Reborn as a Human Cauldron, But I'm the Top - Chapter 99
Chapter 99: Go, Don’t Look Back
Su Zhao was also startled by the sudden turn of events. She gave a bitter smile. “Sword Venerable’s acting is excellent.”
A gentle breeze transformed into chains, binding Su Zhao and the wheelchair together. Out of caution, Shen Yirong didn’t release her wrist and then cast a spell to lock her spiritual energy.
Looking at the still composed Su Zhao, Shen Yirong felt an indescribable complexity.
She could have realized it earlier, but she simply wished the answer wasn’t Su Zhao.
Shen Yirong’s face was stern. After casually wiping the blood from her lips, she stood before Su Zhao and carefully concealed her bitterness. “It’s not that I’m a good actress; it’s that you were too confident in yourself.”
Shen Yirong was right. Su Zhao believed the person with missing memory wouldn’t suspect her. The facts proved she was wrong.
Su Zhao could no longer hide herself. Facing her former friend, she lowered her head. “The Sword Venerable hasn’t struck yet. Is it out of lingering sentiment?”
Memories rushed through her mind. Shen Yirong couldn’t lie to herself; she couldn’t forgive, but she also couldn’t strike.
She looked at her empty hands and coldly found an excuse. “I have no sword in hand at the moment.”
Su Zhao gently raised her head. Though sightless, she could keenly perceive the emotions in the words of others, especially since Shen Yirong wasn’t heavily concealing them now.
Su Zhao couldn’t see Shen Yirong’s expression.
But it’s probably better that she couldn’t.
She gave a bitter smile. “If the Sword Venerable wishes, all things in heaven and earth can be swords. How can you say you have no sword in hand?”
Shen Yirong angrily rebuked, “Shut up!”
The wind ropes binding Su Zhao suddenly tightened. Su Zhao let out a slight groan.
The gentle breeze forced her to look up, and Shen Yirong’s voice resonated from above. “Don’t you feel guilty?”
At this moment, Shen Yirong seemed somewhat fragile. The memories of the past were tormenting her; she was not as composed as she appeared.
Seeing Su Zhao’s silence, Shen Yirong continued, “We once agreed to meet every hundred years. You would teach me divination, and I would teach you dream entry and sword techniques.”
Shen Yirong suddenly laughed, pointing to her nose. “But wielding a sword and spear really isn’t suitable for you. You’d lose strength after just a few moves.”
“You said you were useless and couldn’t help us, yet to help us, you performed divinations regardless of the backlash.”
Shen Yirong smiled. “That was the first time I saw someone bleeding from all seven orifices. You scared us half to death.”
Shen Shuci couldn’t bear to listen anymore. She said with concern, “Host.”
“I’m fine.”
Shen Yirong took a deep breath. Perhaps due to her old injuries, she felt her body was unstable. She looked at the silent Su Zhao and said seriously, “As Shuci said, it’s not too late to stop now. I will help you get what you want.”
Su Zhao’s body trembled slightly. “After I’ve done so many unforgivable things, are you still willing to help me?”
Shen Yirong looked at her with cold eyes. “Don’t misunderstand. I haven’t forgiven you, and I’m not the only one you’ve hurt.”
“Stop now, and I’ll help you reassemble Wanxing’s soul. You know I’m strong.”
The person before her was a miracle creator, just as Su Zhao had said before.
Shen Yirong was the strongest monster of that chaotic era.
Shen Yirong saw that Su Zhao was not as resistant as before, seeming somewhat moved.
She continued to persuade her. “You actually can’t bring yourself to be ruthless, can you? If us monsters stick together, we can always figure out a possible solution.”
“So many years have passed. The people from back then have grown. There won’t be a time when we are powerless anymore.”
Shen Yirong’s voice was full of confidence, making people unconsciously believe her. She extended her hand to Su Zhao, just as she had many years ago. “So, stop now.”
A gentle breeze brushed her face. Su Zhao suddenly remembered the past. She had fallen into a muddy swamp after being caught in a demon cultivator’s trap, and the more she struggled, the deeper she sank.
In her panic, she thought she would die there, but she didn’t. Back then, Shen Yirong laughed and pulled her out of the mud, not minding the filth on her at all.
Memory overlapped with reality. The restriction of the wind ropes on her body relaxed considerably. She reached out her hand to Shen Yirong, just as she had in her memory.
Under Shen Yirong’s gaze, she forcefully clenched her hand, and the entire world began to change dramatically.
In an instant, the wind ropes that had bound Su Zhao appeared on Shen Yirong’s body instead.
