Rebirth: Using Love as an Excuse for Cruelty - Chapter 16
Baiqing Meng was not an only child. He had an older brother who was two years older and a younger sister who was one year younger. However, when it came to being pampered, Baiqing Meng was definitely the most spoiled child in the family.
He had a beautiful face and was fairly smart. His only real flaw was his personality, which had been ruined by his family’s indulgence.
When he first met Yu Linfei, Baiqing Meng could still hide his character flaws. He pretended to be generous and never made a scene over small things. But as time went on, he couldn’t keep it up.
Once Yu Linfei started spoiling him too, Baiqing Meng fully revealed his true colors.
He was not only moody but also very difficult. He couldn’t stand anyone getting close to Yu Linfei, even friends Yu Linfei had known for years. In his eyes, Yu Linfei could only belong to him—past, present, and future.
So, he began using every method possible to push away Yu Linfei’s friends. At first, he hid his actions because he was afraid of making Yu Linfei angry. But later, when he saw that Yu Linfei didn’t react much, he stopped hiding. He started doing it openly. In his mind, Yu Linfei was already so charmed by him that the man had lost his own judgment.
As for Yu Linfei, it would be a lie to say he wasn’t annoyed watching Baiqing Meng’s behavior. However, at that time, he still had a bit of interest in Baiqing Meng. He also knew those small tricks didn’t really do much, so he let Baiqing Meng be. In his eyes, it wasn’t so much like dating as it was like raising a pet that liked to cause trouble. But Yu Linfei had limits. Once someone crossed his line, not even the gods could make him change his mind.
Yu Linfei had two major deal-breakers: one was Baiqing Meng cheating, and the other was Su Weixi.
When Yu Linfei saw the recording of Baiqing Meng cheating in his own home, he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Looking at his lover who acted pure in front of him but was screaming in bed with someone else he surprisingly felt no anger. Instead, he had a funny thought: This cheating really lacks any professional skill.
So, Yu Linfei rested his chin on his hand and watched the recording like a movie. Afterward, he slowly took out his phone and called the unsuspecting Baiqing Meng. He said directly, “Let’s break up,” and hung up. How would Baiqing Meng react? Yu Linfei knew without even thinking. This boy, who had never faced a setback, would definitely go crazy. But what did that have to do with him? Yu Linfei looked out the window at the yellow leaves falling, feeling nothing. If you break the rules of the game, you have to pay the price.
Later, things went slightly beyond what Yu Linfei expected because he underestimated Baiqing Meng’s persistence. The boy could not accept being dumped so suddenly. Having been treated like a prince his whole life, how could he accept being broken up with? He searched for Yu Linfei everywhere, even going to his company.
This madness only ended when Yu Linfei finally made a phone call. He asked casually, “Baiqing Meng, was it fun being with that person in my house?” Baiqing Meng was stunned on the spot.
In his memory, Yu Linfei was a gentleman who didn’t even use bad words. But now, he was asking such a blunt question. What did this mean?
With a twisted sense of confidence, Baiqing Meng concluded it meant Yu Linfei cared about him deeply. Yu Linfei only treated him this way because the cheating had broken his heart!
With this excuse as comfort, Baiqing Meng was even less willing to let go. He knew how hard it was to find a man who took care of him in every way, especially a man who “loved” him so much.
Sometimes, blind confidence is the source of tragedy. Obsessed with the idea that Yu Linfei still loved him, Baiqing Meng didn’t notice Yu Linfei’s disgust. Or perhaps he did notice but subconsciously ignored it.
It’s funny how it works: the more you care about someone, the less they value you. But when you throw them to the back of your mind, they come crawling back to find you. This kind of person can usually be described with one word—shameless.
Baiqing Meng took this to the extreme. When they were dating, he didn’t really respect Yu Linfei. He was young and had many choices. To him, Yu Linfei was just one of many pursuers; the only difference was that Yu Linfei was “higher quality” than the others.
But that thought changed the moment Yu Linfei asked to break up. What you can’t have is always the best. Being dumped for the first time turned Baiqing Meng into someone who begged for a second chance. Would Yu Linfei agree? Of course not, unless he had lost his mind.
Both of them had started the relationship as a way to pass the time, but by some twist of fate, one of them took it seriously. Yu Linfei found the whole situation laughable.
