Pregnant With the Villain Boss’ Baby - Chapter 26
Yun Mu had been drifting off on her lounge chair, the warmth of the sun and the soft music lulling her into a peaceful haze. She had just taken a sip of tea and let out a weary yawn, debating whether to fully commit to a nap or head inside to avoid the discomfort of her mask.
Then, the peace was shattered.
“Whoa! It’s the neighbor! Wow, what a beauty!”
The sudden shout made Yun Mu bolt upright in a panic. The sharp, sudden movement triggered a cramp in her calf, and she hissed in pain, clutching her leg. She looked up, eyes flashing with annoyance at the intruders.
The Big Boss? Yun Mu huffed inwardly. Talk about bad luck. She glared at Lu Fengxu, but then realized the voice she’d heard was male. Looking past the General, she saw a strikingly handsome man with golden hair and eyes like the sea.
Wait… Yun Mu’s mind raced. The book said the Big Boss was a loner who kept everyone at a distance except for her ignored fiancée. But look at this guy! Is he her lover? Is the General’s “purity” just a cover because she has… unconventional tastes? She felt like she’d stumbled upon a massive piece of gossip.
Lu Fengxu, meanwhile, was spiraling. She could feel Yun Mu’s strange gaze jumping between her and Lu Huan’an. She was certain they had ruined the Omega’s mood. Her anger toward her brother flared; she wanted to drag him to the training room and pummel him.
Huan’an, oblivious to the danger, was staring at Yun Mu with wide eyes, stroking his chin. “Sis, don’t you think she looks like that star on TV? The one— AGH!”
Lu Fengxu had delivered a crushing stomp to his foot. Huan’an let out a blood-curdling scream, hopping around on one leg.
Yun Mu blinked, watching the scene in bewilderment. What kind of drama is this? I only closed my eyes for a minute; did the world change?
“I’m sorry. We disturbed you,” Lu Fengxu said, turning to Yun Mu.
“Ah, it’s fine,” Yun Mu replied with clear detachment. Apology accepted, now please go inside.
But her wish went unfulfilled. Hearing her voice, Huan’an forgot his pain and lunged toward the fence. “Are you— are you actually—”
Before his hands could touch the railing, Lu Fengxu grabbed him by the collar from behind. Yun Mu watched as Huan’an’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head and his tongue lolled out; he looked like he was about to faint.
Lu Fengxu let go, and he collapsed to the grass with a heavy thud.
“…Is he still alive?” Yun Mu asked, rubbing her forehead. She felt like she was witnessing a crime scene.
“His vitality is high; there is no need for concern,” Lu Fengxu replied instantly. She snapped to a perfect military posture, her back straight and her eyes shimmering with a faint hope that Yun Mu would keep talking to her.
Yun Mu: Is it just me, or does the ‘Big Boss’ seem a little… dorky? Like a big dog trying to please its owner. Must be my imagination.
A heavy silence followed. Lu Fengxu tucked her hands behind her back, nervously gripping her left wrist with her right hand to steady her shaking. She opened her mouth and asked in a low, raspy voice, “So… why are you… outside today…?”
Before she could finish the sentence, Huan’an let out a pathetic groan. Lu Fengxu’s fists clenched, her knuckles popping, as she saw Yun Mu’s attention shift back to her brother. She deeply regretted not knocking him unconscious earlier.
“Cough… hack… You’re the Goddess Yun, aren’t you? I’m a huge fan!” A trembling hand reached up from the grass. Huan’an’s pale, shivering face appeared, staring at Yun Mu with sparkling blue eyes.
Seeing him so “victimized” by the General, Yun Mu felt a twinge of pity. She realized that since they lived next door, she couldn’t hide forever. She reached up and unhooked her mask, offering a smile.
“Hello. I’m Yun Mu. Nice to meet you.”
“Whoa! It really is her! Sister, it’s the Goddess! I’m Lu Huan’an! It’s an honor!” He scrambled to his feet, dusting himself off and bowing deeply with a brilliant grin.
“Lu Huan’an…?” Yun Mu’s brow furrowed. The name was hauntingly familiar. Gold hair, blue eyes, Alpha, Lu… Her eyes widened. Wait, this is the male lead!
She hadn’t focused much on the protagonist’s name in the book, but those specific features were his trademark. And he shared a surname with the Big Boss. Wait, if he’s her brother, then…
“Ahem. Huan’an, don’t you have things to do?” Lu Fengxu’s voice was dripping with jealousy as she saw Yun Mu studying him.
“Eh? I don’t—” Huan’an started, then saw the murderous glint in his sister’s eyes. He swallowed hard. It was a choice between his idol and his life.
“I’ll tell Rose,” Lu Fengxu said flatly, not caring that she was resorting to “tattling.”
Huan’an was horrified. Sis, where is your integrity? Where is your dignity?! He finally whispered, “I… I do have things to do! Goddess Yun, let’s talk next time! I’ll bring a notebook for an autograph!” He bolted without waiting for a reply. Sorry, Goddess, I value my life—and my fiancée!
Yun Mu: What a weirdo.
“Aren’t you leaving?” Yun Mu asked, turning back to Lu Fengxu.
“I…” Lu Fengxu felt a wave of dejection at the immediate dismissal. She desperately scanned the area for a topic to stay longer. “Do you… enjoy sunbathing?”
“It’s okay.”
“Do you have the day off?”
“Yes.”
“The snacks look good.”
“They are.”
“Did you brew the tea? It smells nice.”
“Thank you.”
The conversation was agonizingly dry. Lu Fengxu felt a bead of sweat on her forehead; leading a military campaign was easier than this.
Then, her eyes landed on Yun Mu’s hand, which was still rubbing her calf. She remembered the way Yun Mu had flinched earlier. “Is your leg… hurting?”
“Huh? Oh… no, I’m—” Yun Mu had been nearly bored to sleep by the awkward chat, but the sudden question made her flinch. She tried to deny it, but Lu Fengxu had already narrowed her eyes. Before Yun Mu could react, the Alpha’s long legs had already cleared the fence.
“Hey! What are you doing? This is trespassing—” Her voice trailed off as Lu Fengxu stood over her. Even as a tall Omega, Yun Mu was dwarfed by the General, who stood at least a head taller.
Yun Mu tried to scramble back, but a large hand caught her shoulder. She turned her head and saw Lu Fengxu’s face inches from hers.
