Reborn as a Human Cauldron, But I'm the Top - Chapter 100
Chapter 100: Vinegar Jar – Not Needed
It was a strange thing that after escaping Su Zhao, Shen Yirong followed Ling Minzhi south to the Southern Territory.
By the time Shen Yirong realized this, she was already on the soil of the Southern Territory.
Shen Yirong recognized some of the evil spirits causing trouble; some were even those she had killed previously.
Shen Shuci emerged from her sleeve, suspended in front of Shen Yirong, her voice dejected, “I can’t contact Him.”
As a friend, Shen Yirong understood Su Zhao. What she intended to hide wouldn’t be easy to find.
Shen Yirong’s heart was also in turmoil. Although this world was very fragile, with the Heavenly Dao present, the world still had rules. Without the Heavenly Dao, this place would descend into complete chaos.
Shen Yirong patted Shen Shuci’s head. “It’s alright, let’s think of another way.”
The situation in the Southern Territory was much better than in the Eastern Territory, harmonious as if it hadn’t suffered any disaster. Many Demon Palace disciples were patrolling, and upon seeing an evil spirit, they would step forward to clear it.
These clearers included both demonic cultivators and spiritual cultivators, who would respectfully greet Shen Yirong upon seeing her.
Shen Yirong’s lingering prejudice couldn’t withstand their enthusiasm, and she managed a slight smile despite her usual cold face.
Ling Minzhi was not a talkative person. She looked at the fractured space in the sky, from which evil spirits and demonic beasts occasionally fell, and couldn’t help but lower her eyes.
Shen Yirong noticed her emotion. She recalled Ling Minzhi cared greatly about the body shell Su Zhao had taken. Shen Yirong asked, “Is that someone very important to you?”
Ling Minzhi nodded. She looked at Shen Shuci, seemingly transported back to Central Yue four hundred years ago. “The country I belonged to suffered a similar disaster in my lifetime. My King sacrificed herself to save the country from the demon scourge. Immortal Master Song was still weak then, but she tried her best to do something for people like us, who were not important.”
The other’s voice was very hoarse, making this conversation difficult to have. Shen Yirong felt like she was helping Song Yin garner good feelings.
Song Yin had mentioned this part, but briefly. Shen Yirong released her spiritual sense to record everything around her. While contemplating a solution, she was still curious about Song Yin’s past. “What was she like then?”
“Very serious, very proper, like a child pretending to be an adult.”
Song Yin in her youth? Shen Yirong was quite interested.
After surveying the surroundings, Shen Yirong’s brows furrowed deeply. She calculated that the peace here was likely due to Song Yin’s forceful suppression, much like the formation at Nine Heavens Sect.
If that formation were perfected, it could use a magical artifact as the core, or a person as the core.
This degree of suppression made Shen Yirong feel uneasy.
With the space rules in chaos, their speed was already fast enough. Ling Minzhi praised Song Yin all the way, but Shen Yirong had no mind for listening. Her mind was occupied with how to retrieve the Heavenly Dao, or if that was impossible, how to use something else to temporarily maintain the world’s stability.
Ling Minzhi then returned to talking about her King. She said sadly, “But this time, maybe no one needs to make a sacrifice.”
Shen Yirong patted her shoulder to comfort her. “It’s alright. Things are different now. You and I are not the same as before.”
“Lord Shen!”
A lively, familiar voice sounded. Shen Yirong looked up and saw Yao Ling, who was charging towards her, holding two red hammers.
Shen Yirong looked at Yao Ling’s face. She vaguely remembered her as someone from the Nine Heavens Sect. Judging by her liveliness, she was the younger sister.
Before Shen Yirong could figure it out, she saw several other people: one with dark circles under her eyes, one snake demon, one mentally unstable person, and one puppet.
And a woman with dimples was smiling at her.
Qi Wu stepped past the others and bowed to Shen Yirong. “Lord Shen, the Venerable has been waiting for you for a long time.”
Shen Yirong glanced around, dismounted, and said, “Alright.”
The person leading her was not Qi Wu but an unfamiliar disciple. Shen Yirong followed behind the person, hearing the crowd behind her argue.
Qi Wu put on the air of the Grand Protector. “I am the eldest; I will go.”
Yao Ling disagreed, waving the weapons in her hands. “Shut up, Qi! I was with Nine Heavens before, so it’s more appropriate for me to go.”
Li Xiu acted as the mediator. “Protectors, don’t be rash. Let’s discuss this properly.”
The Second Protector nearby opened her eyes. “It’s best if I go. The situation there is dire, and with my highest cultivation, I can stabilize the situation better.”
The Fourth Protector played with the flames in her hands, smiling broadly. “That place is so dangerous now; why not let me go? She’s just a madwoman; it doesn’t matter if she dies.”
“Nonsense!” several voices exclaimed in unison.
The friendly discussion then turned into a more intense argument. The Fifth Protector weakly raised her hand amidst the chaos. “Me.”
Unfortunately, her voice was drowned out by the increasingly loud arguments. Seeing no one paid attention, the Fifth Protector silently withdrew her hand.
The guiding disciple sighed helplessly. “They are just like that. Please don’t mind them, Lord.”
Shen Yirong shifted her gaze forward. “No, this is good.”
It was so good that Shen Yirong dared not look back. She once had such a group of friends who cared for each other, but now some were dead, some were not like before, and some had outright become enemies.
Shen Yirong told herself again, Don’t look back.
The sound of arguments became increasingly faint, finally disappearing.
Shen Yirong was led to Song Yin’s secluded chamber. The disciple wisely left, and the cave entrance automatically opened.
Shen Yirong calmly walked in. There seemed to be more than one person inside the chamber.
Soon, she heard Bai Yuzan’s voice, sounding utterly distraught. “Are you insane?”
