Perfect Possession - Episode 53
Jaehoon found the shattered glass on the floor and, with a startled look, first checked Seo-yeon’s hands. Fortunately, she didn’t seem to be hurt; there was no blood. He breathed a sigh of relief and grabbed Seo-yeon’s wrist.
“Let’s go.”
Seo-yeon removed Jaehoon’s hand and instead linked her arm with his.
“Let’s go. I’ve said all I needed to say.”
Jaehoon realized anew that he was tense, seeing Seo-yeon’s expression, which felt almost serene. The two of them didn’t even glance at Mina as they walked away.
“You guys…”
At the sound of the grinding voice, Seo-yeon stopped and turned to look at Mina. Mina, soaked in water, looked like a witch from a fairy tale she’d read as a child. She was glaring at Seo-yeon as if she wanted to kill her.
“I won’t let you get away with this!”
Seo-yeon stared at Mina with a blank face, then silently turned her gaze to Jaehoon.
“You take care of this.”
“Don’t worry.”
Jaehoon realized from Seo-yeon’s cold tone that she was very angry. He swallowed dryly without realizing it. He felt like a criminal even though he hadn’t done anything wrong, which was incredibly frustrating, but there was nothing he could do.
Even though he had the best jeweler in Korea, he didn’t want to buy Seo-yeon’s wedding ring in the same place he had met Mina. Jaehoon had already instructed Hyun-shik to go somewhere else, so he took Seo-yeon to the parking lot.
As soon as they got into the elevator, Seo-yeon released Jaehoon’s arm. She was angry. Of course, she was angriest at Mina for approaching Jaehoon, but she also resented Jaehoon, even though she knew he wasn’t at fault.
She stared at the elevator’s number display and didn’t even glance at Jaehoon.
“Seo-yeon-ah.”
“You’re supposed to be quiet in elevators.”
Seo-yeon could tell that Jaehoon was flustered and shut his mouth. She regretted it for a moment, but she didn’t want to show him her ugly, jealous face.
When the elevator doors opened, Hyun-shik was waiting. She was worried that Jaehoon would be at Hyun-shik’s beck and call, so she wanted to smile at him, even if it was forced, but her mouth was stiff and wouldn’t cooperate.
Jaehoon reached out his hand, but Seo-yeon silently passed him and went to the car.
It was only after meeting Seo-yeon that Jaehoon had started to consider a woman’s feelings first. When he thought about it, all the memories of desperately wanting someone were only about Seo-yeon.
He had never seen Seo-yeon angry, so he had no experience in how to appease such a woman. Jaehoon watched Seo-yeon walk to the car and said to Hyun-shik.
“Wait a moment.”
“Yes, Vice President.”
Jaehoon looked back at Hyun-shik.
“Are you alright?”
“I… I don’t know.”
Jaehoon answered honestly. He took a deep breath and got into the car.
Fortunately, Hyun-shik didn’t follow, so Seo-yeon glared at him as he got into the car.
“Seo-yeon-ah.”
“I know I’m Seo-yeon, so stop calling me that.”
“I’m sorry. I was waiting for you.”
Seo-yeon raised her hand towards Jaehoon. He looked surprised, his dark eyes widening as he stared straight at Seo-yeon.
“I only poured water on you earlier, but if something like this happens again, I’m going to slap you like this.”
Seo-yeon lightly slapped Jaehoon’s cheek and then cupped it with her hand.
“I know. I know that woman came to see you on her own. I know, but I’m still angry. Wouldn’t you be?”
“I’d kill her.”
Jaehoon answered immediately, his anger rising at the mere thought. Seo-yeon chuckled, seeing his dark eyes heavy with anger over something that hadn’t even happened yet.
“You’re really angry.”
He hugged Seo-yeon tightly, then kissed her lips and buried his face in her neck.
“I’m really sorry for showing you that.”
“It was bound to happen once.”
“That woman, that day…”
Jaehoon quickly stopped talking, about to say that he had only seen her once, the day she had jumped in front of his car asking him to find Tae-yul. He didn’t want to bring back painful memories.
“That day what? You had a matchmaking meeting with that woman at that hotel?”
“A matchmaking meeting?”
Jaehoon looked horrified and said clearly.
“I went out to warn her not to bother me. I’m telling you, I didn’t even have a glass of water with that woman. But you… you knew?”
“Wasn’t I a pretty competent secretary for you? I’m the vice president of J&D Group. The Madam cherished me a lot, too.”
“Absolutely not. Forget everything you saw today. I don’t want you feeling bad because of a woman like that. It’s not worth it.”
“Stop it. Even if you don’t glare at me like that, I will. How can I have time to think about a woman like that when I’m so busy with childcare? You should consider yourself lucky. I carry Tae-yul around a hundred times a day. If it weren’t for Tae-yul…”
“If it weren’t for Tae-yul?”
