My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 57
Her reaction was so exaggerated looking utterly guilty without even being able to pretend properly.
Shen Baiyi sighed inwardly but didn’t expose her, simply nodding along: “I understand. Sister didn’t do anything. I misunderstood.”
While speaking, she hadn’t forgotten about making dumplings and happened to wrap the last one. She looked up: “Sister, I’m going to cook the dumplings now.”
This made Zheng Yao breathe a sigh of relief as she hurriedly nodded: “Go ahead.”
She fled to the sofa as if escaping, hugging a pillow the moment she sat down, yet uncontrollably recalling everything that had happened on this very couch before.
“…”
It seemed like every time was on this sofa even in her dreams, the location was always this couch. So much so that now, whenever she saw the sofa, her mind would flood with images of her and Shen Baiyi fooling around on it.
Maybe she should just replace the sofa?
She thought dazedly.
But even if she changed the sofa, would those images in her mind disappear? She didn’t know, but at least she had to try, right?
With that thought, she took out her phone.
Before she could even start browsing for sofas, she saw a message from Zhuang Liulan.
It said she had found several apartments that seemed quite nice and wanted to arrange a time to view them together.
Zheng Yao was momentarily stunned.
Only then did she remember she had originally planned to buy an apartment for Shen Baiyi. Once Shen Baiyi moved out of her place, would there still be a need to change the sofa?
She actually quite liked this sofa.
So the idea of buying a new sofa was temporarily set aside. But going apartment viewing with Dr. Zhuang, she hesitated, unsure whether she should agree.
After much deliberation, she eventually scheduled a time with Dr. Zhuang.
She liked Dr. Zhuang quite a bit but had no romantic feelings toward her. So she ought to be honest and clear things up with Dr. Zhuang whether they could remain friends afterward would be entirely up to Dr. Zhuang.
“Sister, come eat the dumplings.”
Shen Baiyi brought out steaming hot dumplings.
“Okay.”
Zheng Yao quickly responded, putting away her phone and walking over.
Shen Baiyi had already served the dumplings. Noticing that the dumplings in her own bowl were all plump and neatly shaped, she glanced at Shen Baiyi’s bowl, most of the dumplings there had fallen apart. Zheng Yao’s eyelids twitched: “Did all the dumplings I wrapped come apart while cooking?”
“No,” Shen Baiyi denied.
But Zheng Yao wasn’t stupid, the difference between the dumplings they had wrapped was so obvious, she couldn’t possibly fail to notice.
She couldn’t help but sigh softly: “I really am all thumbs when it comes to this. Letting me wrap dumplings, see what happened? They’re all a mess.”
As she spoke, she pushed her bowl toward Shen Baiyi: “You eat the ones you wrapped. I’ll eat the ones I made.”
But Shen Baiyi protectively guarded the bowl of messy dumplings in front of her: “No, I want to eat the dumplings Sister made especially for me.”
Seeing her unusually possessive expression made Zheng Yao momentarily forget her earlier worries. She raised an eyebrow: “And you claim to like me the most? Now you won’t even give me a bowl of dumplings?”
Unfortunately, Shen Baiyi wasn’t provoked by her words. Instead, she stuffed one of the messy dumplings into her mouth, her eyes shimmering with emotion: “I just want to eat the dumplings Sister specially made for me.”
She drew out her words, her gaze seeming to carry some other unspoken meaning.
Zheng Yao froze in place.
Somehow, looking at Shen Baiyi like this, she was instantly reminded of the domineering and intensely aggressive Shen Baiyi from her dream.
The person before her faintly resembled the one in her dream, making her involuntarily feel the urge to retreat.
Subconsciously withdrawing her hand, she lowered her gaze to conceal the panic in her eyes.
The dumplings were delicious. Though Zheng Yao was distracted, she didn’t take it out on her stomach, she finished the entire bowl of dumplings and drank most of the soup as well.
As for the leftovers, Shen Baiyi stored them in the refrigerator.
“Sister, if you ever get hungry, just boil these to eat. No more instant noodles.”
“Are you ordering me around?” Zheng Yao raised an eyebrow.
She couldn’t have imagined that Shen Baiyi, who used to act like a timid quail around her, would dare speak to her like this.
Shen Baiyi asked, “Are you angry, Sister?”
The question caught Zheng Yao off guard.
Was she angry?
No, she didn’t feel angry at all. In fact, it had been a long time since she’d exploded like a powder keg the way she used to.
Even during their last appointment, Dr. Zhuang had remarked that she seemed much calmer, no longer as prickly as before.
Her silence stretched on too long, and Shen Baiyi sighed. “Sister, don’t be angry. I just don’t want your stomach to hurt again.”
“With you around, my stomach is just fine,” Zheng Yao snapped back, coming to her senses.
“Sister, you said it yourself, your stomach is fine because I’m here.” Shen Baiyi’s smile remained unchanged. “But I can’t always be with you.”
Zheng Yao was taken aback once more.
Shen Baiyi continued, “After summer break, I’ll be starting university. Who knows how long it’ll be before we see each other again?”
Zheng Yao’s face darkened instantly. “You’re going to school, not prison.”
As if they’d never see each other again.
But since Shen Baiyi had brought it up, Zheng Yao relayed what Dr. Zhuang had previously suggested.
She hadn’t expected Shen Baiyi to disagree.
“Sister, there’s no need to go house-hunting with Dr. Zhuang. I don’t want to live off-campus,” Shen Baiyi said, her expression troubled.
“It’s fine if you don’t live off-campus. You can stay in the dorm, but we should still buy a house. We need a home.”
“What kind of home is it without you?” Shen Baiyi muttered. “I don’t want to come back to an empty house. If that’s the case, I’d rather just live in the dorm forever.”
