necklace clearly…”
…clearly was the birthday gift she had given to Xu Ruozhou.
Before Wen Yan could finish, a pair of ice-cold hands tightly gripped her ankle. She turned to see the pale-faced Xu Ruozhou weakly shaking her head at her.
Wen Yan swallowed her frustration. She bit her trembling lower lip and looked at Xu Mingxin. “How much longer does she have to kneel?”
A sly smile flashed in Xu Mingxin’s eyes. “About three more hours.”
“Sister Wen Yan, why are you so concerned about her? Don’t stand in the rain. Come inside.”
“If I don’t care about her, should I care about you?”
Xu Mingxin was taken aback. “Sister Wen Yan, are you still mad because I rejected you? I’m still young, and it’s not time for me to get married. Actually, I treat all of you equally in my heart!”
“Enough, stop talking.” Wen Yan’s face turned cold. She picked up the jacket that had fallen on the ground, shook off the rainwater, and used her arms to hold the coat over the head of the thoroughly drenched Omega.
“Xu Mingxin, our relationship is over. Xu Ruozhou is my future wife. If she stole something from the Xu family, I am willing to bear the consequences with her.”
The rapidly falling raindrops hit the black windbreaker, which was almost blending into the deep night, quickly forming a pool of water.
Xu Mingxin stared at her former ardent admirer, her sweet voice hiding a thread of malice. “Wen Yan, wouldn’t it be better if we were like before?”
Wen Yan didn’t answer her, only standing silently behind the kneeling figure. A few raindrops that landed on the black windbreaker splashed onto Xu Mingxin’s foot, and she clicked her tongue in disgust.
“Since you’re willing to stay with her, then stay.” Xu Mingxin looked at Wen Yan with disdain before turning away. “After all, you’re not the only one who likes me.”
What did it matter if she gave a piece of trash to Xu Ruozhou?
The villa door slammed shut. Wen Yan raised her voice in the white mist of the heavy rain, tentatively calling out Xu Ruozhou’s name a few times, but the Omega still didn’t respond. Only her trembling shoulder blades remained stubbornly upright.
Wen Yan sighed internally, no longer planning to persuade her. Rather than worrying about Xu Ruozhou, she should worry about whether she, the villain, would die of hypothermia. After all, Xu Ruozhou had the Female Lead’s Halo buff; she certainly wouldn’t be harmed.
Three hours passed like this. Wen Yan’s arm was giving out. The moment the time was up, she immediately lowered her raised arm. Her sore shoulders and neck finally got a chance to rest.
Wen Yan half-squatted down and poked the female lead’s arm. “Three hours are up. You…”
Feeling the deathly coldness, Wen Yan froze. She raised a trembling hand and checked for her breath.
“Xu Ruozhou!”