Seo-yeon glared at Jaehoon as if he were being annoying. She punched him in the shoulder with her fist.
“I’d be dead.”
“Ah, that’s a bit scary. But really, you poured water on a vice president?”
It was a scene that Jaehoon couldn’t imagine at all when he thought of Seo-yeon.
“I regret the most that I didn’t confirm that you gave her money as compensation for breaking up. If I had met you back then and grabbed you by the collar, asking how you could do this to me, if I had acted like a crazy woman like other women, our Tae-yul wouldn’t have had such a hard time. I decided then. I would never hold back again.”
Jaehoon listened to everything Seo-yeon said and then chuckled. He could understand what she meant by not holding back. Her actions so far had made it clear.
“Alright. But please rampage within the range that I can handle.”
“I don’t know. It depends on how you do.”
Seo-yeon said primly and looked at Hyun-shik.
“Tell him to get in now. We’re going home, right?”
“No. The reason I told you to come out today is still pending. Hyun-shik-ah.”
Jaehoon said briefly and lowered the window to call Hyun-shik.
The car left the hotel and headed to Cheongdam-dong. In Cheongdam-dong, there was a jewelry store that the wives of chaebols frequented.
Going there would inevitably cause rumors about the two of them to spread like wildfire in the business world, so it was a place he had put on hold for a while, but it was also the perfect place to choose a wedding ring.
Jaehoon held Seo-yeon’s hand and looked out the window. As they entered Cheongdam-dong, the car slowed down as if it was stuck in traffic. He stroked her bare finger and suddenly realized that something was wrong.
Jaehoon turned to look at Seo-yeon. Soon, her warm brown eyes were looking at him lovingly. His heart felt warm and his mind was at peace. Any worries in the world disappeared when he looked at her.
What was this, anyway? Was this what people called love? Jaehoon felt that his possessiveness of her was not enough to explain everything.
He could die in her place. It wasn’t an emotion that could be contained by something like possessiveness.
“Seo-yeon-ah.”
“Yes?”
Seo-yeon smiled softly and looked at Jaehoon. As if emotions were pouring out, his dark eyes shook with confusion for a moment, then stopped completely.
“I love you. I don’t think I can do without you. It’s not enough to just have you. This is love, right?”
Seo-yeon stopped breathing. She was momentarily stunned by what she had heard. Ridiculously, she looked around.
It was indeed in the car. Even Hyun-shik was in the car. Reality was clear, but Jaehoon was telling a dreamlike story.
Suddenly, a coughing sound broke the silence. Hyun-shik was coughing and panicking, as if he was choking.
Only then did Seo-yeon realize that she had just heard a confession of love in a moving car, after pouring water on the head of a woman who was hitting on her husband.
The moment she realized it, Seo-yeon’s heart was pounding violently as if it would burst. She wanted to hear it again clearly. She couldn’t bear not to capture every movement of his voice and lips as he said he loved her, so that she could never ask again.
“Say it again.”
“I love you.”
“Cough, I’m, I’m sorry.”
Hyun-shik, who had coughed, quickly apologized.
“I love you, Min Seo-yeon. No matter how I think about it, the order is all messed up. The confession should have come first. If it had, you wouldn’t have left me.”
“Does that mean you loved me before now, too?”
“I wouldn’t have searched for you like a madman for two years with just possessiveness. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep. It doesn’t make sense that I did that for two years with just the desire to have you.”
“Of course, it doesn’t. You’re only realizing that now? Really… why are you such an idiot. I love you.”
Seo-yeon hugged Jaehoon tightly and cried. Her voice trembled as tears came out. She felt like she would scream if she didn’t cry. Jaehoon also hugged her slender back tightly.
“We’re such idiots.”
“It’s because I was ignorant.”
“No. Still, thank you so much for saying that.”
“What are you talking about? You should be angry that I’m only confessing now.”
“Really?”
“No. You seem like you’d be amazing when you’re angry today. I’m honestly scared.”
Jaehoon wiped away Seo-yeon’s tears and gave her an attractive smile. She smiled through her tears and then burst out laughing.
“I love you.”
“I love you. Let’s buy a ring today.”
“What, is that why you said the order was messed up?”
“Because we’re going to have a wedding next year. The order is messed up, right?”
Seo-yeon looked at Jaehoon with wide eyes. She had thought that they could share the rings one by one. But she really couldn’t imagine a wedding.
“We’re having a wedding…?”
“Of course. We have every right to be blessed, too. We’ll test whether they’re sincerely congratulating us at the entrance of the wedding before letting them in.”
“Jaehoon.”
Seo-yeon hugged Jaehoon and laughed loudly. The unpleasantness and maddening jealousy caused by Mina disappeared cleanly with his confession.
She couldn’t give this man, Han Jaehoon, who lifted her up and down, to anyone.
