- Chapter 55 - What to do when you step on your Sugar Daddy's foot?
The group was chatting happily. Song Qingxing originally thought that Old Madam Xie would be like Grandma Jia in Dream of the Red Chamber—seemingly amiable but possessing great authority.
However, after spending time with her, she realized that the other party’s demeanor was very gentle and kind, much easier to get along with than she had imagined.
The group slowly accompanied the old madam through the shaded path and arrived at the main hall. The hall, which had been noisy just a moment ago, immediately quieted down as soon as the old madam arrived.
Sure enough, this was the presence of the family’s matriarch.
As the music began, everyone started chatting among themselves. Song Qingxing thought there would be a scene like in the movies, with everyone swaying and dancing on the dance floor. But in reality, only a few couples who were romantically interested in each other were dancing.
Many people were clinking glasses, sipping champagne, and talking, seemingly discussing matters of the business world. This, after all, was the true purpose of their constant gatherings.
“What are you looking at?”
“Nothing. I just thought your family really lived a life of debauchery… with parties every day.”
Song Qingxing shook her head lightly, but then realized she had said too much. How could she describe the Xie family’s life as a ‘pool of wine and forest of meat’?
Wasn’t that incredibly tactless?
“There’s some truth to what you say, but that’s other people’s lives; I can’t control them. The only person I can control is you.”
Xie Jingcheng actually disapproved of the behavior of some other family members, but she was only of the younger generation, and there was little she could manage.
Few people in the family even respected her.
However, Xie Jingcheng was too lazy to argue with them. She didn’t demand much for herself; she just wanted to live a happy life.
If she truly coveted the family’s power and wealth, and wanted to compete with her so-called brothers, sisters, and cousins, she wouldn’t have gone into acting.
Still, Xie Jingcheng was no fool.
What belonged to her, she wouldn’t concede an inch of.
“We don’t need to worry about what others are thinking. Do you want to dance?”
Xie Jingcheng leaned in. Her lips brushed against Song Qingxing’s ear as she spoke, and her breath was fragrant and warm, making it difficult to resist. The fine hairs on Song Qingxing’s earlobe stood up, and her ear flushed instantly crimson.
“You made me change into this dancing gown, so how can we not dance?”
Song Qingxing was a little exasperated, almost rolling her eyes.
Xie Jingcheng’s intentions were as clear as day, yet she was still asking the obvious.
Perhaps this was the little pleasure of being a Sugar Daddy. But it was truly wonderful; if she had been born into a family like the Xies, she estimated she would be a thousand, ten thousand times more arrogant than Xie Jingcheng.
She wouldn’t learn how to keep a low profile at all.
The dancing gown wasn’t floor-length, as that would guarantee a trip and fall, definitely leading to a face-plant and perhaps a chipped front tooth.
The gown was slightly shorter, exposing her fair ankles. Song Qingxing was wearing low-heeled dance shoes. Without the aid of a height-boosting shoe, Song Qingxing would be a head shorter than Xie Jingcheng.
Song Qingxing didn’t use to like wearing high heels, as wearing them for a long time was pure torture for her toes. Sure enough, there was a price for a woman to become beautiful.
Yet, often due to work or acting roles, she would have to wear high heels for an entire day, sometimes even rubbing her toes raw.
In this moment, Song Qingxing incredibly missed high heels. Although they caused pain, they certainly added to her height, allowing her to stand on equal footing with Xie Jingcheng.
To look eye-to-eye.
Song Qingxing and Xie Jingcheng slowly entered the dance floor. Accompanied by the elegant music, Xie Jingcheng danced very slowly. She had systematically learned this type of ballroom dancing.
The Xie family often did business overseas and frequently attended banquets hosted by foreigners, which gradually fostered this kind of atmosphere.
The warm, yellow light from the crystal chandelier shone on Xie Jingcheng’s high nose bridge, and her long hair was neatly tucked behind her ear.
Song Qingxing was momentarily captivated. Xie Jingcheng was truly beautiful, especially the way she patiently led her in the dance.
She could feel her heart beating erratically. Oh no, this was the feeling of a crush! Biting her tongue, Song Qingxing forced herself to stay alert.
She couldn’t be momentarily seduced by this woman.
And truly fall in love with her Sugar Daddy.
But because of this moment of distraction, Song Qingxing stepped squarely on the tip of Xie Jingcheng’s shoe. Xie Jingcheng slightly pursed her lips.
She drew a sharp breath but did not scold Song Qingxing, enduring the pain alone.
“Sorry.”
Song Qingxing raised her eyebrow tips and apologized with a hint of fear. She was afraid that when they returned, Xie Jingcheng would pin her down on the bed and severely punish her.
“No need to apologize. Just don’t get distracted and step on me again.”
Xie Jingcheng said in a low voice, and to ensure Song Qingxing could hear clearly in the noisy ballroom, she tilted her head completely.
Her red lips were close to Song Qingxing’s mouth as she spoke, her words both gentle and suggestive.
But the two of them didn’t realize that such an intimate action looked, from a distance, exactly like an indirect kiss in the middle of the dance floor.
Old Madam Xie smiled, squinting her eyes.
“Jingcheng never says much when she comes back. I’ve tried introducing her to boys and girls, but she always says she’s not interested. I thought she was like a few of her male cousins—not interested in any gender, only themselves.”
“Now that she’s found someone, she’s willing to talk to, it counts as a happy occasion.”
The butler nodded in agreement beside her.
Little did they know, another person was standing behind them. That person’s eyes were brimming with tears, and she softly sniffled. The old madam was a little hard of hearing and didn’t notice.
The butler, however, did hear.
Turning around, he saw that it was An Wenqing.
Evidently, she had also seen the scene and misunderstood the situation.
Unfortunately, the protagonists of the event were oblivious. They continued to dance together. Xie Jingcheng was patient; she was stepped on a few more times afterward but never uttered a sound.
At this moment, Song Qingxing genuinely believed that the other person liked her. Because if she didn’t,
Xie Jingcheng would surely have angrily demanded to know if Song Qingxing was doing it on purpose.
Only love would prevent her from doing so.
Finally, Song Qingxing’s forehead broke out in a light sweat from the dancing. Xie Jingcheng noticed the ‘little rabbit’ was running out of stamina and proactively led her off the dance floor.
Before Song Qingxing could catch her breath, she looked down at the white scuff marks on Xie Jingcheng’s black shoe.
Her small face was slightly red.
“Sorry, I truly didn’t mean it.”
Song Qingxing wanted to pull a tissue from her body, but she was wearing a formal gown with no pockets. Where would she get a tissue?
Song Qingxing could only look around and finally spotted a box of tissues on a nearby table.
She quickly grabbed it and patiently wiped the dust from the tip of the shoe.
“You don’t need to do this.”
Xie Jingcheng crouched down and helped her stand up. To her, it was just a pair of shoes; if they got dirty, she would just tell her assistant to have them cleaned.
“But I was the one who stepped on them.”
“You don’t dance often; stepping on someone is normal. Actually, I shouldn’t have brought you here this time, if it weren’t for Grandma…”
Xie Jingcheng blinked, feeling a little guilty.