If it were the old Yu Linfei, he might have given in. He knew Baiqing Meng’s interests only lasted for a short time. If he satisfied him, the boy would quiet down, and they could break up later without any drama.
But now, Yu Linfei didn’t plan to do that. Knowing that what happened to Su Weixi involved Baiqing Meng, and seeing how his little Xiao Hei had been bullied, Yu Linfei decided to turn up the heat on Baiqing Meng.
Sometimes, Yu Linfei was very protective.
After feeding Wen Cheng until he was full, Yu Linfei held the cat in his arms and called Baiqing Meng.
When Baiqing Meng answered, his tone was full of excitement. He asked happily, “Linfei, what’s wrong?”
Yu Linfei glanced at the clock on the wall and said calmly, “Baiqing Meng, come over to my house.”
Baiqing Meng agreed without a second of doubt.
It was almost midnight. Because Wen Cheng had slept so much during the day, he wasn’t sleepy at all. He lay in Yu Linfei’s arms with his eyes narrowed, enjoying the scratches while listening to the conversation.
To be honest, he didn’t know why Yu Linfei was calling Baiqing Meng over so late. Although he had a wild guess in his mind, he didn’t dare believe it.
Would Yu Linfei really fight with Baiqing Meng because of him? Wen Cheng thought the chance was too small to even hope for.
But Yu Linfei was thinking of something else. He gently touched Wen Cheng’s wet little nose and smiled. “Xiao Hei was bullied. Should I get revenge for you?”
“Meow?” Wen Cheng tilted his head at Yu Linfei, curious about what would happen next.
“I’ll help you bully him back.” Yu Linfei gave a sly smile, looking like a child about to pull a prank.
“Meow.” Wen Cheng licked Yu Linfei’s finger, starting to look forward to Baiqing Meng’s arrival.
Twenty minutes later, Baiqing Meng knocked on the door, covered in snow. His face was pale from the cold, but he was smiling happily because he thought Yu Linfei wanted to get back together.
Yu Linfei didn’t say much and opened the door. He just held Wen Cheng and watched Baiqing Meng walk in.
“Did you come to my house today?” Yu Linfei didn’t sit next to him. Instead, he sat on the opposite sofa.
“Ah.” Baiqing Meng was stunned, then explained, “Yeah, I came to copy some files. Why?”
“Besides copying files, what else did you do?” Yu Linfei’s voice wasn’t angry; he just asked calmly.
“Oh, I played with your cat,” Baiqing Meng replied. “Linfei, didn’t we agree on getting a dog? Why did you suddenly bring home a cat? Cats never learn who their master is and they’re too high-maintenance. Give him away and let’s get a dog, okay?”
“Baiqing Meng.” Yu Linfei smiled gently. Then he said, “You really, really make me feel sick.”
“What?” Baiqing Meng didn’t understand for a moment.
“If I had to choose between a cat and you, I’d rather keep the cat.” Yu Linfei’s expression was still gentle. “If I keep you for too long, I’m afraid I’ll be too disgusted to eat.”
“What are you talking about!!! Yu Linfei, how can you speak to me like that!!” Baiqing Meng’s face turned white with anger. He was furious but couldn’t find the words to fight back. After all, besides Yu Linfei, who had ever said such mean things to him!
“Let me give you a little gift,” Yu Linfei said, suddenly changing his tone.
“Yu Linfei, don’t think you can say such mean things and then fix it with some stupid gift!” Baiqing Meng said harshly, his eyes turning red with anger.
“Here, a limited-edition video.” Yu Linfei pulled out a new disc and handed it to Baiqing Meng.
“Why are you giving me this? Are you crazy!” Baiqing Meng’s first reaction was to throw it on the floor.
“Are you sure you want to throw it?” Yu Linfei’s words made Baiqing Meng freeze. He heard the man, who was usually so gentle, say something that made him go cold. “The star of the video is you.”
“What did you say…?” Baiqing Meng was completely stunned.
“I said,” Yu Linfei repeated patiently, “The star is you.”
“Yu Linfei, you!” Baiqing Meng was both angry and scared, and his whole body began to shake.
“You can take it home and watch it. If you’re not satisfied, I have other versions.” Yu Linfei said calmly, “I’ve given it to you. You can go now.”
“Yu Linfei!!!” Baiqing Meng screamed his name, nearly crying.
“Wait.” Yu Linfei suddenly seemed to remember something. He said, “I have one more thing to ask you.”
