- Reborn as an Alpha and Still Wanting to Engage in Lesbian Relationships
- Chapter 18 - A Born Idol
The family of three lingered at the door, reluctant to part as if facing a heart-wrenching, life-or-death separation.
This was Liu Ying’s first time leaving Manzai alone to work since becoming pregnant.
Though she reminded herself that, as a mother, she shouldn’t cry in front of her daughter, tears still streamed uncontrollably down her face.
Jiang Man, an emotionally sensitive little one, watched her mother weeping like a rain-drenched pear blossom, her own round eyes welling up with tears. Whimpering, she reached out toward her mother.
Turning to glance at Jiang Feng, the situation was even more predictable.
No matter how cold and authoritative she might appear outwardly, at this moment, her eyes too brimmed with tears.
On the two strikingly similar faces of mother and daughter hung identical puffy, tear-streaked eyes.
Liu Ying had been feeling sorrowful, but at the sight of the pair across from her, she couldn’t hold back a sudden laugh, even as tears continued to fall.
Calling out her wife’s name, Jiang Feng stood as straight as a pine tree, holding Jiang Man, like a big dog responding to its owner’s call.
Amused by her, Liu Ying’s voice carried a hint of laughter: “Take good care of Manzai. Don’t leave her alone in the room. If possible, take her out for more walks, she loves playing with her little friends.”
Even though it was just a day’s separation from Jiang Man, Liu Ying chattered on as if they were parting for a month.
She meticulously listed every requirement, precaution, and the child’s likes and dislikes, leaving nothing out as she explained everything carefully to her wife.
Time slipped away bit by bit, the smartband on her wrist having vibrated multiple times.
Liu Ying checked the time and, with reluctance and helplessness, brought her instructions to an end.
Jiang Feng held Jiang Man, watching as Liu Ying got into the car. Once the door closed, both mother and daughter’s faces fell in perfect sync, but then the car window rolled down again.
In unison, their faces lit up with starry eyes and bright smiles.
Liu Ying couldn’t resist one last worried reminder: “No secretly feeding Manzai anything besides her baby meals, you hear me, Jiang Feng?”
“Mission guaranteed accomplished!”
Holding the little one, Jiang Feng saluted her wife in a comically informal manner.
Mother and daughter watched the car’s rear until it disappeared into the estate. Only when craning their necks no longer revealed a trace of the vehicle did they withdraw, disheartened.
One looked down, the other looked up.
On two not entirely similar faces, identical expressions of disdain wrinkled toward each other.
But Jiang Feng was the adult!
A large hand mercilessly pinched the chubby cheeks on either side of the little one’s face, instantly erasing her look of disdain and turning it into a comical little bird-like pout.
So unfair!
Unable to speak, the child widened her eyes in accusation toward her mother.
But Jiang Feng was a cold and merciless bad mother!
Seeing the little one still daring to glare at her, she grew even more unrestrained in her cheek-pinching antics.
Like two peers, mother and daughter began to “scuffle.”
The little one was left panting, her tiny hat askew and clothes rumpled. Meanwhile, Jiang Feng took a handkerchief handed by a maid and wiped the drool from her own face.
In what felt like the umpteenth battle initiated behind the wife/mother’s back, mother and daughter achieved yet another mutually destructive outcome!
A temporary truce was called.
Jiang Man was carried off by the maid to change clothes, while Jiang Feng also returned to the dressing room to change and prepare for work.
The little one changed clothes quickly. Jiang Man was now dressed in a baby onesie printed with little puppies, complete with a puppy hat. At first glance, she looked utterly adorable, like a milky-scented puppy cub that had just learned to transform.
A moment later, Jiang Feng appeared in a deep blue, dark-toned professional suit, looking sharp, elite, and thoroughly competent.
Spotting the little one, Jiang Feng smiled as she fastened the clasp of her wristwatch and walked over, taking the child from the nanny’s arms.
“Let’s go, little cub.”
Settled in her mother’s arms, the little one suddenly had a pair of cool sunglasses perched on her ears, matching her mother’s.
A low-key business car was already waiting at the door. The assistant, seeing Jiang Feng carrying the little one, swiftly stepped out of the passenger seat and opened the rear door for them.