Su Zhao chuckled softly. “Liar.”
Seeing that the person was about to be thrown into the cauldron again, Shen Shuci quickly separated countless gold threads to pull Shen Yirong away.
But in less than a second, her gold threads were severed.
The severed gold threads writhed twice on the ground, then melted and were absorbed by the earth.
Shen Yirong tried to summon the wind again, but her hands were bound by the very wind she had summoned.
This was Su Zhao’s home field; all efforts were futile.
Seeing that Shen Shuci was still attempting to act, Shen Yirong shouted, “Don’t move!”
“But!”
Su Zhao raised her hand, and Shen Shuci was also trapped by the wind.
Looking at Shen Shuci continuously hitting the wind barrier, Su Zhao remarked with a sigh. “You liar are truly likable.”
Behind her was the gurgling, bubbling cauldron. Shen Yirong found this scene very familiar. Although in danger, she showed no sign of fear.
Facing Su Zhao’s accusation, Shen Yirong’s expression remained calm. “You don’t believe me?”
Hearing the slight disappointment in Shen Yirong’s tone, Su Zhao felt speechless. She didn’t want to waste any more time, so she waved her hand and threw Shen Yirong into the cauldron.
Shen Yirong grabbed the edge of the cauldron, hanging onto the rim as she looked at Su Zhao. “Are you truly unwilling to turn back?”
Hearing this, Su Zhao extended her hand again. The flames beneath the cauldron burned more fiercely. The firelight reflected on Su Zhao’s face, and her voice was very soft. “If there truly was a way to reassemble the soul, why would you consider cultivating the emotionless Dao? You fundamentally cannot do it. Your words cannot be trusted.”
The water temperature was rising. Drowsiness crawled up her spine to her brain. This time, Su Zhao didn’t give her any chances.
Her vision blurred, unable to see Su Zhao’s face clearly. Shen Yirong laughed softly. “Then how much can your words be trusted, liar?”
The memories in her mind began to undergo a subtle change. The time she spent with Song Yin became fainter and fainter, while the image of Song Yin raising her sword to kill her became clearer and clearer.
She finally saw Song Yin’s eyes clearly.
She was angry, sad, and disappointed.
Shen Yirong also felt anger, due to being betrayed, being used, over and over again.
So, she relied on astonishing willpower to hold on, smiling at Su Zhao.
Su Zhao heard her laughter and looked up. “What are you laughing at?”
Shen Yirong sighed softly. “I’m laughing because you’re much harder to deal with than before.”
Su Zhao was momentarily stunned. She said calmly, “Without means, how can I be worthy of being your friend? I don’t intend to kill you. After Song Yin dies, you will return to your original place. The outcome of this world will no longer concern you.”
Shen Yirong bit her lip hard. The pain cleared her mind considerably. She chuckled softly. “You make yourself sound quite benevolent.”
The sarcasm was piercing. Su Zhao didn’t refute it.
Shen Yirong silently chanted Song Yin’s name in her heart, but her spiritual message was like a stone sinking into the sea.
Su Zhao was still gentle. “It’s no use. Song Yin can’t find this place.”
Shen Yirong was very sleepy, and her old injuries were flaring up. She conserved her strength and stopped provoking Su Zhao, observing her surroundings with her eyes.
The trapped Shen Shuci, the countless dolls above her head, the lost shell of Shen Shuci lying nearby, and…
Shen Yirong closed her eyes wearily. About to fall asleep, she started talking more. “How can this weak body of mine fight Song Yin? For the sake of our years of friendship, why not let me go?”
Seeing Su Zhao not answering, Shen Yirong started causing trouble again. She shouted, “What’s wrong with your fire control! It’s going to boil me!”
“Hey, can you hear me? Hiss! Are you trying to delete all my memories?”
“Speak! Why aren’t you speaking! Su Zhao, I truly misjudged you!”
Shen Yirong’s voice grew louder with each sentence. Su Zhao’s eyebrows furrowed tighter. She raised her hand to lower the flame and finally answered one of the questions.
“I will bring Bai Yuzan here to treat you.”
Shen Yirong, with her dwindling memory, became increasingly lively. “Ha? Bai Yuzan is in the Demon Palace. Are you joking?”
Shen Yirong supported her weary head and scrutinized Su Zhao. “Just you?”
Su Zhao was usually quite tolerant, but this was the first time Shen Yirong had questioned her ability. Her emotions fluctuated slightly. She said coldly, “Is there a problem?”
Shen Yirong mocked mercilessly. “You want to steal someone from the Demon Palace?”
