My Upperclassman Wants me to confess my feelings - Chapter 12
Chapter 12: The Truth
“Of course I’m cert—”
“I’m sorry!” Ye Sisi stepped forward, interrupting Fan Jia.
She rushed in front of Cheng Wu and bowed her head in apology: “It’s… it’s because I’ve always disliked you, so I couldn’t stand Ningning and Xiaohan either! I had a slip of the tongue and intentionally provoked them!”
Wu Yue was completely dazed. This… what was going on?
The others present couldn’t believe it either, looking at one another in confusion. Fan Jia, who had been secretly defending Ye Sisi, frowned deeply.
Cheng Wu glanced behind her, her smile growing more indifferent: “Then could I trouble you to explain the situation again? If it’s not clear enough, I can help you recall it?”
“I… I can.” Ye Sisi kept her head down, clutching her palms. Though full of resentment, she tried her best to recount the events objectively.
The room fell silent. Almost everyone was baffled; only Cheng Wu understood exactly what Ye Sisi was afraid of.
Humans make choices and show bias, but a machine is impartial and cold.
Cheng Wu hooked Ye Sisi’s chin, forcing her to look up and meet her gaze: “This is the second time. You are a smart person; you shouldn’t make the same mistake twice.”
“I’m sorry. I was possessed by a momentary impulse and wanted to win a verbal battle. I really didn’t mean to do anything to them. Wu Yue was too impulsive; I will stop her in time in the future!”
It wasn’t the first time Ye Sisi had felt Cheng Wu’s fingertips, but this time they were cold—so cold she couldn’t help but shiver.
Releasing her hand, Cheng Wu looked at Fan Jia and Sun Wenze: “She wants to apologize. Since you are both here, be the witnesses.”
Sun Wenze bit the bullet and walked over: “Don’t worry, Sister Cheng. This kind of thing won’t happen again.”
Having mentally prepared herself, Ye Sisi turned toward Xiaohan and the others and bowed deeply: “I’m sorry!”
Cheng Wu looked at Wu Yue behind her, who still seemed very indignant. However, Wu Yue suddenly realized Cheng Wu was watching her and hurriedly looked down in fear.
“Hmph!” Ningning didn’t even look at Ye Sisi, turning back to sit down.
When her eyes fell on the phone that was still recording, she suddenly remembered—before they started eating, Xiaohan said it was her first time having Japanese food and she wanted to record it!
Ningning snapped her head back around. Seeing Ye Sisi incessantly apologizing to Wenxin and Xiaohan, she suddenly understood everything!
So the “recall” Sister Wu mentioned was this kind of recall!
…
Everyone sat back down, but no one chatted casually anymore. Originally, no one was sitting at Xiaohan’s table, but since Cheng Wu was there, Sun Wenze naturally accompanied them. Fan Jia actually came over as well, taking the initiative to sit next to Cheng Wu.
A boy who had tried to meditate earlier stood up, grabbed a stool, and sat between Fan Jia and Cheng Wu.
“Sister Cheng!”
Cheng Wu smiled at him: “I didn’t expect such a busy person like you to show up, Luo Xu.”
As the boy was about to speak, he noticed Xiaohan staring at him and couldn’t help asking: “Junior Xiaohan, why are you looking at me?”
Xiaohan spoke the truth: “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere a few years ago.”
“Really?” Luo Xu was surprised; he had no impression of Xiaohan at all.
Cheng Wu thought for a moment and said: “Luo Xu is from Jiang City No. 2 Middle School.”
“Then I must have been mistaken.” Xiaohan was from the High School Attached to Normal University.
Putting away her phone, Xiaohan continued eating. After a while, Sun Wenze suggested going to sing karaoke after the meal, but Xiaohan refused, remembering she hadn’t finished her homework.
Luo Xu joked: “Xiaohan isn’t still holding a grudge, is she?”
Cheng Wu stopped her chopsticks: “Xiaohan is the type who says whatever is on her mind. The coursework in the Math department is quite heavy.”
