My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 85
The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
If she were alone at University A, her presence would carry too little weight. But if she brought Yaoyao along, plus Dahuang, her sister would surely be tempted to visit her.
With this in mind, she watched Yaoyao snuggling and acting cute in her sister’s arms, slowly forming a plan.
After all, her sister had said back then that Yaoyao was a gift for her, hadn’t she?
It wasn’t until the day before departure that Shen Baiyi finally brought up her wish to take Yaoyao and Dahuang along.
“Take Yaoyao and Dahuang?” Zheng Yao looked surprised, instinctively frowning. “Why would you want to bring Yaoyao and Dahuang?”
“I’ll be too lonely living there alone, and you won’t come keep me company, so I can only have Yaoyao accompany me,” Shen Baiyi said with a soft sigh. “Besides, it’s too much for you to take care of a dog and two cats all by yourself. I have more free time as a college student.”
Zheng Yao: “…”
One sentence after another left Zheng Yao with no room for rebuttal. It sounded so pitiful that the image of Shen Baiyi all alone immediately surfaced in her mind.
“You’ll be busy and tired with military training at the start of the semester,” Zheng Yao said, her brow furrowed tightly. “And you probably haven’t prepared everything yet. Let’s bring Yaoyao and Dahuang over after some time.”
During military training, Shen Baiyi would be staying in the dormitory, which wasn’t suitable for keeping pets.
“Okay,” Shen Baiyi nodded obediently. “I’ll do as you say.”
She wasn’t in a hurry.
The next day, Zheng Yao took Bub and Yaoyao to Zhuang Liulan’s pet hospital for boarding again. The staff there were already familiar with her. After completing all the procedures without seeing Zhuang Liulan around, Zheng Yao asked curiously, “Has Dr. Zhuang already taken leave?”
Had she sent Zhuang Yang off to school so soon?
“Our Dr. Zhuang hasn’t been back for over half a month,” the staff member stuck out her tongue playfully. “Everyone says she went back to inherit the family fortune and is staying behind the scenes as the boss now.”
Huh?
A look of surprise flashed across Zheng Yao’s face, and she immediately recalled the ex-girlfriend Shen Baiyi had mentioned once before.
Could Dr. Zhuang have skipped work for love?
Thinking of Zhuang Liulan’s calm and composed face, she found it hard to believe.
When she got home, she sent a message to Zhuang Liulan. If Zhuang Liulan was already near University A, she could ask if she had time for a meal together.
Zhuang Liulan replied quickly, confirming she was indeed there, but declined the meal invitation for now, citing some personal matters.
Personal matters…
Could Dr. Zhuang really have abandoned work for love?
The thought sparked a renewed sense of admiration for Dr. Zhuang. She seemed like the type who dared to love and hate, handling relationships with perfect balance.
“Sister, why are you so distracted?” Shen Baiyi waved a hand in front of her sister’s eyes.
Snapping back to reality, Zheng Yao took a step back. Instead of answering, she asked, “Have you packed everything?”
If Shen Baiyi knew she was thinking about Zhuang Liulan, her jealousy would flare up again.
She hadn’t realized it before, but Shen Baiyi, despite appearing well-behaved and sensible, was actually quite the jealous type. What’s more, sometimes even when she was jealous, she kept it quiet and sulked pitifully something that had gone unnoticed in the past.
It was fine not having noticed before, but once I did, it was like gaining a third eye every time after that, I seemed to notice it.
And it was inexplicably distracting.
“All packed,” Shen Baiyi nodded, staring at her sister for a few seconds before suddenly asking, “Did you see Dr. Zhuang at the pet hospital, sis?”
Her tone was casual, as if she had just brought it up offhandedly.
“No,” Zheng Yao shook her head. “They said she hasn’t been to the hospital lately because of personal matters.”
Hearing this, Shen Baiyi’s eyes flickered slightly.
She curved her lips into a smile. “You probably don’t know, sis Dr. Zhuang has been busy chasing her ex-girlfriend lately.”
“You sound so sure. Did you go gossip with Zhuang Yang?” Zheng Yao found it amusing. She didn’t usually see Shen Baiyi so well-informed about Zhuang Liulian’s affairs.
“Zhuang Yang came to me for advice,” Shen Baiyi lifted her chin, hesitating briefly before speaking. In the end, she didn’t divulge too much about someone else’s private matters, only stating confidently to her sister, “Zhuang Yang is going all out to help her sister win back her ex-girlfriend.”
After saying this, she watched her sister’s reaction closely.
Zheng Yao! Zheng Yao showed no particular reaction, merely nodding. “I see. That’s good.”
Shen Baiyi instinctively pressed her lips together.
If her sister cared, she’d be unhappy; if her sister didn’t care, she still wasn’t pleased. Instead, she thought of herself, her sister had clearly considered being with Dr. Zhuang before, and after knowing her for so many years, she showed no reaction upon hearing that Dr. Zhuang was pursuing someone else.
Thinking it over carefully, she realized her sister had never seemed jealous over her either.
Did it mean she didn’t care?
“What’s wrong? Are you unhappy?” Seeing Shen Baiyi distracted, Zheng Yao was somewhat surprised. She had thought her reaction would put Shen Baiyi more at ease.
“No,” Shen Baiyi quickly denied.
Unwilling to lie to her sister, she didn’t elaborate and changed the subject instead. “Sis, is there anything else you need to bring?”
Zheng Yao’s attention was successfully diverted. Although Shen Baiyi was quite reliable, Zheng Yao couldn’t help but fuss over her younger companion. She checked the items Shen Baiyi had packed, added a few more things, and only then were they ready to leave.
