- Chapter 17 - Those Who Bully the Kitten—Die
Baiqing Meng glared at Yu Linfei, waiting for his next words. He thought to himself that if Yu Linfei said one more thing to provoke him, he would rush forward and punch him!
Yu Linfei, however, acted as if he didn’t see that Baiqing Meng was about to lose it. He stroked the agitated Wen Cheng in his arms and said calmly, “What did you do to Su Weixi?”
“Huh?” Hearing Su Weixi’s name, Baiqing Meng froze. A flash of panic appeared on his face, but he quickly suppressed it, pretending not to understand. “What happened to him?”
“Baiqing Meng.” The smile vanished from Yu Linfei’s face. His voice didn’t waver, but to Baiqing Meng, it sounded cold and heartless. He said, “I have no interest in threatening people, but that doesn’t mean I lack the ability. Tell me what you did to Su Weixi, or I can’t guarantee I won’t do something to you.”
“I said I didn’t do anything!!!” Losing control, Baiqing Meng screamed, his voice almost cracking into tears. “Yu Linfei, you’re a psycho! How can you slander me like this!”
It seemed whatever Su Weixi encountered was truly serious. Yu Linfei frowned slightly, seeing how Baiqing Meng refused to speak even now… Could Su Weixi have offended someone?
Seeing Yu Linfei’s silence, Baiqing Meng became even more anxious. He yelled directly at him, “Don’t think you can do anything just because you have that recording of me! Yu Linfei, I’m telling you, if you dare release that video, I’ll never forgive you!”
Yu Linfei said expressionlessly, “You won’t forgive me? Will your father forgive you?”
“You!” Hearing Yu Linfei mention his father, Baiqing Meng’s face turned even paler. It was true—even though he lived a wild life outside, he never dared let his father find out. Unlike his mother and older brother who spoiled him blindly, if his father saw the disc Yu Linfei recorded, he would be whipped to death by the old man!
“If this really has nothing to do with you, then forget it.” Yu Linfei completely ignored Baiqing Meng’s breakdown. He looked at him with cold eyes and said indifferently, “But if I find out it was related to you… Baiqing Meng, I will make you regret it thoroughly.”
“Su Weixi went looking for trouble himself!” Baiqing Meng finally couldn’t hold it in any longer. He shot a hateful look at Yu Linfei. “Yu Linfei, are you being reasonable? He went to a bar himself and offended someone he shouldn’t have. What does that have to do with me!”
“Someone he shouldn’t have offended? Who?” Yu Linfei’s eyebrow arched.
“How would I know who it was!” Facing the questioning, Baiqing Meng looked annoyed. “This matter has nothing to do with me from start to finish. Yu Linfei, can you stop blaming me for everything? I’ve told you everything I know. If you dare use that recording to threaten me again, don’t blame me for turning against you!”
Yu Linfei didn’t reply. In fact, he felt Baiqing Meng was lying.
With Su Weixi’s mild personality, he would offend someone dangerous? That was even harder to believe than the idea that his cat was actually a person. Besides, the guilt in Baiqing Meng’s eyes was suspicious, and most importantly Su Weixi had once suggested that Yu Linfei and Baiqing Meng should break up.
For a gentle friend to say such a thing, would Yu Linfei believe what happened to Su Weixi had nothing to do with Baiqing Meng? But he knew he wouldn’t get more answers today. Looking at the frustrated Baiqing Meng, his usual smile returned to his face.
“Baiqing Meng.” Yu Linfei suddenly spoke.
“What…” Before he could finish the word, Baiqing Meng was stunned by a glass of cold water thrown directly at his face. His mouth hung open, unable to understand what had just happened for a moment.
“The locks on my house have been changed,” Yu Linfei said calmly. “Because I don’t want to come home and find my cat hiding under the sofa after being soaked with cold water. Do you understand?”
“Yu Linfei, what are you doing!!!” Recovering from the shock, Baiqing Meng finally burst into tears. Not even 20 years old yet, he couldn’t process being splashed with cold water like this. Moreover, Yu Linfei’s reason was just for a cat—a cat that had been here for less than a week!!!
“Mhm. You can leave now. Do you need me to call a taxi for you?” Yu Linfei’s gentlemanly smile couldn’t hide the malice in his eyes. After seeing Baiqing Meng soaked, the anger in his heart from seeing Wen Cheng bullied finally faded a little.
“Yu Linfei, you bastard!!” Crying, Baiqing Meng pushed the door open and ran out. He even forgot to take the disc on the coffee table. It was clear just how angry he was.
