My Wife Became a Top Star After I Came Back from Quick Transmigration - Chapter 10
Su Yong picked up Su Qixi with almost no effort. She was so skinny she was far below the weight she should have been for her age. When he threw her to the ground, she tumbled like a broken rag doll. Her dehydrated skin scraped against the pavement, leaving bloody marks.
She was a filthy… broken rag doll.
But Su Yong was still not satisfied. He kicked her into a pile of garbage. The foul-smelling, dirty trash, heated by the summer sun, ironically acted as a cushion and broke her fall.
Without a shred of mercy, Su Yong spat at her and cursed, “You little bitch! Try taking money again and see if I don’t kill you!”
The sky grew dark. The weather forecast had predicted light rain for the afternoon. Su Qixi remembered this; she had wanted to get to the store before it started.
She managed to force her eyes open to a narrow slit. She saw Su Yong glare at her viciously, then strut away.
He didn’t even know that this beating would take his daughter’s life. He never considered her his daughter anyway.
Ever since Su Qixi was old enough to understand, she knew that some parents simply don’t love their children. She watched her mother get into a car and leave, her eyes filled with disgust, as if Su Qixi was nothing but a piece of trash.
Her life was indeed like this pile of garbage—filthy and decaying.
She was a plant about to rot, so she shouldn’t have a life. She should have died long ago…
But if everyone hated her, why did they give birth to her?
The sun completely disappeared. A cool breeze entered the alley from one side and left from the other, carrying the stench of the garbage into the bustling, lively world beyond.
Hated and avoided by everyone.
The first raindrop fell on her face, but Su Qixi felt nothing.
Her face slowly swelled. After the initial intense pain, it went numb, just like her life for the past ten years. She didn’t know what she looked like now, but she knew she was probably just a piece of rotting flesh, like the trash around her.
She couldn’t move at all. Her life was slowly fading with every drop of rain.
She suddenly wondered if she died, would the police find him and execute him?
Would her mother see her and regret not coming back to take her away?
Why weren’t there any memories flashing before her eyes? Oh, maybe because there was nothing in her life worth remembering.
Su Qixi’s thoughts wandered as the rain came down harder, one drop at a time, on her face, her body, her legs…
The sky was grim and the air was heavy. Even the buildings on both sides of the alley seemed ancient and dark.
She could hear the sound of someone splashing through puddles outside the alley. People were running, laughing, and children were calling out, “Daddy, Mommy.”
The world outside might be colorful and vibrant, but this alley was black and white; it was fading away…
Someone was walking, splashing through the water. They walked, and walked, and walked…
Suddenly, a person with a green umbrella appeared before her, and the sound of splashing water stopped.
Had someone come in from that noisy world? Su Qixi’s swollen eyes could barely make out the person’s lower body in sweatpants and a pair of clean white sneakers. The green umbrella blocked her view of the person’s upper body.
The shoes stood out brightly against the mud.
Su Qixi turned her gaze away, looking at the sky.
This was just a passerby who was curious about her, just like every other time…
“Do you need help?” The voice was as gentle as the wind—like a stream in the summer, a warm fire in the winter, a ripened fruit in the fall, and a breeze blowing over a green field in the spring.
It was such a beautiful voice.
But Su Qixi didn’t respond. She couldn’t form a clear word, and she was too weak to even shake her head.
“Sigh.” The person under the umbrella sighed and lifted it, revealing their face.
Su Qixi moved her eyes to look at her, and she froze. She could clearly hear the sound of rain tapping on the umbrella. It was as if this person was the world’s color, slowly painting this gray alley. The muffled sounds of the outside world seemed to suddenly pour into the alley, naturally merging the two worlds.
The light-colored eyes held a sense of helplessness. Her beautiful features, slightly full red lips, and fair skin all showed that she was from a different world than Su Qixi.
“I’ll carry you on my back.” She closed the umbrella, not caring that she was now getting soaked.
She placed the umbrella to the side, walked in front of Su Qixi, and said those words.
“Don’t,” Su Qixi didn’t want to contaminate this clean person.
But the person really did carry her, ignoring her rejection. She paid no mind to the blood, the filth, or the stench on Su Qixi’s body. She carried her out of the small alley, one step at a time, and into the bustling world.
“I have no money.”
“I can tell.”
“I have nowhere to live either. You won’t find my parents to pay you back.”
“Then you can live with me.”
This arrangement lasted for three years.
“Ma’am, we’re here,” the driver called back.
Lin Mo woke with a start and shook her head, clearing the dream from her mind. “I’m sorry, I fell asleep. How much is it?”
Driver: “It will be automatically deducted from your phone in a moment.”
Lin Mo: “Oh, thank you.”
She got out of the car and stretched. She looked up at the moon and the stars, feeling the gentle breeze on her face. The scene from her dream came to her mind.
It was in this very area that she had carried that scrawny girl home.
With her hands in her pockets, Lin Mo hummed a tune and walked toward her rented room.
She was a “tasker,” and this world was a rest stop. To prevent taskers from losing their minds, there were many such stops.
Lin Mo never considered a rest stop her home because once she did, it would be even more devastating when she entered a new task world.
So, whether in a task world or a rest stop, Lin Mo always reminded herself to not get too attached, and to go home!
Her purpose must always be clear!
But Su Qixi was different. The poor, pitiful girl slowly made Lin Mo feel like this was her home.
Even if it meant paying a price, even if it meant giving up her original purpose…
Su Qixi was her reason for returning.
Lin Mo smiled faintly. The breeze blew through her hair, and her good mood made her lenient toward the person who was following her.
She calmly stretched her neck, then walked into a narrow alley and went to sleep.
The person behind her didn’t follow but, after confirming that Lin Mo lived in this urban village, turned and left.
“You can’t investigate her.” Su Qixi put the file back in Xiong Jingjing’s hand. The bright determination in her eyes was something that had never changed over the years.
She said, “I believe she’s not that kind of person. She can’t be.”
This was the unwavering belief of a plant that had rotted in the darkness, but longed for sunlight without dying.
“Because she also knows that if she just asked, I would definitely help her…”
