Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 49
Chapter 49: This is My Girlfriend, Mo Yingxue.
“CEO Yue herself is even better looking than in the videos!”
“Is the girl next to her an assistant? She’s gorgeous too!”
“Stop talking, stop talking, they’re coming over.”
It was summer vacation. Two friends who had previously gone hiking and watched the live stream together had gone home, leaving Lin Zhixi, Cong Die, Xiao Tang, and Xiao Jing at the university. As soon as Lin Zhixi announced Yue Lei’s arrival in Fencheng, they all came to meet her.
Since Mo Yingxue had already agreed to act as her girlfriend while they were out of town, Yue Lei introduced her confidently while holding her hand: “Hello everyone, I’m Yue Lei, and this is my girlfriend, Mo Yingxue.”
Hearing this, Mo Yingxue looked down and smiled.
With this official display of affection, the group instantly started cooing: “Oh, oh, oh, so this is our sister-in-law! So pretty! A great beauty with a different style from CEO Yue!”
Yue Lei led Mo Yingxue to a seat, smiling broadly at everyone: “Thank you, thank you. Have you ordered yet?”
Lin Zhixi shook her head: “No, we’ve been waiting for you two.”
“Why wait for us? We’re from out of town; we have no idea what’s good to eat in Fencheng.” Yue Lei nudged Lin Zhixi under the table with her foot: “You guys order. This meal is on me.”
Compared to her, everyone present was still a student and didn’t have much money. Since the meal was a welcome for her, it should naturally be her treat. This made Cong Die and the others even happier.
Cong Die raised her hand and made a rectangular banner shape in the air: “CEO Yue Fan Meet-up! CEO Yue, fly high! We’ll follow forever!”
Yue Lei had seen her in the previous life when she was already in a wheelchair, constantly depressed, and spoke to everyone with fear in her eyes. Being reborn and seeing Lin Zhixi’s friends still vibrant made her genuinely happy.
Perhaps she stared for too long, as Mo Yingxue and Lin Zhixi both turned their heads—one out of curiosity, the other with a direct glare. Lin Zhixi tossed the open menu to Yue Lei to divert her attention: “I’ve ordered some dishes. Take a look and see if you want anything else!”
“Are eight dishes enough for six people?” Yue Lei looked up and counted the heads.
Lin Zhixi bared her teeth at her: “Totally enough! The portions here are large. Let them serve these first, and we can order more if we need to.”
Yue Lei nodded, her eyes no longer wandering: “Okay, then add a plate of romaine lettuce. Eating more vegetables is healthy and doesn’t fill you up too much.”
The taste in Fencheng was different from the Southwest City; here it was more sour and spicy, while the Southwest favored savory and spicy. Regardless, she and her wife enjoyed the meal very much.
After eating and drinking to their fill, Yue Lei pulled up the travel plan she had prepared before leaving: “Here, ladies, please take a look at my plan and tell me what you think. And please recommend some good food and accommodation near the attractions.”
Xiao Tang and the others took her phone: “All the places you want to go are highly recommended tourist spots in Fencheng, but your timing is off. Why separate Lover’s Beach and the Flower and Bird Market when they’re so close?”
Cong Die laughed: “Yeah, and on the third day, you listed two mountains. Do you two have stainless steel knees to endure that kind of torture?”
Yue Lei was slightly embarrassed and scratched her head: “I was thinking of climbing up and taking the cable car down.”
Xiao Jing had already taken out her phone to edit a new route for her: “You still can’t put them on the same day. According to this schedule, the cable car on the second mountain would already be closed by the time you climbed up. We’ll help you fix the timetable. Is there anything you absolutely must do on a specific day?”
Yue Lei was more than happy for their help and shook her head immediately: “We’re just here to travel, and it’s a leisure trip with plenty of time. We don’t need to rush any activity. We’ll follow whatever changes you make.”
Mo Yingxue chimed in: “I’d like to set the mountain ranch for the last day.”
“That works, it’s closer to the airport anyway.” Lin Zhixi looked up at them: “So, should we meet again on the second-to-last day of your trip? On the last day, you can just stay at the ranch; the air there is fantastic, a natural oxygen bar. We’ll keep in touch in the meantime. There are some places I haven’t been to, so we can go together. Hiring a car will be easier too.”
“Sounds good.” Both Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue readily agreed. They had enjoyed enough alone time at home. When traveling, the more people, the merrier. For ordering food alone, two people could only order four dishes at most, forcing them to make painful choices to try different cuisines. But with more people, they could sample many more dishes!
After paying the bill, Cong Die gave Lin Zhixi a look. The latter understood, quietly pulled Yue Lei aside, and nudged her with a smirk: “Yue Lei, when did you and Xiao Xue start dating? Why didn’t you say anything? Are we still friends or not!”
Mo Yingxue didn’t avoid them. Hearing the question, she couldn’t help but smile, blinking her obsidian eyes, eager to see how Yue Lei would explain.
Yue Lei forced herself to answer: “Didn’t I tell you before that I found a job with really great benefits?”
“You did mention that,” Lin Zhixi recalled.
Yue Lei took Mo Yingxue’s hand, her cheeks flushed: “Xiao Xue is my employer. We were destined to be strangers, but she threw money at me.”
