My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 64
A sizable crowd had already gathered around the bonfire locals and visitors alike. By the time Zheng Yao and Shen Baiyi arrived, people were just about to join hands and dance around the flames.
“You’re injured, so just watch from the sidelines,” Zheng Yao stopped the eager Shen Baiyi.
If they weren’t holding hands, it would be fine Shen Baiyi could rest when tired. But with everyone linked, once the dancing and running started, her limited mobility could easily lead to a fall if she wasn’t careful.
“Alright.” Shen Baiyi didn’t insist. She took out her phone, a smile quickly spreading across her face. “I’ll take photos for you, sis!”
Though she had been the one eagerly wanting to come out and have fun, she didn’t seem disappointed at being unable to participate.
Zheng Yao’s heart softened. In the end, she couldn’t bear to leave Shen Baiyi watching longingly from the side. She sighed. “Never mind.”
Before Shen Baiyi could say anything, Zheng Yao waved off the people inviting them to join and pulled Shen Baiyi toward another area.
A smaller group had gathered there. Though not as lively as the bonfire crowd, they were sitting together in a circle, engaged in some activity. That group had also called out to her and Shen Baiyi earlier.
“Sis, aren’t you going to dance over there?” Shen Baiyi asked, surprised.
Zheng Yao stayed silent. How could she admit she couldn’t bear to see Shen Baiyi watching alone with those longing eyes?
Shen Baiyi’s tail would probably wag right up to the sky if she knew.
“Come join our game, you two!” The seated circle grew visibly excited upon seeing them approach. “Truth or Dare, it’s more fun with more people!”
Truth or Dare?
Zheng Yao instinctively frowned, recalling the unpleasant memories from last time’s King’s Game.
But seeing that the group consisted of young college students, she gradually relaxed. Their eyes still held the clear, innocent look of typical university kids they probably wouldn’t take things too far.
“Have you played before?” she asked Shen Baiyi beside her.
“No.” A brighter smile appeared on Shen Baiyi’s face. “Perfect timing to try it out.”
The two squeezed in and sat down.
As expected, they were college students on summer vacation. Coincidentally, they were from A University. Upon learning Shen Baiyi was an incoming freshman at A University, they immediately started calling her “junior.”
Then someone turned to Zheng Yao. “Are you a freshman too, miss?”
Zheng Yao burst out laughing. “I graduated years ago. I’m your senior.”
“Wow, so you’re our senior!”
Soon, Zheng Yao was surrounded by voices calling her “senior.” Just as the conversation was getting lively, Shen Baiyi looped her arm through Zheng Yao’s, leaning close to whisper in her ear, “Sis, I’m so thirsty. I want to buy drinks. What would you like?”
Zheng Yao glanced at a nearby stall and stood up. “Wait here. I’ll go buy them.”
Of course, she couldn’t just buy drinks for herself and Shen Baiyi. Since there seemed to be only one type of beverage available, and mindful of Shen Baiyi waiting back at the circle, Zheng Yao bought an entire case and had a few guys carry it over.
“Senior, you’re the best!”
“Thanks, senior!”
…
Honestly, being called “senior” like that felt strangely satisfying. Zheng Yao grinned from ear to ear. But after opening a drink and taking a sip, she suddenly snapped back to reality.
She quickly checked the packaging. Seeing the words “cocktail” printed on it, her scalp tightened instantly.
She glanced sideways at Shen Baiyi.
Unfortunately, she realized too late. Before she could stop Shen Baiyi, Shen Baiyi had already finished an entire bottle and seemed to really enjoy it. When Zheng Yao looked over, Shen Baiyi happened to be taking another bottle from the case.
“What’s wrong, sis?”
Perhaps noticing her gaze, Shen Baiyi looked up at her.
“Don’t drink too much.” Zheng Yao cautioned tactfully, “This is alcohol.”
