Perfect Possession - Episode 54
Hyun-shik, who unintentionally watched the live broadcast of the two people’s confessions of love, couldn’t hide his smile. He felt a sense of fulfillment and warmth, as if their happiness was being transmitted to him. He didn’t know that the happiness of the superior he served could be so pleasing.
“Congratulations, you two.”
“Chief Jung, please enter first.”
“No way. You enter after your test too.”
“I’m disappointed, Vice Chairman.”
Hyun-shik said that, but it was his way of responding to Jaehoon’s joke.
The two took the car driven by Hyun-shik to a jewelry store in Cheongdam-dong. The general manager, who seemed to have been contacted in advance, was already waiting in the parking lot.
The manager, who had spent half his life in this industry, greeted the two calmly, without showing any surprise that the Vice Chairman, the real power of Do-young, had suddenly come to see wedding rings.
But that was just on the surface; it was only a matter of time before this news spread to high society through his mouth.
“We’ve been waiting for you.”
“We’re just buying rings.”
Jaehoon said briefly, without even greeting him.
“Yes, we have them prepared.”
“Let’s go.”
Jaehoon took Seo-yeon’s hand and went inside. Seo-yeon was greatly surprised by the dazzling interior of the store, but she didn’t show it. She was thinking of Jaehoon’s reputation.
Seo-yeon and Jaehoon went to a special room guided by the manager and sat down. Already on the table were wedding rings and jewelry placed on a black velvet box.
“You’re not going to buy everything, are you?”
“Shouldn’t we get at least two sets?”
“Where would I wear them? It’s okay. Let’s just do the rings.”
Seo-yeon really didn’t need a set. She was planning to focus on raising Tae-yul, so she had nowhere to dress up and go.
“Then let’s just do the basics.”
Jaehoon didn’t give in and looked at the ring, bracelet, and necklace set. He pointed to a white gold ring that was simple but still dazzling enough with just one diamond.
“How about this? You don’t like flashy things.”
Seo-yeon looked at Jaehoon with loving eyes, remembering even the smallest details of her taste. Jaehoon raised his eyebrows with amusement.
“Don’t look at me, look here.”
“I’m just so impressed.”
Seo-yeon whispered so that only Jaehoon could hear, then gently picked up the ring he showed her.
The size of the diamond was a bit much, but Seo-yeon liked it more than other flashy rings.
“It’s really a gumball-sized diamond.”
“It’s not that big. Do you like it?”
Seo-yeon put down the ring and picked up the men’s ring that came with the set. It was a little smaller than hers, but the sparkling light of the diamond was beautiful.
“I like this one better. I should be buying it for you.”
“What does it matter? We’re already a couple.”
Jaehoon smiled and slipped the women’s ring onto Seo-yeon’s hand. Her brown eyes widened in surprise. The ring fit her hand perfectly, as if it had been custom-made.
“It fits. Is this fate? The ring has met its owner.”
“I hope yours fits too.”
Seo-yeon looked at the men’s ring with nervous eyes. If this one fit Jaehoon’s hand too, she would decide on this ring without hesitation.
She looked at Jaehoon and put the ring on his ring finger. It seemed to catch slightly at the knuckle, but then it went in smoothly all the way. Seo-yeon almost burst into tears.
“It fits. Let’s do this one, Jaehoon. Thank you so much for being my man.”
At that moment, Seo-yeon couldn’t see anyone but Jaehoon. No matter how embarrassing the words were, she couldn’t bear not to say them.
“Damn it, don’t do this in a place like this. Seo-yeon, I’ll go home early today.”
“What? Say something cool.”
Jaehoon wiped Seo-yeon’s wet eyes and gave her an attractive smile.
“Where can you find cooler words than this? Look forward to it.”
Seo-yeon burst out laughing and nodded her head vigorously.
Back at the office, Jaehoon couldn’t help but be distracted by the presence of the ring, which he felt every time he moved his hand. He stopped on his way to his desk and raised his left hand.
It was just a ring on his ring finger, but it seemed to be everything, making Jaehoon’s heart solemn. Yesterday and today, or even between morning and afternoon, the only thing that had changed was that he was wearing this ring, but his life had changed. The conflicts in his hesitant heart were neatly resolved.
Even though it felt childish, Jaehoon felt like he had been reborn.
“About the ring. I never understood why people childishly wear matching rings when they’re dating and wear them when they get married.”
“Yes, Vice Chairman.”
Hyun-shik quietly listened to Jaehoon’s words.
“It’s just a ring, but it changes a person, Hyun-shik. I’m a little different from the Jaehoon I was yesterday. It feels like I’ve become a bit of Min Jaehoon too.”
Jaehoon took his eyes off the ring and turned to look at Hyun-shik. Seeing his bloodshot eyes, Jaehoon frowned.
“I’m the one wearing the wedding ring, why are you crying?”
“I’m not crying.”
“Oh… well, if you said you were crying, I would have given you a bonus.”
“Actually, I couldn’t help but hold back my tears at the sight of you two being so beautiful.”
Hyun-shik answered seriously without changing his expression. Jaehoon smiled briefly with an absurd look on his face.
