Chapter 7: Signing the Agreement
After being released from the confinement room, Constant saw Bai coming out of the adjacent room and offered a greeting, though his expression carried a hint of strain.
The broken rib had been reset to its original position following a doctor’s diagnosis, but he still couldn’t make any large movements. However, training would not pause just because of his injury.
On the fighting stage.
Whether the instructor had done it intentionally or not, today’s opponent standing across from him was none other than Lester, the one they had the conflict with. At this moment, Lester stood opposite him with a face full of schadenfreude.
As soon as the command was given, the other party revealed a smirk. Immediately following, a fist lunged toward him.
“I’m definitely going to cripple you today.”
“Nice thought.” Through these days of training, Constant’s stamina had improved. Although he couldn’t match the strength of other female bugs, he had added counterattacks to his original evasion skills. Based on this alone, he was confident he wouldn’t completely become the other’s sandbag.
During the struggle, the two slammed into a nearby crystal pillar. To suppress Constant, Lester unfurled his bone wings and erected the barbs on them to prevent Constant from taking the opportunity to escape his attack range.
The original combat training time was ten minutes, but today the time seemed to have been extended. Constant also realized this problem: because in the tactics he had originally determined, Lester would use his strength advantage to attack him, and he could only exhaust his own stamina to fight back, thereby stalling for time.
This was the most fundamental gap between a male bug and a female bug.
Upon discovering that the time had been passively extended, Constant realized that everything happening today seemed to be pre-arranged. Constant, who was already injured and at a disadvantage, was still matched against his enemy Lester for a duel with an extended duration; this was clearly an attempt to use the opportunity to ruin him.
The person in the shadows knew his identity; his smooth arrival here was the result of that person’s orchestration.
However, Constant had known this for a long time, he just didn’t expect them to strike so quickly, it seemed the plan Nathanael was currently executing had touched their interests, and he was the first “gift” they were sending to Nathanael.
After a cold sneer, Constant suddenly lifted his head. His gaze no longer held the initial avoidance, but was firm he would no longer be Nathanael’s burden.
Shifting from defense to reckless offense, just as Lester began to pull back for defense, Constant’s fist brushed past his cheek, followed by a sudden electric current. Taking advantage of the gap while Lester’s body began to shake violently, Constant landed another punch on his stomach.
After falling to the ground completely wrapped in his bone wings, Lester looked through his wing membranes at the ring on Constant’s hand: the partner chip he had originally assumed was there turned out to be a miniature taser.
“You!” In combat training, if you are knocked to the ground, making any explanation is considered a sign of incompetence, so Lester only let out a short, blunt sound before shutting his mouth: today’s humiliation, he would definitely take it back!
Constant patted his hands and then curled his lips at Lester: “I accept the win.”
One sentence sent Lester into an instantaneous rage.
But the whistle blew just at the right moment. After assembling, the instructor provided comments on today’s groups and then disbanded the temporarily formed combat team.
“Not bad.” Bai nudged Constant with his elbow. “I thought you were really finished.”
“There’s someone waiting for me to go home.” Constant rubbed his shoulder to relieve the recoil of that last punch. “I feel like I hit a piece of sheet metal.”
“You haven’t received combat training before?” Bai was shocked by Constant’s answer: because in the Zerg race, from the moment female bugs are born, they receive skeletal reinforcement training from bug-breeders. Although he was a sub-female, his father had not reduced his training because of it. Thus, while his strength couldn’t keep up with those female bugs, the combat techniques taught by his father allowed him to hold his own when fighting them.
“…The nest was quite poor.” As a male bug, he had only heard of this method of bug-breeding; only now, seeing a real case, was he finally convinced of this profession’s existence.
So those military females he saw as a child might have been Nathanael’s bug-breeders!
He had even helped Nathanael chase away seven of them!!!
How much does it cost to hire one. He hoped it wasn’t too expensive, otherwise he would truly feel guilty.
“Five hundred thousand bug coins,” Bai recalled.
“!!!” Although his family background wasn’t considered illustrious, it was in the middle of the noble class five hundred thousand bug coins was equivalent to the price of an interstellar travel rocket!
Seven bug-breeders, three and a half million bug coins.
Gone just like that from his and Nathanael’s hands?
Regret caused Constant, whose family had now fallen into ruin, to bite his fist: it seemed part of the reason for the economic problems in Nathanael’s family back then might really have been because of him, yet Nathanael’s father and dad had still been pleasant to him.
