Obsessive Love, The Possessive Real Young Lady - Chapter 41
On the roadside.
Su Sui was tightly bound in the passenger seat, unable to move. Defeated, she could only turn her head to look at the scenery outside the window, gritting her teeth and secretly resolving that when she got back, she must find a personal trainer. If not, just eating more and gaining some weight would be good, so she wouldn’t be weaker than Shen Jiayan.
But Shen Jiayan clearly wasn’t thinking that much. She just glanced disdainfully at Su Sui and poked her forehead with her fingertip, saying, “You look sickly like Lin Daiyu. And you still dare to dream of snatching the steering wheel from me. Now you’re behaving, right?”
However, the more she looked at Su Sui’s suppressed and unwilling expression, the funnier Shen Jiayan found it.
“I warn you, don’t have any more bad ideas, or I’ll throw you out and go to the hospital alone,” Shen Jiayan glanced at her and sternly reminded her.
Seeing Su Sui still cold faced and silent, she decided to say no more and started the car towards the hospital.
About 50 minutes later, the car stopped near a supermarket close to the hospital.
Shen Jiayan went into the supermarket to pick out snacks Gao Wei liked. When checking out, she glanced at the lollipops on the counter and decided to buy one for Su Sui as well.
When she came out of the supermarket and was about to return to the car, she saw the tightly bound Su Sui already standing by the roadside waiting for her.
Did this lunatic learn some magic trick? How come every time she tied her up, this woman could break free?
Shen Jiayan frowned and was about to speak.
Then, Su Sui’s cold, eerie voice sounded in her ear, “Gao Wei is looking for you.”
Saying this, Su Sui handed her phone to Shen Jiayan.
Shen Jiayan, looking suspicious, took the phone and put it to her ear, “Hello, Ah Wei.”
Soon, Gao Wei’s voice came through the phone, “Sister, you and Su Sui should go back. I’m fine, you really don’t need to come accompany me, just go back quickly.”
Hearing Gao Wei say this, Shen Jiayan’s first reaction was to glare at Su Sui beside her.
This lunatic must have used some excuse to threaten Gao Wei, otherwise Gao Wei wouldn’t say such a thing.
“Ah Wei, what nonsense are you talking about? How could I…”
Before she could finish speaking, Gao Wei hurriedly stopped her, “What can you do if you come to the hospital? Since you can’t do anything, why do you still have to come?”
After a pause, she continued, “Sister, listen to me. Go back. I’ll come find you when I’m discharged from the hospital, okay?”
Gao Wei’s attitude was very firm, even carrying a hint of pleading.
This, in turn, strengthened Shen Jiayan’s suspicion. She glared furiously at Su Sui, shoved the still connected phone back into her hand, “Su Sui, I’m telling you. You can threaten me, but threatening Gao Wei! I will never forgive you in this lifetime!!”
After saying that, she abandoned Su Sui on the roadside and drove off towards the hospital alone.
Su Sui had wanted to stop her, but after a thought, she gave up.
She watched the little red car driving further and further away, a mocking smile curling on her lips. Then she said to Gao Wei on the phone, “I couldn’t stop her. You handle it yourself.”
With that, she hung up the phone.
In the hospital room.
Gao Wei, who was nearly unrecognizable after radiation therapy, lay weakly on the bed, her entire face so thin that almost only bones remained. She stared blankly at the ceiling, her gaze unfocused and without concentration.
The caregiver Auntie put the phone back in her pocket and turned around to silently wipe away her tears.
Thinking of this poor girl enduring the torment of illness alone, even though she had seen too much separation and death, she couldn’t help but feel heartbroken for her.
The caregiver brought the steaming chicken soup to Gao Wei’s lips, “Come on, drink some chicken soup.”
Gao Wei, however, mustered all her strength to pull the caregiver’s wrist and sit up, “Auntie, please help me to the restroom.”
“If you need to go, just use the bedpan, and I’ll empty it. You just finished radiation therapy; you need to rest in bed as much as possible.”
Gao Wei shook her head, “No, it’s because my sister is coming. I want to tidy myself up before she arrives. Otherwise, if she sees me like this, I’m afraid it will scare her.”
Hearing this, the caregiver Auntie was stunned for a moment, then smiled, “That’s fine too. It’s perfect! I have makeup in my bag, I guarantee I can make you look beautiful!”
So, she quickly helped Gao Wei up and walked towards the restroom.
Half an hour later, Shen Jiayan pushed open the door to Gao Wei’s room.
She saw Gao Wei wearing a wig and light makeup, leaning against the bed, sipping the soup brought by the caregiver bit by bit.
Upon seeing her, Gao Wei’s eyes curved into a smile, “Sister.”
But even though Gao Wei tried hard to pretend she was fine, Shen Jiayan could still see the evidence in her sunken eye sockets.
Gao Wei’s physical condition was likely at its absolute worst.
Shen Jiayan took a deep breath, trying to ignore the inexplicable pang of sadness in her heart. She placed the snacks and fruit to the side, walked up to Gao Wei’s bedside, gently stroked her back, and said with feigned ease, “It’s good that you still know I’m your sister.”
Gao Wei playfully stuck out her tongue.
Shen Jiayan took the chicken soup from the caregiver, “Auntie, I’ll do it. You go get some rest.” Then she sat on the edge of the bed, “Why are you only eating this? No wonder you’ve lost so much weight.”
But Gao Wei hadn’t just lost weight; she looked completely wasted.