“…Truly like a woman. Why did I ever like him?” Yu Linfei watched Baiqing Meng’s back and murmured to himself, then turned his gaze to Wen Cheng, who had been watching the show.
He reached out and lifted Wen Cheng up to his face, smiling. “How was that, Blacky? Feel better now?”
“Meow-woo.” Wen Cheng did feel much better.
“Gosh, dating him isn’t nearly as good as dating my little Blacky. Come, big brother give you a kiss.” After finishing his joke, Yu Linfei planted a kiss on Wen Cheng’s milk-scented little mouth. Ignoring the struggling cat, he said, “Oh? Are we shy now?”
Yu Linfei, you pervert! Psycho! You’re a lunatic who won’t even leave animals alone! Suddenly attacked, Wen Cheng’s fur stood up as expected. He meowed loudly, trying to scratch Yu Linfei with his paws.
“What’s wrong with a little kiss? Blacky, why are you so stingy?” Yu Linfei said, acting as if he were the one being mistreated, as he squeezed Wen Cheng’s fleshy paws.
Am I someone you can just kiss! No way! Wen Cheng gave a scornful huff and struggled out of Yu Linfei’s hands.
“…So, you’re all better?” Seeing Wen Cheng holding his little head high with a proud look, Yu Linfei felt helpless. “You were just sleeping so weakly, why are you so energetic now? Blacky, you wouldn’t be faking being sick, would you?”
“Meow-woo-meow!” You’re the one faking it! I just have a fast recovery time, okay? You have no experience and no vision, hmph! Wen Cheng’s expression remained very scornful.
“…Oh, you’re really getting into it now.” Yu Linfei checked his watch. “It’s late… time for bed. Blacky isn’t fully recovered yet, so you need to be a good boy and rest. Otherwise, you’ll have to go to the hospital for a shot.” As he spoke, he patted Wen Cheng’s round little butt. “The shot goes right here.”
“…” Wen Cheng was speechless. Why hadn’t he noticed before that Yu Linfei could be so creepy?
“Alright, no running around. If something happens again, big brother will be angry.” He pulled Wen Cheng into his arms and walked into the bedroom to sleep…
The soft big bed felt very good. Having slept on it before, Wen Cheng knew the quality of Yu Linfei’s mattress. He was wrapped in a thick blanket by Yu Linfei, with only his fluffy face showing, looking exactly like a stuffed toy.
Of course, Wen Cheng didn’t know how cute he looked right now. He used the time while Yu Linfei was showering to try and figure out the situation—Yu Linfei threw a whole glass of cold water for him? Feeling a bit restless, he started grinding his teeth on the blanket. Gosh, does Yu Linfei really like cats that much? But that doesn’t seem right. He remembered when they were lovers, they never had big disagreements over cats… He was allergic then and had only seen a cat Yu Linfei raised once… wait, what did that cat look like?
He tried hard to remember the cat Yu Linfei once had, but found he had no memory of it at all. He had to sigh. As someone allergic to cat hair, why would he have bothered to remember a random cat?
Something still felt wrong to Wen Cheng, but he couldn’t quite catch the thought.
When Yu Linfei came out from the shower, he saw his cat deep in thought. Wrapped into a ball of fur, the kitten stared with watery golden eyes and a serious expression, looking like he was pondering something very important. However, the fluffy face made the serious scene look incredibly funny.
…He couldn’t be thinking about how to climb the fridge again, could he? The thought popped into Yu Linfei’s head, and he felt a deep sense of helplessness.
“Blacky. What are you thinking about?” Yu Linfei lay down next to him, his face close to Wen Cheng’s. His voice was full of interest as he pinched the tip of Wen Cheng’s ear.
Hmph, you wouldn’t understand even if I told you, you stupid human! Wen Cheng turned around and pointed his back at Yu Linfei not realizing he had completely stepped into the role of a cat.
Being looked down upon by his cat again, Yu Linfei felt even more helpless. He couldn’t exactly pull him out of the blanket for a beating, could he? Besides, it was too late he had to work tomorrow.
“Forget it, I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” Yu Linfei whispered, closing his eyes.
…Yu Linfei is asleep. Sensing the person behind him had gone quiet, Wen Cheng sniffed. He was determined to figure out everything tonight!
Hmm… but the blanket is so warm… hmm… my eyelids are so heavy… okay, just a quick nap, then I’ll wake up and keep thinking…
And then? Then there was no “then.” A snoring Wen Cheng had no time for sad feelings.
Wen Cheng proved with cold hard facts: eating and sleeping are always a cat’s greatest enemies.