Thinking of this, he was even a bit moved.
For the remaining half month, because of this combat training, Constant had become aware of the forces in the shadows. While remaining constantly on guard, he also carried out intensive training to strengthen his physique.
With great difficulty, he finally reached this month’s leave…
“Nar!!!” Upon returning to the villa nest, Constant dropped the vegetables and fruits in his hands and lunged toward his female consort.
But at that moment, he saw a couple sitting on the sofa Nathanael’s father, Raphael, and his dad, Nelson.
The movement of lunging toward Nathanael froze mid-air, but clearly, his female consort did not let his action default; instead, Nathanael took a few steps forward and dove directly into Constant’s arms: “You’re back.”
Male bug, buying groceries, Nar, hugging.
When these words surfaced in Nelson’s mind, he felt they were extremely surreal. One must know that years ago, Nathanael had been constantly cleaning up Constant’s messes outside—even they had heard rumors of it. And a few months ago, when Nathanael insisted on marrying Constant despite his own dissuasion, he was so angry he didn’t even attend the wedding, let alone intend to see that “stink bug” with a notorious reputation.
But who could have guessed that in the electronic letter Nathanael sent them, it actually contained news of Constant “turning over a new leaf.”
He originally didn’t believe it. It was perfectly normal for a male bug to possess many female attendants and female pets; the probability of a “prodigal son returning” in the Zerg race was smaller than the probability of having one male in ten births. Turning over a new leaf? This was likely just an excuse Nathanael found for Constant!
But when Constant entered the door with vegetables in one hand and fruit in the other, he had to believe it.
Constant raised his hands and gave Nathanael a hug—it wasn’t as ardent as before, but a very, very light touch on his back before letting go.
Nathanael felt Constant’s restraint, so he proactively took his hand and led him to the other side of the sofa to sit down, using the angle to shield Constant’s figure.
“We aren’t going to eat him.” As Nathanael’s father, Raphael sat with his fingers interlaced in front of him, exuding an aura that made one shiver—as the founder of current Zerg interstellar warship design, Raphael held an extraordinary status on Planet Bug.
Even the past-life Constant would have shown some restraint upon seeing his female consort’s father and dad.
Seeing his child being so protective of Constant, Nelson didn’t plan to continue making things difficult. He pulled an post-nuptial agreement from his optical computer and projected it in front of Constant: “Regarding the matter between you and Nathanael, I think you already know our meaning.”
Although the two had grown up together and the elders on both sides were considered well-acquainted, that was a different matter from becoming partners. They had long known their son’s feelings for Constant. Although he was now a Major General of the planet, he still didn’t plan to select a more suitable high-level mental power male bug as his partner, choosing instead the Constant they most resisted…
Constant scrolled with his fingertips, looking at the light screen before him. Beside him, Nathanael’s gaze followed his male lord’s.
“Dad…” Seeing certain contents of the agreement, Nathanael was prepared to raise them with Nelson, but in the next moment, he saw Constant place his electronic seal at the end of the agreement.
This action surprised not only Nelson but even the consistently expressionless Raphael leaned his body forward slightly.
They had originally thought Constant would bargain with them because of certain conditions in the agreement; as it turned out, the other party clearly didn’t care about the conditions unfavorable to him and decisively stamped his seal in front of them.
“El, did you really read it carefully?”
Constant nodded and then pulled the agreement to a clause on the third page: If Mr. Constant wishes to marry another partner, he must first terminate his marriage with Mr. Nathanael in advance.
“Did you want to talk about this clause?” Constant looked at Nathanael and asked: “Or perhaps…” He flipped the agreement to the last page: Mr. Nathanael will be Mr. Constant’s only partner, at all times.
But Nathanael didn’t speak; instead, he kissed Constant in front of his father, causing Raphael to cover his eyes are kids these days so bold?
“No, Nar…” Constant clearly hadn’t expected Nathanael to do such a thing because of his action, so for a moment, he was at a loss.
After Nelson took a deep breath, he withdrew the copy of the agreement. After exchanging a look with Raphael, the two rose simultaneously to leave.
Constant originally planned to see them out, but Nathanael had no intention of letting him leave the sofa. So, once the door was closed again, he ripped Constant’s shirt open.
Hearing the sound of fabric tearing by his ear, Constant’s entire body shuddered.
