Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 51
Chapter 51: Can’t Sleep Without a Hug.
“Change hotels for what? Don’t you like this mattress?” Mo Yingxue cast a strange look at her.
“Huh?” Yue Lei was even more confused now. She leaned closer to her wife: “Aren’t you unhappy because the water pressure in the bathroom is too low?” She couldn’t very well admit that she was angry because her wife told Ms. Z they were just friends, as that would expose her hidden identity.
Mo Yingxue had no idea how to resolve the irritation in her heart. She just wanted to be far, far away from this hurtful woman.
Mo Yingxue gave Yue Lei a long look, then simply stood up and walked away, conceding the spot to her: “Your hair is dripping. Don’t sit near me.”
Yue Lei now knew her wife wasn’t angry about the hotel facilities. She wanted to press for answers, but with her hair still wet, getting closer would only make things worse. Her wife this lifetime was much gentler; in the previous life, she would have simply slapped her away.
“Okay…” She meekly walked to the vanity, picked up the hairdryer, and was about to blast it haphazardly, wanting to finish quickly so she could figure out the cause of her wife’s anger. But out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mo Yingxue watching her from the bed, and she immediately became compliant, remembering her wife disliked her being so rough with her hair. So, she resigned herself to picking up the hair mask and slowly applying it to her hair.
Mo Yingxue had planned to let Yue Lei grovel a little more before giving her an out, once she realized she was upset.
But this woman, who had talked about it so many times yet never properly cared for her hair, was now taking the unprecedented step of doing a hair treatment.
Watching her dawdle there only frustrated Mo Yingxue more, and she didn’t want to say anything to her. She slid under the covers, intending to check her phone for a bit and then sleep.
Yue Lei was blow-drying her hair as fast as she could, but she had thick hair that was permed to be very voluminous. It took a lot of effort to get it to a half-dry state. Yue Lei powered through for a bit longer before daring to climb into bed.
Her wife seemed to have fallen asleep while scrolling, glanced at her, yawned, and then turned her back. Yue Lei shamelessly hugged her from behind, trying to drape her leg over her wife while grumbling: “Xiao Xue, don’t be unhappy. We finally made it out to travel, why be unhappy?”
“Don’t touch me. Go to sleep. It’s hot here; don’t start sweating again,” Mo Yingxue kicked her away distastefully, absolutely refusing to let her hug her while sleeping.
Yue Lei did feel that Fencheng was a bit more humid and hot than Southwest City, but she really didn’t want to let go of her wife. Feigning ignorance, she got up to find the air conditioning control: “It’s hot? Then I’ll turn the A/C down a bit.”
The cool air blowing over made Mo Yingxue even crankier. So, she started being unreasonable, wiggling her body and angrily kicking Yue Lei’s leg away: “You’re too heavy. Don’t hug me, I’m very sleepy.”
Even a clay Buddha has some spirit. Being continuously rejected, Yue Lei’s little heart couldn’t take it anymore. She released her wife, feeling utterly empty in her arms: “Why are you angry? Is it my fault or the environment’s fault?”
When Yue Lei really let go, Mo Yingxue felt unaccustomed. She bit her lip with her back to Yue Lei, then honestly spoke: “Neither. It’s my fault.”
Hearing this, Yue Lei heaved a sigh of relief and gently asked: “Is your period coming soon? Are you feeling irritable?” Judging by the time, it was close.
Mo Yingxue hummed: “Maybe. I’m not sure.”
“Then I won’t bother you. Goodnight, Xiao Xue.” Yue Lei propped up her upper body with her elbow, leaned over, and placed a kiss on Mo Yingxue’s cheek, sounding very understanding: “Let’s get some good rest this time. Tomorrow, we’ll eat more warming foods and red meat, and you definitely won’t hurt.”
Her coddling words, like she was comforting a child, instantly melted away Mo Yingxue’s irritation. Even though she had been so difficult, Yue Lei was still so kind to her… Thinking rationally, telling the person on the other end of the network that she didn’t have a girlfriend didn’t really matter. As a streamer, one sometimes had to hide relationship status to make money, especially since Ms. Z was an ‘Love Big Sister’ who knew boundaries…
With that thought, she stopped feigning annoyance, turned around, and opened her arms to Yue Lei: “I can’t sleep without a hug now. Hug me.”
Unexpectedly, her wife’s mood had improved again. Yue Lei was overjoyed and immediately wrapped her in a hug like a koala bear. Once they were tangled up like a pretzel, all the annoyance seemed to vanish, and both their bodies and minds felt like they were back in their comfort zone.
The next day’s itinerary was a visit to the National Forest Park. Before leaving, Yue Lei worriedly asked: “Xiao Xue, is your period starting today? Maybe we should switch to an activity with less exercise.”
Mo Yingxue’s face flushed slightly: “I misremembered. It should be next week or the week after. By then, we’ll be pretty much home. It won’t affect our trip.”
“That’s good. Your body is too weak. You always get knocked down by your period, which breaks my heart. Unlike me, I’ve barely had any period pain my whole life.” Yue Lei felt she was a woman with strong vitality and was very proud of it.
The Forest Park was in the suburbs of Fencheng. Because the climate here was very different from Southwest City, the common trees, shrubs, and flowers were unfamiliar. The two stopped and started, immediately searching for any unfamiliar yet interesting plants they encountered.
