My Wife Became a Top Star After I Came Back from Quick Transmigration - Chapter 9
Su Qixi’s silence was deafening. Lin Mo looked at Su Tiantian with a puzzled expression and asked Su Qixi, “Is she fooling me?”
Xiong Jingjing cleared her throat and said, “She’s ‘Soda Crackers,’ one of our big fan club leaders.”
Qin Ke held back a laugh and said, “Well, I’ll be heading back then.”
The other classmates also smiled as they said goodbye. No one exposed the truth behind Su Qixi’s silence. They just patted Lin Mo’s back as they left.
Some people came by car, some by taxi, and some of the married ones had their spouses waiting at the door. Everyone had their own life, as if, for one night, their parallel paths had briefly intersected. Now, everyone was going back to their own lives again.
After making sure everything was settled inside, Bai Jin came out, and only Lin Mo, Su Qixi, and the others were left at the entrance.
The moon was high in the sky, and stars twinkled. The streetlights on both sides of the road pointed the way, and the cars speeding by carried the day’s fatigue.
Lin Mo glanced down at her phone. It was already 10:30 p.m. She began to think that if she didn’t call a ride now, she would have to pay the late-night service fee.
What a difficult life! Sigh…
“Hello, I’m Qixi’s manager, Xiong Jingjing.”
Hearing the voice, Lin Mo quickly snapped back to attention. She smiled and shook Xiong Jingjing’s hand. “Hello, I’m Lin Mo.”
Xiong Jingjing smiled. “I’ve heard a lot about you.” Then she glanced at the minivan and asked, with a slight hint of contempt, “Do you need us to give you a ride?”
Lin Mo felt her hostility but wasn’t bothered. She just smiled and replied, “No, thank you. I’ve already called a car. I live very close by.”
Xiong Jingjing nodded and said without any politeness, “Then I’ll take Qixi back now. Her status is special, so it’s not good for her to stay outside for too long.”
Lin Mo nodded. Su Qixi’s face was cold, and she didn’t say anything. She glared at Lin Mo, who was just looking at her, and Lin Mo gave a helpless smile. Su Qixi felt like she had thrown a punch and hit a cotton ball.
Fuming, she got into her minivan. As the car pulled out of the hotel and onto the road, Su Qixi looked back and saw that Lin Mo was still standing there, unmoving.
Not until the car was far away, and she could no longer see her, did a sudden wave of sadness wash over Su Qixi.
It was as if she had abandoned her. That was Lin Mo! The person she would have worried about even if she had just a small scratch. She never thought they would part ways like this.
Su Qixi couldn’t describe how she felt inside. If she had to, it would probably be a feeling of reluctance, of being unable to let go.
But…
You’re so pathetic, Su Qixi! You’re so pathetic!
After getting in the car, Xiong Jingjing’s face was not pleasant either. Seeing Su Qixi in a daze, she became even more annoyed.
She asked her sharply, “Qixi, are you sure there’s nothing going on between you two? If there is, you’d better tell me now.”
Su Qixi pulled her head back and said firmly, “Of course, there’s nothing. We haven’t been in contact for eight years.”
Xiong Jingjing sighed. “It’s that she disappeared for eight years.”
Su Qixi frowned, annoyed. “And so?”
Xiong Jingjing sighed and placed a folder in front of Su Qixi. “I had someone investigate her. They delivered this to me in person tonight. I’ve looked at it, and you’d better look at it, too. For these eight years, she has been in various investment ventures. She’s had bad luck and has lost money in everything she’s invested in. She has a total of 4.8 million yuan in debt now. You need to be clear about your own feelings. When she’s approaching you at a time like this, her motives can’t be good!”
She thought that by saying this, Su Qixi would understand her meaning.
But to her surprise, Su Qixi held the folder in her hand and was silent for a long time. She chose not to open it. Instead, for the first time, she used a very cold voice, as if suppressing something, and asked Xiong Jingjing, “Who gave you permission to investigate her?”
Xiong Jingjing frowned. “I did it because I care about you.”
Su Qixi repeated herself, “Who gave you permission to investigate her?”
Xiong Jingjing was stunned and said incredulously, “What’s wrong with you? This is normal! She disappeared for eight years and suddenly showed up. I have to know what she’s after, right?”
Su Qixi was so angry, so very, very angry!
But remembering Xiong Jingjing’s care for her over the years, she knew that she was indeed doing it for her own good. But Xiong Jingjing didn’t know how much Lin Mo had done for her in those three years.
Su Qixi gave a bitter laugh. “If she really asks me for this money, I will give it to her. I owe her this. But you can’t investigate her.”
Bai Jin, in the passenger seat, couldn’t help but look back at Su Qixi. To an assistant as inexperienced as Bai Jin, a person who suddenly appears with millions in debt immediately raised red flags.
She couldn’t believe that Su Qixi was actually trying to convince herself of something.
It was astonishing!
Xiong Jingjing didn’t understand either, and her voice showed her frustration. “She clearly has a motive! And you’re going to give her money? Even if she helped you in high school, is it worth it?”
Su Qixi looked up at her. In the dim car, her eyes seemed to shimmer. Xiong Jingjing stopped talking, and she heard Su Qixi ask in a voice full of sorrow, “Is it worth a life?”
Xiong Jingjing was startled. “What do you mean?”
Su Qixi touched the folder in her hand, and the expression on her face suddenly softened.
Her voice, full of nostalgia for the past, slowly began to tell the story: “I met her in my first year of high school…”
Because high school was no longer mandatory, Su Qixi couldn’t get her tuition fees from her abusive father. So, she worked during the summer to save up money.
However, her father found out she had registered for high school. After she left the school, he cornered her in a small alley.
It was September, the weather was hot.
The alley was filled with garbage that residents had thrown away, and the summer heat made it reek of a foul odor.
Su Qixi’s hair was yellow from malnutrition, and her skinny, bony body was covered in bruises that would never disappear. Her father showed no mercy. Su Qixi, who had been beaten since childhood, was used to the violence.
But deep down, she wanted to escape, so she knew she had to climb higher.
Studying became her only way out.
“Who said you could use your wages for school?!” The man’s face was twisted in a grimace. He had a delicate face, but his vicious expression had already etched an unspeakable terror into Su Qixi’s heart.
“You want to die, don’t you?! You want to die?! Go get me my money back right now!”
He roared powerlessly, using the stance of a powerful man to intimidate his daughter. He needed money. How dare she not give him the money?
Su Qixi looked at him stubbornly. “The money was given to the teacher. I can’t get it back!”
“What did you say?!”
Su Qixi thought she would just be beaten again, like before, but Su Yong was trying to kill her. He grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall, kicked her until her ribs broke, her face swelled up, and her fingers were unnaturally twisted.
Su Yong was crazy. Su Qixi knew… she was going to die in this alley.
Like a rat in a sewer, no one would ever know how much she longed for the sun.
