My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 84
Seeing Shen Baiyi about to speak, Zhuang Yang quickly made a shushing gesture and cautiously signaled for Shen Baiyi to quickly close the door.
Shen Baiyi quietly pushed the door shut, leaving, as before, a small crack.
After placing the fruit on the living room table, she turned around to find Zhuang Yang still crouched by the door, her ear almost pressed against it as if listening for any movement outside.
Shen Baiyi remained silent for a few seconds before standing by the table and asking, “Are you eavesdropping?”
She hadn’t deliberately lowered her voice, but the distance was far and her voice wasn’t particularly loud, so logically, those outside shouldn’t have been able to hear. However, Zhuang Yang, feeling guilty, rushed over to cover Shen Baiyi’s mouth: “Keep your voice down!”
Shen Baiyi, of course, didn’t let her succeed. She turned her head away to avoid the touch and took a few steps back before asking, “Who is that person?”
Mindful of Zhuang Yang’s guilty conscience, she lowered her voice this time.
Zhuang Yang’s expression turned strange, and after hesitating for a long while, she muttered, “My sister’s ex-girlfriend.”
Shen Baiyi: “…”
What a juicy piece of gossip.
She suddenly regretted not inviting her sister along.
Seeing Shen Baiyi’s odd expression and prolonged silence, Zhuang Yang pressed her lips together: “What are you thinking?”
If Shen Baiyi looked down on her sister, she would cut ties with her!
“So you’ve become neighbors with your sister’s ex-girlfriend?” Shen Baiyi looked up. “Is your sister planning to rekindle their old flame?”
Zhuang Yang was taken aback by Shen Baiyi’s train of thought. After a few seconds of silence, she couldn’t help but notice a hint of excitement in Shen Baiyi’s tone, and even her expression seemed to brighten.
“I don’t know,” Zhuang Yang shook her head. “But my sister had a strong reaction when she saw Shuya.”
Shuya?
Shen Baiyi silently noted the name and smiled slightly. “Your sister’s ex-girlfriend is very beautiful. They make a good match.”
At the mention of Zhuang Liulan’s ex-girlfriend, Zhuang Yang grew animated: “Of course! Shuya isn’t just good-looking she’s incredibly smart and capable. Even though she can’t walk, she can do anything. She’s a top-tier genius.”
Zhuang Yang clearly adored this person named Shuya, her tone full of admiration.
She really liked that Shuya.
Shen Baiyi’s smile deepened. “Yes, she’s quite impressive. Dr. Zhuang isn’t bad either. They’re a good match.”
“Right?!” Zhuang Yang felt as if she had found an ally, though she also seemed a bit embarrassed, her voice softening slightly. At the same time, she sounded regretful: “It’s just a shame my mom didn’t approve back then. They broke up a long time ago.”
“So what?” Shen Baiyi said quickly. “If both your sister and the other person are single, then anything is possible.”
After a pause, she added slowly, “Even if the other person isn’t single, anything is still possible.”
After all, if her sister had a girlfriend, she was confident she could win her over.
“But…” Zhuang Yang hesitated, about to say something, when suddenly there was a noise at the door her sister had come in.
Zhuang Yang immediately swallowed her words and pretended nothing was wrong. “Sister, Baiyi brought over some fruit.”
As she spoke, she tugged at Shen Baiyi’s sleeve.
Seeing Zhuang Yang looking guilty again, Shen Baiyi sighed inwardly and played along, “My sister asked me to thank Dr. Zhuang for taking care of us.”
She continued, “We originally wanted to invite Dr. Zhuang for a meal, but no one is home right now. My sister is worried about Bub and Yaoyao, so we’ll have to wait until next time we’re here to treat Dr. Zhuang.”
“Between friends, helping each other is only natural.” A smile appeared on Zhuang Liulan’s face, though it was clearly forced.
Noticing Zhuang Liulan’s distraction, Shen Baiyi didn’t linger. She quickly took the initiative to say, “I should head back now. Goodbye, Dr. Zhuang.”
She didn’t ask when Zhuang Liulan planned to return, avoiding the possibility of having to go back together with her and her sister.
Unexpectedly, just after leaving the Zhuang residence while waiting for the elevator, the sound of rolling wheels came from behind.
Turning around, she indeed saw that familiar face.
It was Shu Ya.
Shen Baiyi subtly lowered her gaze and shifted aside to make space.
Seeing her, Shu Ya’s expression turned unpleasant. With a cold face, she stopped far away from her.
The elevator dinged open. Shen Baiyi entered first, facing outward, thoughtfully holding the door open.
But the other party clearly had no intention of accepting any goodwill, coldly stating, “I won’t ride with you.”
Clearly someone with a temper.
Shen Baiyi had little patience for anyone other than her sister. Seeing this, she said nothing more and stopped paying attention to the other person.
When Shen Baiyi returned to the apartment, Zheng Yao was in the room packing. Seeing her return, she looked somewhat puzzled, “Why are you back so late?”
“Dr. Zhuang had something to attend to,” Shen Baiyi said with feigned calm, subtly adding, “Seems like she ran into her ex-girlfriend.”
Zheng Yao paused her packing, looking up with a glint of gossip in her eyes, “Ex-girlfriend?”
Seeing that her sister seemed completely unfazed by Dr. Zhuang and her ex-girlfriend, Shen Baiyi felt relieved, her eyes smiling even more brightly, “Yeah, and it turns out she happens to be Zhuang Yang’s neighbor.”