Song Yin’s voice was unhurried. “Of course, why else would you be here?”
Bai Yuzan was choked for a moment, then became even angrier. “You’ve ruined yourself so badly; six million won’t even fix it!”
Song Yin remained calm. “This Venerable has plenty of spirit stones.”
Bai Yuzan shrieked. “What do you know! This isn’t about spirit stones at all!”
Shen Yirong heard Song Yin’s voice sounding quite robust. Still worried, she quickened her pace to enter the room.
Bai Yuzan, worn out by the patient, looked at Shen Yirong as if she were a savior. With a face that looked like her essence had been sucked dry, she said excitedly, “You’ve come at the right time. Hurry and persuade your disciple. If she keeps this up, you’ll be widowed.”
Shen Yirong glared at the talkative Bai Yuzan, then sat down at Song Yin’s bedside.
Song Yin’s face was covered in crimson patterns at this moment, a sign of inner demons taking hold.
Shen Yirong was immediately panicked. Song Yin on the bed reached out to her, and she grabbed her hand.
So cold.
Shen Yirong immediately took her pulse. Her expression changed instantly. “How could your spiritual meridian be depleted?”
Bai Yuzan said angrily, “What else could it be? This one used her own spiritual energy as a sacrifice to forcefully sustain the entire Southern Territory.”
Shen Yirong’s mind went blank. Song Yin’s face was flushed, and even the arm Su Zhao had injured that day had recovered. From the outside, it only looked like a simple onset of inner demons.
Song Yin squeezed her hand, seemingly wanting praise. “Master, praise me.”
Looking at Song Yin’s face, covered in thorny patterns, and her bright, sparkling eyes, Shen Yirong felt a lump in her throat.
“You did very well.”
Song Yin smiled upon receiving the praise. After the smile came deep exhaustion, as if she had been holding on, finally satisfied enough to fall asleep only after hearing that one sentence.
Even asleep, Song Yin didn’t let go of Shen Yirong’s hand.
Shen Yirong, whose body had not yet recovered, transferred her own spiritual energy to Song Yin, but this was merely a drop in the bucket.
Bai Yuzan sighed in relief. She reached out to take Shen Yirong’s pulse. Now calmer, she wasn’t as frantic as before.
However, after taking Shen Yirong’s pulse, her eyebrows furrowed tighter and tighter, looking like she was about to scold someone.
Shen Yirong quickly said, “Thank you for saving me.”
Bai Yuzan’s anger was instantly extinguished. Thinking of what Shen Yirong had endured, her concern outweighed her anger. “You’ve saved me so many times. If anything, I owe you.”
Shen Yirong looked at Bai Yuzan, who looked much older than she remembered.
Feeling the atmosphere was too heavy, Shen Yirong chuckled and teased, “Why don’t you call me ‘Troublemaker’ anymore?”
Bai Yuzan withdrew her hand, giving the sleeping Song Yin a cold look. “Someone is an advanced vinegar jar. I’m afraid of a medical dispute.”
The vinegar jar was asleep and couldn’t hear.
This noisy, lively feeling brought some relaxation to Shen Yirong’s heavy heart.
Her expression turned serious. “Can you heal my body?”
Bai Yuzan’s eyes flickered. “The me right now, yes, I can.”
Shen Yirong breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good. Tell me about the current situation.”
Seeing Shen Yirong’s worried face, Bai Yuzan shook her head and sighed. “Right now, all the immortal sects are barely holding on, and the demon territory is too. The consensus after discussion is to use the formation at Nine Heavens Sect for defense.”
Shen Yirong immediately thought of the drawbacks of this method.
The entire layout of the Western Territory was designed for the formation; the mountains, rivers, and all aspects existed for that formation, allowing it to exert maximum power.
But using this formation in other places, with different terrains, could only create a simplified version that wouldn’t last long.
And the Nine Heavens Sect had not yet recovered from the last catastrophe and couldn’t sustain it for long either.
Furthermore, Song Yin was already this exhausted, let alone the others.
Shen Yirong immediately said, “This is improper. Passive defense cannot outlast Su Zhao.”
“It can.”
Bai Yuzan repeated firmly, “It can.”
Shen Yirong raised an eyebrow. “How so?”
Bai Yuzan looked at the ground, her voice soft. “Because Su Zhao’s lifespan won’t be long, a month at most. Given her recent reckless behavior, that time will likely be shortened.”
Bai Yuzan covered her eyes with her hand, a slight smile spreading across her lips. “Why do all my patients love to act recklessly?”
Shen Yirong didn’t know what to say. She asked a question to shift the focus. “She can’t be killed. The harm she sustains will be borne by some living creature in this world.”
Bai Yuzan released her hand. “But human processes like birth, aging, sickness, and death seem to be outside her scope of ability. Song Yin fought her; this is Song Yin’s guess.”
Shen Yirong was silent for a moment. She looked at Song Yin on the bed. The other was sleeping soundly, likely dreaming good dreams.
According to Bai Yuzan, they only needed to endure this one month.
Afterward, they could find a way to locate Su Zhao’s body, use the Memory Extraction Technique to retrieve her memories, and find the Heavenly Dao.
Shen Yirong couldn’t think of this method for now. She started to consider where she should help after she recovered.
Shen Yirong accepted the plan. “How long will it take for me to fully recover?”
“One month.”
Shen Yirong could hardly believe her ears. “Huh?”
She immediately became serious again. “Stop joking.”
Bai Yuzan shook her head. “I’m not lying to you, it’s just one month. Don’t be angry. Besides, all the major forces have people working, especially the Southern Territory. You can rest.”
Shen Yirong was unaccustomed to not being needed for the time being.
She looked back at the weakened Song Yin.
For some reason, she felt like it wasn’t that simple.
