- Chapter 19 - The Domineering Little Boss Man
As the elevator doors closed, the quiet cabin became a scene of covert affection. The little one, held in the arms of the elegant and efficient executive assistant, twitched his ears at the suddenly amplified sound of breathing and looked up.
“Mmmpff!”
Before he knew it, the baby’s face was pressed tightly against the seemingly aloof assistant, who began nuzzling him fervently!
True to her professional reputation, the assistant maximized every second. While showering the child with affection, she simultaneously activated her wrist-mounted light computer, snapping rapid-fire photos from every angle and perspective of herself and the dazed-looking toddler.
When the elevator chimed, the little one hadn’t even processed what happened. The assistant who had moments earlier resembled an ardent fan had already recomposed her cool, professional demeanor. The light computer vanished, and the child’s tousled hat was neatly readjusted. At a glance, it appeared nothing had transpired.
Perched on the assistant’s arm, Jiang Man sat with his plump bottom settled comfortably, tilting his chubby face upward to study her impassive expression. Had one of his cheeks not been flushed rosy and warm from the vigorous nuzzling, he might have believed nothing occurred at all!
Staring at the seemingly unapproachable assistant’s chin, the little boss man couldn’t help but place his hands on his hips, puffing out his soft little chest with pride. Even the cold, professional assistant who appeared indifferent to him couldn’t resist showering him with affection once the elevator doors closed! Hmph! The charm of Boss Man Man was truly irresistible!
The assistant glanced down at the preening little peacock of a child, a flicker of ardent affection shining behind her plain glasses. Remembering her professional persona, she cleared her throat lightly, forcing herself back into her efficient, composed role as she carried the proud little boss toward a large practice room occupied by over twenty people.
A light tap on the glass door halted the practicing group. As the assistant entered carrying the little celebrity, eager eyes instantly focused on them. Had the assistant not been widely known for her stern demeanor, some likely would have rushed over immediately to shower the child with cuddles!
Being an alpha, the assistant stood tall, allowing Jiang Man a clear view of everyone in the practice room from his perch on her arm. They were all strikingly beautiful in their own ways, but unsure why he’d been brought here, Jiang Man looked questioningly at the assistant.
“These are the company’s newly signed trainees preparing for their debut,” the assistant explained patiently. “Chairwoman Jiang specifically requested it. Would you like to play with them for a while?”
Trainees? Jiang Man turned to observe the group of bright-eyed, beautiful young women. Though he rarely watched television, his star-chasing deskmate had familiarized him with the term “trainees.” From what he understood, trainees were typically signed to entertainment agencies.
Did that mean his mother owned an entertainment company? Then he, Boss Man Man, would be the young heir! The domineering little boss man! Woohoo!
Instantly embodying his new role, the little boss nodded graciously to the assistant. As the young women, encouraged by her approval, eagerly gathered around, Jiang Man’s eyes widened in delight.
A kaleidoscope of beauties dazzled his vision. The little aesthetics enthusiast soon found himself utterly enchanted and disoriented by the charming sisters cooing over him.
The entire morning, Jiang Man was passed around like a little emperor in the arms of the beautiful sisters. It wasn’t until nearly noon, when Jiang Feng finished her work and came down to pick up her little one, that she saw her daughter already completely enchanted by the pretty sisters being doted on and teased by them.
The little one’s fair, tender cheeks were covered in lipstick kisses. Spotting her mother, she happily waved her little hand and directed her mother to join the group. Nestled in the center, held by one of the beautiful sisters, she made a “V” sign with her chubby fingers as they took a group photo.
After the photo, Jiang Feng asked her assistant to bring wet wipes to clean the child’s face.
The lipstick marks smeared under the wipes, pooling on her cheeks like two bright red blushes, yet they couldn’t overshadow the little one’s cuteness.
Sitting obediently on her mother’s lap, Jiang Man let her mother knead and press her chubby cheeks as she pleased.
Her adorable appearance sent the surrounding beautiful sisters into silent squeals of delight, and they quickly pulled out their devices to snap a flurry of photos of the little one.
While the child was still oblivious to the camera, Jiang Feng was highly sensitive to it.
Her hand, wiping her daughter’s face, paused briefly. Without the trainees noticing, she glanced around lightly. Seeing no ill intent, she let them continue.
It took a full ten soft wet wipes to restore the little one’s fair, tender face to its original state.
Jiang Man rubbed her reddened cheeks and patted her rumbling stomach, looking pitifully at her mother.
Seeing her daughter pretending to be well-behaved to beg for food, Jiang Feng lifted the child by her armpits, settling her securely in the crook of her arm. Glancing at the slightly nervous newcomers, she curved her lips into a gentle smile to appear more approachable. “Thank you for keeping Manzai company today. She’s hungry now, so I’ll take her upstairs for a meal. You should all head to the cafeteria for lunch and take a break as well.”
The same group who had boldly kissed, hugged, and ruffled Manzai now shrank like quails in Jiang Feng’s presence, not daring to lift their heads.
