Obsessive Love, The Possessive Real Young Lady - Chapter 17
In the hospital room.
Su’s mother sat by the bed with her head lowered, lost in thought.
Shen Jiayan leaned against the wall in the corner, her eyes fixed on Su Sui, who was lying on the bed and having blood drawn by a nurse.
Three hours had passed since Su Sui was wheeled out of the emergency room, but she remained in a deep sleep.
Even now, as her slender arm was held by the nurse drawing blood, there was no sign of waking. If it weren’t for the constant beeping of the monitoring equipment, reminding everyone that she still had vital signs, Shen Jiayan would have thought Su Sui was already gone, or at the very least, a vegetable.
Because of this, she had run to the doctor’s office five times. And each time the answer she received was: “The patient lost a lot of blood and is very weak. It is completely normal for her to sleep for several hours.”
She didn’t understand why she was so agitated.
Perhaps it was because she was so desperate to find out exactly what had happened to Su Sui last night.
Why did Su Sui injure herself so badly without her permission, and almost… almost leave her.
The light fell on Su Sui’s pale face. Her lips were bruised, and a thick gauze was wrapped around her forehead. Furthermore, almost all of her exposed skin bore injuries of varying degrees.
There were long, thin scratches, bruises caused by heavy impact, stab wounds of different depths, and the marks she herself had left on Su Sui’s back…
In a daze, it made Shen Jiayan feel as if Su Sui was as fragile as a piece of candy wrapper, that a slight touch would make her crumble into dust and vanish into the air.
Shen Jiayan’s heart felt as if it had been suddenly squeezed, a painful sensation.
She took a deep breath and looked away, trying to ease the pain in her chest, but the more she tried not to think about it, the more complicated her feelings became.
She didn’t understand. It was clearly Su Sui who had betrayed her trust and broken the vows they had made.
Her current state should be a deserved consequence, and she ought to be delighted.
But why was she so distraught when she heard the news of Su Sui’s injury?
When she saw Su Sui lying bruised and unconscious on the bed, why couldn’t she even ignore it? Why did she feel guilt, self-reproach, and why did her heart clench with pain?
She wasn’t the one who was wrong.
The one who was wrong was Su Sui, that hypocritical liar.
Why was she engaging in such internal self-questioning and torment?
Shen Jiayan cursed inwardly, gritted her teeth, and turned her head towards the window, trying to avoid looking at Su Sui’s pale face again.
But the next second, her eyes involuntarily drifted back to the hospital bed.
Angered, Shen Jiayan muttered a curse.
After drawing blood, the nurse left with the syringe, taking Su’s mother with her, supposedly to complete some paperwork.
There was no one next to Su Sui.
Shen Jiayan finally walked over, leaned down, and examined her closely.
She frowned slightly, extended her index finger, and poked her face. A cold sensation transmitted back.
“Hmm…”
The Su Sui under her finger immediately let out an indistinct sound, her eyelashes fluttering, as if she were about to wake up.
Shen Jiayan immediately stood up, took two steps back, and the next moment, their eyes met.
Her heart rate instantly accelerated, so fast that she could almost hear her own heartbeat.
Shen Jiayan thought to herself: Ridiculous! The nurse stuck her with a needle, and she didn’t wake up. I only poked her with my finger, and she woke up??
Or was Su Sui deliberately pretending to be unconscious to elicit her pity?
Given Su Sui’s unpredictable nature, it was highly possible.
Shen Jiayan collected her thoughts and scoffed, “What? Aren’t you going to keep pretending…”
Before she could finish her sentence, she saw Su Sui struggling to sit up in bed, then slowly and tremblingly moving towards her.
She instinctively wanted to stop her but ultimately suppressed the impulse. She maintained a cold and arrogant demeanor, silently watching Su Sui’s self-inflicted misery.
She walked with difficulty, as if every step was taken on the tip of a knife. Yet, she only frowned and clutched the wound on her abdomen, showing no intention of stopping.
Until their distance became increasingly small.
So close that Shen Jiayan could smell the faint, bookish scent that was unique to Su Sui.
“Jiayan…” Su Sui finally stopped, standing one step away from her, looking up at her.
Those beautiful eyes were still calm and unwavering.
But for some reason, Shen Jiayan felt a hint of sorrow in her eyes.
She didn’t understand where this sorrow came from, nor did she want to delve into it.
She pursed her lips and looked away, “What do you want to do? Do you want to try to gain my sympathy?”
“No…”
“No?” Shen Jiayan raised an eyebrow, “Then what do you want?”
Su Sui did not answer, she just stood still and looked at her.
Having experienced near-death, Su Sui recognized more clearly the position Shen Jiayan held in her heart.
When she was knocked out by Chen Qianqian, she thought of Shen Jiayan.
When she woke up in the car with those men, she was still thinking of Shen Jiayan.
Even when she was fighting for her life with those men with knives, when she bit off one of their ears and jumped out of the car, when she dragged her injured body back to the villa, lay in the courtyard and was cursed by Su’s mother to die quickly with cold indifference, and when she completely passed out.
