- Chapter 10 - The Only Friend
The next morning, at the first light of dawn, Yun Su woke from his meditation. He stretched his body and walked to the bedside to pull back the curtains.
Outside, the world was already bright, and the breakfast shop downstairs was packed with people. Withdrawing his gaze, Yun Su opened his bedroom door. The living room was empty; at this hour, Yun Ran had already left for school.
Yun Su took a shower, freshened up, and ate a little something to satisfy his hunger. Just as he was about to head out, his phone rang.
Ring, ring, ring…
Picking up the phone, Yun Su raised an eyebrow. “He Yongqing? It seems he was the original body’s university roommate and friend. Why is he calling at this hour?”
The original Yun Su had attended a key medical university in Canglan City, majoring in Clinical Medicine. His grades were quite good he had scored 683 on the college entrance exam. He had originally applied for Clinical Medicine at Capital Medical University, but unfortunately, he missed the cut, which was how he ended up at the key university in Canglan.
Yun Su pressed the answer button, and He Yongqing’s booming voice came through immediately: “Lu Yun, where are you right now? Why haven’t you come to school all day? Do you have any idea how important the coursework for this semester is? Do you still want your scholarship or not?”
Yun Su quickly moved the phone away from his ear. He waited until the other man finished his rant before bringing it back.
Although the original Yun Su was the “young master” of the Lu family, the Lu family would provide whatever he needed but never gave him any actual money, under the pretense that they were “afraid he would learn bad habits.” Consequently, since high school, he had always taken part-time jobs and relied on scholarships to buy the things he wanted. He had even been mocked by classmates for this, who said that for a rich young master, his stinginess was unbecoming. Only He Yongqing never felt that way and was willing to speak to him. Later, when they were assigned to the same dormitory, He Yongqing became the original Yun Su’s only friend throughout his three years of high school. By coincidence, they were assigned to the same dorm in college as well.
Later, when Lu Chen exposed that the original Yun Su was an imposter, the other two roommates in the dorm had ridiculed and targeted him, both openly and covertly. Only He Yongqing’s attitude toward him never changed. He had even gotten into a fight with the other two roommates on the original’s behalf, resulting in a disciplinary mark on his record when the counselor found out. It could be said that He Yongqing was the original’s only friend.
“Keep it down; I’m not deaf.”
“At a time like this, you’re still in the mood to joke? Do you know that yesterday was Professor Liu’s class? You actually dared to skip it! That ‘man-woman’ Professor Liu took attendance in front of the entire classroom and said you don’t have to come to her class ever again. You’ve completely failed this course for the semester.”
Listening to the other man’s voice, which clearly showed his worry, Yun Su didn’t feel bad at all. He locked the door behind him and said casually, “Yongqing, help me ask for a leave of absence. Just request… one month.”
“One month?”
He Yongqing was clearly shocked; his voice rose by two octaves. “Why do you suddenly need such a long leave? Did something happen at your home? Tell me, let me see if I can help.”
Yun Su walked downstairs and replied, “Nothing happened at home. I just have some important matters to handle, and I won’t have time for school for a while.”
The other end of the line was silent for a good while before he hesitated. “Is it because of your family background? I saw the press conference held by the Lu family… please don’t be too sad…” By the end, He Yongqing clearly didn’t know how to comfort him.
Yun Su, however, let out a soft chuckle. “What are you talking about? Why would I be sad because of parents like that? I really have other things to do. But, I will return to the dorm in a while; we can get together and have a good time then.”
“Alright. Call me when you’re coming back. I’ll take care of the leave of absence for you.”
“Thank you.” Yun Su expressed his gratitude and hung up.
After reaching the ground floor, Yun Su planned to take a taxi to the police station to change his name before heading to Bibo Lake to continue his cultivation. Just as he walked out of the alley, however, he paused slightly, seeing a familiar person Zhang Xiong!
“What are you doing here?”
Zhang Xiong had been waiting for Yun Su nearby. Seeing him, he walked up with a pleasantly surprised expression. “Mr. Yun, Elder An asked me to wait here for you!”
Zhang Xiong gestured for him to proceed. “All the medicinal herbs you mentioned have been prepared.”
Yun Su was slightly surprised. “So fast?”
Although he had guessed that the Elder An’s identity was not simple, he hadn’t expected them to gather over fifty types of herbs in just a single day. He knew that when he had written the prescription, he had intentionally included over a dozen herbs that weren’t for treating meridians, but rather herbs he needed for his own cultivation. This caught Yun Su off guard.
