Poor Relationship - Chapter 14
“Get in the car. I don’t want to say it a third time.”
Wen Jiang’s voice turned cold, the lines of his face shadowed and rigid. Xu Yizhou had never been able to stand being spoken to like that since he was a child. With a hundred pounds of body and eighty pounds of defiance, he hated it most when others used a commanding tone with him.
“I told you, my colleagues invited me to dinner. I agreed—I can’t just stand them up.”
“You go ahead back.”
With that, Xu Yizhou took a few steps back and spotted Wen Shi waving at him from not far away. Xu Yizhou got into Wen Shi’s car. Right in front of Wen Jiang, he got into someone else’s car.
Wen Shi glanced at the person in the other vehicle. “Your partner?”
“My brother.”
Xu Yizhou shrugged helplessly, his tone less than pleasant. He didn’t know why Wen Jiang was acting like he’d taken the wrong medicine tonight, speaking in a way that made everyone so uncomfortable.
“Oh, so you’re not going back with him?”
As he spoke, Wen Shi leaned in slightly closer to Xu Yizhou, pulling the seatbelt over and clicking it into place. Wen Shi carried the scent of cologne, which was quite pleasant.
“I don’t like others interfering with my freedom.”
Seeing Wen Shi fasten his seatbelt, Xu Yizhou politely thanked him. By the time Wen Shi moved away, the black car was already gone. Though he felt a twinge of guilt, he still wore an air of righteous confidence.
Wen Shi smiled.
“Then don’t overthink it. Let’s just focus on having a good meal first.”
To be honest, it was impossible not to feel uneasy. And Wen Jiang’s expression earlier had clearly been one of anger. It left him distracted. He couldn’t even bring himself to eat much.
Noticing this, Wen Shi ordered a few bottles of alcohol.
“If you can’t eat, why not drink instead? Wash away all the unhappiness and worries.”
Prying open a bottle cap, Wen Shi handed the bottle to Xu Yizhou.
“When I used to feel unhappy or troubled, I always thought this was a good choice.”
Just thinking about Wen Jiang’s icy tone earlier made Xu Yizhou feel somewhat wronged.
He took the bottle and took a big gulp. Having never drunk alcohol since childhood, he nearly spat it out after the first sip. He had no idea alcohol could taste so awful.
Wen Shi handed him a tissue.
“Teacher Xu, is this your first time drinking?”
Hearing this, Xu Yizhou’s inner vanity stirred.
“Of course not. I’m practically immune to alcohol, you know.”
“Is that so?”
Wen Shi clearly didn’t believe him.
“How annoying.”
Without another word, Xu Yizhou picked up the bottle and downed it in one go. After all, losing face in front of a junior was something he couldn’t quite accept.
“Teacher Xu has such a high tolerance for alcohol?”
Wen Shi propped his head on his hand, watching Xu Yizhou with a smile.
“I’m starting to feel a bit inferior.”
After finishing the bottle, Xu Yizhou was coughing so hard he could barely keep his eyes open, but he still tried his best to maintain his composure.
“I told you, I’m immune to alcohol.”
“So how do you feel now, Teacher Xu? Has the unhappiness in your heart eased a bit?”
Wen Shi didn’t argue with him, just followed along with his words.
“Yeah, it’s actually not bad.”
Xu Yizhou’s face began to flush, his words growing slurred, and his head felt dizzy. But he did feel much better. Now he finally understood why some people liked to drown their sorrows in alcohol when they were unhappy.
“Why aren’t you drinking?”
From the start until now, he noticed Wen Shi had only been handing him drinks, not taking a single sip himself. Wen Shi smiled gently at the words, his tone soft.
“Because I have to drive. If we both drink, who will take the wheel?”
The light reflected in his eyes, shimmering like rippling waves, reminiscent of the vast, starry sea.
“You know, I’ve realized you’re not as bad as my brother made you out to be.”
Xu Yizhou mumbled, and Wen Shi, sitting across from him, heard every word clearly.
“Oh? What did your brother say about me?”
He was curious.
The person he had seen earlier must be the brother Xu Yizhou mentioned.
But the way that man looked at Xu Yizhou… it didn’t seem like the gaze of an older brother at all. Especially when he was fastening Xu Yizhou’s seatbelt—the man’s eyes seemed sharp enough to skin him alive. Xu Yizhou’s mind was hazy, completely unaware of what he was saying, and he simply answered Wen Shi’s question:
“He said you have… hic… a lot of fish, both here and abroad… you get bored and move on…”
“Is that so?”
Wen Shi raised a hand to stroke his chin, looking at Xu Yizhou with a smile curling at the corners of his lips.
“Your brother is quite perceptive.”
“What?”
Xu Yizhou didn’t know what was happening to him; he could barely hear what Wen Shi was saying. His flushed face was slightly lowered, his eyes drooping, filled with confusion.
“Professor Xu, you’re drunk.”
“I’m not drunk!”
Hearing Wen Shi’s words, Xu Yizhou’s competitive spirit flared up again.
“I can still drink more…”
But before he could finish, he slumped forward onto the table. The warm yellow light fell on his smooth hair, the strands covering his eyes.
“Professor Xu?”
Wen Shi called out to Xu Yizhou, but there was no response.
“Professor Xu, are you asleep?”
He reached out and nudged him, but Xu Yizhou remained motionless. A faint smile tugged at Wen Shi’s lips, a victorious glint flashing in his peach-blossom eyes.
“Professor Xu, you’ve still fallen into my hands, haven’t you?”
Wen Shi caressed the hot, flushed face, smooth and flawless.
He called the waiter over and settled the bill. Placing Xu Yizhou’s arm over his shoulder, he wrapped one hand around his waist, greedily stroking the soft flesh there. And so, he helped him out.
Xu Yizhou stood at 180 cm tall, yet no one would have guessed his waist was as slender and soft as a woman’s. So delicate and slim. He had noticed it the last time he drove Xu Yizhou home. Arriving at the parking spot, Wen Shi opened the rear car door with one hand and helped Xu Yizhou inside.
Xu Yizhou frowned uncomfortably but didn’t wake up. Wen Shi casually closed the door, but just as it was about to shut, a hand gripped it. A shadow fell over him. Wen Shi focused his gaze and finally recognized the person before him—the same man who had argued with Xu Yizhou earlier.
“What do you plan to do with him?”
Wen Jiang’s face was half-hidden in the shadows, cold and sinister. It sent chills down one’s spine.
“Oh, you must be Professor Xu’s brother. He’s drunk, and I was just about to take him home!”
Wen Shi feigned surprise, his face instantly reverting to its gentle smile. Wen Jiang pulled open the car door, frowning as he looked at the drunken figure inside. He bent down, reached in, and lifted Xu Yizhou out. At 193 cm tall, carrying the 180 cm Xu Yizhou was effortless; he even gave him a slight bounce in his arms as he held him like a princess.
“Take your claws back. He’s not someone you can lay a hand on.”