Zheng Yao froze again.
Only then did she realize she hadn’t considered things from Shen Baiyi’s perspective. The melancholy and emptiness of returning to an empty home she knew that feeling all too well.
Quickly, she reined in her emotions. “Don’t talk nonsense.”
But she didn’t bring up buying a house again. That same day, she apologized to Dr. Zhuang, and the matter of purchasing a house was dropped.
Time flew by, and before they knew it, the day of the college entrance exam results arrived.
Shen Baiyi didn’t go to work that day and waited in the living room with Zheng Yao for the results to be released at ten o’clock.
“Why do you look so unconcerned?” Zheng Yao asked, suppressing her discomfort as she leaned away from Shen Baiyi, who was leisurely peeling grapes for her.
Noticing her evasive movement, Shen Baiyi’s eyes darkened.
Over the past few days, her sister seemed to be avoiding her, rarely resting in the living room and mostly staying in her room, making it impossible for Shen Baiyi to get close to her.
Of course, she had gone a bit too far that time. Not wanting her sister to become suspicious too quickly, she restrained herself and didn’t do anything further.
But after holding back for so many days, seeing her sister’s evasive demeanor now only stirred an impulse in her to get even closer.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right time, it would scare her sister.
She could only push the peeled grape closer, pressing it firmly against those rosy lips without giving her a chance to refuse. Softly, she said, “The grape is so sweet, sister, try it.”
Zheng Yao: “…”
It was indeed sweet, but the sensation of the other’s fingers brushing against her lips was impossible to ignore.
Zheng Yao, who had finally calmed down over the past few days, was once again thrown into disarray by Shen Baiyi’s small gesture.
Her heart was pounding fiercely, and she couldn’t help but look at Shen Baiyi.
How frustrating she was so unsettled by such a tiny action, while Shen Baiyi seemed completely unfazed.
A strange sense of competitiveness welled up in her. She picked another grape, peeled it clean, and reached out to feed Shen Baiyi: “Here, have a grap…”
Before she could finish, her voice abruptly cut off.
Whether it was because her feeding motion was too forceful or Shen Baiyi ate too eagerly, she not only shoved the grape into Shen Baiyi’s mouth but ended up pushing her own finger in as well.
The warm, moist sensation enveloping her finger left her speechless for a moment, her mind going blank.
It wasn’t until she felt Shen Baiyi’s tongue swirl around her finger that she jolted in surprise and quickly pulled her hand back.
Her finger came out smoothly enough, but it was inevitably coated with a silvery strand of saliva, making the moment intensely intimate.
Zheng Yao froze mid-action.
Before she could react, Shen Baiyi had already casually grabbed a tissue, wrapped it around her finger, and gently wiped it clean, all while looking up at her with a smile: “Sister’s finger is sweet too.”
“Nonsense!” Zheng Yao glared at her, her face flushing bright red whether from anger or embarrassment, it was hard to tell.
Shen Baiyi’s smile remained unchanged. Glancing at the time, she said calmly, “Sister, it’s ten o’clock.”
Hearing this, Zheng Yao immediately forgot about the earlier incident and hurriedly started checking Shen Baiyi’s exam scores.
But after struggling for a while, she still couldn’t get through.
The system was just too slow. Scores had just been released, and everyone was trying to access the site at once, causing the interface to lag terribly.
But Zheng Yao was stubborn. Not being able to check the results felt unsatisfying, so she kept trying relentlessly. Finally, her persistence paid off, and she managed to pull up the scores.
Six hundred and eighty points, an exceptional performance. Ranked 78th, it was a pretty good result, and getting into University A would be no problem at all.
“Shen Baiyi!” She could barely contain her excitement as she grabbed Shen Baiyi’s shoulders and shook her gently. “You scored 680!”
It was truly an overachievement even her English score was quite decent, an unprecedented high mark.
She had expected Shen Baiyi to be overjoyed upon seeing the results, but instead, Shen Baiyi just glanced at them briefly before looking at her pleadingly: “Sister, are you satisfied with my score? Can you reward me?”
Zheng Yao was in high spirits and nodded eagerly: “What do you want?”
“Anything?” Shen Baiyi asked.
“Don’t ask for the stars or the moon,” Zheng Yao added quickly, having regained a bit of composure.
Shen Baiyi laughed at her words: “Don’t worry, sister, I won’t ask you to fetch the stars or the moon for me.”
Then, looking up, she said, “Can you watch a movie with me tonight, sister?”
“Watch a movie?” Zheng Yao hadn’t expected it to be such a simple wish. She shot Shen Baiyi a frustrated look, as if disappointed by unfulfilled potential. “Just this?”
What a wasted opportunity.
“Watching a movie is fine.” Though Shen Baiyi was younger, Zheng Yao was much older and couldn’t possibly take advantage of her. “But you can change the reward. If you haven’t decided yet, you can tell me later.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Baiyi threw herself at her.
Zheng Yao’s breath hitched.
“Thank you, sister.”
Shen Baiyi’s arms were still strong and powerful, holding her tightly. Their bodies pressed close together, allowing them to clearly feel each other’s body heat.
Even though it was the height of summer, Zheng Yao found herself craving this warmth. But it was just a hug out of happiness surely there was nothing wrong with that?
She comforted herself with this thought.
She allowed Shen Baiyi to hold her, then naturally let her go.
“Then I’ll go pick a movie. Shall we watch it at home tonight?”
“Not at the cinema?” Zheng Yao asked, puzzled.
“I don’t want to go out.” Shen Baiyi shook her head, then added with a smile, “Zhu Xiaofu recently bought VIP memberships for many platforms and shared the account passwords with me. Sister, let’s watch movies at home.”