“Senior.” Before Shen Baiyi could respond, someone chuckled, “This barely counts as alcohol! It’s just a beverage, it’s fine!”
“Really?”
Zheng Yao was half-convinced. She had never tried it before, but seeing it labeled as a cocktail, she was worried Shen Baiyi might get drunk.
“Sis, I like drinking this.” Shen Baiyi said, clinking her bottle with Zheng Yao’s cocktail. “Don’t you like it?”
Zheng Yao clicked her tongue. This girl Shen Baiyi always seemed to enjoy tossing questions back at her.
The university students had started preparing to play games, and Shen Baiyi didn’t appear drunk, so Zheng Yao stopped worrying about whether it was a beverage or alcohol and joined them in playing.
Being all young people, the games weren’t too extreme. Zheng Yao was selected a few times. Still haunted by the previous King’s Game experience, she almost always chose Truth whenever given the option.
The questions weren’t too difficult to answer.
They were all questions she could handle. But unexpectedly, when it was Shen Baiyi’s turn for Truth, someone suddenly asked: “Junior, is your first kiss still intact?”
As soon as this question was asked, the others started clapping and cheering one after another.
Zheng Yao instantly felt her scalp go numb.
If Shen Baiyi said yes, the question would pass. But if she said no, then whenever Shen Baiyi was selected afterward, everyone would definitely press for details about who her first kiss was with.
Others might not know, but how could she not know?
Shen Baiyi’s first kiss had most likely been given to her!
Just thinking about this made Zheng Yao feel like sitting on pins and needles. She couldn’t help but turn to look at Shen Baiyi.
Shen Baiyi remained calm-faced. She smiled slightly, appearing utterly innocent: “It’s already gone.”
Hearing the rising waves of teasing around them, Zheng Yao froze. Why was Shen Baiyi being so honest? Would she frankly admit, if asked later, that she’d given her first kiss to Zheng Yao?
The mere thought made her extremely uneasy.
In her nervousness, she drank an entire bottle of the beverage. She cleared her throat lightly and rubbed her forehead: “Sorry, I’m feeling a bit dizzy.”
Shen Baiyi immediately stood up: “Is sis drunk?”
“Mhm.” Zheng Yao nodded with complete seriousness.
Shen Baiyi quickly supported her and announced to the group: “Sorry everyone, my sister is drunk. We’re heading back first.”
Since they weren’t that familiar yet, no one stopped them, only arranging to watch the sunrise together tomorrow.
The two walked back quietly.
Zheng Yao remembered her “drunk” persona and didn’t dare say much, afraid Shen Baiyi would see through it.
But Shen Baiyi seemed unusually quiet.
Zheng Yao felt vaguely uneasy, sensing that pretending to be drunk at this moment might not have been the right decision.
But having started the act, she couldn’t suddenly claim she wasn’t drunk Shen Baiyi would definitely question why she had pretended.
What a headache.
Caught in a dilemma, she resolved to go straight to sleep as soon as they returned to the yurt.
But plans often fail to keep up with changes.
She never expected the woman who taught horseback riding to come looking for her again, waiting right at the entrance of the yurt, holding a bouquet of wildflowers.
“Miss Zheng.” Her face flushed red, “I’ve thought about it for a long time, and I still feel I should give it another shot. Could we exchange WeChat? Whenever you’re willing to consider me, you can contact me anytime.”
Was she volunteering to be a backup option?
Zheng Yao’s eyelid twitched. She was no player she had no habit of maintaining a roster of admirers.
Remembering her drunken persona, Zheng Yao simply tilted her head and leaned against Shen Baiyi. Shen Baiyi would probably explain that she was drunk, just like before.
Sure enough, Shen Baiyi answered for her:
“Sorry, my girlfriend and I have a very good relationship. There won’t be a time when she considers you.”
Hearing this, Zheng Yao was stunned.
Since when had she become Shen Baiyi’s girlfriend?