Her mind was constantly repeating: Shen Jiayan, where did she go? Did something bad happen to her like it did to me? Is she safe? I must find her.
The moment she opened her eyes and saw Shen Jiayan appear before her, safe and sound. She was extremely happy.
So happy that she wanted to hold Shen Jiayan in her arms, even if only for a second, even if only to say to her: “I’m glad you’re alright.”
But Shen Jiayan’s cold face undoubtedly told her.
The barrier between them had not vanished.
Su Sui could only try her best to restrain the urge to hold Shen Jiayan.
“Nothing… I just wanted to call out to you.”
Her tone was very light, and even her breath seemed somewhat ethereal.
But even so, Shen Jiayan still detected an abnormal hoarseness, as if her throat had been cut.
She couldn’t help but frown, and her gaze towards Su Sui involuntarily softened.
“Do you think I would still believe you now?”
But the words that came out of her mouth were still sharp as a knife, fiercely stabbing into Su Sui’s heart.
Su Sui lowered her head, was silent for a moment, then said, “It is my fault that I hid things from you. And I’m very sorry that I can’t tell you everything, being completely open with you. But I never had any intention of harming you. If you don’t believe me…”
As she spoke, she raised her head, stepped closer to Shen Jiayan, and took the other’s hand and placed it on her own bruised neck: “You can kill me right now, because your distrust is more unbearable to me than death.”
Shen Jiayan stared blankly at Su Sui.
Her expression was serious, and even the force with which she held her palm was incredibly firm and strong, as if she wanted to crush her.
Su Sui… she meant it!
That was undeniable.
But… why?
What kind of matter could be more important than her life?
Shen Jiayan was at a loss.
She gazed at Su Sui’s pale face, then suddenly frowned.
Something was not right!
Shen Jiayan had a vague feeling that the matter Su Sui was painstakingly concealing must be related to her, and the connection was deep.
Just as she was about to ask, the hospital room door was pushed open.
Shen Wenshan entered, accompanied by two police officers, having just returned from checking the surveillance at the villa.
Seeing the scene before them, the police officers were first stunned, then quickly reacted, immediately ordering Shen Jiayan, “Don’t move, let go of her.”
Seeing that the police had misunderstood, Su Sui quickly released Shen Jiayan’s hand that was gripping her own neck. Before either of them could explain.
The police officers rushed over, firmly restraining Shen Jiayan, “Be honest, don’t move.”
As they spoke, they twisted her arms behind her back and handcuffed her.
Shen Jiayan glared angrily at Su Sui, then turned to the police, quickly explaining, “No, you’ve misunderstood. She grabbed my hand and was choking herself!”
Su Sui pushed Shen Wenshan, who had rushed to her side, and hurried to the police, “Yes, you’ve misunderstood. I was demonstrating to her what happened last night.”
The police officers exchanged glances, then looked at Shen Jiayan’s wrist, which indeed had red marks from being squeezed. They somewhat awkwardly unlocked the handcuffs and gave them a lecture.
Then they steered the conversation back to the main topic.
“Ms. Su Sui, we received a report this morning from Mr. Shen that you were involved in a violent incident. We also checked the surveillance at the scene and interviewed nearby neighbors and merchants, but we didn’t find any trace of the suspect. So, can you tell us what happened?”
“You must be truthful,” another police officer added, “If there are any details you conceal from us, you will be held legally responsible.”
Listening to the two police officers, Su Sui and Shen Jiayan exchanged a look, both seeing a complex expression in the other’s eyes.
Su Sui quickly turned her head, “I understand.”
Just before she spoke, the police asked both Shen Jiayan and Shen Wenshan to step outside.
Shen Jiayan stood outside the door, looking at her father’s usually stern face, which now showed a rare hint of embarrassment, and her heart softened.
“Dad, let’s go wait over there.”
Shen Wenshan didn’t speak, but his feet moved in the direction Shen Jiayan pointed.
In the hospital corridor, Shen Jiayan and her father sat quietly, separated by an empty chair.
In her memory, she had never sat with her father like this, and for so long.
Thinking of this, Shen Jiayan couldn’t help but turn her head to look at Shen Wenshan.
His profile was sharply defined, his nose high, and his eye sockets deep.
Although his temples were already streaked with gray, he still exuded the unique charm of a mature man.
He must have been incredibly handsome when he was younger.
What she didn’t understand was why such an elegant and handsome father always held such great malice toward her, yet could be so deeply caring toward a younger person who was not related to him at all.
If the person whose life was hanging by a thread today had been her. Would her father’s attitude also be this concerned, this caring?
Shen Jiayan was so eager to know the answer, so eager to know what she lacked compared to Su Sui all these years?
Or, what exactly did she do wrong? That caused him to ignore her, to abandon her in that seemingly luxurious cage.
“Dad.” Shen Jiayan finally couldn’t hold back and called out proactively.
Shen Wenshan turned his head and gave her a calm look.
Shen Jiayan pursed her lips, considered for a moment, and then cautiously asked, “Dad, why don’t you like me?”
