Obsessive Love, The Possessive Real Young Lady - Chapter 26
Shen Jiayan sighed, took out the Buddha amulet from her pocket, and held it up to examine it in the light.
Under the light, the amulet emitted a soft glow, reflecting on her cheekbones, which only made the paleness of her face seem even more pronounced. Her eyes were dull, her lips were dry, and her entire face was etched with exhaustion.
She gave a self mocking laugh and said, “To ensure safety? Right now, even eating and sleeping is a problem for me. What use is this ‘safety’?”
However, beneath the smile lay an undeniable sorrow and bitterness.
The amulet swayed in Shen Jiayan’s hand for a moment before being cupped in her palm, but her gaze remained fixed on a distant point.
“You are truly free,” she murmured softly, tracing the patterns on the amulet with her fingertips. “But you threw all the bitter fruit for me to bear.”
“They all say that a mother’s love is the greatest affection, but now, this great affection is crushing me to the point where I can’t bear it anymore.”
As she spoke, a sourness welled up in Shen Jiayan’s nose, and tears inevitably began to fall. “What’s so great about you?! My life, the fact that it was wrong from the very beginning, was all caused by you!”
“But why do I have to bear all the guilt?!” she questioned the dark water, “Why can you just walk away easily, while I… I have to endure this pain?!”
“I didn’t do anything wrong! If you hadn’t switched me with her back then, my fate wouldn’t have turned out like this today!”
“My love, my dreams, my life, my future all ruined! This is all because of you!”
“How could you be so malicious? So selfish? So self-righteous?”
Shen Jiayan’s voice grew louder and more agitated, finally erupting into a shout.
Her left eye gradually turned blood-red, her gaze filled with deep indignation and resentment. Her hands clenched into fists, veins bulging, and she ground her teeth, saying, “Su Lu! I hate you! I utterly hate you!”
“And Shen Wenshan!! I hate you too! Why did you use me to pave the way for your beloved daughter! I have flesh and blood too! At least I once truly loved and respected you!”
She leaned almost half of her body over the railing, as if she might plunge into the water at any moment.
Shen Jiayan cried out again and again, her voice hoarse and trembling.
But no matter how fiercely she cursed, she couldn’t fully vent the hatred in her heart.
Instead, the iron bridge railing creaked under her agitated emotion, seeming as if it could collapse at any moment.
At that moment, Gao Wei stood at the head of the bridge, out of breath, watching her.
“Oh dear, 100,000 yuan she’s not thinking of jumping into the river, is she?”
Just as she frowned and muttered this, Shen Jiayan had already climbed over the railing and bent down.
Seeing this, Gao Wei muttered, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. Stop, stop, stop…” while rushing toward Shen Jiayan.
Shen Jiayan was desperately holding onto the railing, trying to reach the Buddha amulet that had accidentally fallen onto the edge of the bridge, when she heard a woman’s voice from behind her.
“Dear please don’t do anything rash! There’s nothing we can’t get over! Don’t…”
Immediately following this, an impact struck, causing the aged iron railing to creak once, and then break off with a loud crash.
“Ah!”
Two screams rang out simultaneously one from Gao Wei, the other from Shen Jiayan.
Shen Jiayan clung tightly to the railing, feeling an intense, almost fractured pain in her ankle.
She looked down at the culprit who had knocked her off balance the person was tightly gripping her leg, trembling all over.
Gao Wei looked down at the rushing river below and swallowed hard in lingering fear.
She thought: Oh my god, if I had fallen, I definitely would have drowned!
Her voice trembled, “Why on earth would you want to end your life when living is so much better? Now look, I’m even going to be the cushion for your fall.”
But then she realized something was wrong. The 100,000 yuan person was already emotionally unstable, plus she was clearly not thinking straight. If she got even more agitated by what she said, she might completely let go, and then she really would die.
Gao Wei changed her tone and switched to consolation mode, “Actually, you know, it’s really not worth throwing your life away over a small setback. Life is still beautiful…”
But these words sounded particularly jarring to Shen Jiayan, who was barely supporting both their weights.
This silly woman had clearly rushed out and bumped her, causing the situation.
How dare she say she was trying to end her life?!
Shen Jiayan gritted her teeth and retorted, “Which of your eyes saw me trying to end my life?”
Gao Wei blinked at her, “I saw it with both my eyes!! Out here late at night, on a deserted, old, broken bridge, climbing over the railing what else would you be doing but trying to jump into the river? Unless you were trying to jump in for a bath, or to catch fish, or maybe just for some thrills?”
After hearing this explanation, Shen Jiayan was almost brought to laughter by this woman, “I’d have to be crazy to choose jumping into the river!!”
Having just run out of the sanatorium, how clear could her mind be?
But Gao Wei only dared to think this in her own mind.
If she said it out loud, she might anger the ‘100,000 yuan’ person, and she wouldn’t get off lightly.