What nonsense was Shen Baiyi spouting while she was drunk?!
The worst part was she couldn’t expose Shen Baiyi right now. She could only stiffly follow Shen Baiyi into the yurt.
The smell inside was still unpleasant, reeking of formaldehyde. Only after Shen Baiyi led her to sit on the bed did she look up and grab Shen Baiyi, who was trying to step away.
“Since when am I your girlfriend?”
Zheng Yao asked with a stern face.
“Isn’t my sister drunk?” Shen Baiyi lowered her gaze, her eyes resting on Zheng Yao’s face.
“I’m drunk, not stupid.” Zheng Yao remained expressionless, though she had no idea how she actually behaved when drunk but she definitely didn’t turn into an idiot.
“Then what should I have said, sister?” Shen Baiyi sighed. “Tell her it’s fine, let you two exchange WeChat, and allow her to be your backup option from now on?”
“Or should I have told her you’re drunk and let her come bother you again tomorrow?”
Zheng Yao was left speechless.
Thinking about it that way, Shen Baiyi’s approach did seem the most appropriate. Of course, that was assuming they were actually in a relationship.
Just as she fell silent, Shen Baiyi suddenly touched her face. Zheng Yao flinched and tried to pull back.
Before she could escape, Shen Baiyi pinched her cheeks, lifting her face from the chin upward.
Zheng Yao’s words came out muffled: “What… are you doing?”
“Is my sister drunk?” Shen Baiyi’s tone was faintly teasing.
Shen Baiyi’s deep gaze made Zheng Yao’s scalp tingle. She instinctively lowered her eyes, avoiding Shen Baiyi’s stare. “No…”
She casually made up an excuse: “I just didn’t feel like playing along anymore, so I found an excuse to come back and rest.”
Shen Baiyi released her. “Is that so? I thought my sister was afraid they’d ask me who I gave my first kiss to.”
Hearing this, Zheng Yao nearly failed to maintain her composure. Her back broke out in a cold sweat. She turned her head away, pretending to respond naturally. “Why would I be afraid of that?”
As she spoke, she quickly changed the subject: “It’s so hot. Should you shower first, or should I?”
But Shen Baiyi clearly had no intention of letting her off that easily. Placing both hands on Zheng Yao’s shoulders, she stopped her from getting up and pressed her back down.
Shen Baiyi asked softly, “Aren’t you curious, sister, who I gave my first kiss to?”
“That’s your own business.” Zheng Yao pressed her lips together.
“It’s actually about both of us,” Shen Baiyi corrected her. “Have you forgotten, sister? I gave my first kiss to you.”
Zheng Yao’s mind went completely blank.
How dare Shen Baiyi?!
How could she admit it so openly?
In just a few seconds, her brain nearly short-circuited from overthinking. Even so, she had no idea what to say.
Was the relationship she had worked so hard to maintain finally about to collapse?
The next moment, Shen Baiyi poked her cheek. The very culprit who had thrown her into turmoil spoke with a hint of laughter, “Did you forget, sister? I kissed you here before.”
Zheng Yao: “…”
Her tightly wound heart finally settled back down.
Soon, however, Zheng Yao furrowed her brows again. It seemed Shen Baiyi was toying with her, deliberately trying to scare her.
Realizing this, Zheng Yao took a deep breath and was about to snap when Shen Baiyi’s palm suddenly pressed against her cheek.
“Sister, why is your face so cold and sweaty?” Shen Baiyi wore a concerned expression. “Did you catch my illness?”
“When did you ever?”
Her words cut off abruptly.
Zheng Yao stiffly recalled the scene from last night, their lips and tongues entwined. With such a deep kiss, if it were a viral cold, it would indeed be easy to spread.
Fortunately, her immune system was strong, and so far, she hadn’t felt any discomfort.
“I’m not unwell,” she said, swatting Shen Baiyi’s hand away. “Stay away from me.”