Soon, however, Yun Su suppressed the look in his eyes and gave a faint nod. “Then let’s go. But before we head there, I need to make a stop at the police station.”
“The police station? Why does Mr. Yun need to go there?” Zhang Xiong asked, confused, as he started the car.
Yun Su looked out the window at the scenery flashing past. “To transfer my household registration.”
Now it was Zhang Xiong’s turn to be surprised. “Transfer your household registration?”
Yun Su didn’t hide it, knowing his identity could be easily investigated. “My household registration isn’t at my current home. I need to transfer it out and change my name.”
Zhang Xiong immediately replied, “How could such a small matter require Mr. Yun’s personal intervention? I will make a call and have your household registration transferred and your name changed right away. You won’t need to worry about any of the follow-up procedures, Mr. Yun.”
Although Zhang Xiong was now just the butler for the An family, he had been a lieutenant in his youth and knew plenty of people in the military and political circles. For him, handling a small matter like transferring a registration and changing a name was an easy task.
“If that is the case, then I thank you for the trouble.”
“It is no trouble at all, as long as Mr. Yun doesn’t hold a grudge for my previous rudeness,” Zhang Xiong said respectfully. “By the way, Mr. Yun, where do you plan to transfer your registration to?”
Yun Su thought for a moment and said, “Just transfer it under the name of Yun Zechuan.”
Upstairs, some neighbors watched Yun Su leave in a luxury car and immediately began to gossip, their eyes filled with disdain.
At Jinxiu Villa.
“Mr. Yun, we have arrived.”
Yun Su got out and looked at the luxurious villa. He couldn’t help but sigh; money and status certainly had their perks. Before accepting An Ran as his disciple, Yun Su didn’t intend to probe into the An family’s identity. For now, they were simply in a relationship of mutual benefit, and he didn’t want to court unnecessary trouble. Knowing too much was never a good thing!
Entering the villa, Yun Su immediately noticed the difference in its arrangement. The entire space, from the rockery to the garden, was meticulously laid out; it was clearly designed by a master of Feng Shui. The villa faced south, backed by green mountains and facing the lake, with ample sunlight. There were even faint traces of spiritual energy gathering there. In a world where spiritual energy was so thin, this was a rare and precious place for cultivation. Although it didn’t even reach one-tenth of the spiritual energy of the Cangyuan Continent, it was already quite extraordinary for this world.
“Young Master Yun, you’re here. Grandfather is already waiting in the living room!” An Ran stood outside and walked up to greet him as soon as he entered.
Yun Su nodded toward her. “Miss An.”
“Young Master Yun, you can just call me by my name.”
As soon as Yun Su stepped into the living room, Elder An stood up with a smile. “Mr. Yun.”
Yun Su skipped the pleasantries. “Where are the prepared herbs?”
Elder An waved his hand, and two bodyguards walked in carrying a large chest. “The herbs are all here.”
Opening the chest, Yun Su saw it was packed with medicinal materials. He inspected them, the youngest was at least fifty years old, and some were even over two hundred. Although they didn’t quite reach his standard, they were sufficient to heal An Ran’s meridians. As for Elder An’s condition, it couldn’t be solved by a simple medicinal bath; he needed a Tier 3 “Heaven-Defying Pill,” which Yun Su couldn’t forge with his current spiritual cultivation. He would have to wait until he reached Level 7 of Qi Refining.
“Please prepare an empty room with a bathtub filled with hot water.”
The room was ready almost as soon as he spoke. Upon entering, Yun Su waved his hand, and all the herbs flew out of the chest. He picked out the dozen or so he needed for his own purposes and tossed the rest into the bathtub.
“Sit inside,” Yun Su said to An Ran.
An Ran hesitated, asking somewhat confusedly, “Do I not need to take off my clothes? In the dramas I’ve seen, medicinal baths always require taking off one’s clothes.”
Yun Su couldn’t help but twitch his lip. “No need. Those who require taking off clothes for treatment are just perverts.”
An Ran nodded. “So, when the male lead cures the female lead in those TV shows by taking off her clothes, it’s just to take advantage of her. As expected, men are all no good.”
Elder An: “…”
An Boyuan: “…”
Yun Su: “…” This has nothing to do with me! ~ ( ̄▽ ̄~)