Jiang Man was placed in her infant car seat. She pushed her crooked sunglasses back into place and watched as two or three efficient assistant sisters surrounded her mother, who quickly immersed herself in work.
“Chairman Jiang, does Sister Liu Ying’s new drama require additional investment?”
“Morale in the company has been a bit lax lately. Some people below have started getting other ideas should we step in to manage it?”
“Chairman Jiang, recently…”
The data, analyses, and proposed solutions made Jiang Man drowsy. She lifted a hand to rub her eyes but ended up rubbing the lenses of her sunglasses instead.
Tears of sleepiness welled up at the corners of her eyes. Jiang Man yawned, tilted her head, and drifted off to sleep.
The soft sound of the little one’s snoring gradually filled the enclosed car. Jiang Feng raised a hand, and her long-time assistant immediately lowered her voice.
The little one in the car seat had unknowingly fallen into a deep sleep. Dreaming of something pleasant, her small mouth curved into a smile, revealing her neatly grown little white teeth. The sunglasses on her nose had slipped askew.
The boss was a love-struck romantic anything related to Liu Ying was automatically given repeated attention by the assistants. Of course, they hadn’t missed Liu Ying and Manzai’s recent variety show.
When the chief assistant notified them this morning that the boss would be bringing Manzai to work today, the entire secretarial office had been buzzing with excitement.
And now, these few lucky ones, witnessing the boss carrying Manzai into the car, felt their breath catch in their throats!
Her sparkling eyes, chubby cheeks, bright sunny smile, and the cool little sunglasses that didn’t quite match her outfit.
If not for their professional restraint, the assistants would have been unable to resist giving her a little squeeze and a cuddle!
Seeing the little one wave a hand, the assistants lowered their reporting voices another notch.
Unlike usual, the soundproofed car remained exceptionally quiet throughout the journey. But if one listened closely, faint whispers could still be heard.
Jiang Man slept the whole way. Upon arriving at the company’s underground parking garage, Jiang Feng, who had “toiled” all the way, looked at the soundly sleeping little one and felt a mischievous impulse stir within.
After the assistants had stepped out first, she let out a playful, cackling laugh and poked the deeply sleeping child awake.
Fortunately, Jiang Man was a well-behaved cub with no morning grumpiness. In those first moments after waking, she was sweet, clingy, and utterly endearing. Poked awake by her mischievous mother, she merely blinked in confusion and reached out her arms, asking to be held.
Jiang Feng, who was decisive and sharp in business, even using her smile to outmaneuver opponents, now felt a twinge of heartache for having woken the little one.
She reached out to adjust the child’s sunglasses, then bent down to unbuckle the seatbelt and lifted the little one out with one arm.
The little one had quite the idol image to maintain. As soon as she descended, her tiny hands tightly clutched her sunglasses, preventing them from slipping.
Seeing the assistants waiting at the elevator entrance, Jiang Feng was somewhat surprised. “Why didn’t any of you go up?”
The assistants chuckled and casually brushed off the question. When the elevator doors opened, they stepped in first to hold the door for their boss, who was carrying Manzai.
Once everyone was inside the elevator, in the silence and out of sight of Jiang Man and Jiang Feng, the assistants exchanged glances more complex than Morse code.
Finally, someone cleared their throat and softly called out to Jiang Feng.
Jiang Feng, holding Manzai, turned around in confusion.
Under the gaze of both the boss and Manzai, the usually calm and efficient assistant stumbled over her words: “Boss, um, what does Manzai eat. I mean, what does Manzai like to eat? Should we prepare something for her?”
“No need, Manzai is very easy to take care of.” Jiang Feng looked at the blushing assistant, finding her a bit odd. Frowning in puzzlement, he asked, “Xiao Wang, are you feeling unwell? Why is your face so red? Do you need to take the day off?”
The assistant named Xiao Wang quickly shook her head, her movements so fast they left a blur.
Sensing the little one’s worried gaze, Xiao Wang had no choice but to explain, her face still flushed: “Um, I’ve liked Manzai for a long time. Could I take a photo with her, boss?”
“Pfft, of course!”
