Pregnant With the Villain Boss’ Baby - Chapter 24
“Good. This scene is a wrap.”
Yun Mu took a sip of her warm tea, her gaze lingering on Gu Mi’er in the center of the set. Over the past few days of observation, she noticed that despite the “accident” with the hot tea, Gu Mi’er and her manager had acted as if they didn’t even know that Beta.
Yun Mu wasn’t surprised. Gu Mi’er wasn’t a “spoiled brat” in the sense of being a fool; she was the type whose head was filled with malicious schemes. From the looks of it, she probably pulled stunts like this often. Yun Mu truly wondered what kind of family the Gu house was to raise a daughter like this.
Oh, right. Didn’t Feng Cen say they grew up together? It was strange how Feng Cen turned out the way he did while Gu Mi’er grew up so… crooked.
“Ahem. Yun Mu, why do you keep staring at me?” Feng Cen noticed her appraising gaze and asked in a low voice, clearing his throat.
“Just thinking about how hard you have it,” Yun Mu replied with a “figure it out yourself” smile before looking back down at her script.
I have it hard? How? Feng Cen rubbed his face, confused, until he saw Youying—sitting right next to Yun Mu—point a single finger toward the middle of the set.
He looked over. It was Gu Mi’er.
Realizing the implication, he turned to glare at Youying, but the masked woman had already looked away. She was busy pulling snacks out of a bag to offer to Yun Mu, and the two were eating quite happily.
Feng Cen felt a throb in his temple. He was pretty sure a vein was popping. As time went on, he felt he was making zero progress with Yun Mu, while she and this female Alpha were getting closer by the day. No matter how he looked at it, he felt incredibly frustrated—and helpless.
He had known her first, so why? He had researched books and tried countless methods to no avail. Was it really just “fate”? The more he thought, the more dejected he became.
“Brother Feng~” Gu Mi’er came running over, looking like she wanted to throw herself into his arms.
“Don’t run around on set,” Feng Cen said, standing up with lightning speed. He held her by the shoulders to keep her at a distance.
“Ugh…” Yun Mu covered her nose and mouth. Though Feng Cen had stopped the girl, the wind from her run carried a thick, cloying scent of heavy powder mixed with perfume. Yun Mu genuinely couldn’t stand the smell. She subtly scooted her chair away, grumbling internally.
Imitating me? What a joke. She didn’t throw herself into people’s arms, she didn’t wear heavy makeup, and she certainly didn’t douse herself in perfume. She really wanted to ask those who claimed they looked alike what their criteria were.
“Brother Feng, I did well just now, didn’t I? Passed in under three takes. My acting must be improving,” Gu Mi’er said, her eyes shining.
“Mmhmm.” Perhaps because the person he actually liked was right there, Feng Cen felt awkward facing Gu Mi’er’s enthusiasm. Still, he couldn’t ignore the long-standing family and business ties between the Fengs and the Gus.
“It’s all thanks to you being willing to run lines with me, Brother Feng. That’s why I’ve improved so fast.”
“Ah… you worked hard too.”
Yun Mu caught the exchange out of the corner of her eye. Though she pitied Feng Cen, she had no desire to get involved in the messy affairs of elite families. Unfortunately, even when you don’t want to muddy the waters, someone always tries to pull you in.
“Oh, Sister Yun! You’re here too? I’m so sorry, I didn’t even notice you just now,” Gu Mi’er said, poking her head out from behind Feng Cen and flashing a brilliant smile.
Claiming she hadn’t noticed Yun Mu—who was sitting right there—was a weak lie. A newcomer might have looked slighted, which could lead to nasty rumors, but Yun Mu was a veteran. She knew how the game was played. You don’t hit a smiling face, but…
“Mmhmm. Hard work out there. I was so focused on my script that I didn’t notice you either, Miss Gu. My apologies,” Yun Mu replied with an equally bright smile. She saw Gu Mi’er’s face stiffen and a flash of annoyance cross her eyes, but she didn’t care. Yun Mu hated being passive; if the girl wanted to pick a fight, she’d better have a thick skin.
When it came to being annoying, Yun Mu was a pro. After all, she had a “practice partner.”
(Luo Ling: ? ? ? I suddenly feel a wave of resentment.)
Gu Mi’er took a deep breath. When Feng Cen wasn’t looking, she glared at Yun Mu, only to be met with another effortless smile. It felt like her attacks were hitting cotton—no matter how hard she struck, it didn’t seem to hurt.