“She’s in the Math department?” Luo Xu was stunned. There were girls in the Math department?
Ningning held a cup of green tea and said leisurely: “Xiaohan is a top student! Unlike you guys in the Performance department, who spend half the year outside.”
Luo Xu laughed and rubbed his head: “That’s true.”
This table of people had gathered because of Cheng Wu; with her there, the atmosphere appeared very harmonious.
…
At the neighboring table, Wu Yue was the first who couldn’t sit still. She simply couldn’t endure this eerie dinner party where everyone ate in silence. Reaching her limit, she stood up and asked Ye Sisi: “Do you want to go to the restroom together?”
“Okay.” Ye Sisi wasn’t struggling to sit still, but she was worried about Wu Yue, who clearly wasn’t resigned to what happened.
Once they left, the people at the two tables nearby breathed a sigh of relief and began whispering. Soon, several people brought their glasses over to greet Cheng Wu.
“Sister Cheng! You’re here.” “Sister Cheng is a rare guest!”
Cheng Wu picked up her teacup and clinked it lightly with theirs: “I had to come, otherwise there’d be no one to protect Xiaohan and Ningning when they’re bullied. I also know Ye Sisi represents Li Ya—your boss—so it’s hard for you to protect outsiders.”
The thin-skinned ones turned red, while the thick-skinned ones admitted their faults and continued to play nice. The atmosphere was momentarily very pleasant.
Outside the door, Wu Yue and Ye Sisi, who had just returned, opened the door a crack. Seeing the scene inside, they pulled the door shut.
After a few seconds of silence, Ye Sisi said: “Let’s go.”
“Why should we!” Wu Yue was unwilling. “Just now, it was clearly—”
Ye Sisi interrupted her with a cold face: “Yue! I know you’re not convinced, but you were wrong to get physical! Cheng Wu already showed a lot of face by not pursuing it! Stop making a scene!”
She had intended to egg Wu Yue on to scold them, but she never imagined Wu Yue would actually try to strike them. Seeing Wu Yue still defiant, Ye Sisi didn’t want to stay and lose more face, so she turned and walked away.
Following for a few steps, Wu Yue slipped and nearly fell near the restroom entrance. Propping herself against the wall, she couldn’t help but curse.
Ye Sisi turned back to help her. Once she was sure Wu Yue was okay, she looked at the floor and frowned: “There’s oil on the floor that wasn’t mopped clean.”
Just then, her phone vibrated. Ye Sisi opened it to see a message from Li Ya saying she would be over shortly. Wu Yue saw the message too, her eyes swept across the floor, and she suddenly started laughing.
Ye Sisi wanted to find a waiter to report it, but Wu Yue pulled her back: “You go back and wait for the President first. I’ll go find a waiter.”
Ye Sisi wanted to go together, but Wu Yue insisted she could handle it alone.
…
Back in the private room, the conversation dipped slightly when Ye Sisi returned. However, as soon as Cheng Wu spoke, things returned to normal—it was just that no one spoke to Ye Sisi anymore.
Fan Jia couldn’t bear to see it and called Ye Sisi over, asking how much longer until Li Ya arrived. With him speaking up, the other Student Union members had to ask a few questions, and Ye Sisi was no longer excluded.
Wu Yue didn’t return until about ten minutes later. This time no one paid her any attention, but Wu Yue seemed to be in a very good mood and didn’t mind eating by herself.
Coincidentally, Bei Wenxin wanted to go to the restroom, and Ningning wanted to go out to walk off her food, insisting on dragging Xiaohan along. The three went out together to the restroom entrance.
Ningning slipped, but fortunately, Xiaohan and Bei Wenxin grabbed her together, so she didn’t fall.
“Who mopped the floor! Why is it so slippery!”
Xiaohan’s nose twitched, and her gaze landed on the floor: “There’s oil on the ground!”
Ningning quickly took a detour: “Who poured oil here! Do they want to eat in the toilet?”
