Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Do Your Own Thing.
On the second day of their arrival in Fencheng, the two went to visit the flower market.
This was an insistence by Yue Lei: “Duan Xiyu’s dog-show must have ruined your love for flowers, and I absolutely can’t let that happen!”
Mo Yingxue wanted to say that she wasn’t that fragile; at most, she would avoid women with tanned skin who drove Hummers and went to the gym, but she didn’t have any ill feelings toward flowers.
However, she remembered how Yue Lei saw all those flowers in the trunk from a distance and even thought Duan Xiyu had proposed and she had accepted. If they didn’t cleanse her impression of flowers, Yue Lei’s little heart definitely wouldn’t be able to handle seeing so many flowers again. Mo Yingxue agreed to the trip.
Fencheng truly lived up to its name as the City of Flowers; the flower market was completely different from what they had imagined.
The variety of flowers was vast and colorful, with every stall displaying fresh blooms. Each shop was a riot of color, and the employees often wore flowers, making it feel like they had entered a new country composed of blossoms and fragrance.
Yue Lei was extremely happy wandering around, taking photos as she walked: “Xiao Xue, the flowers here are so cheap! I never knew I could buy so many multi-headed roses for just $9.90!”
Mo Yingxue was also in a light mood, sipping her milk tea: “The environment here is suitable for growing flowers. Even just sprinkling some seeds will make them grow more luxuriantly than elsewhere.”
“I want to buy everything I see, but we can’t carry that much,” Yue Lei already had five bouquets in her arms, but she still wanted so much more, and her tone was clearly frustrated.
Yue Lei was an imperfect woman, but her imperfections were what Mo Yingxue genuinely liked.
Hearing her words, she curved her eyes: “Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Let’s buy more when we go back to Southwest City. Our house is big, and what we have is enough to decorate the hotel room.”
Yue Lei understood the logic and sighed: “Okay, let’s go back, drop off the flowers, and then go find some good food.”
“Hold the flowers; I’ll take some photos of you,” Mo Yingxue suggested as they were about to leave the flower market.
Yue Lei didn’t suspect a thing and followed obediently.
As Mo Yingxue was snapping photos, Yue Lei realized something was off and her voice became aggrieved: “Xiao Xue, why are you only taking pictures of my hands and the flowers? You only took two photos of my face and then stopped?” Her face was her pride, her asset. Was Xiao Xue tired of looking at it?
“Change your pose.” Mo Yingxue snapped two more shots.
Seeing that Yue Lei was pouting so much her mouth could hang an oil bottle, even while posing nicely with her hands, she laughed softly: “I’m taking photos for Zhang Zhenni’s travel content. You don’t like posting updates and usually keep the photos to yourself. But since we’ve made the effort to travel, we should leave a trace online.”
“Oh, I didn’t even think of that!” Yue Lei hadn’t considered the idea herself and became even more cooperative: “Take more, take more! I should have brought her wig. That way, my face could also be featured.”
Mo Yingxue felt like Tomoyo taking photos of Sakura at that moment. She chuckled: “I guarantee that once today’s post is up, Sakura will personally mail you a wig.”
As expected, Yue Lei’s eyes immediately lit up: “I truly didn’t think of that! We can make a Zhang Zhenni travel vlog special! Xiao Xue, you’re so thoughtful!”
After taking photos, she excitedly pulled Mo Yingxue back into the flower market, saying it was for the sake of: “Since we’ve decided to post a vlog, we definitely need to record more video footage.”
Mo Yingxue stopped her, her black, grape-like eyes fixed on her, her tone serious: “You can go back in for another look, but no more buying flowers. We can’t carry any more.”
Yue Lei scratched her head and continued to pester her: “Hmm… just one more bouquet. Let’s buy one and record the transaction process, and then that’s it! Absolutely no more!”
After posting to Weibo, Sakura exclaimed in surprise.
Sakura: “Aaaah, I thought you were going to stop updating because you were traveling! This is amazing! I get to see my darling on her trip!”
Sakura: “You have a new transfer, please check.”
Sakura: “I transferred $10,000 for travel expenses. Please try skydiving and paragliding! They’re very popular in Fencheng. I’ll never be able to, but Zhang Zhenni would definitely love both of those sports!”
Sakura: “I’m sending you two outfits suitable for Zhang Zhenni to wear while traveling. They should arrive tomorrow or the day after. Wear them if you think they fit, but don’t worry about it if it interferes with your trip.”
The next day, the items hadn’t arrived yet, and the weather was gloomy and overcast, suggesting possible rain. In short, it wasn’t suitable for visiting the forest park they had planned. The two decided to stay in the city, browsing museums and local landmarks.
Yue Lei used to think museums were boring, filled with old things that had faded into the river of time, only adding to modern people’s sadness.
But visiting the Fencheng National Museum this time, she discovered that experiencing and understanding history was an incredibly interesting affair.
It was completely different from the few simple pages in a textbook. Seeing the actual pots, bowls, clothes, and popular trinkets used by people long ago made it easier to connect with the ancients and feel the flow of time.
She stood thoughtfully in front of a glass case and said to Mo Yingxue beside her: “This girl who died young must have been dearly loved. She was buried with so many sets of clothes and a variety of toys, and they even used so many metal objects.”
