- Chapter 8 - Yandere No. 1
“Fine, fine, I’m going! Stop pushing me—ow!” Still bickering with Li Ruoruo, Fang Yu failed to look where she was going and slammed her forehead right into the doorframe.
The hands that had been shoving her retracted instantly. Li Ruoruo tucked them behind her back, looking every bit like a child who had just caused trouble.
“Is, is your head okay?” The doorframe was solid wood; Li Ruoruo remembered once accidentally stubbing her toe against a desk and needing nearly ten minutes just to recover.
“It hurts! It hurts so much!”
Li Ruoruo’s guilt surged, completely erasing any memory of how Fang Yu had been teasing her moments ago. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pushed you.”
“It’s okay. It’ll feel better if Ruoruo rubs it.” Fang Yu touched her forehead, her suggestion thick with intent. Unconsciously, she let slip a bit of the “playful flirt” energy that the original owner of this body had been known for.
To her surprise, Li Ruoruo who had spent weeks hiding in her shell actually reached out. She gently stroked Fang Yu’s hair like she was soothing a ruffled kitten. After four or five strokes, she pulled back quickly, clearly wary of Fang Yu’s unpredictable reactions.
“I rubbed it. It doesn’t hurt anymore, right?”
If it doesn’t hurt, then get lost! Stop staying here and making my head spin!
This time, Fang Yu left quite briskly, without any lingering. During the short walk back, her expression shifted from solemn contemplation to sudden bursts of laughter. She looked exactly like a teenage girl in love who had lost half her brain cells.
The System endured this as long as it could before finally jumping in to interrupt.
[Host, you were this close to completing the mission!]
Fang Yu snapped out of her daze instantly. “What? Didn’t I just start the mission?”
[Remember what I told you when we bonded?] the System reminded her.
Fang Yu nodded. “You said the mission is successful when the female lead falls in love with me again. But Li Ruoruo hasn’t yet.”
[Think again.]
Fang Yu frowned, and then a sudden spark of realization hit her. “You mean, the moment Li Ruoruo was writing that confession on the paper?”
[Exactly. As long as the female lead expresses her feelings to the host personally—whether spoken or written—it counts. We ‘Yandere Reformation’ Systems are very flexible.] The System didn’t miss the chance to praise itself.
After listening, Fang Yu felt like banging her head against a wall. Why hadn’t she just forced Li Ruoruo to finish writing? So much for being a “big boss” student; why did she let a school bell dictate her progress? Now look at this—a total disaster!
The System, sensing Fang Yu’s rising temper, didn’t dare say another word and scurried back into the depths of her consciousness.
Fang Yu sped up, turning a ten-minute walk into a four-minute sprint. She slumped into her chair with a heavy thud. The atmosphere in the classroom turned stagnant; no one dared to disturb her.
Only Duan Ming, who considered himself “Sister Yu’s” favorite lackey, plucked up the courage to strike up a conversation. His eyes inadvertently caught the marks on her neck.
“Sister Yu, your neck?”
At the mention of it, Fang Yu’s face softened into a surprisingly tender expression. “Got scratched by a little wildcat.”
“No way. I don’t remember any stray cats on campus?” Duan Ming scratched his head, doubting his own memory.
“Maybe you remembered wrong,” Fang Yu replied, her face perfectly serious. “Anyway, do you know any fun places in the city?” She had a feeling Duan Ming was an expert in the art of leisure.
Sure enough, Duan Ming puffed out his chest with pride. “Sister Yu, what kind of ‘fun’ are we talking about?”
“Somewhere a young girl would like to go,” Fang Yu mused. The original owner’s memories contained absolutely zero information regarding Li Ruoruo’s preferences. The previous version of herself had truly been a textbook “scumbag.”
“A young girl.” Duan Ming’s thumb paused on his phone screen. He looked at Fang Yu suspiciously. “Sister Yu, you aren’t planning a date with Li Ruoruo, are you?”
“What? Is there a problem?” A sudden chill radiated from Fang Yu, clearly showing her displeasure with his tone.
“No, no! It’s just unexpected.” Duan Ming didn’t dare argue. “If you’re taking Li Ruoruo, go to the new amusement park in the Jin District. The facilities are top-tier, plenty of thrilling rides, and most importantly, they host regular ‘Couple Challenges.’ I’ve been there with friends a few times. Five stars, highly recommend.”
Duan Ming flipped through his photo gallery to show her. Fang Yu looked through them; the decor was indeed charming, enough to make even her jaded heart flutter. As she scrolled, a photo popped up of Duan Ming with a girl, both of them making peace signs at the camera. Their happiness was palpable through the screen.
“Sister Yu, this is my little cousin. She’s really pretty, right? I wasn’t lying.” Duan Ming watched Fang Yu’s reaction closely.
Fang Yu felt a surge of bitterness. Was her “player” reputation really that hard to shake? This guy still hadn’t given up on setting her up with his cousin.
She realized she had to make her stance unmistakably clear. “Duan Ming, if you bring this up again, I’m going to lose my temper.”
“I’m laying it out right now: no one is touching Li Ruoruo. Not you, not anyone else. Don’t let me catch anyone having ‘ideas’ they shouldn’t have.”
Fang Yu’s voice was loud, and the classroom was silent. Her words reached every ear without missing a syllable. Most students remained quiet, silently deciding to be extremely polite whenever they encountered Li Ruoruo in the future.
However, Liang Si sat nearby, her nails digging into her palms. She had been interested in Fang Yu since the start of school. Hearing that Fang Yu liked the “glamorous” type, she had meticulously crafted a bold, beautiful image just to catch her eye.
Yet Fang Yu had cycled through one girlfriend after another—some less pretty than her, some with worse figures and it never seemed to be her turn. When she heard Fang Yu was dating the plain, quiet Li Ruoruo, she thought her chance had finally come. But after being rejected once before, Fang Yu’s declaration today shattered the last of her delusions.
Realizing he’d overstepped, Duan Ming pivoted immediately to salvage his standing. “Sister Yu! You and Li Ruoruo should go this weekend. The Couple Challenge only happens then. I’ll book the tickets for you right now!”
He didn’t mention his cousin again.
