Perfect Possession - Episode 32
Tae-yul still didn’t speak, but his expressions were much richer than when he first arrived. Even after a round of swings, Seo-yeon watched Tae-yul stacking blocks with Jae-moon instead of dozing off.
“He smiles sometimes. Narrowing his eyes.”
Seo-yeon whispered in a voice as calm as a dream.
“Madam also smiles, narrowing her eyes sometimes.”
Madam Kim looked at Seo-yeon with satisfaction and said.
“Pardon? What did you just call me?”
Surprised, Seo-yeon turned to Madam Kim, her eyes wide. She never dreamed she would hear the word “Madam” from her.
“Why, is something strange? You’re married to the Vice Chairman, so of course, you’re Madam to me.”
Madam Kim replied lightly, as if it were nothing to be surprised about.
“The Vice Chairman said that the young master has improved a lot and told me to call back the former staff. Is that alright with you? If you wish, you can only bring in the people you need, Madam.”
“Ah, no. But could you just call me Secretary Min? It’s too awkward.”
Seo-yeon said honestly.
“Then are you still the Vice Chairman’s secretary?”
“…Ah, not really.”
“Then to me, you are no longer Secretary Min.”
Madam Kim smiled quietly and continued calmly.
“Get used to it. No matter what anyone says, you are Madam of the Do-young family.”
Her calm gaze became solemn. It was as if she was saying that one day she would face the Grand Madam, and she couldn’t do it with such a weak heart. Seo-yeon nodded, feeling Madam Kim’s sincere concern for her.
“Thank you. And call back the people who were here before. I don’t want them to lose their jobs because of me. Anyway, Tae-yul’s situation will inevitably be known outside. Jaehoon has no intention of hiding it at all. He said he already told the main family.”
“The main family?”
“Yes. It wouldn’t be strange if they barged in at any time.”
“Are you alright? You haven’t even….”
Madam Kim trailed off, closing her mouth. It was obvious that if the elders of the main family were to meet the young master in that state, all the arrows would be directed at someone.
“It doesn’t matter.”
Seo-yeon burst into laughter, watching Tae-yul stare at Jae-moon with wide eyes as the blocks fell. His lips were curled into a circle, as if he was about to shout any minute.
“Now that I’ve found this child, how can I be afraid of those people who will resent me as the woman who should be killed? It’s true, anyway. But that doesn’t mean I’ll just bow my head like a fool. I’m Madam, aren’t I? Haven’t I joined the ranks of the Do-young family’s esteemed Madams?”
Seo-yeon smiled brightly at Madam Kim. Then, as Tae-yul jumped up and ran towards her, she approached him with shining eyes.
“Tae-yul, are you having fun?”
Seo-yeon smiled at the beads of sweat on his cute nose. She wiped away the sweat with a handkerchief.
“Are you too hot? It’s not that hot yet.”
The house always maintained a pleasant temperature. Seo-yeon was worried that Tae-yul was sweating even though he hadn’t been playing outside.
“Don’t worry. Children and adults have the same number of sweat glands, but think about having all those sweat glands in this small body. It’s normal for them to sweat more than adults. It’s also proof that they’ve been playing hard.”
Jae-moon, who had come closer, explained in an easy-to-understand way.
“He’s very smart. I think he’s a step above Jaehoon. He’s stubborn. He also has clear preferences, insisting on stacking only the blocks of his favorite color.”
“Favorite color?”
Instead of answering, Jae-moon pointed to Tae-yul’s hand with his eyes. Seo-yeon followed his gaze and saw a red block in Tae-yul’s hand.
As if knowing that Seo-yeon was looking at him, Tae-yul held out the block to her. He probably wanted to give Seo-yeon the block of his favorite color.
She slowly reached out her hand, looking at Tae-yul with a happy face.
“Are you giving it to Mommy?”
Tae-yul nodded eagerly as if he had been waiting for her to ask, placed the block in Seo-yeon’s hand, and returned to his spot, staring intently at Jae-moon.
“Oh my, it looks like he wants to stack again. He’s not ordinary. But thinking that there’s another guy like Jaehoon in this world makes me feel inferior.”
Jae-moon laughed loudly and approached Tae-yul, starting to stack blocks. Even after collapsing several times, Tae-yul didn’t stop stacking blocks.
Seo-yeon, who was watching with admiration, smiled when Butler Park stood in the hallway with a stiff expression. She glanced at Tae-yul, seeing that Butler Park looked like he had something to say, and went out of the living room.
“Is something the matter?”
“Madam from the main family has arrived.”
Seo-yeon clenched her fists tightly for a moment, then relaxed her hands and took a slow breath. She was surprised at how calm she was.
Dealing with Mi-ryung required a high degree of concentration. To do that, she couldn’t be excited or afraid.
“Wait a moment. Don’t let her come inside.”
“Then….”
Butler Park trailed off, surprised. He never imagined that she wouldn’t even let her enter the house.
“I’ll take responsibility. Escort her to the annex.”
Jaehoon’s house had a small annex attached to it. It was a place made for guests to stay independently.
“Yes, I understand.”
Butler Park looked at her eyes, which were calm without a hint of wavering, bowed his head, and steeled his heart. Mi-ryung was a formidable presence even for him.
But now he was serving Jaehoon, so he was willing to do what he could for the two of them. He would never let Mi-ryung into this house where Tae-yul was.