It seemed to have rained a little last night. Many parts of the ground were wet, and frogs and snails occasionally crossed their path. When they first saw an African giant snail the size of half a palm, they were terrified, unable to imagine a snail that large existed. But after seeing more of them, they realized it wasn’t a big deal. The larger snails were actually better, as they wouldn’t accidentally step on them.
Passing by a gigantic Voodoo Lily (Amorphophallus), Yue Lei clicked her tongue in wonder: “Xiao Xue, stand here, I’ll take a picture of you!” Mo Yingxue glanced at the dark red flower, which was ridiculously large but neither beautiful nor artistically valuable. She truly didn’t understand why anyone would want a commemorative photo with it.
However, Yue Lei was overly excited: “Hurry, hurry! People are waiting in line! I’ll take your picture first, and then you take mine!” Mo Yingxue was shy and couldn’t possibly argue with her in public. She could only stand straight in front of the Voodoo Lily and force a stiff smile.
“Aish, Xiao Xue, you’re still too stiff in front of the camera. Never mind, no time to waste, my turn.” Yue Lei handed the camera to her wife and struck many poses in front of the flower.
One moment, she pretended to be a strong woman lifting the entire flower with one hand; the next, she used the flower as a Leaning Tower of Pisa to prop herself up against it; then she struck a chūnibyō expression and pose, making the flower look like a ghostly guardian behind her…
After Yue Lei finished taking photos, she checked the pictures and praised them with satisfaction: “Good thing I wore Zhang Zhenni’s wig today. After some editing back home, they’ll be perfect.”
Zhang Zhenni had two hairstyles: hip-length black straight hair and a high ponytail.
Compared to her other colorful-haired characters, these were easier to blend in with the public. Since Yue Lei was still a tourist out to have fun, she was worried about being too overly dressed and attracting attention, so she didn’t wear exaggerated cosplay makeup or red contacts.
However, these facial details could all be edited in post-production; she’d just pay Fang Dan to handle it all.
She lectured her wife knowledgeably: “Xiao Xue, look, the more uninhibited you are when taking photos, the better the result. Your ‘standing post’ pose is just too touristy.”
Mo Yingxue liked taking pictures of people, trees, cats, and the sky, but she especially disliked taking pictures of herself. She always felt awkward, and she wouldn’t even look at those photos a second time anyway.
But Yue Lei seemed determined to teach her wife photography. When they turned a corner to a flower wall with hardly anyone around, she got excited. The deep red and light red quince flowers spread like spiderwebs, clinging to the moss-covered blue brick wall—primitive, beautiful, and full of vitality. It was a rare and beautiful backdrop!
She cheered: “Xiao Xue, stand in front of that cluster of flowers, I’ll take your picture!”
“I don’t want to. You go, and I’ll take yours.” Even with no one around, Mo Yingxue’s resistance was obvious.
“No!” Yue Lei pouted and stated emphatically: “We came out to play together! If I check the camera later and all the photos are of me and none of you, how can that be right? And it’s your camera!”
She changed tactics, put the camera away, and opened her phone’s selfie mode. She pulled Mo Yingxue, forcing both their faces into the frame.
Yue Lei looked at her with expectant, puppy-dog eyes: “Since you don’t want to be photographed alone, then take one with me. I want to save many, many memories of us traveling together. Okay?”
Since Yue Lei said that, refusing again seemed too deliberate. Plus, being able to see her own expression in the viewfinder made Mo Yingxue feel less awkward, and she relaxed considerably.
The two took many photos and videos in front of the flower wall, including various couple poses like making a heart shape together, faked kissing, and mutual hugging. Seeing them enthusiastically taking pictures, other tourists seemed to realize this was a good spot for photos. Several groups of people were taking selfies on the various high and low steps.
Only after they finished taking photos did Yue Lei realize the crowd had grown considerably.
One elderly woman was trying to make her clumsy husband form a heart shape with her, leaving both of them flustered and unable to capture the essence of the pose. Without a doubt, these people were inspired by them, using Yue Lei’s eye for beauty to discover this beautiful flower wall.
She winked at Mo Yingxue and pulled her to continue exploring other places.
It wasn’t until dusk that the two reluctantly walked out of the park gates, which were starting to light up.
Yue Lei looked back at the lush green trees not far away and couldn’t help but sigh: “The Forest Park is really huge. There’s so much oxygen here. I feel like my breathing is so smooth. People really need to get closer to nature!”
Mo Yingxue was about to respond.
The next second, the girl dismissed her melancholy thoughts: “Are we definitely having that crab pot tonight? I’m going to call for a reservation now.”
Mo Yingxue smiled helplessly: “Make the reservation. Is that place near Fencheng University? Ask Lin Zhixi if they want to come.”
“I’m not calling them.” Yue Lei had her own plan: “I’m going to do a mukbang live stream to pad my streaming hours.”
Hearing this, Mo Yingxue instantly tensed up. She had left her other phone at the hotel when she went out today!
Ms. Z hadn’t watched Yue Lei’s live stream several times, and the time she threw a huge gift in the smoky rose stream was already dug up by everyone.
If Yue Lei was stood up again… Would she be sad…?
