Pregnant With the Villain Boss’ Baby - Chapter 25
“Haaa… so lazy…”
Yun Mu stood at the entrance of her villa and stretched. Since moving here, she had hardly stepped foot outside her own home. For some reason, today she felt a particular urge to go for a stroll.
She brought out some small snacks from the kitchen, brewed a pot of tea, and headed to the lounge chair in the small garden, placing everything on the round side table.
“Mm-hmm, not bad. The weather is perfect—just right for a bit of sunbathing.” She looked up at the sky; the sun was out but not scorching, and the temperature was moderate, ideal for relaxation.
She opened the sun umbrella and felt the lounge chair. It was rarely used, but Yang Chen cleaned it regularly, so it was free of dust. Gradually sitting down and leaning back, Yun Mu let out a sigh of pure comfort.
“A bit of music would make this even better.”
With a few taps on her comms device, melodic music began to float through the garden. Yun Mu squinted her eyes and popped a cookie into her mouth. Life was truly grand when one didn’t have to work; this was how a human was meant to live.
As a precaution, she kept her mask on unless she was eating or drinking. It was a hassle, but a little extra trouble was worth avoiding unnecessary complications.
Rarely alone at home with no one around, she listened to the gentle breeze rustling the leaves. Her heart felt peaceful, and the frustrations from work finally evaporated.
“If only every day could be like this. Bowing down for money is exhausting, but vacations are the best,” Yun Mu lamented.
While she was enjoying her leisure, on the other side of the planet, Lu Fengxu and Lu Huan’an were walking out of the local military headquarters.
Lu Fengxu’s expression was cold and stern. She strode directly toward the parked car.
“Hey, hey, Sis! What’s with you today? Bad mood? I thought you’d be much more relaxed since you’ve been spending so much time in the Cloud World lately. Why so serious today?” Lu Huan’an asked curiously, quickly hopping into the passenger seat for fear of being left behind.
True to his chatterbox nature, Huan’an kept pestering her with questions, seemingly never having learned his lesson about pushing her buttons.
Lu Fengxu shot him a silent, sideways glare. Her fingers tapped rhythmically on the steering wheel as she tried to shake off her inner restlessness.
She knew that because of a few “black sheep,” the person she looked forward to seeing every day was on leave and wouldn’t be logging into the Cloud World. She had prepared herself for this, yet the reality of not seeing her was far more agonizing than she had imagined.
Thinking about how her neighbor was probably desperate to avoid her only made her headache worse. What exactly am I supposed to do?
“Sis? Hey, Sis?” Huan’an called out a few times. Noticing that Lu Fengxu was just sitting in the driver’s seat—not starting the car, not speaking, just dazing—he couldn’t help but wave a hand in front of her face.
Smack. His hand was unceremoniously batted away.
“Ouch! That hurts!” Huan’an rubbed his palm, feeling utterly wronged. Why am I always the one getting hurt?
He turned and met Lu Fengxu’s displeased gaze. Knowing her as he did, that was the look of someone whose train of thought had been rudely interrupted.
He wanted to wail in frustration. How was he supposed to know she’d suddenly decide to ponder the meaning of life? Hadn’t she rushed to the car just now?
“Ahem, Sis, we should probably start driving,” Huan’an muttered, hoping to shift her focus away from him.
Lu Fengxu withdrew her gaze, not wanting to bicker with her foolish brother. She started the engine, and the car hummed as it sped forward. Her thoughts, however, immediately drifted away again.
What is she doing? She must be happy to have the day off. I really want to go see her… I wonder what I look like in her eyes. She always avoids me; she must really hate me. But in the Cloud World… if we could just live in the Cloud World forever, would that be better?
Deep in her romantic crisis, Lu Fengxu didn’t notice Lu Huan’an clutching the car door, screaming in terror.
“Sis! Whoa, Sis! Don’t space out! There’s a car! A car! Do you want to get chased by the police?!”
Huan’an felt like he was playing with his life today. The car was weaving in an ‘S’ pattern, nearly ran a red light, and avoided other vehicles with high-speed, dangerous maneuvers. The speed was comparable to a roller coaster. Huan’an felt that if he weren’t an Alpha, he would have fainted or vomited by now.
Just before they almost drove the wrong way into a one-way street, he finally grabbed Lu Fengxu’s sleeve and jerked the steering wheel. Amidst a chorus of honking horns, the car screeched to a halt in a temporary parking zone.