She glanced up at Shen Jiayan, saw her face shift between anger and gloom, felt a pang of panic, and forced a smile that looked uglier than a cry, trying to salvage the situation. “Yes, yes, yes, I was blind and misunderstood you. You are magnanimous, please don’t hold it against me.”
Shen Jiayan ignored her and continued to stare at the dark, cold water, her expression showing deep fatigue.
To exert maximum effort, her fingertips were almost digging into her palm in pain. But she felt herself growing weak, feeling that her arm could give way at any second.
As expected, her left hand began to tremble uncontrollably, her entire arm was almost numb and senseless, unable to provide much strength, and finally, it completely gave out.
As her left hand dropped, her body swayed slightly.
Gao Wei, who was clinging to her ankle, cried out in alarm, “Hold on tight!! Don’t let go!! Mama Director, I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die, Mama Director!”
“Shut up!!”
Shen Jiayan roared, her beautiful face twisted in rage.
“I’m telling you, I will not die!” she said through gritted teeth.
“How can I be willing to die before Shen Wenshan gets his retribution? Those who used me, lied to me, and hurt me are still living well why should I die first!!”
“Then what do you want to do?” Gao Wei asked stutteringly.
“Hmph!” Shen Jiayan glanced at her with disdain, then slowly lifted her other foot and kicked hard.
Gao Wei, completely unguarded, was kicked into the river!
With a “Plop,” water splashed everywhere.
Gao Wei fell into the river, struggled and thrashed a few times, but it was useless.
“Ah!!” Gao Wei let out a sharp scream, “Help… ugh, help… wheeze…”
However, the surroundings were completely empty, except for the rustling of leaves in the wind and the gurgling sound of flowing water.
Her vision was obscured. She beat the water desperately, trying to surface, but every time she was just short, and she would sink.
No! I don’t want to die! Mama Director, save me! Just as her thoughts were racing, a huge splash hit the water beside her, and the resulting wave knocked her under.
Just as Gao Wei felt that this time she was truly done for, she felt a sharp pain on her head, and a force pulled her out of the water.
She greedily inhaled the long-missed oxygen but choked on the water and began to cough.
“So stupid,” Shen Jiayan, now wearing a life buoy, mocked.
Gao Wei opened her wet eyes. Although the words sounded like a scolding, the tone was gentle and pleasant, not at all vicious, more like a gentle chiding.
I can’t believe this slightly crazy rich young lady has such a kind heart.
But this thought only lasted for a second before her scalp started throbbing painfully, making her grimace. “Ahhh, it hurts! L-cough cough… gently!”
“Shut your mouth, and you’ll swallow less water.”
One hour later, Shen Jiayan, dripping wet, stood in a small room of less than 10 square meters, in a relatively clean and not too crowded corner, looking around.
The room contained only one bed, a beanbag chair, a small round coffee table, and a stool. The entire space felt cramped and crowded.
And in this space, there were five fluffy little animals.
The two dogs and three cats were currently gathered around Gao Wei, who was curled up in a blanket on the bed, shivering.
Shen Jiayan looked at the woman in front of her, who was as thin and pale as Su Sui…
No, in fact, she looked even more frail than Su Sui.
Su Sui gave the impression of a porcelain doll that could be crushed with a little force, but the cost of crushing her would be a bloody mess.
This woman, under her bright red short hair, stared with dark, bright eyes. She looked as fragile as a tender sprout peeking out of the soil.
Especially her sickly appearance when she pulled the other person out of the river. It made Shen Jiayan feel that her very existence in this world was an immense torment.
However, she looks quite easy to bully. Borrowing some money from her, getting a few clothes… she probably won’t refuse, right?
Shen Jiayan walked closer with this thought, looking down at the trembling woman on the bed, and curved her lips into a smile.
The other woman lazily lifted her eyelids and said, “There are instant noodles in the cabinet.” Then she pointed in a direction. “You can make do to fill your stomach. I really don’t have the energy to take care of you.”
“And feed these little darlings for me while you’re at it. Never mind, for someone like you, a rich second-generation kid who hasn’t suffered and has a disordered mind, it’ll be a miracle if you can take care of yourself. Don’t worry about them.”
Her voice grew softer and softer, so quiet that Shen Jiayan almost had to lean in to hear.
Her tone, full of disdain, truly displeased Shen Jiayan.
“Hey, who are you calling mentally unstable?”
“…”
The other person gave no more response.
What’s going on? Did she just fall asleep?
Shen Jiayan tentatively poked her forehead with a finger and realized she was burning up with fever.
Not only that, but she could smell a faint scent of blood under her nose.
Shen Jiayan frowned, immediately lifted the blanket off her, and saw that the bedsheet was already soaked with blood.
There was a clear wound on her lower leg—the gash wasn’t deep, likely just a scrape.
But what Shen Jiayan couldn’t understand was that such an injury shouldn’t be bleeding non-stop.
“Hey, hey, wake up!” Shen Jiayan shook her shoulder vigorously. “Wake up! Wake up!”
But the other person didn’t even flutter her eyelashes, let alone open her eyes to look at her.
Could this person just die like this?