Shen Jiayan suppressed the stinging sensation in her nose and spooned some chicken soup to Gao Wei’s lips, “Come on, be careful, it’s hot.”
Gao Wei obediently opened her mouth and drank it down.
“Thank you, Sister, I think it tastes very good.”
“Mhm, if it tastes good, drink more.”
As the two were talking, Shen Jiayan watched helplessly as bright red blood streamed from Gao Wei’s nostrils.
She had never seen nosebleeds flow like that gushing out like water from a faucet.
Instantly, she was so shocked that she didn’t know how to react.
Fortunately, the caregiver Auntie reacted quickly, immediately helping Gao Wei sit up, using a tissue to stop the bleeding while pressing the red button on the bedside. “Miss Shen, please step aside for a moment.”
Shen Jiayan froze for a moment, then stepped back a couple of paces.
In just a few seconds, nurses rushed in, followed by doctors.
Then, both she and the caregiver Auntie were ushered out of the room.
Sitting in the hallway, Shen Jiayan’s mind replayed the image of Gao Wei, with blood streaming from her nose, still telling her, “Sister, don’t be afraid. I’m fine, really fine.” Her eyes involuntarily moistened.
The caregiver Auntie glanced at her, patted her shoulder, “It’s okay, don’t worry. Once the doctor stops the bleeding, they’ll just give her a blood transfusion and treatment.”
“Ah Wei, has this been happening often recently?” Shen Jiayan asked the caregiver Auntie beside her in a low voice.
The caregiver Auntie sighed, “Yes, radiation therapy three times a week. Because of that, her body is very weak, and she has severe post-operative reactions. She has no appetite and throws up almost everything she eats.”
“You shouldn’t have come. Little Gao, she… she least wants you to see her like this. For that reason, she even…” But she stopped herself before finishing her words, “Sigh… Forget it, forget it.”
These words, however, struck Shen Jiayan like countless dense needles, piercing her flesh and stabbing into her vital organs.
She wanted to be Gao Wei’s support, but she never expected that Gao Wei, enduring the torment of illness, was still thinking of her. The one who was terminally ill and needed protection and companionship every moment was worrying about others being sad seeing her wretched appearance! How could there be such a foolish person in the world?
Standing at the end of the corridor, silently watching her cry, was Su Sui, who also couldn’t figure this out.
Gao Wei’s frail face involuntarily appeared in her mind.
That day, she was speeding down the highway. Gao Wei, sitting in the passenger seat, suddenly smiled with curved eyes and said to her, “Since you insist on taking us back to City M, then as a condition, you have to do something for me too.”
She hadn’t expected that someone who was already a bargaining chip would dare to set conditions for her, so she patiently listened. The condition was merely that during her hospitalization for radiation therapy, Shen Jiayan was not allowed to visit. At that time, she found it ridiculous. Even if Gao Wei hadn’t made this condition, she wouldn’t have let Shen Jiayan leave her side for a moment. So, to grant Gao Wei a favor, she readily agreed. Now it seemed she had underestimated Gao Wei, this love rival. This tactic of retreating to advance was far more skillful than her usual assertive approach; it was something worth learning.
Musing over this, she curved her lips and walked towards Shen Jiayan.
Shen Jiayan, lost in grief, abruptly looked up when she heard the familiar footsteps and indeed saw Su Sui’s figure. She frowned instinctively. If Su Sui hadn’t stopped her during this period, Gao Wei wouldn’t have had to face all this alone. Su Sui following her now could only mean she wanted to take her back to the Shen family villa. How selfish and hateful!
Shen Jiayan stood up, about to retort, but Su Sui’s gaze drifted right past her and landed on the caregiver Auntie. “How is the situation?”
The caregiver was startled, then repeated what she had just said.
Su Sui pretended to ponder for a moment, then took out a bank card from her bag and handed it to the caregiver. “Auntie, there is 50,000 yuan in this card. It’s a hardship fee on top of your salary. I’ll have to trouble you to take extra care of her from now on.”
The caregiver Auntie accepted the card somewhat bashfully, “Thank you, Miss Su.”
Shen Jiayan, watching from the side, had a subtle change in her expression.
?? What scheme was she plotting now?
Shen Jiayan grew secretly vigilant, watching Su Sui intently, trying to find a flaw. Unfortunately, she watched for a long time without discerning any clue. Instead, she saw Su Sui sit down beside her with a composed expression.
Su Sui said, “Why are you looking at me with such a strange look?”
Shen Jiayan replied, “That’s because you’re doing something strange.”
“What’s strange about it?”
“What’s not strange about it?” Shen Jiayan narrowed her eyes, her deep blue eyes staring intensely at Su Sui, “Someone like you, with no empathy, how could you possibly appreciate someone else’s hard work? And you’ve always only cared about the people and things you care about, so how could you possibly care about Gao Wei’s condition?”
“Let me make this clear today. Even if you die here now, I won’t leave the hospital to send your body back to the Shen family.”
Su Sui seemed completely unaffected by the intense anger in Shen Jiayan’s tone and instead smiled.
“You’re right, I only care about the people and things I care about. But the person I care about right now has her entire heart and eyes set on another woman. No matter what means I use, I can’t make her look back at me.”
She paused, the smile on her lips gradually fading, a faint sadness flickering in her eyes, “So, I have no choice but to care about everything she cares about, even forcing myself to accept this reality that is harder for me than death. Is that not enough, Shen Jiayan?”