Mo Yingxue nodded, squeezing her hand: “Yes, I’ve never seen such grave goods before. Ancient medical standards were poor; a child so young could easily die from illness. Even with her family’s wealth, they couldn’t save her life.”
When Yue Lei was sad alone, that low mood would spread. But when someone beside her was even sadder, she would actively cut off her own sorrow and turn to comfort the other person.
She squeezed Mo Yingxue’s palm: “It’s not like that now. Most diseases can be cured. The times are progressing and developing. Should we buy some cultural merchandise? I bet there’s a souvenir of that girl’s rattle drum.”
Arriving at the cultural merchandise store, Mo Yingxue watched with a dark line forming between her eyebrows as Yue Lei picked up a shopping basket.
A few small figurines, a few bags with ancient patterns, decorations, accessories, hairpins, hair ornaments, stationery, notebooks, postcards… She was a veritable spending prodigy, buying everything she saw. She was only halfway through the store, and the basket was already full.
Mo Yingxue couldn’t help but ask: “If you buy so much, will your suitcase fit it all?”
Before Yue Lei could answer, the nearby salesperson replied: “No need to worry, ma’am. Everything can be mailed. I can send packages nationwide from here, and your purchases are already enough for free shipping.”
Sure enough, Yue Lei’s eyes lit up: “That’s right! If I can’t carry it, I’ll mail it. Give me another basket. I need to pick out some things for Aunt Wang and Sakura too.”
Mo Yingxue could only offer a wry smile: “Fine, buy whatever you want.” It wasn’t the money she was worried about, but the difficulty of carrying it all, and the problem of where to put it back home. Just consider it a contribution to the local tourism economy, and a thank-you for creating such a wonderful museum.
When checking out, Yue Lei absolutely refused to let her pay, declaring confidently: “Most of these are for Zhang Zhenni’s account to use. Some will be given away after the Fencheng vlog is released, and the rest will be given away when the short drama starts filming. King Sakura is paying for everything!”
With that said, Mo Yingxue couldn’t insist on paying. But a strong sense of crisis arose in her heart. That night, back at the hotel, she seized the opportunity while taking a shower to sneak Ms. Z’s phone into the bathroom.
Mo Yingxue turned on the shower, listening to the sound of the running water. She then sat on the side and messaged Yue Lei.
Z: “You’re in Fencheng traveling! That’s a fun place. Have a good trip.”
As expected, Yue Lei was lying on the bed playing with her phone and instantly replied.
Yue Lei: “Yes! We went to the flower market yesterday. It’s a paradise for flower lovers! If I lived here, I’d go to the flower market every day!”
Z: “I was there for a business trip before. I was so busy I didn’t get a chance to look around. Can you show me what it’s like?”
Yue Lei: #Image#, #Image#, #Image#
Yue Lei: “These are just quick snaps. I’ll post a vlog on the Zhang Zhenni account later. You can come watch if you’re interested!”
Mo Yingxue raised an eyebrow, cropping the third picture to show her own hand.
Z: “Who is this? A friend you’re traveling with?”
This time, Yue Lei paused before replying.
Yue Lei: “Yeah, she’s my good friend. We’re traveling together. Traveling alone would be too lonely!”
Inside the bathroom, Mo Yingxue’s face instantly darkened. Didn’t we agree to be girlfriends while we were out of town, to announce we were a couple? They were clearly still in Fencheng, standing on Fencheng soil, using Fencheng internet. Why, when facing her ‘Love Big Sister,’ was she suddenly just a good friend…?
The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became, instantly losing the desire to chat. She turned off the phone, took off her clothes one by one, and started showering.
Outside, Yue Lei, sprawled across the bed, was still enthusiastically sharing her daily life with Ms. Z, accidentally sending a whole screen full of messages. Seeing no reply, she guessed Ms. Z might have gotten busy and ended the conversation.
After a while, her wife finished showering and came out wearing a bathrobe. Yue Lei rushed over happily, a hair-drying cap in her left hand and hair mask in her right. Like a maid preparing to serve a young lady, she spoke in a fawning tone: “Xiao Xue, let me help you dry your hair.”
To her surprise, Mo Yingxue stepped back, avoiding her approach. She held up the hairdryer: “I’ll blow-dry it myself. You go take a shower.”
Yue Lei simply thought Mo Yingxue wanted to dry her hair quickly. She didn’t suspect anything and continued to cling to her: “Okay, but you have to help me apply the hair mask later! I always struggle to spread this stuff evenly.”
Mo Yingxue still refused. She sat down at the vanity, her back to Yue Lei: “I’m a little tired today. I want to rest early. Do your own thing.”
This time, Yue Lei genuinely realized her wife was ignoring her. But she racked her brain and couldn’t figure out why she was angry. When she stood under the showerhead, she thought she knew the reason. The water pressure in this hotel was too low, the stream was weak and slow. Showering was very unpleasant, completely unlike the hotel they had booked yesterday.
Yue Lei quickly finished showering, briefly wiped herself, and rushed out in her bathrobe. She sat next to Mo Yingxue, staring intently at her. When Mo Yingxue finally frowned slightly, she spoke: “Xiao Xue, don’t be mad anymore. We’ll change hotels tomorrow!”