“What are you doing?” Her thoughts interrupted once more, and annoyed by the honking, Lu Fengxu frowned deeply, looking like she might punch him if he didn’t have a good explanation.
“My dear Sister, please! If you’re going to space out, don’t drive, okay? You might not value your life, but I don’t want to be crippled! I also don’t want to end up on the news for a soldier not knowing how to follow traffic rules. Drifting and speeding—it’s a suicide mission! If you don’t want to drive, swap with me. You can sit in the passenger seat and contemplate the universe all you want.”
Seeing the car finally stopped, Huan’an patted his chest and let out a long breath. He finally realized how beautiful stillness could be. His heart was nearly beating out of his chest.
“Let’s go.” Lu Fengxu gave him a silent look. She realized she’d been driving like a maniac subconsciously. But swapping seats was out of the question. Not only did she fear being photographed getting out of the car, but the idea of being in such close, cramped proximity with another Alpha made her skin crawl.
Lu Huan’an: …? Even though you’re not looking at me, I feel like you’re judging me!
“By the way, why did you say we need to do a thorough check on those elite families today? Isn’t that outside our military jurisdiction?” Huan’an decided that chatting was a better way to keep her grounded.
Lu Fengxu, whose priorities usually revolved around planetary security and pirates, had called her inner circle today to order a deep dive into those noble families. To put it bluntly, she was looking for dirt! Since when did Sis enjoy exposing people’s private lives?
“In certain matters, these families have become increasingly arrogant,” Lu Fengxu said slowly after a pause.
“Oh! That, I agree with!” Huan’an slammed a fist into his thigh in indignation. “Remember that guy last time? The one who was caught for assaulting several Omegas? I heard he just paid a fine and the whole thing was hushed up. He’s still out there doing whatever he wants. So many of these noble heirs have terrible character. They might hide it on the Capital Star, but they are incredibly arrogant on other planets. I’ve been annoyed with them for ages. But… since they’re the ‘inner circle’ of that person… even if we catch them, we can’t move against them too much.”
Huan’an sighed in frustration. Even though he was technically from a noble family himself, he despised the way those people acted like they were above the law—spending their days partying, bullying Alphas, and preying on Omegas and Betas. It was lawless.
Why weren’t they punished? In this Empire, there were two top powers: the Imperial Family and the Military. The Royals were supported by about half of the noble families, who provided the economic backing, while the Military provided the muscle. A balance was meant to be maintained.
Or at least, that’s how it used to be. For some reason, during a period of imperial instability, the Military had lost its edge and was often influenced by the Crown or the noble houses. This made management difficult, and they often had “parasites” forced into their ranks. It was a massive headache.
Huan’an had long hoped for a cleanup. If they held enough dirt on those families, could they still act so arrogant? He wanted to laugh at the image of them walking with their tails between their legs.
“Sis, I’ll make sure my guys dig three feet into the ground to find everything!”
Watching Huan’an go off into his own little world of revenge, Lu Fengxu ultimately said nothing. She’d let it remain a beautiful misunderstanding.
The car drove smoothly and was soon parked. She shut the door and walked toward the villa.
“Huh? Is that music?” Huan’an’s ears twitched. He looked around in surprise. Lu Fengxu’s eyes, however, immediately locked onto the source of the sound. Could it be…?
Ignoring Huan’an’s calls, Lu Fengxu instinctively quickened her pace. As she reached the entrance of her villa, she slowed down. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to move forward; it was that she didn’t want to break the peaceful moment of the person before her.
An Omega was lying languidly on a lounge chair. Her bright red skirt and hair drifted gently in the breeze. Her pale arms were relaxed at her sides, and her slender fingers were interlaced over her stomach. Her fair calves hung slightly off the chair, swinging back and forth.
Even her dainty feet, with their rounded toes peeking out from the shadow of the umbrella, seemed to sparkle in the sunlight.
It was beautiful—as beautiful as a painting. If it weren’t for that annoying mask, Lu Fengxu would have considered it perfect.
But even with the mask, Lu Fengxu recognized her instantly. She pursed her lips, wanting to use her comms to record this rare sight. But just as her finger moved to the screen—
“Whoa! It’s the neighbor! Wow, what a beauty!” Lu Huan’an’s exclamation, followed by a light, flirtatious whistle, rang out.
And with those words, the beautiful moment was shattered.