Feng Cen is clearly closer to me, she told herself. The rumors about him liking this vixen must be lies. We grew up together; how could she ever compare?
Bolstering herself with these thoughts, Gu Mi’er grabbed Feng Cen’s arm and shot a triumphant look at Yun Mu. To her fury, Yun Mu had already looked away and was casually snacking.
First attack deflected. Second attack brushed aside. Third attack ignored. Even Gu Mi’er was starting to feel the sting in her heart. She wanted nothing more than to slap that “vixen” across the face. But with Feng Cen there, she had to maintain her image.
“Brother Feng,” she said, shaking his arm. “My family is throwing a banquet for the holidays—it’s my birthday party! You have to come! My parents and brother will all be there!” Her voice took on a boastful edge. So what if she’s popular? Can her family status beat mine? She’s probably a nobody in the real world! Like a peacock showing its feathers, she continued: “I’m telling you, Dad ordered a custom dress worth over thirty million for me, and a master pastry chef to make a five-tier cake. Mom and Brother say they have lots of surprises, too.”
She raised her volume, peeking at Yun Mu to see a look of envy. Instead, Yun Mu was happily accepting a juice from Youying.
“I’ll see if I have time,” Feng Cen said with a bitter smile.
“Mmhmm! You have to come!” Gu Mi’er took his non-committal answer as a “yes.” Even if he refused, she knew she just had to tell her parents and they’d make sure he showed up.
“I have to go. Things to do.” Feng Cen barely hid his irritation as he hurried away. A marriage between the two families was expected; as the only daughter, Gu Mi’er liked him, and both families had basically given their silent approval.
But he didn’t want it. Family interests were important, but he wanted a choice in his own marriage. He clenched his fists, walking faster. He needed some space.
“Bro… Brother Feng…” Even someone as thick-skinned as Gu Mi’er could sense his rejection. She wasn’t actually dense; she was quite shrewd, and she noticed how he was increasingly trying to avoid her.
If you want something, you fight for it. That was her mother’s teaching. Any stumbling blocks had to be cleared away. She’d rather destroy a hundred innocents than let one threat through. And the most dangerous threat… was Yun Mu.
If Yun Mu didn’t leave the industry, Gu Mi’er would never be at peace. She wanted to ruin her reputation! She wanted to erase her from Feng Cen’s sight. If only I could meet her in the real world, she thought. In reality, is there anyone I can’t handle?
A glint appeared in Gu Mi’er’s eyes. She turned to Yun Mu. “Sister Yun, why don’t you come to my birthday party? It’s on the Capital Star! If you want to come, I can send you a ship ticket and have someone pick you up. Only the wealthiest families are invited!”
Please say yes, she thought. Show me your greed. Don’t all commoners want a taste of high society? Once I get you there, I’ll make sure you’re humiliated.
Yun Mu looked at her as if she were an idiot. An invitation from someone who radiated malice even in the virtual world? She’d have to be brain-damaged to accept.
“No, thank you. I’m busy then. I appreciate the offer, Miss Gu.”
“Heh, what a shame~ I’ll leave you to it, then. I’m going to rest.” Gu Mi’er pouted, feigning disappointment. She checked the time and walked toward the dressing rooms. Her manager caught up with her on the way.
“Have someone track that bitch’s every move. Find a way to blackball her,” Gu Mi’er hissed, her voice turning cold and venomous.
The manager didn’t blink; he was used to her personality flips. He pulled out a notebook and handed it to her. “No need to rush, Miss. Look at this.”
Gu Mi’er read the notes, her brow smoothing out. “Hmph… interesting. They actually have an idea like this?”
“Yun Mu’s agency kept this project strictly under wraps. It took a while to dig up, but they’re definitely preparing a show. And all their top stars are expected to join,” the manager explained.
“Good. I don’t care how you do it, but get me a spot on that show.” Gu Mi’er shoved the notebook back into his chest and glanced back at Yun Mu. “I could wait, but looking at her just makes me miserable. I want to make her life a living hell.”
“Understood. I’ll arrange it.”
As the two hurried away, they didn’t notice Youying sitting beside Yun Mu, watching their retreating backs with the icy gaze of someone looking at a corpse. Only after they vanished did she withdraw her eyes.