“The heart of the superior is your heart. I’ll interpret it that way.”
At that moment, there was a knock, and Jaehoon turned back to his desk and said briefly.
“Come in.”
The person who opened the door was Sung-joon.
“You called for me, Vice Chairman.”
Sung-joon, who originally liked to dress up, was interested in accessories enough to wear rings even though he was single.
Even now, a luxury bracelet was fastened on his wrist, hidden by his shirt sleeves. It was only natural that Jaehoon’s ring on his left hand was the first thing that caught his eye.
“Hyung? What’s that?”
Sung-joon momentarily forgot that he was inside the company. He strode over and grabbed Jaehoon’s hand.
His eyes widened as the name of a famous high-end diamond brand flowed out.
“That’s a T company ring, right? Was it brought into the country? Wow, that’s totally expensive.”
“Is that how a department head should talk?”
Hyun-shik, flustered, warned Sung-joon.
“It’s okay. I’m only going to indulge him for one minute.”
Jaehoon, in a good mood, decided to let Sung-joon, who had broken the company’s rules, off the hook for once in his life.
“Don’t tell Seo-yeon the price.”
“I won’t! As expected, the light is different. I want to wear a diamond ring from here at least once before I die.”
Sung-joon said, unable to take his eyes off the ring.
“Put it down now. And not this one, but I’ll gift you a ring from here when you get married.”
“Re, really?”
Sung-joon’s eyes were about to pop out in surprise.
“So, put it down now.”
“Ah… yes, yes. Vice Chairman.”
Sung-joon couldn’t hide his happy heart and came to Hyun-shik, poking him in the side. Hyun-shik frowned and took a step away from Sung-joon.
“Hyun-shik, yours too. Wouldn’t it be better to receive a wedding ring from someone who is having a happy married life?”
“Thank you. I’m shameless, but I’ll look forward to it if that’s the case.”
Hyun-shik, who seemed like he wanted to say, “I want to prepare my own wedding ring,” bowed his head in gratitude.
Jaehoon chuckled, then changed his expression and took out a file from the safe in the drawer and placed it on the desk.
“Start with Assistant Manager Ha from the technology department first. I’ll tell you when to detonate it, so tell Reporter Im to stand by.”
“Vice Chairman, didn’t you say we would detonate this a little later?”
Jaehoon had been watching the circumstances in which some of the technology had been flowing into J&D Group for three years. In such cases, it was mostly someone from the technology department or an insider who had recruited someone from the technology department.
Ha was the former. He had properly interviewed and joined Do-young, but he was originally an industrial spy raised by the J&D Group Scholarship Foundation.
The reason he hadn’t been kicked out right away and had been watched was to catch solid evidence and take down J&D Group.
Jaehoon appointed him to a faulty project and watched what information was flowing into J&D.
Of course, there were some technologies that were too good to lose. But Jaehoon readily gave J&D the first move because he couldn’t catch the big one without sacrifice. Thanks to that, he was able to collect a considerable amount of evidence.
Jaehoon was thinking of giving Mina, who had bothered Seo-yeon, a small gift.
“She bothered my Seo-yeon. Start it.”
“Yes, I understand.”
Sung-joon took the file on the desk and left.
“Chief Jung.”
“Yes.”
“Don’t forget to connect me with Chairman Seo right before the article comes out.”
“Yes, don’t worry.”
Jaehoon smiled lowly, recalling Seo-yeon, who had retorted, “You take care of that,” when Mina, covered in water, threatened the two of them.
“You’re cool, Min Seo-yeon.”
Hyun-shik pretended not to hear and quickly left the room. It was definitely not his imagination that his face was red.
Tae-yul, unable to take his eyes off the ring, didn’t even play his favorite ball and sat on Seo-yeon’s lap.
“Wha?”
It was the tenth question already. Tae-yul poked the ring with his tiny finger and turned to look at Seo-yeon.
“Wedding ring. Daddy has one too.”
“Wing?”
“Ring.”
“Mommy, wha?”
Tae-yul asked again, liking the sparkling things. It was like an endless round song, but Seo-yeon was so cute that her smile didn’t leave her face.
“Ring.”
“Wing.”
Every time, Seo-yeon answered kindly without getting annoyed.
“It’s not going to end.”
“That’s right. He’s not even playing today.”
“He woke up from his nap and cried when he realized Madam wasn’t there. Butler Park and gardener Hwang coaxed him to play ball and took him out, and he stopped crying.”
Ms. Kim brought Tae-yul’s favorite fruit in a dish with animal characters. Only then did he get off Seo-yeon’s lap and sit at the mini table.
“Mommy, popo.”
He picked up a bunch of grapes, especially his favorite, showed it to Seo-yeon, and put it in his mouth.
“He’s so cute that I don’t even realize how time is passing.”
“This is when he’s the prettiest. But please pay attention to the Vice Chairman too. He’s a lonely person, so he might be jealous.”
“I’m using him a lot.”
Seo-yeon blushed, thinking of Jaehoon, who had told her to look forward to it. She quickly wiped the fruit juice from Tae-yul’s mouth with her hand and brought it to her mouth. The sweet taste was something Tae-yul would like.