Upon hearing this, the little one quickly pulled down her pitch-black sunglasses, revealing her round, sparkling, puppy-like eyes. She gazed brightly at Xiao Wang, tugging at her mother’s arm as if trying to burrow into her embrace.
This was the first sister who had said she liked her!
Strictly speaking, this sister was the first fan to express affection for Jiang Man!
Jiang Man was like an enthusiastic little puppy after being praised, eagerly trying to snuggle into the arms of the person who had complimented her.
She was so eager that Jiang Feng almost lost his grip.
Fearing he might drop the little one, Jiang Feng had no choice but to follow her lead and hand Jiang Man over to the assistant.
When Xiao Wang held the little one, her mind went completely blank. It wasn’t until she felt the jealous stares of her colleagues that she managed to regain a bit of composure.
“Assistant sister, let’s take a photo!”
The little one wrapped her soft arms around Xiao Wang’s neck, pressing her chubby cheeks against hers with immense enthusiasm.
Jiang Man had accompanied her mother to film sets before and had seen many people who admired and adored her mother. Jiang Xiaoman was incredibly envious.
Now, Great King Manman had a fan too!
While snuggling, Jiang Man waved at her mother, who was standing there dumbfounded: “What are you waiting for? Hurry up and take our photo!”
Great King Manman didn’t hesitate at all, directing the CEO, who handled multimillion-dollar deals every minute.
Watching her daughter’s enthusiastic “fan service,” Jiang Feng raised an eyebrow, silently agreeing with his wife’s manager’s assessment of their daughter.
If Manzai were to pursue a career as an actor or idol, she would undoubtedly become a highly professional and radiant star.
Having debuted as a guest star just over a month ago, Jiang Man, not even a year old, had already mastered the art of fan service something many newcomers in the company still struggled with.
How could she not be considered a prodigious star?
Looking at the assistant who had been completely won over by Manzai, Jiang Feng smiled, took out his tablet, and aimed the camera at them. “Xiao Wang, stop looking at Manzai and look at the camera.”
Hearing the boss’s voice, Assistant Wang reluctantly tore her gaze away from the little one.
The elevator ascended all the way to the top floor of the company before coming to a stop. Dozens of photos of her daughter with several assistants had already appeared in Jiang Feng’s mind.
Finally, Jiang Man was back in Jiang Feng’s arms.
With a soft “ding”, the elevator doors opened. Jiang Feng, holding the little one, stepped out first. Before entering her office, she turned her head and said to Assistant Wang and the others, “I’ll send all your photos to you later. Manzai doesn’t know how to sign yet, so you can print them out and have her stamp a handprint as a signature.”
With that, she carried the little one into her office.
Click, the office door closed.
In the secretarial office, the dozen or so secretaries who usually maintained their composure under Jiang Feng’s leadership now surrounded Assistant Wang and her colleagues like a pack of hungry wolves.
The soundproof office door effectively blocked out the clamor from the secretarial office.
Inside the office, the chief assistant had already arranged for a crib and a series of baby supplies.
Placing the little one in the crib, Jiang Feng took the small sunglasses from her daughter’s hand and set them aside with her own.
Jiang Man sat by the railing of the crib, curiously watching the computer-like device in front of her mother.
Noticing her gaze, Jiang Feng paused from flipping through the documents. “Bored? If you are, would you like the chief assistant to take you for a walk downstairs?”
“Pfft!” Yes!
Jiang Man nodded excitedly.
Mom is a super mega-star, but she still doesn’t know what her mother’s job is!
Seeing the little one wiggling her feet with joy, Jiang Feng chuckled and dialed the internal line. Shortly after, the chief assistant entered.
“I have a meeting soon. Take Manzai for a walk downstairs.”
“She enjoys interacting with people. Aren’t there a few trainees in the company preparing to debut? Let her chat with them.” Her daughter’s popularity was too good not to leverage.
The little one, who didn’t quite understand what her mother was saying, was carried out by the beautiful chief assistant in a daze.
Passing by the eagerly waiting secretarial office and heading straight for the elevator, Jiang Man, held by the beautiful chief assistant, tilted her head back to look at the assistant’s chin.
Hmm…
She had a feeling the sister didn’t really like her.