She added leisurely, “I got the impression Dr. Zhuang wants to rekindle things.”
“Is that so?” If Zhuang Liulan had been unable to forget her for so long, she must have cared deeply.
Thinking this, she rather hoped Zhuang Liulan would get her wish and win her beauty back.
“Of course,” Shen Baiyi nodded without hesitation, speaking with full confidence, “Would I lie to you?”
She had seen it with her own eyes, and Zhuang Yang had told her about it, it was definitely true.
But she didn’t elaborate. She wouldn’t talk too much about outsiders in front of her sister, as if she cared too much.
Skillfully changing the subject, the two soon finished packing, got in the car, and began their journey home.
It was already 4:30 PM when they arrived home. Zheng Yao, who had been driving for hours, collapsed on the sofa and fell into a deep sleep as soon as they returned.
Shen Baiyi moved quietly, frowning as she saw the exhaustion on her sister’s face. It suddenly occurred to her that getting a driver’s license should be at the top of her to-do list after starting college.
She was already an adult she ought to get a license so her sister could rest. It wasn’t right for her sister to drive every time they went out; it was too much work.
Unable to resist, she sat on the floor, tenderly brushing away the stray hairs from her sister’s face, then leaned down to kiss her.
She was sleeping so soundly that she didn’t react at all to the kiss.
Looking at her sister like this, Shen Baiyi couldn’t help but feel somewhat dazed, as if she had returned to the time before their relationship had been clearly defined.
Her sister always slept so soundly, completely defenseless against her, unaware of all the wicked thoughts hidden in her heart. Many times when she properly called her “sister,” she was actually thinking about teasing her.
At this thought, she let out a soft sigh.
She seemed too greedy.
Originally, she only hoped her sister would like her and let her stay. Later, when her sister had clearly accepted her and treated her well, she unexpectedly wanted more wishing to be closer to her sister, thinking about being intimate with her every moment.
Then she grew even greedier, not only wanting to be close to her sister but also wanting her sister to take the initiative to be close to her.
Even more, the thought often surfaced: “If only my sister liked me alone.”
With a soft sigh, she grabbed Yaoyao, who was trying to jump onto the sofa and burrow into her sister’s arms.
What to do? She even felt jealous of a cat.
Yaoyao clearly didn’t like her much. Struggling in her arms, the cat kept trying to jump down. Its claws hadn’t been trimmed for a while, and its little legs kicked and scratched, soon leaving several red marks on her arm.
Shen Baiyi, however, curved the corners of her lips.
She hoped Yaoyao’s claws would be even sharper, so her sister would scold the cat and feel sorry for her.
But Yaoyao was too disappointing. Perhaps realizing it had scratched someone and sensing the disparity in strength, it quieted down and listlessly curled up in her arms without moving.
Shen Baiyi frowned, displeased.
But having Yaoyao in her lap was better than having it in her sister’s arms. She sat down on another small sofa, placing Yaoyao on her legs and gently stroking it.
Within minutes, her legs felt heavy again, Bubu had seized the opportunity and jumped up as well.
Its soft paw pads stepped on her legs, completely different from Yaoyao’s: one warm, the other cool.
When she first moved in with her sister, Bubu seemed to like her very much. As she stroked its head, Shen Baiyi grew somewhat distracted.
She remembered Dahuang, still at the animal hospital.
She heard it had improved a lot and was even growing new fur. But if she went to A University, what would happen to Dahuang? Her sister didn’t like dogs, and she didn’t want to keep troubling her sister.
Should she bring Dahuang to the apartment?
But if she kept a dog in the apartment, what if her sister didn’t want to visit anymore?
Shen Baiyi frowned deeply, feeling quite troubled.
If only she could find someone to adopt Dahuang and let someone else take care of it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good-looking, was already old, and wasn’t any noble breed just an elderly local dog.
Shen Baiyi had been troubled by this for several days. But just before school started, her sister unexpectedly brought it up herself.
“It’s not good for Dahuang to stay at the hospital for so long,” Zheng Yao said. “Let’s bring it home.”
Shen Baiyi was astonished: “But sister, don’t you hate dogs?”
“Preferences can change,” Zheng Yao replied, her gaze resting on Shen Baiyi. Just as she had initially resisted Shen Baiyi but gradually grew to like her, her feelings toward dogs could change too.
At first, she had been quite afraid and repulsed by it, but as time passed, she truly grew accustomed to it. Moreover, Shen Baiyi would occasionally refer to it as her little dog. Love me, love my dog she wasn’t sure exactly when it started, but her resistance to dogs wasn’t as strong as before.
Dahuang was no longer as aggressive toward her as he used to be, likely because they had grown familiar. During her recent visits, his tail wagged like a propeller, and she could almost see the word “fawning” written all over the dog.
Perhaps she could try raising a dog too.
“Anyway, I don’t object to you bringing Dahuang back,” Zheng Yao affirmed. “Don’t let him stay at the hospital all the time.”
Otherwise, it would be pitiful.
“Okay.”
Shen Baiyi nodded, but she still needed to consider when to bring Dahuang back and whether to bring him to her sister’s place or to University A.
She had recently looked into it and found that raising a dog seemed much more troublesome than raising a cat. Cats could stay home all day, but dogs needed to be walked.
And…
Watching her sister cuddling with Bub and Yaoyao in such a warm scene, another thought crossed her mind: If she brought Yaoyao and Dahuang to University A, given how much her sister adored Yaoyao, would she frequently visit University A to see the cat and by extension, her?