After all, she was the top boss who held the reins of their careers!
The trainees responded in unison and, at the assistant’s signal, reluctantly left the practice room in small groups.
Watching the beautiful sisters glance back repeatedly as they left, the little one felt equally reluctant and waved her chubby hand in the air to bid them farewell.
Before she could lower her hand, her cheek was pinched by her mischievous mother.
A wicked whisper came from above: “I never knew Manzai was such a little heartbreaker. If your little friend Wen Qing saw this, would she still want to play with you?”
Impossible!
Jiang Man protested with a “bad!” as she swatted her mother’s hand away, her cheeks puffed up in anger as she glared up at her smirking mother.
“Bad, bad!”
Jiang Man defended her wrongly accused friend Wen Qing: “Sis, good!” Sister Wen Qing was so sweet-tempered even if she got a little jealous sometimes, she would never cut ties!
But her mother’s teasing reminder made Jiang Man realize belatedly that she hadn’t seen Wen Qing all morning.
Jiang Feng watched as her previously energetic child suddenly wilted like a dried-up little flower.
Since they’d met, the two children had rarely been apart. Now, belatedly, they were both suffering from separation anxiety.
In another skyscraper, Wen Qing was staring coldly at her mother.
Wen Yu, observing the child who shared her temperament, spoke in an icy tone but didn’t pause her work: “Nuo Nuo made it clear you two are not to meet, and that’s final.”
Wen Qing understood very well just how much Wen Yu listened to her mother.
Yet she continued to stare intently at Wen Yu.
If she weren’t so young, still toddling unsteadily, and if Wen Yu hadn’t put away the walker she had promised to buy for her, Wen Qing would have definitely ridden that walker straight to Jiang Man.
The imagination was full, but reality was stark.
Simply being placed in a high chair, Wen Qing couldn’t even climb out or slide down, let alone go find Jiang Man on her own.
Reality forced the little one to lower her head.
Wen Qing tried to change Wen Yu’s mind, but Wen Yu was a “henpecked husband” who only listened to his wife. Every trick Wen Qing had that worked on Xu Nuo was useless against Wen Yu.
Sitting in the high chair next to the office chair, the little one silently lowered her gaze, her beautiful eyes now filled with gloom.
Suddenly, Wen Yu’s light brain on the desk vibrated a few times it was the special ringtone she had set for her wife.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Wen Yu put down her work and picked up the light brain to check.
The light brain could be set to three modes: privacy, sharing, and public. At that moment, Wen Yu’s light brain was still in privacy mode.
But then, the special ringtone for Xu Nuo sounded again a few times, and Wen Yu switched her light brain to sharing mode.
The gloomy little one was nudged by her mother and looked up at the holographic screen projected in mid-air.
On the screen, she saw the face of the little one she had been longing for, covered in lipstick marks of different shades and shapes, grinning at the camera and happily making a peace sign.
She looked carefree and extremely happy.
Wen Qing’s gaze darkened, and the entire little one became utterly despondent.
Just then, Wen Yu had to add fuel to the fire, snorting with a laugh, “See? Manzai is perfectly happy without you.”
“You’re the only one here, moping all by yourself.”
Hearing her mother’s taunt, the little one lifted her head and cast a cold glare at her.
No matter how much they disliked each other, they were still mother and daughter, connected by blood.
Being connected by blood meant that some things within them were exactly the same.
The little one couldn’t speak, but the expression on her face conveyed exactly what she wanted to say: Aren’t you also here all by yourself, moping?
As a person in power who, aside from her wife, had never been defied by anyone, Wen Yu’s face instantly turned icy, and she looked at the little one as if she were an enemy.
The little one was no less fierce.
After a long standoff between the big and the small, looking at the little one in front of her unable to see the one she loved, unsteady on her feet, and unable to speak Wen Yu, being the adult who could hold her wife to sleep that very night, was the first to back down.
“Want to see Manzai?” Wen Yu asked, already knowing the answer. Watching the little one’s gaze gradually soften, she curled her lips mischievously. “I can, but you? No way.”
In the cold, empty office, the pungent scent of mint spread through the air, directly assaulting the little one sitting in the high chair.
After finishing her meal, Jiang Man couldn’t help but rub her eyes, squeezing out sleepy tears from the corners.
Jiang Feng was still in a video conference with a business partner. Seeing this, the assistant quietly walked over, picked up the little one, and whispered, “Ready to sleep?”
The drowsy little one nodded, nuzzling against the assistant’s crisp professional suit collar, her chubby cheek pressed against the assistant’s chest, and soon began to snore softly.
The usually aloof assistant now held Manzai, radiating a soft aura.
As she prepared to gently place the sleeping little one into the cradle, Assistant Wang lightly knocked and entered the room.
“Chairman Jiang, Mr. Wen from Wen Pharmaceuticals is here to see you. He’s already waiting in the reception room.”
Hearing that Wen Yu had arrived, Jiang Feng ended his video call with his business partner and rose to his feet, his mind filled with suspicion.