“I’m going in first.” Bei Wenxin clutched her stomach, bypassed the spot, and entered the restroom.
“Go ahead, go ahead.” Ningning waved her off and pulled Xiaohan to find a waiter to report the matter.
They had just found a waiter and hadn’t even explained the situation when a scream suddenly came from the restroom. Hearing the voice, Xiaohan turned immediately: “It’s Wenxin!”
The two ran to the restroom with the waiter, just in time to see Cheng Wu and Zhou Weiwei helping Bei Wenxin out.
Bei Wenxin was holding her right leg up, with a black jacket tied around her waist covering her back. Her knee-length white dress was completely soaked and dotted with oil stains; water was dripping down from the hem.
Cheng Wu, now without her jacket and wearing only a sleeveless black dress, said sternly to the waiter: “Someone intentionally smeared oil on the floor and handrails of your restroom. I have already called the police!”
“Ah?” The waiter was completely stunned.
Before the waiter could react, Cheng Wu turned and said: “Xiaohan, Ningning, you stay here and wait for the police to check the situation. We’ll take Wenxin to the entrance to wait for the ambulance.”
…
Half an hour later, the police arrived, and only then did Xiaohan step aside. Wu Yue, hiding behind the crowd, turned pale. Was Bei Wenxin’s fall that serious?
After a while, a police officer came out, spoke a few words to the store manager, and looked up to ask: “Who is Cheng Wu?”
Xiaohan immediately raised her hand: “Senior went to the hospital with the ambulance.”
The officer nodded and turned to the manager: “Let’s check the surveillance first.”
The manager hurried to lead the police to the surveillance room. Things went more smoothly than expected; the staff had already found the relevant footage, and the police quickly identified the person. Based on the surveillance, a plate thrown in the trash can was found.
Li Ya arrived, saw a group of people standing at the restroom entrance, and was filled with confusion. The manager brought the investigating officer over and pointed directly at Wu Yue: “It’s her!”
While the others were confused, only Ye Sisi understood. The oil in the restroom was definitely poured by Wu Yue. Under the astonished gazes of the crowd, Wu Yue was taken away for investigation.
…
At 2:30 PM, Cheng Wu and Zhou Weiwei came out of the police station after finishing their statements.
Xiaohan walked up and asked: “Senior, did they find everything out?”
“It’s cleared up. Wu Yue wasn’t resigned and wanted to make you guys slip, which resulted in Wenxin falling and suffering a fracture.” Cheng Wu pinched the bridge of her nose tiredly.
If she hadn’t called the police directly, the truth wouldn’t have been uncovered so quickly. It would have likely ended in endless bickering.
Bei Wenxin’s fall and fracture meant Wu Yue bore primary responsibility, while the Japanese restaurant bore secondary responsibility; this was a civil case. If compensation was paid and the victim’s forgiveness was obtained, Wu Yue could avoid a criminal record.
The people who had come fell into a silence, but only Xiaohan noticed Cheng Wu’s arms were red from the cold: “Senior, are you cold?”
“Of course I’m cold!” Cheng Wu laughed. Just as Xiaohan was about to take off her jacket, Fan Jia had already offered his.
Cheng Wu ignored him completely and simply beckoned Sun Wenze over. Sun Wenze quickly took off his jacket and handed it to her: “It was my oversight.”
That afternoon, Wu Yue’s parents and Bei Wenxin’s father rushed over. Before seeing the surveillance, Wu Yue’s parents flatly denied everything, crying and making a scene. After seeing the footage and the evidence, they knelt and begged Bei Wenxin’s father for forgiveness.
The school teachers and leaders were also there; they could only lean toward helping Wu Yue mediate, as a student having a criminal record would essentially ruin half their life. Eventually, Bei Wenxin’s father agreed to a private settlement.
When discussing the compensation, Wu Yue’s parents started another scene. It wasn’t until Bei’s father turned to head back to the police station that Wu Yue’s parents finally gritted their teeth and agreed.