Su Zhao’s expression became increasingly unpleasant but then returned to calm.
Shen Yirong’s behavior was very strange. She might have some scheme, or she might simply want to curse her out.
Afraid of falling into a trap, Su Zhao simply sealed off her hearing.
Seeing this, Shen Yirong smiled. She stopped shouting, allowing other sounds to become apparent.
It sounded like metal clashing, but the sound wasn’t clear. Besides that, there seemed to be the faint panting of a horse.
A wisp of faint Jue Qi (Curse energy) drifted over from an unknown source. It flew to Shen Yirong’s face, seemingly confirming something.
Shen Yirong smiled at it.
The curse energy retreated slightly. It flew in a circle above the lying body shell.
It seemed to confirm something. Then, the entire pseudo-world shook. This was followed by the cracking sound of space being forcefully torn apart.
Su Zhao nearly fell out of her wheelchair. Then, she felt a heavy yet familiar curse energy. Just smelling it nearly made her faint.
Shen Yirong looked up. A ray of sunlight streamed down from above. Something had punched a hole in this fake world.
Su Zhao’s expression sharpened. She controlled the fragmented area to re-gather.
Just as the area was about to close, a silver spear suddenly arrived, shattering the repaired section and revealing a much larger opening to the outside world.
The woman in silver armor reined in her two-headed horse, straightened her back, and withdrew her spear.
Then, she charged down again, the spearhead aimed directly at Su Zhao’s throat, moving too fast to react.
Two earthen spikes protruded from the ground, crossing to block Ling Minzhi’s spear.
The furnace fire was instantly extinguished. Shen Shuci also broke through the wind wall. She pulled Shen Yirong out of the cauldron.
Looking at the large hole above, the groggy Shen Yirong still didn’t forget to tease, “This is very similar to the All-Seeing Mirror.”
But the large hole was closing. If they were all trapped inside, the situation would be unfavorable.
Shen Shuci also understood. Looking at Ling Minzhi, who was struggling against Su Zhao, Shen Shuci shouted, “Cease fire! Run!”
Ling Minzhi immediately retracted her spear. She turned back, threw Shen Yirong onto the horse’s back, and then bent down, intending to take the body of her old friend.
But her current body was too stiff. Just as she was about to grab it, a vine snatched it before her.
The body shell fell into Su Zhao’s hands.
And the hole above was rapidly healing.
Ling Minzhi continuously dodged attacks. She wanted to retrieve the body shell, but she couldn’t get close to Su Zhao.
But there was no time left. She pulled the reins and rushed out before the hole closed.
Ling Minzhi seemed to have some magical artifact on her. After they came out, they performed several spatial jumps, instantly moving far away from the area where Su Zhao was.
Shen Shuci breathed a sigh of relief, but she felt awkward around Ling Minzhi, who was also visibly unhappy.
Seeing that Shen Shuci wasn’t speaking, Ling Minzhi kindly spoke first. “It was Immortal Master Song who helped me find you.”
Seeing the other party was amiable, Shen Shuci’s awkwardness dissipated. “Why didn’t she come herself?”
This wasn’t Shen Shuci being unreasonable; Song Yin usually handled anything related to Shen Yirong personally.
Ling Minzhi was downcast. “Look below.”
Shen Shuci finally noticed the ground below. She gasped.
Across the ground, the number of evil spirits already outnumbered the living.
They were cultivators in life, so their power couldn’t be underestimated. They were greedily sucking the life force out of the world.
Ling Minzhi’s voice was filled with despair. “Immortal Master Song is defending the Southern Territory and can’t leave for the moment. The other territories, including the demon territory, have not been spared. The Western Territory is the hardest hit.”
Shen Shuci was usually indifferent to this world, but the sight of the misery below made her close her eyes in distress.
Ling Minzhi cleared the ghosts along the way, but these things were like weeds; they would grow back after being removed.
Shen Shuci helped with the clearing, but without a body, she was still somewhat powerless.
A refreshing breeze blew away the stench in the air. Shen Shuci looked in surprise at the now-awake Shen Yirong.
“Host, do you still remember me?”
Shen Yirong nodded. She was very serious at the moment, but beneath her stern expression was a few traces of subtle sadness.
Shen Shuci’s joy subsided accordingly.
How could she not be sad when a former friend turned out this way?
Shen Shuci wanted to offer some comfort, but when she looked again, Shen Yirong had already calmed down.
After a gust of wind annihilated an evil spirit, Shen Yirong let out a light breath. “Go, don’t look back.”