Lin Zhixi was drinking water and nearly choked: “Are you serious? Xiao Xue is so beautiful and comes from such a good family. She chose you?”
Feeling Yue Lei scratching her palm, her expectant eyes resembling a begging puppy—a large to medium-sized one, like a Bernese Mountain dog—Mo Yingxue gave her face by nodding: “That’s right. Initially, it was just a cold financial transaction, but as we spent time together, I found she was actually quite nice and very caring. We naturally ended up together.”
“Are you still in an employer-employee relationship now?” Lin Zhixi was even more curious.
Yue Lei didn’t answer. Mo Yingxue pulled her head into her embrace: “Of course. I’m the rich woman, and this is my toyboy.”
If a person with strong self-esteem were called that, they’d definitely be upset or act unbothered while secretly seeking validation elsewhere. But this was Yue Lei.
Right now, she was secretly thrilled that her wife was publicly hugging her—this was the first time she’d done so in front of others. Her body was so soft and smelled so good.
She smirked playfully at Lin Zhixi: “You don’t understand. No one can love a person forever, but everyone loves money forever. I have no shame in living off Xiao Xue, so our relationship will be eternal!”
Lin Zhixi glared at her, filled with envy and frustration: “You really lucked out, girl! I have no idea how Xiao Xue fell for a shameless pest like you!”
She felt happy for her good friend finding happiness but couldn’t help thinking about her own long and difficult path in love. She and Cong Die were both only children from ordinary families.
Although they weren’t together yet, her persistent slow-boil approach was strengthening their relationship. If they ever did get together, the financial pressure, family pressure, and social pressure… With several mountains weighing down on them, she genuinely wondered if their relationship could survive.
Cong Die and Xiao Tang came back just then: “What pest? Why are you talking about the Little Carp Adventure?” They were carrying bags of local snacks and put them all on the table.
Yue Lei curiously examined the bags: “Hahaha, Lin Zhixi called me a pest. I’m a pest, I’ll stick to Xiao Xue.”
“You two have such a good relationship. Xiao Xi, the single one, must be so envious,” Cong Die smiled, opening a bag and introducing them: “This bag is local fruit. I knew you wouldn’t know how to pick them, so I bought everyone’s favorites. The place you’re staying should have a fridge; you can put the leftovers in there.”
Xiao Tang spoke up: “This bag is specialty snacks: rice balls, chicken feet, and things like that. These don’t taste good if they sit too long, so don’t eat out today, finish these instead.”
Xiao Jing handed two drinks with straws to Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue: “As friends, you treated us to dinner, and this is our return gift. Try this fruit nectar; it’s really good.”
“Thank you, thank you.” Yue Lei was overwhelmed; she hadn’t expected any reciprocation. Having navigated the business world for so many years, every meal was a reciprocal treat, and it was hard to track who paid more or less. She had to admit that students had strong boundaries.
They had just been treated to dinner, and now they had found a way to return the favor. This feeling of clearly separating friendship and money wasn’t bad at all.
Yue Lei took a sip of the chilled fruit nectar. It was light, sweet, and tangy with a pleasant aftertaste—truly nice.
“It’s a bit hot now. We plan to go back and rest, then walk by the river this afternoon. Do you want to join us?”
The university students exchanged glances and then nodded: “Sure, sure. We’re bored on summer break anyway. Since there are a lot of us, we can play cards together.”
“Then let’s just go to a board game café,” Yue Lei declared decisively. “You find a place. We can’t finish all these snacks anyway, so we’ll bring them along.”
They spent a pleasant afternoon at the board game café, and their relationships deepened. Xiao Tang took a call; her roommate had returned to the dorms and forgotten their key, and was now bombarding her with calls. She reluctantly excused herself from the group.
Cong Die looked out the window. The temperature wasn’t as hot anymore, and tourists could start strolling around again.
She suggested: “Then let’s all head back together. Four people can easily share a taxi. CEO Yue and Xiao Xue rarely visit, so don’t just stay inside with us playing games. You should walk around and see the sights when you travel.”
Xiao Jing and Lin Zhixi both agreed.
After seeing them off, Yue Lei held Mo Yingxue’s hand in one and the uneaten food in the other, planning to drop them off at the hotel before going out again. Walking on the unfamiliar street, even though the surroundings were new, her mood was more peaceful and tender.
Yue Lei’s hands were full, so she gently nudged Mo Yingxue with the side of her head. The latter turned, looking at her with confusion, wondering why she did that.
Yue Lei thanked her sincerely: “Xiao Xue, thank you so much for adopting me.”
“Why ‘adopting’?” Mo Yingxue chuckled softly, seeing that she wanted to talk.
Yue Lei pouted: “The day you found me was truly the lowest point of my life. Without you, I really don’t know what I would have done.” She was carrying her suitcase, putting on a brave face as she walked, but inside, she was lost and worried. She was homeless, with nowhere to go, and no money in her pocket. It was arguably the most miserable time of her two lives combined, in the past and present.
Mo Yingxue curved her eyes: “That’s why people should go out for a walk more often. For a great beauty like you, even flowers are snatched up quickly.”