Watching Butler Park go down, Seo-yeon returned to the living room. She approached Tae-yul and stroked the child’s head.
“Tae-yul is completely focused. Let’s play block stacking with Daddy when he comes home tonight.”
Tae-yul lowered his eyes and nodded. When he did that, his lips also curled up slightly. When he was in a good mood, anyone could see that he was smiling, and it was so lovely that it made her heart ache.
“Mommy’s going to the bathroom for a bit. Play with Uncle.”
Tae-yul tilted his head at the word “bathroom,” glanced at Jae-moon, and nodded slowly.
“I’ll be right back. Ask Uncle to count to a hundred. Mommy will be back before you say ‘hundred.'”
He didn’t know how much a hundred was, but he must have thought it wouldn’t take long, because this time he nodded readily. Seo-yeon hugged Tae-yul once and looked at Jae-moon.
“Don’t tell me?”
Although she didn’t say it, Jae-moon quickly understood.
“Contact Jaehoon.”
“I don’t want anyone raising their voice in this house. It’s okay, Teacher. I’m not Secretary Min anymore. I’m Jaehoon’s wife and our Tae-yul’s mother. I’ll be right back.”
“Call me right away if anything happens.”
“Yes.”
To Jae-moon, who had no connection to the Do-young family, they were nothing more or less than his friend’s parents. Chairman Han and Mi-ryung of the Do-young family were not a threat to him.
That was the biggest reason why he was able to become friends with Jae-moon, Jaehoon had once told Seo-yeon.
“Madam Kim is here.”
“I understand.”
“Tae-yul, Mommy will be right back.”
As Seo-yeon waved her hand, Tae-yul reluctantly waved back a couple of times and picked up a block. She didn’t feel good, but she didn’t want Tae-yul, who hadn’t opened his mouth yet, to meet Mi-ryung.
It wasn’t that she was afraid of the resentment that would come back to her, but she was more afraid of hurting Tae-yul.
Seo-yeon straightened her back and headed to the annex.
“Butler Park, are you out of your mind? How can you put Grand Madam in a place like this?”
Jia was so dumbfounded that she couldn’t even speak. She felt like she was seeing the craziest thing ever. No matter how out of her mind she was, how could she make Mi-ryung wait in the annex? Jia was furious with Seo-yeon, regardless of this matter.
If it weren’t for her, there would be no reason for her to get involved in such a dirty business. If things went wrong, she would be the one to take the blame, so she hated Seo-yeon like a thorn in her side. Now that things had come to this, she had to kick her out no matter what.
“I couldn’t help it because it was Madam’s order.”
Mi-ryung, who had been silent until then, glared at Butler Park with a terrifying look. She pushed Jia away and stepped forward.
“What… what did you say?”
“Madam ordered me to escort you to the annex.”
“Madam? Who?”
“The Vice Chairman and Madam have become officially married.”
“What?”
Jia shouted and was surprised before Mi-ryung could.
“You be quiet!”
Mi-ryung fixed her gaze on Butler Park and rebuked Jia.
“So Jaehoon registered his marriage with Min. Secretary Min without our permission?”
“Yes, Grand Madam.”
“Grand Madam? Ha!”
Mi-ryung laughed loudly once, then regained her composure and returned to her solemn face.
“Where is Secretary Min now?”
“Have you arrived?”
Mi-ryung slowly turned her body at the voice coming from behind her.
“Hey, you!”
As Jia shouted, Mi-ryung raised her hand and covered her mouth. Mi-ryung stared intently at Seo-yeon, who was bowing politely.
Seo-yeon had steeled her heart, but her courage was about to fade for a moment at Mi-ryung’s fierce gaze and glamorous attire.
But when she thought of Tae-yul, who was happy to put the block in her hand, her fear disappeared like snow melting. She opened her mouth quietly, showing courtesy.
“I’m sorry for having to bring you here.”
“Sorry? Then will you let me go inside and meet my grandson?”
“I can’t do that. Madam.”
“Madam?”
Mi-ryung was speechless. She wondered if this was the Secretary Min she knew. Her confident and arrogant attitude was completely different from the Secretary Min who had retreated to the background and stood silently.
“You don’t recognize me as your daughter-in-law, do you? I’ll call you Mother when that time comes.”
“Will the day come when I recognize you as my daughter-in-law?”
“Then I’ll have no choice but to call you Madam.”
“What kind of wordplay is that? How dare a crazy woman covet the Do-young family? Bring my grandson here right now!”
Seo-yeon smiled coldly at the agitated Jia.
“Team Leader, you still have a foul mouth. That’s why those rumors are going around among the employees.”
“Wh-what? What rumors?”
“I don’t want to tell you myself.”
“The Do-young family’s trash can” was Jia’s nickname. But Seo-yeon didn’t want to put those dirty words in her mouth. From the beginning, Jia wasn’t that difficult of a person for Seo-yeon.
“Grandmother, are you just going to stand there and watch that woman?”
Jia said to Mi-ryung, unable to contain her anger.
“You stay still.”
Mi-ryung fixed her gaze on Seo-yeon and approached her. The sound of her footsteps walking on the marble floor gave her goosebumps. But that was it, Seo-yeon met Mi-ryung’s gaze without a hint of wavering.