Having woken up late and eaten a late breakfast, Zheng Yao wasn’t hungry yet, so they could grab a bite after arriving.
Perhaps because she was well-rested and familiar with the route, the drive felt less exhausting than last time and even took slightly less time.
“Sis, I’ve cleaned the bedroom. You go rest first, and I’ll unpack,” Shen Baiyi said, raising her hands to grip her sister’s shoulders and gently pushing her toward the bedroom.
“I’m not tired yet,” Zheng Yao replied, amused. She wasn’t so worn out from just over an hour of driving. “Two people are better than one. Let’s finish unpacking sooner, then take your things to the university and check out your dorm.”
Once Zheng Yao made up her mind, it was hard to change, so Shen Baiyi didn’t argue. She loved doing anything and everything with her sister.
Fortunately, they had tidied up thoroughly last time, so there was hardly anything left to do. Soon, they set off for A University with Shen Baiyi’s belongings.
The class assignments had already been posted, and Shen Baiyi had joined the class group chat, where she learned her dorm number.
Zheng Yao was fairly familiar with the campus and quickly drove them to the dormitory building.
The campus was already bustling with activity. Many returning students had begun welcoming freshmen, helping them carry suitcases and bags. As soon as Zheng Yao and Shen Baiyi got out of the car, several people gathered around them.
“Hey there, freshmen! Which dorm building are you in? Need any help?”
Seeing the unique youthful energy and vitality on their faces, Zheng Yao glanced at Shen Baiyi. Though Shen Baiyi was young, her face carried a maturity and steadiness beyond her years.
Indeed, children from poor families mature early. Even though Shen Baiyi hadn’t regained her memories yet, the traits ingrained in her bones remained unchanged.
They did have quite a lot of belongings, so Zheng Yao didn’t refuse their help, taking Shen Baiyi’s things out from the trunk.
Along the way, the group was enthusiastic and talkative.
“Are you the freshman’s family member? Wow, you’re so beautiful! Are you two sisters? Your family genes are really great!”
Shen Baiyi’s eyes darkened with gloom. She quickly glanced at her sister and said stiffly, “We’re not sisters.”
It was clear she was becoming upset.
Zheng Yao wasn’t foolish and could naturally sense her displeasure. She immediately put down the things she was carrying, first taking Shen Baiyi’s hand, then slightly lifting her chin. “I’m her girlfriend.”
Her open and confident attitude made everyone freeze for a moment, followed by an overwhelming wave of awkwardness.
Especially the person who had brought up the topic, who forced out an awkward laugh, unsure of what to say.
Fortunately, they had reached the dormitory. Standing in front of the dorm door, Zheng Yao thanked the group again, but they were still clearly embarrassed. Before she could finish speaking, they put down the belongings and hurried away.
“Sister, won’t saying that just now cause any trouble for you?” Shen Baiyi asked as she bent down to pick up the things.
How to put it?
It was a bit manipulative, but somehow adorable.
Zheng Yao looked at her with a smile. “What, don’t you like it?”
She said deliberately, “Then from now on, I won’t tell others about our real relationship. How about we act like sisters in public?”
As soon as she finished speaking, her hand was grasped by Shen Baiyi.
“Sister!” Shen Baiyi called out warningly, “If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll get angry.”
“Really?” Zheng Yao chuckled, “I thought your tail was wagging so high you wouldn’t even have time to be angry.”
Her teasing made Shen Baiyi blush, the confidence she had mustered earlier instantly deflating. She couldn’t help but retort, “Sister, can’t I even be happy?”
“Who said that?” Zheng Yao said matter-of-factly, “Didn’t I say those things just to make you happy?”
This left Shen Baiyi speechless, a smile tugging uncontrollably at the corners of her lips.
Seeing that she had successfully cheered her up, Zheng Yao lightly knocked on the dorm room door with the things in her hand, then opened it.
Two people were already sitting at their desks inside.
“Wow! A new roommate!” The short-haired girl near the door stood up with a face full of excitement, her gaze falling on Shen Baiyi. “Are you Shen Baiyi or Du Xuanxuan?”
“Shen Baiyi.” With her sister around, Shen Baiyi had always been the well-behaved one.
“Hello, Shen Baiyi.” The short-haired girl smiled warmly. “I’m Wang Zhen.”
“Mm, hello.”
Shen Baiyi withdrew her gaze disinterestedly, scanning the names posted in front of the beds. Her bed was behind the door. Though it hadn’t been tidied yet, it looked quite clean.
Feeling relieved, she took out a wet wipe to clean the stool first, then pushed it behind her sister. “Sister, sit down first. I’ll finish quickly.”
Zheng Yao had intended to help out, but climbing those few flights of stairs proved too much for her lack of exercise. The stool behind her was too tempting her legs gave way and she simply sat down.
Meanwhile, Shen Baiyi was already briskly tidying up. They hadn’t brought too many things, mostly bedding and daily necessities. After roughly wiping the beds and desks clean and arranging their belongings, the task was nearly complete.
After all, they only needed to stay for a month to get through military training.
By the time they finished packing and prepared to leave, the girl playing games in the corner finally stood up to greet them: “Hello, Shen Baiyi. I’m Li Yueqin. Sorry, I was just gaming earlier.”
Shen Baiyi responded indifferently, “No problem.”
Everyone in Shen Baiyi’s dorm seemed quite easy to get along with, which eased Zheng Yao’s worries slightly.
